Vinland Saga! I bet you’ve heard this name somewhere. Well! In my opinion, it’s an underrated gem. 2019 gave us some of the best anime like Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, and many others. Some of them got famous pretty quickly. Demon Slayer, for instance, quickly became a fan favorite and reached new heights.
Among all these famous anime, Vinland Saga got overshadowed and didn’t get much attention. However, recently, it got some attention and people started watching it. And now they want more of it.

Vinland Saga has one of the best antagonists of all time, Askeladd and Thorfinn’s character progression throughout the anime is just mesmerizing.
Soooo here are some recommendations for peeps who loved Vinland Saga.
Please understand that this list is completely subjective, and this is just my version of the anime just like Vinland Saga. Now, let’s jump right into it!

History and romance! In my opinion, a great combo. Historical anime themselves are great. However, when coupled with romance. It becomes even more amazing.
Spice and wolf follow the story of a merchant, Kraft Lawrence. Lawrence, on his journey, meets a wolf Goddess named Holo. Holo wanted to go back to her home in the north. Lawrence decided to help her and from then on, they traveled together.
Spice and wolf beautifully portray the problems faced by people in their everyday lives. So, it really is a must-watch. The adventures of Lawrence and Holo are really fun to watch.
P.S Who knew Goddesses were sooo cute! Lol.

Demons and spirits! The presence of these makes an anime even more awesome. The same is the case with Moribito. Along with an amazing story, this anime makes amazing use of the concept of water demons, and spirits.
It follows the story of a young merchant, Barsa, who saves the prince of the Empire from execution.
Execution? The Prince? Yess! The water demon that had once caused a huge draught in the empire had returned in the form of prince Chagun.
Following this, Barsa is missioned to protect the Prince from the people of his own country. Ufffff!

You don’t know about the Genkou War? Okay! I’ll tell you a bit about it.
The Genko War was a Civil War fought in Japan between two leaders Kamakura Shogunate and The Emperor Go-Daigo. This war lasted for two years and shook the medieval era of Japanese history.
This anime is a perfect representation of the Genko War. So, if you’re interested in Japanese History, you must try this one out.

Now this anime here is not about aliens or stuff. It’s about two brothers and their relationship.
I have a brother and I really love him. Whenever I make a promise to him, I make sure to keep my promise as it is really important for our relationship and I know how important it is for my brother.
Space Brothers follows the story of two brothers, Mutta and Hibito, who wanted to become astronauts as they saw a UFO when they were kids. However, things usually don’t go as planned, as one of them wandered off his path and became an automotive engineer.
Regardless of this, destiny brought them together. It really is an amazing story and I think you should give it a try.

Brave 10 is an anime based in ancient China. As Vinland Saga is about the tragedies of war and its hardships, most of the anime on this list are bound to be on this particular topic.
War has a different meaning for different people. I mean, for some it is a way to earn money and fortune, for others it is pure misery.
Brave 10 shows the hardships of war from the perspective of an Iga Ninja, Kirigakure. Kirigakure, who was on a journey to find his true meaning in life, saves a shrine maiden. The shrine maiden joins him on his journey. Together they meet Yukimura Sanada, whose sole purpose was to gather 10 faithful warriors to bring peace to this world. Kirigakure and the maiden join him.
Damnn! I made the plot seem too serious… Well! It has to be. Most of the anime on this list are going to be like this.

Ancient Magus Bride is usually the favorite anime of those who have watched it as it is a great combo of unconventional romance and peak fiction.
It follows the story of a young girl, Chise, living in pure misery. One day, at an auction, she was about to be sold. She literally had no hope and just wanted a place to live. However, things turned out pretty well as she was bought by a tall masked man.
As the masked man took her to his home, he revealed himself to be a Magus. A great twist! Isn’t it? This marks the beginning of Chise’s story as the Magus’ bride.

Now this anime is somewhat unique and I love it. The anime, based in the 1980s, involves aliens and modern technology.
Politics in this anime is also amazing and a clear plus point. The MC of this anime is the 2nd Lieutenant Theodor Eberbach, who has to fight off aliens using modern unseen technology.
What else! Eberbach also has to deal with Capitalists and politics along the course of anime.
Ohhh! I forgot to mention one important point. The anime is based in Eastern Germany. Hehehe!
A treat for history fans? I guess, yesssssss.

Isekai and History! Woah! Isn’t it too much? Both of them are my favorite genres, and you’re combining them? Lmao, this is the best!
Drifters follow the story of Toyohisa Shimazu, a brave warrior, who finds himself on the doors of death in the battle of Sekigahara. However, much to his surprise, he was teleported to another world as a deceased Hero, Drifter.
This anime is just amazing. Uniqueness, story, and animation, just everything is on point.

Feeling Down? Just watch a romantic anime Lmao!
Yona of the Dawn is about a young princess, Yona, a spoiled princess. However, when she loses everything, she realizes the importance of it all. As I said previously, I really love anime with these kinds of stories.
Yess, they’re a bit predictable but I still like ‘em.
Getting back, after all this, Yona along with her childhood friend, Son Hak, strives to get her kingdom back. Throughout her journey, Yona realizes the troubles of her people and their difficulties.

Another great historical anime on the list. Sengoku Basara is also about ancient Japan and wars.
It follows the story of several warlords named Shingen Takeda, Yukimura Sanada, Masamune Date, and Nobunaga Oda trying to conquer Japan and establish their government.
The story can get kinda complex at some points but it’s still a great anime to watch and you’ll definitely enjoy it if you’re a fan of History.

Samurai Champloo follows the Story of a Young Girl By the Name of Fuu Kasumi who is Working as a Waitress in a shop but One day, she accidentally dropped the tea on a so-called “Samurai”.
Now the so-called Samurai and his group have started harassing Fuu Kasumi, a young man by the name of Mugen comes into the shop and defeats the so-called samurai, saving Fuu Kasumi from getting further harassed.
This Anime has a great story so that’s why I don’t wanna spoil this anymore 😛

Now, if you look at the poster/cover for this anime, you might think that this is a cute and wholesome anime. Perhaps, appearances are often deceptive.
The premise for this anime is pretty unique, in my opinion, as it follows the story of a young lamb. Yess!! A freaking lamb. Most people won’t even take this anime seriously Lmao!
Regardless! The lamb’s name is Chirin. The story progresses as Chirin’s mother is killed by a wolf named “Won”. Seeing this, Chirin vows to become a wolf himself and kill Won.

Well! This is the premise of Dororo. It follows the story of Hyakkimaru as he was sold to demons by his father Daigo Kagemitsu for the prosperity of his land.
Hyakkimaru, born without legs, arms, eyes, and even ears, strives to get everything back.

Castlevania is also based on a video game and that too of Vampires. Vampiresssss! I mean if an anime has vampires in it, it has to be good lol.
The main plot of the anime revolves around a Vampire seeking revenge for his wife’s death. And guess who’s opposing him? His own son, Alucard. I guess he was so busy seeking revenge that he forgot to teach his son manners!

Another great revenge story!
You might be wondering, aren’t there too many revenge stories on this list? Well! It makes sense, as Vinland Saga is mostly about Thorfinn trying to take revenge for his father’s death.
Let’s just continue with our list. Mobile Suit Gundam follows the story of Casval Rem Deikun, Son of a legendary Civil fighter. However, things went seriously wrong when his father was assassinated.
This twisted his fate and Casval along with his sister grew up to be a soldier and came to be known as the Red Comet.

Immortality, conflicts, and revenge! These things can destroy a man. I mean, most people want immortality, however, they don’t see its consequences. You have to see your loved ones die right before your eyes and you can’t do anything. This alone is enough reason for me to not wish for immortality.
Let’s get back on the topic. Blades of immortality is an anime about a samurai who was cursed to immortality due to the atrocities he committed in the past. And the only way to lift the curse was to kill 1000 more people.
It’s cruel! Isn’t it?
The story has more depth to it but I won’t spoil it for y’all. Revenge and conflicts are also major factors in this anime. However, as I said, I won’t spoil it further.

Tho the anime didn’t do it justice. Berserk still is great. It follows the story of Guts, a young swordsman, who literally lost everything, got abused by his father, and lived the worst possible life.
Following this, he runs away from his past life and joins Griffith only to suffer even more. Suffering!suffering!suffering! the only thing in this anime.

Yet another story about promises, bonds, and wars. The anime is set in China where a raging dragon destroys cities and kingdoms fall and rise.
First Demons, now Dragons Lol. Why are they always portrayed as creatures of destruction?
It follows the story of two friends, Lin Xin and Piao. Piao got recruited into the army and I think you can guess what happens next. He dies, leading Lin Xin into the story, who vows to become the General of China and change his fate. It really is a great anime and in my opinion, pretty underrated.

Another story about revenge. Well! Most of the anime on this list are going to be about revenge.
91 days follows the story of Angelo Lagusa, whose parents were killed right before his eyes by the Vanetti Mafia Household.
Now, this is just terrible, a child seeing everything he holds dear to him just dying right in front of him. Following this, he leaves his city and name, adopting the name Avilio Bruno.
However, his life takes a turn as he receives a letter, telling him to return to his hometown. This changes everything, as Bruno now wanted revenge and would do anything for it.
91 days surely is a great watch. The action, tactics, everything is just awesome.

Just in case, I should write something here. Attack on Titans follows the story of Eren Yeager, whose mother was eaten by a Titan.
What are Titans? Titans are giant humanoid creatures who eat humans. (For those who don’t know, Lmao)
Because of them, humans have to live inside huge walls. The story carries on as Eren swears to kill every titan on Earth and avenge his mother.
PS I shouldn’t tell them about LEVI! Hehehehe.

Golden Kamuy follows the story of Sugimoto, who survived a war and was nicknamed “Sugimoto the immortal”. One day, he was saved by an Ainu Girl, Asirpa.
Together, both Sugimoto and Asirpa form an alliance and go on a journey to find a treasure for their own personal desires.
The bond development between Asirpa and Sugimoto makes this anime amazing. However, the most important thing that makes this anime a real gem is the accurate representation of history and the Ainu culture.
The comic relief in this anime is also amazing and just remembering it makes me laugh Lmao!

Following this, the prince was forced to leave the castle and live as a fugitive. Arslan then vows to get his kingdom back. On his journey, he meets trustworthy comrades and friends.
Doesn’t the plot seem kinda bland and boring? Well! The most amazing aspect of this anime is the character development, like how a prince survives when his royalty and status are taken away from him?
I really like these kinda plots where a rich guy suddenly loses everything and has to survive in the cruel world. It makes you feel bad for the MC tho. Still, pretty enjoyable.

Higurashi: When They Cry Keiichi Maebara tore his life and moved to a remote village, where he soon became friends. He was surprised to seek out that there have been numerous disappearances and deaths during his stay in this quiet town, and in shock, all his questions on an equivalent subject always faced silence. It's up to him to know what happened in the city. As the second season of Higurashi When They Cry, Kai takes up the ending story, chases his group of friends, and recalls the summer of 1983. Rika Furude did whatever it took to prevent her friend from dying. They work together to find out who is behind it and how to stop this torture. Not necessarily time travels, but Season 2 of Higurashi focuses on the prevention of death and tragedy. The two anime protagonists have to repeat them over some time and try to change the score each time they restart. It certainly feels more supernatural than adventure. But it also wonders what will happen next and tries to guess exactly what happened. There is a really cute girl even if it's a little dark! 15. Madoka Magica Madoka Magica is a completely new genre of magical girl anime. It started like any other magical girl anime but soon deteriorated. People are starting to die on the left, right, and center, but this is not the worst thing that happens in this anime. 14-year-old Madoka has a strange dream about a strange girl, a moray eel, and a giant creature. The next day, when the dream woman realizes that she is a transfer student, Homura, and Madoka and her friend Sayaka meet a creature, some strangers. It's like a strange cat called Kyubey. Kyubey makes a magical girl contract with Madoka and fights against the witch, and her wish is fulfilled. 14. The Rising Of The Shield Hero Naofumi Iwatani, a college student,got summoned in a land called Melromarc and has become one of the four protagonists whose mission is to protect the land from various obstacles. As a shield champion, his reputation was further affected when people mocked his weaknesses and were accused of not exploiting a woman called Marti. The purpose of the nerd is to clarify his name and gain the respect of those around him. 13. ERASED Satoru Fujinuma has a mystical power to go back in time. But it can always come back. One day he traveled 18 years ago and got stuck there. Satoru is an enthusiastic and talented cartoonist. When a tragedy occurs, he will return in time. He saved some lives by making use of his abilities. One day someone died near him and he was the prime suspect. This time, he was fired for 18 years before the tragedy that involved the murder of one of his classmates began. He now needs to prevent these tragic events, save lives and change the future. When I saw life in a different world start from scratch, I had the idea that Erased appeared immediately. Re: Zero starting from scratch, Erased will immerse you in episodes with constant twists, and turns, just like Satoru can go back in time. And start over to avoid the sad result. However, the two of them cannot have much control when this happens. There is no doubt that Erased has quite a few comedies and no lovable, mysterious creatures. But Satoru's little comments and reactions elicited laughter and smiles. 12. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World! Kazuma Satou will be reborn in a fictional world and given the option to choose a weapon. Fortunately, he finally chose the less useful water. If he wasn't bad enough, Kazuma would know right away that he didn't know about this new world. Staying there meant that it was much more complicated than he had imagined. 11. Steins; Gate Steins; Gate, an anime about the set of mad scientist Rintarou Okabe and his exiled friends were a great success apart from the colorful and fun character. But with a dark change along the way, it is still considered one of the best series in anime. Again, the obvious link is time travel. And like the animation above, Steins includes; Gate, people who must somehow change their past to change their original behavior, save lives, or prevent disaster. It is like a science fiction movie. But there are many surprises and dire consequences that can lead to poor decisions, and many fans admit that if you enjoy Re: Zero, you might love Steins; Gate. 10. Punchline Yuuta Iridatsu is a boy who gets emotional and passes out every time he sees a girl's underwear. One day, spirits from Utah roam like ghosts in an apartment building, and three servants, Mikatan, Rabura, and Ito live in it. But in this way, the asteroid destroys the Earth when excited as it is. Yuuta strives to avoid potential disasters and understands his abilities and his relationship with the aforementioned girl. In Punchline, our heroes need to prevent death and other disasters by taking their footsteps without receiving too much from them. She has cute comical girls and cute floating cats as if she is in a different world, starting from the beginning. There is another opportunity in lingerie! Punchline has amazing elements too, and with a few unexpected twists, you can take care of Re: ZERO, the beginning of life in another world, using Punchline's art and character design. 9. Orange The story allows high school student Naho Takamiya to receive a message from herself in the future and address her greatest regret in her life. Naho's future autonomous commandos pass on to student Kakeru Naruse to observe that fans of romantic animation may like this anime. It is not another high school anime that portrays girls as mere sex objects. There is a sinister atmosphere. Those who like gloomy animation may find this interesting; there are 13 episodes in total. 8. GATE Youji Itami of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) saves people from the sudden attack of mysterious creatures from the other side of the door.
