A 2012 anime film by Production I.G, it belongs to the supernatural genre and this drama provides a lot of suspense. The little Momo Miyaura and her mother relocate to an old remote island after the death of her father.
All Momo has left of her dad is an unfinished letter with the words ‘Dear Momo’. She tries to settle into her new environment and she discovers some mysterious abandoned shrines. She finds a picture book about Yokai and it becomes her new companion, but then strange things begin to happen and some yokai arrive on her remote island. How will Momo Miyaura fare in this strange world of yokai?

Kyoto Animation went all out for this anime featuring Yokai. The supernatural anime also involves fantasy and slice of life elements, this anime excels in the way both worlds meet and interact… the mysterious spirit world and the human world.
The story follows Mirai, she is a blood bending spirit world warrior and the only surviving member of her clan. The young girl is tasked with killing the ‘youmu’ , a group of creatures that are the manifestation of negative emotions. She comes in contact with the weird Akihito. It is revealed that he is an immortal and also a half breed of youmu and human.
They form a partnership and along with some other spirit world warriors, they must take down the youmu. Their mission gets more difficult when the most powerful youmu crosses the boundary and now it is a battle for life and death.

Also known as Kamisama Hajimemashita, the supernatural fantasy anime caters to the Shoujo demographic. The comedy is amazing and the romance will certainly get you in your feelings, it aired in 2012 and is animated by TMS Entertainment.
The story follows the life of a school student known as Nanami Momozono… She is going through a lot of problems, most important being her absent father who has lost everything after owing numerous debts. The story takes an unexpected turn when she saves a man from thugs, and he gives her his home …The house is a shrine and she gets acquainted with the shrine spirits and a familiar fox spirit.
Now dedicated to her new divine life as a Goddess, along with the familiar spirit she navigates the incoming threat of a Youkai, her romantic feelings, and some contract troubles with the fox spirit.

The short anime film is action packed, laced with highly emotional scenes that will leave you crying your eyes out. Studio Brain’s Base outdid themself on this animation, the forest of the Yokai is realistic and everything matches the romantic laid back feel of the anime film. The supernatural drama is not afraid to take on romance, featuring a pure but impossible love.
The young Hotaru Takegawa loses her way in the woods and when she is about to give up, she finds a tree spirit named Gin. A human’s touch will make the spirit disappear but Gin still helps her find her way out of the forest, and warns her never to return.
Hotaru refuses his warning, and even though they are separated by different planes of existence, she finds a way to visit the spirit every summer. Everything seems to be going well as their relationship blossoms, it feels too good to be true and it will surely be put to the test.

Noragami is a well-known anime, it aired in 2014 and features stunning animation from studio bones. The supernatural anime is a thrilling action and adventure laced with comedy, it follows the regular shonen trope so don’t expect something too different. Yato is a self-proclaimed God, he has an unrealistic dream of being worshipped by several people.
Yato’s partner abandons him, then the young school girl, Hiyori Iki, saves him from an accident by endangering herself… Luckily for her, she survived. The effect of this accident is that her soul is now loose and can easily leave her body at intervals. She demands that Yato restore her to her former state, however, he claims he needs a partner to do that.
Hiyori Iki decides to team up with him, helping him look for a partner and this is the start of their supernatural adventures.

Action, drama, historical, supernatural … just what we ordered. The 1 hour 50 minutes anime film by TMS Entertainment premiered in 2012. It involves some cool samurai fights during the warring states era so get ready for some bloody violence.
This anime follows a cycle of retribution, it is a very playful anime that thrives on taking materials from several other historical pieces. This is the story of Hamaji, a hunter girl who goes to the city of Edo to stay with her brother after the death of their grandfather. In this city, fuse – half dog, half humans are being killed for sport.
She has befriended a fuse and now it all gets more complicated as her brother and every samurai in the city are trying to claim the bounty on the heads of the fuse.

Ghost stories is an early 2000s classic by Studio Pierrot, it gives a good account of the horror, mystery and supernatural genre … this anime is non-stop entertainment. After years of banishment, the ghosts are back, and their quest for revenge is insatiable. Two siblings, Satsuki and Keiichirou, move to their mother’s hometown and now have to attend the school where the ghosts were banished from.
The school is in a haunted old building, and not even their lack of belief will save them when the ghosts start coming after them. This is a thrilling anime of school kids trying to survive a ghost attack.

There has been a breach between the spiritual and the corporeal world, three kids are caught in the middle of it all. Inuyasha is a popular anime, and an excellent one at that. This is an anime that delivers several intense Yokai battles and also perfectly blends numerous genres such as romance, supernatural, fantasy, adventure and comedy. The anime premiered in the year 2000. It follows the teenage girl Kagome who is dragged into the past and now has a jewel inside her.
Kagome teams up with Inuyasha, a dog-demon, human hybrid and what follows are some thrilling adventures that will never be forgotten in the anime world. Other supernatural adventurers join them, and they must now search for the now shattered jewel across the violent Sengoku Period of Japan … This might be too much for a young girl to handle, however, Kagome is no ordinary girl.

Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun is a comedy for the shonen demographic. It is set in a school and like other anime on this list, it belongs to the supernatural genre. One of the more famous Japanese urban legends is the tale of Hanako-san – in this legend, the ghost of a young girl haunts a school’s bathroom.
In Kamome academy, rumours hold that If anyone successfully summons Hanako-san, the person will be granted any of their wishes. Students have tried their best and failed. Then here comes Nene Yashiro, obsessed with changing her romantic fortune, she tries to summon the ghost and discovers that it is a boy rather than a girl.
As fate would have it, Nene becomes Hanako-san’s assistant, helping the ghost in its secret mission.

It aired its 12 episodes in 2020, it is animated by Brain’s Base studio and its use of mystery, demons and other supernatural creatures is unmatched. There is also a romantic twist to this anime that will keep you highly engrossed.
In a world where yokai live along with humanity, hidden in plain sight, Kotoko Iwanagi has agreed to be the Yokai’s God of Wisdom. Kotoko senses something supernatural about her romantic crush – the university student, Kurou Sakuragawa. She then enlists his help in dealing with the Yokai. Together, they head out to solve the mysterious death of an idol.

Mokke is a collaboration by Madhouse and Tezuka Productions. It is a slice of life with elements of mystery and supernatural, it was released in 2007 and consists of 24 episodes. This is a story about two sisters and their supernatural abilities.
Shizuru can see ghosts, her sister, Mizuki, is haunted by these supernatural entities … fed up with the kids, their parents send them to live with their grandparents in the countryside. It is in the countryside that the siblings learn to balance and interact between the supernatural and the corporeal world.

Miko’s ability to see ghosts makes her life a living hell, the horror anime has some hilarious spooky moments and underneath the supernatural theme, you are sure to get some good long laughs. Miko has always enjoyed watching horror shows but everything changed when she became able to see the ghosts hovering around humans.
The young girl decides to ignore these monsters. Even though they disturb people around her, she thinks not acknowledging them will be the best way to make them go away. Miko focuses on her school activities but there is only so much a young girl can take.

It follows the 10 year old Chihiro Ogino, who ventures into an abandoned amusement park and strange things begin to happen.
