Keisuke Baji Wiki
There aren’t many characters in Tokyo Revengers that come close to the popularity of Keisuke Baji and it’s for a good reason.
The charming captain of the first division of Tokyo Manji Gang is one of the best friends a person could ask for in this world, and throughout the show, that’s his redeeming quality but it’s time you learn more about the charismatic Keisuke Baji.

Appearance

Many of the character designs in Tokyo Revengers all follow the same theme. As such, it is a little harder to have a character who immediately stands out. Baji is one of the few characters that do.
Baji just might be the personification of a true 90s rock star. He rocks long and smooth black hair that he rarely ties but when it’s fight time, he makes the best man bun of them all to avoid them coming in the middle of him and his victim.
If you already developed a crush on Baji based on his looks, then we have some news for you, because the moment you see him smiling like a demon due to his pointy teeth while he’s smiling, you will feel a chill in your spine and will want to avoid getting on the list of people he doesn’t like.

Over the course of the series, we have really only seen Baji wear three different outfits. He typically wears the Tokyo Manji Gang outfit but during his time with Valhalla, he rocked a white jacket that was quite a look for him (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 59).
Whenever we saw him during middle school, he was seen wearing a much more normal t-shirt. Just from his outfit alone, we can tell that he was a lot less wild as a kid (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 63).

Personality

In a series known for its interesting and unique characters, Baji still manages to stand out from the crowd. This is because he appears to be a very simple character on the service but every chapter only tells us that this is all an act. We need to dive deep to understand his personality.
Did you ever have a friend that texted you to come out and was there ready for a trip to the other part of the country spontaneously? That’s what Keisuke Baji is to the show. He is one of the most unpredictable and erratic characters in the world of Tokyo Revengers, and it’s highly unlikely that someone would be able to read exactly what’s going on in his mind at any specific point of the storyline.
The first time we see him, he is wild and punches Takemichi for no reason at all before declaring that he is defecting to Valhalla. You would think he is at best an unreliable person who only wants violence in favor of everything else (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 38).
The feature that made people fall in love with him is definitely how confident and cocky he is during the fights despite the odds being against him, and his everlasting smirk is quite the personification of his carefree personality.

Despite all of this, he is a fairly faithful and true-hearted individual if we see how devoted he is to the cause of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He willingly portrayed himself as the antagonist of the whole story just for the sake of his friends and comrades not losing their way. All of this was a ruse and shows what an amazing and talented actor Baji was, that he was able to deceive both his friends and enemies.
Baji is also likely one of the most intelligent people we see in the entire show. He was the only member of Toman who knew that Mikey was being manipulated by someone else. Even Takemichi only knew this because he came directly from the future but Baji was able to figure this out all on his own from just one overheard conversation (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 61).
Strengths and Skills
Many of the characters we get introduced to in Tokyo Revengers are not that much stronger than normal people. Only a few characters are capable of taking on extreme odds and overcoming them. Baji is one of those few characters and likely only ranks behind Mikey and Draken when it comes to fighting ability.

Endurance
Baji is one of the sturdiest characters we meet in the entire show. Despite a stab wound, Baji was more than capable of standing and even fighting.
This is the kind of feat that we only ever see Draken replicate earlier on in the show (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 58).

Strength
Baji also happens to be one of the strongest characters in the show. Like Mikey and Draken, he is one of the few people able to take on several gang members at once with little difficulty. Baji had little problem or hesitation trying to take on fifty gang members at the same time.
He was even winning! If it wasn’t for a stab wound he had sustained, he likely would have won. This is a feat we don’t even see someone like Draken ever replicate (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 58).

Determination
Given what we have said, you might think Baji is just a physical force of nature who can overwhelm anyone he is against simply because he is stronger than them. This is only partly true. Baji also possesses an almost otherworldly amount of determination that only adds to his fighting ability.
Despite being stabbed and sustaining a fatal wound, Baji had the willpower to stand back up and even hold a full conversation. Even more absurdly impressive is that Baji had the willpower to stab himself with little hesitation if it meant he could help Toman in any way he could. That is a level of mental fortitude we might never see again in the entire series (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 60).
Background

Keisuke Baji is one of the most well-written characters in the show but perhaps one destined with tragedies. Baji has been friends with Mikey since childhood and was such a caring friend that he got caught up in a huge mess for the sake of his friend. During his attempt to get Mikey a new bike, they broke into a shop that had Mikey’s dream bike but unfortunately got caught up in a mess and ended up killing the owner of the shop accidentally. Baji along with his other friend was sent to a juvenile institute and joined the Tokyo Manji Gang after he came back. (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 44).
Baji later joined the gang called Valhalla whose sole purpose was to destroy the Tokyo Manji Gang from within but it was revealed that he only did this to find out who were the real enemies behind the scenes. Unfortunately, he ended up dying in the process, but his presence was enough to shake the gangs to their core and his spirit will be remembered by everyone involved in the incident.
The sacrifice Baji made was instrumental in not only keeping Kisaki away from Mikey but also in making sure he could protect as many of his friends could. The way he sacrificed himself was for a purpose as well. He didn’t want his friend Kazutora to live with the guilt of having killed him and he didn’t want the others to think that he had either (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 61).

Relationships

Manjiro “Mikey” Sano
The leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang and Keisuke Baji have been close since their childhood. Their friendship started from them brawling in the gym, and Mikey declared himself the winner of all their battles, but we highly doubt that Baji would go down every single time.
Mikey cares so much for his friend Baji that he is even willing to kick Kisaki out of his group if it means Takemichi can somehow get back Baji. Mikey is the leader that everyone looks up to and Mikey knows that he has to think about the wellbeing of the group rather than what only he wants.

He knows that Kisaki and his men would likely make Touman stronger than just Baji himself would. Still, he cares so much for his friend that he is more than willing to sacrifice that if it means getting him back (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 39).
It won’t be wrong to say that they both were as close as brothers are and even in Baji’s final moments, he cared so deeply about Mikey that he sacrificed his life himself to save Mikey from falling into the darkness.

Chifuyu Matsuno
The Vice-Captain of the first squad is one of the most trusted accomplices of Baji and their relationship goes way back to their childhood. Matsuno was just a twelve-year-old kid when he first met Baji and was quite the opposite of Baji if we are being honest.
Chifuyu and Baji share a special connection, the likes of which we rarely see in shows. At this point in the series, Baji has done just about all he can to come across as the worst villain he possibly can.
He deceives everyone except for Chifuyu. Only he knows what Baji really plans to do. This is despite the fact that Baji never told his friend or hinted at his true intentions at all (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 50).

He helped Baji in his studies one day and Baji took that as a sign of friendship despite Matsuno not thinking very highly of him. When Matsuno was attacked by a bunch of gang members, Baji came to the rescue and wiped the floor with every single one of them. That earned him the true respect of Matsuno and he ended up joining the Tokyo Manji Gang just for his sake later.
It’s one of the best friendships throughout the show. They share their food like a family but Matsuno also allowed Baji to beat the life out of him just for the sake of the latter infiltrating Valhalla without any suspicion.
This is all when none of them had exchanged a single word between them. For all Chifuyu knew, Baji could have actually been serious. Even in this condition, he trusted his friend unconditionally.
Voice Actor
Keisuke Baji is voiced by Masaaki Mizunaka who is famous for his work in the Gundam Build series as one of the main protagonists Kazami Torimachi.
He also worked in Bungo Stray Dogs as Shirase which gained him a lot of fans and he is one of the rising voices in the industry right now considering what a tremendous job he did with Baji in Tokyo Revengers.
Facts
- Baji is called Poindexter by Matsuno which means a boringly studious and socially inept person but that’s quite the opposite of the Baji we know because Matsuno used it as slang.
- The slang meaning of the word Poindexter is defined as a wannabe nerd. One who doesn’t have the skills of becoming a NERD, and that is definitely without any doubt our beloved Keisuke Baji.
- There is so much resemblance between Baji and Izumi Miyamura of Horimiya when you think about it. They both are guys who look like very studious students but are quite the opposite when you get to know them.
- Keisuke Baji shares his birthdate with Dolph Lundgren who is known to be one of the strongest men in the history of Hollywood.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Baji stands out in a series known for having interesting and nuanced characters. Though he met his end early on in the series, his impact will be felt for dozens of episodes or chapters to come.
