Plot

Shuji Hanma made his first appearance when Peh-yan was about to attack Draken. When Mikey arrives, he asks Peh-yan that who ordered him to attack Draken. It is revealed that Shuji Hanma was one of the guys who was behind all of this. Shuji Hanma tells Mikey and others that he’s the temporary leader of Moebius. He gets on Mikey’s nerves and Mikey tries to hit him with his signature kick. Hanma is able to block his kick and that shows his strength. Hanma plans on destroying Toman completely and has brought a bunch of delinquents when Mikey’s side has only 4 people. Hanma threatens the members of his gang to not run away like cowards otherwise he will chase each of them and beat them brutally.
Just before Hanma and his gang are about to attack Mikey’s gang, the rest of Mikey’s friends arrive to help him beat Moebius. There’s a brutal fight between two gangs (1). Mikey takes Hanma one on one and none of them is ready to back down. After a long fight and having Draken successfully attacked, Hanma leaves, warning Mikey of a new gang named Valhalla.
We see Hanma again when there is a huge fight between the members of Toman and the members of Valhalla. Hanma had his eyes on Draken and had preoccupied him (2). Hanma keeps provoking Draken to fight him but he’s unable to reach Hanma as there are a bunch of Valhalla gang members between them. Suddenly, Takemichi distracts everyone with his scream when he’s nearly unconscious but still fighting. Draken was impressed, strengthening his resolve and reaching Hanma after eliminating a bunch of Valhalla gang members (2). Draken is able to throw Hanma at a distance after punching him with his full strength (Chapter 54).
By the end of the fight, Hnanma protests when Mikey says that the fight is over. Hanma is kicked unconscious by Mikey as he is getting on his nerves. The members of the Valhalla gang all run away when they see Hanma lying unconscious after getting kicked by Mikey (3).
In 2017, Shuji Hanma became a part of Toman. We see him in a meeting between the admins of Toman, commenting how this meeting was not merely about their payments but about a traitor who betrayed Toman that led to the investigation of toman-run businesses (4).
We also get to know about Hanma and Kisaki’s history. It was July 2005 when it was a usual day for Shuji Hanma, beating up delinquents from the other gangs. He was strong enough to knock out 10 guys alone. He called himself Ikebukuro’s “Shinigami”. He’s seen to be bored out of his mind after beating up a bunch of delinquents all by himself, commenting if this will continue till he dies. That’s when Osanai tells him that someone wants to meet him. He goes over to check who it is. It’s Tetta Kisaki who wants to meet him.
Kisaki told Shuji that he wants to make Shuji his pawn. Surprisingly enough, Shuji agrees. He likes Tetta Kisaki ideals. Shuji tells Osanai that there’s something different about Tetta Kisaki than other delinquents.
Kisaki tells Hanma that he’s a mere pawn to him and will be replaced once he gets broken. Hanma does not even protest when he gets to know about it. He compliments Kisaki that he loves the way he leads his life. Shuji remarks that when he’s with Kisaki, he can see all the colors of life. Shuji feels like life is a festival whenever he’s with Kisaki.
Kisaki asks Hanma why he keeps following him. Hanma answers that he’ll tell him when he’s dead. Kisaki finds it very ridiculous. Kisaki calls him a clown and that he can never be a main character. However, it won’t stop him from getting what he wants. Shuji tells Kisaki that it’s the first time he has ever been honest with him.
After Kisaki’s death in the future, we see Shuji paying a visit to his grave, asking him how he’s doing. And this is how the story of a clown and a shinigami ends (5).
