You can’t talk about vampires in anime and leave out Noblesse, this Korean series is a massive anime franchise based on the manhwa written and illustrated by Son Jeho and Lee Kwangsu respectively. It was also released as a webtoon.

The plot of Noblesse revolves around a powerful noble known as Cadis Etrama Di Raizel – his strength is astonishing. Being in a deep sleep for many centuries, the noble wakes up devoid of scientific knowledge, and him getting acclimatized to modern society always leads to one funny moment or the other. Be rest assured, Noblesse is not just here to make you laugh because I know you are not here for the comedy rather the action scenes.

Reuniting with the over-serious Frankenstein and making some younger friends, the group begins their bloody battles against a secret organization while trying to unwrap the secrets behind Cadis Etrama Di Raizel’s past.

The webtoon inspired a Korean anime film (Aeni) in 2015, it was swiftly followed by an original net anime in 2016 that ran for 31 minutes. In 2020, a 13 episode anime that was produced by Studio IG and licensed by Crunchyroll aired, it told the story of a Vampire’s transition into a high school student, it will be difficult to understand the anime series if you haven’t seen the ONA.

Also known as ‘Rosario to Vampire’, the series brings a comic side to its romance, and it never fails to show off the wide nature of its harem… So when the vampire action is not forthcoming, there are other things to keep you occupied. The manga is written and illustrated by Akihisa Ikeda.

The series follows the troubled but fun life of the young Tsukune Aono, he finds it hard to get into schools due to his poor grades, he finally finds himself in the boarding school, Youkai Academy. While this school and other students might seem normal at first glance, it is anything other than normal as the school is littered with monsters… One of them being the titular character Rosario, who turns out to be a vampire.

The girlish monsters in this school end up having romantic feelings for him, even to the extent that they are obsessed with his blood. Can he hide his human identity in this school, so as not to be executed? The original manga ran from 2004 to 2007, it inspired a sequel that launched in 2007 and ended in 2014. 

Both seasons of the anime had 13 episodes each and they both aired in 2018, the franchise also has a novel and a game. It is available on New Zealand Netflix.

Anime Storyline:

Blood lad presents to us an iconic character, an Otaku vampire … isn’t that cool? The protagonist in this action series filled with dark humor is named Staz, he is a very powerful vampire who bosses over an area in the demon world. Instead of preying on humans and feasting on their life-giving blood, he prefers to play games, watch anime, and read manga.

Fuyumi Yanagi, a young high school girl wanders into the demon world via a portal, and her exciting meeting with Staz is cut short when he goes off to battle a demon. He returns to a tragic circumstance, seeing that a carnivorous plant has claimed the life of a young girl, turning her into a ghost.

Staz begins his quest to bring the adventurous young girl back to life, however, every step he takes is blocked by an obstacle and it is clear that keeping her ghost from fading away will be a difficult task. The manga written and illustrated by Yuuki Kodama began in 2009, ending in 2016 after 17 volumes.

A sequel manga titled Bloody Brat was launched in 2011 and it was completed two years after. The anime consists of 10 episodes which can all be watched on United Kingdom’s Netflix. It also inspired a light novel.

From the Monogatari series, this series is a household name in the world of anime, Bakemonogatari got a TV anime series in 2009, and also an original net anime (ONA) that ended in 2010. Bakemonogatari consists of 15 episodes, the protagonist here is Koyomi Araragi, after being attacked by a vampire and becoming a vampire himself, the strange Meme Oshino helps to reverse his vampirism. With this reversal, he develops some superhuman abilities and while this does not change his life entirely, his life changes when Hitagi Senjogahara falls into his arms.

Afflicted by an oddity, Hitagi weighs almost nothing, she tries to warn Koyomi away from her but he wouldn’t listen. He finally gets Meme Oshino to solve her problem and they begin their healing adventures together, solving the problems of others under the guidance of Mr. Oshino.

The comic side to this series is how some of the girls he helps tend to end up having romantic feelings for him. The action and horror in the series are great, and the conversations between characters are top tier.

Seraph of the End is highly entertaining anime, the fights are excellently animated, characters are easily likable and the use of magic to strike a balance is commendable. The manga began in 2012, and a sequel was launched in 2017. The 2015 Tv anime aired for 24 episodes.
