COMPLETE Psycho Pass Watch Order (OFFICIAL)

The Psycho-Pass series is set during a dystopian future where the Japanese government can measure each person’s condition, personality, and therefore the probability that someone will commit crimes with technology called the ‘Psycho-Pass”. The story follows Inspector Akane Tsunemori, who joins the Criminal Investigation Department of the General Public Safety Bureau after graduating from its academy.

The anime explores what happens when a crime is identified before it happens, and the way society will adapt to the current new reality. After you consider the real-world implications of predictive policing, it’s pretty scary stuff. The Psycho-Pass franchise is an anime series with an outsized number of intertwined stories. This blog attempts to give an in-depth explanation of the simplest viewing order for these stories and the reasons behind the order.

About Psycho Pass

Psycho pass

Psycho-Pass could be a series that explores what happens when the criminal justice system judges people not just on their actions, but on the potential that they’ll commit crimes in the future.

It takes place during a futuristic Japan where both thinking and crime are policed by the Sybil System, an omnipresent AI that has instant profiling of any individual’s status. There is a world where there’s no crime or criminals. During this world, the existence of psykers is discovered, and they are then sent to an area that has been quarantined by society.

This place is known as “AB Block” and people who have committed crimes with their psychic powers are sentenced here. They have to do their sentences in this facility until it’s determined if they will return to society or not.

The story takes place inside this facility and you may see both the bad and also the good side of it. The primary season gives us a short insight into what it means for Akane to become a replacement member of Unit one among the General Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division and her involvement within the crimes her group investigates.

Whereas the second season gives us a deeper dive on Akane Tsunemori, her past, and what she means to try to do, now that she knows the varied nature of the Sybil System. And eventually, the third season now divides the role into 2 rookie Inspectors, Arata Shindo and Kei Mikhail Ignatov, who now privately led their investigations for the reality behind the suspicious deaths of certain individuals. This all takes place under the ever-watchful eye of the Sybil System.

Psycho Pass Movies Watch Order

1. Psycho-Pass Movie (2015)

Psycho-Pass Movie (2015)

The 2015 movie talks about three main things. One, the Southeast Asia Union (SEAUn), second, Inspector Akane Tsunemori, and third, the Sybil System. As an experiment in spreading the system throughout the planet, during warfare in July 2116, the Japanese government decided to move the Sybil System to Shambala Float.

While peace and prosperity lasted for a long time, it all went into shambles when SEAUn sends terrorists to Japan, who are now able to slip through the Sibyl System and attack Japan from within. Now, Akane Tsunemori and her team take action to go and stop them before the person answerable for this incident escapes.

2. Psycho-Pass Sinners of the System- Case No. 1: Tsumi to Bachi (2019)

Psycho-Pass Sinners of the System- Case No. 1

The second movie of Psycho-Pass takes place a year after the primary movie technically, as this can be set within the Winter of 2117. The plot of the movie is set in a ‘Sanctuary’ where Inspector Shimosuki, together with Enforcers Ginoza and Kunizuka, is distributed by Akane Tsunemori to find out more about matters that revolve behind Izumi Yasaka. She is a psychological counselor at the isolation and holding facility for latent criminals in the Aomori prefecture.

Through their investigation, what these agents find may be a “false paradise” that’s just said to run in the very name of Sanctuary and its but anything removed from it.

They learn the true nature of the power, its occupants, and also the therapists who work there. This makes the entire anime even more intense and provides it with a plot that’s both different and eventful from what we see within the animated episodes.

3. Psycho-Pass Sinners of the System Case 2: First Guardian (2019)

Psycho Pass Sinners of the system case no. 2

Case 2: First Guardian takes the full anime and its movie to a special level. Though the timeline takes a toll on this particular movie because it is 5 years behind what we see just in Case 1- Tsumi to Bachi (in the year 2112). It still lives up to the name and offers us a reasonably detailed explanation of the events that led to Case 1 in the first place.

With a change of protagonist from Akane Tsunemori to Tomomi Masaoka, an Enforcer within the Criminal Investigation Department’s Division 01 of the General Public Safety Bureau, deuteragonist Inspector Risa Aoyanagi, and military pilot Sugo we see how the three wolves take up a case on an unmanned armed drone attack to the Ministry of Defense building.

The story takes place just two months after the mission to Shambala Float. Instead of all this, we now see more of Masaoka before he meets with Akane Tsunemori, where he’s seen working with someone better than him instead of someone who is more sort of a mentor and a supervisor. This film gives us Sugo and Masaoka’s backstory.

4. Psycho-Pass Sinners of the System Case 3: In The Realm Beyond (2019)

Psycho-Pass Sinners of the system- case no. 3

The Realm Beyond (Onshuu no Kanata ni) takes place a year and 4 months after Psycho-Pass: The Movie. The protagonists here change all over again from Sugo and Masaoka to Shinya Kogami and Tenzing Wangchuck. As Kogami continues to maneuver southwest into the Himalayas and the Tibetian platform, he rescues a bus carrying loads of refugees being attacked by armed guerrillas and a group of terrorists.

Among the refugees, he finds a lady called Tenzing, who begs him to show her how to fight. While the film speaks plenty about Kogami and him forgoing on being a peacemaker and a just person, while it showcases all that it also presents a tale about the worth of human effort and the way Wangchuck–an orphaned A half-Japanese, half-Tibetan girl now wants revenge but realizes that she has no chance of taking on all this by herself. While it tells us all this, it still maintains a way of sensibility by giving us a plot that’s not only entertaining but refreshing.

5. Psycho-Pass 3: The First Inspector (2020)

Psycho-Pass 3: The First Inspector (2020)

First Inspector is the latest movie of the Psycho-Pass series that takes place within the year 2120 and this provides us a full new upgrade and composition of characters within the anime.

It features Inspectors Arata Shindo and Kei Mikhail Ignatov of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Unit One, who are still overseen by the Sybil System. The role of the antagonist here is taken by Koichi Azusawa, the main schemer and evil antagonist behind a string of crimes who now target the CID itself and directs his attack to the NONA Tower itself.

Unlike the other films and episodes that we’ve seen up to now, we can say that this one can be probably the most thrilling because the antagonist here directly targets the Criminal Investigation Department and not anywhere else.

It shakes up the core of power and control, giving rise to a level of tension that has never been seen before. While many secrets are revealed, I am ready to only hope that Arata Shindo and Kei Mikhail Ignatov are going to be able to get to places in time to prevent the attack from further spreading into the system and destroying it entirely.

6. PSYCHO-PASS: EXTENDED EDITION

PSYCHO PASS EXTENDED EDITION

While there aren’t any specials for Psycho-Pass, it still has an Extended Edition that aired from July 10, 2014. The series range from 22 Episodes to 11 Episodes with each episode being 45 minutes long and having new footage added as a special for us.

These new footages give relation to the events that are included within the novel. At the start and the middle of the episodes, we see new added scenes that link the next episode.

The animation and post-production of the new extended cut are very detailed and refined because of the fixes, making the 11 Episodes feel more like Specials and an upgraded version of the series itself.

Psycho-Pass Spinoffs And Live Action Films

1. PSYCHO-PASS (spin-off) The Stage Chapter 1-Crime Coefficient

PSYCHO-PASS (spin-off) The Stage Chapter 1

It is only natural that a story involving vampires will have a crazy main character. When a village is affected by an epidemic and a good character like Megumi dies, it drives Natsuno Yuuki to insanity as he becomes haunted by his death.

He pairs up with Toshio to save their village Sotoba from turning into a village full of vampires. But in a world where good can’t be easily distinguished from evil, will they be able to do it or will they succumb to the darkness?

2. PSYCHO-PASS (spin-off) The Stage Virtue and Vice

PSYCHO-PASS (spin-off) The Stage Virtue and Vice

This spin-off play was held in Tokyo on April 18-30, 2019 in the Nippon Seinenkan Hall, and on May 4-6, 2019 at the Morinomiya Piloti Hall that is in Osaka. This play introduced us to a new protagonist from Division 03 and an antagonist from the other side of the CID of the General Public Safety Department.

Among all the characters, we see the main story and perspective of an Inspector from Division 03 of the CID named Haruto Kusen, who dives deep into the murders within the back alley of the midtown area. His area of experience is given a significant focus and this is often again appreciated well among the masses. And as the stage play became another hit, it was again released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 16, 2019.

Conclusion

akane

Psycho-Pass may be a complicated show with lots of twists and turns. To get the most out of it, viewers will concentrate on each detail, but that is what makes this anime so rewarding. Psycho-Pass is an anime that provides a compelling tackle of how technology can affect society

The main character, Akane Tsunemori, develops throughout the series and learns to respect people’s freedom while fighting for what she believes in. This anime does take lots of attention to watch but if you want to observe a show that has it all, then Psycho-Pass would easily make it to at least one of the top on the list.
