Tokyo Revengers Season 1
Tokyo Revengers Season one started airing April 11, 2021, up to September 29, 2021. It had a total of 24 episodes and each episode lasted 23 minutes. It was animated by LIDENFILMS. LIDENFILMS isn’t exactly on par with studios such as MAPPA and Madhouse but they still did a pretty good job when it came to adapting Tokyo Revengers. But it’s not to say it was perfect as there were a few hiccups here and there.
What matters here is that they stuck to the Manga plot without diverting from the original storyline. If they walked away from the original plot, who knows what I would’ve done. But I’m not as much of a psychopath as those people that use light mode on discord. They’re different I’m telling you, those people put serial killers to shame. Plot
If you’ve finished scouring through all the tables of Tokyo Revengers, then you might want a hint of how the story actually goes. Cry not, for I, the one who also wiped Shakespeare’s THICC forehead will guide you headfirst into the story of Tokyo Revengers.
The story begins with Takemichi Hanagaki, a normal Japanese adult who works a dead-end job and is living a pretty boring life. After getting home from work and being bullied by kids along the way, Takemichi just lays in his trash-filled apartment and watches the daily news. Remember kids, no matter how hard life gets, you must not and I mean NEVER watch the news! Those weather reporters are fakes, weather doesn’t exist, it’s all a hoax!
Going back to the story, as Takemichi was watching the news, an urgent report arrives and announces that a dispute involving the Tokyo Manji Gang, one of the most dangerous gangs in Japan, has led to the deaths of two individuals. As their names were announced, Takemichi suddenly had a flashback of a memory hidden deep within himself. It was about a girl. His only love, the only one that truly cared for him.
As his mind wandered into those nostalgic moments of his childhood, he realized it. A small but deep pain ached in his chest. Hinata Tachibana, the one that loved him the most, was one of the victims in the incident along with her brother, Naoto. Even though their relationship ended a long time ago, it still had an impact on Takemichi.
The sun rises on another day. While waiting in the subway, Takemichi thinks back to the past and asks himself what went wrong. As he was staring blankly into space, he was suddenly pushed by an unknown man. Takemichi is now in the tracks and as he is still confused as to what happened, the light of the incoming train swallows his face. He just stares with terror and can’t do anything as the train crashes into him.
As he closed his eyes, having accepted that he’ll die today, the sound of the train and the screams of the bystander suddenly disappeared. There was no pain. Takemichi slowly opened his eyes and everything was familiar but nostalgic at the same time. That’s where everything was revealed. He traveled through time, back to exactly 12 years in the past.
After a series of events involving his middle-school delinquent group, something comes into Takemichi’s mind. He was in the past, where the Tokyo Manji Gang incident never happened. He needed to find “THAT” person. With bruises and an aching body after being beaten to the ground, he ran like his life depended on it through dark alleyways and empty roads. He stopped at a tall apartment building.
Climbing the stairs, all the pain started to slowly disappear, only nervousness enveloped Takemichi’s body and emotions. He stops at one of the doors and rings the doorbell. As it slowly opens, Takemichi’s eyes go wide and his heart skips a beat. It was there, at that moment, his emotions came flooding out. It was there, after a meeting with death and traveling 12 years to the past that Takemichi felt he had everything he needed to live. Tears started pouring out of Takemichi’s eyes as Hinata Tachibana greeted him with a smile.
