30+ Strongest One Piece Characters (RANKED)

Updated July 25, 2022 by

The Wano arc is at its end, and we’ve seen a lot of action go about Onigashima, which gave spotlight to a lot of characters especially the Yonko, Supernovas, and the Straw Hats. The bloodshed around Onigashima is an indication of how it’s riddled by powerhouses on every corner. But for this list, we won’t only settle for characters present in the Wano arc, but as well as living characters around the world of One Piece.

Table of Contents

The list may not include some of our beloved characters—characters who do not have enough feats or narrative to show how we will be able to rank them based on specific factors. But fret not, these characters will be stepping out of the shadows real soon!

Without further ado, let’s look into the top 35 strongest One Piece characters as we have seen until the latest manga chapter. So, fair warning to those who aren’t caught up to the manga yet, SPOILERS AHEAD!!

POWERFUL ONE PIECE CHARACTERS

It felt illegal separating these two because they are equal in literally everything (except for cuteness because… Neko). Not only are they retainers of Oden and are also Samurai skilled in combat, but they are also minks who can use electro and access Sulong form.

Both have also shown great endurance and stamina as they fend off the Beast Pirates at Zou led by Jack the Drought. Although they lost, they were too persevering to put down that they had to resort to chemical warfare. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 81, Chapter 810, One Piece Anime: Episode 759-760)

They may not be as powerful in their base form, as seen how the tides have turned against them when they momentarily lost their Sulong against Perospero and Jack, respectively. But their Sulong forms are powerful enough to drive the top Yonko officials into the mud. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1026)

Next, we have our big wooly mammoth, Manfred. Nah, just kidding. For number 30 in this list, we have the still, big wooly of a mammoth and fishman, Jack the Drought. Though allied with a certain Saber-Toothed cat, he does not possess the friendliness to make friends with any inferior Ground Sloth.

Jack the Drought is the main antagonist of the Zou arc and has been a recurring juggernaut ever since. He fought the Mink tribe for 5 days and nights, this by itself is a clear exhibition of his immense stamina and endurance (One Piece Manga: Vol. 81, Chapter 810. One Piece Anime: Episode 759-760)

During the battle in Onigashima, Jack once again faced the army of Sulong minks and demolished them with ease until Inu and Neko took him down. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 98, Chapter 991)

An ex-Warlord of the Sea and usurper of the Dressrosa Kingdom, the legend himself, Donquixote Doflamingo. Known for his versatile use of the Ito-ito no Mi, possession of all three types of Haki, and malicious intellect.

Doffy is extremely talented in combat, utilizing all that is possible with his Devil Fruit and even bested Trafalgar Law, who uses the ultimate Paramecia, Ope-Ope no Mi. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 73, Chapter 729. One Piece Anime: Episode 611)

But as strong as he is, he is inferior to Yonko Commanders like Cracker who did better against Boundman Luffy

Charlotte Cracker ate the Bisu-Bisu no Mi, granting him the ability to summon Biscuit Warriors and even utilize them as armor with a clap of his hands. Cracker is also capable of Bosushoku Haki, as seen how he’s able to nearly cut-off Luffy’s Haki-imbued arm with his sword. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 83, Chapter 838. One Piece Anime: Episode 799-800)

Had it not been for Nami’s assistance, Luffy would have a hard time chowing down those biscuit warriors of Cracker. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 84, Chapter 842. Anime: Episode 805) Unfortunately, the best of him is countered by our MC who is notorious for munching down his enemies.

The funky Brachio-cyborg in Onigashima is no other than Queen the Plague! Mr. Funk over here might be one of the wackiest antagonists in the Wano arc, but don’t let all his gag catch you off guard. He is one of Kaido’s top performers for two reasons: Power, and scientific intellect.

On top of his already powerful devil fruit that turns him into a formidable Brachiosaurus at will, Queen is also a cyborg that can alter his body in the most unexpected ways for combat. Such as when he caught Sanji with his Brachioserpent which he claims to be so powerful that not even masters of Armament Haki can survive! (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1028)

Queen may not be as talented of a fighter compared to Jack and King, but he boasts raw power that can damage the Yonko Big Mom (One Piece Manga: Vol. 94, Chapter 947. One Piece Anime: Episodes 946–947). What made Queen a real threat is his endless arsenal which includes all the Germa abilities and quirky body modifications.

Another ex-warlord in our list, Boa Hancock is the empress of Amazon Lily, a nation whose inhabitants are known for their proficient use of Haki. Being the ruler of such civilization speaks volumes of Hancock’s powers. She can use all three types of Haki and likely advance at least one of them.

Boa possesses the powers of Mero Mero no Mi. It’s basically an ability where the people attracted to her whom she touches turns into stone, apart from a certain rubber boy of course. Her devil fruit powers were showcased the most in the Marineford war, solidifying both pirates and marines alike. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 57, Chapter 555. One Piece Anime: Episode 464)

Diamond Jozu, one of the fleet commanders of the world’s strongest man, Whitebeard. During the Paramount war, Jozu had quite the performance, and one of his best was stopping the attack of the world’s strongest swordsman, Mihawk. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 57, Chapter 553. One Piece Anime: Episode 462.)

On top of that, Jozu also has feats of strength such as chucking over a giant block of ice supposed to flatten an entire troop of giants. (Manga: Vol. 57, Chapter 554. Anime: Episode 463.)

What kept him at the rear end of this list is simply his absence post-timeskip, and most of the characters, ironically, outshining the Diamond himself. With only one arm left we can’t guarantee whether Jozu got stronger post TS because he is not a red-haired individual. But one thing’s for sure, Marineford Jozu was a one brilliant beast.

Being a master of Gyojin Karate, Jinbei has supremacy over the powers of water, a force to be reckoned with especially against Devil Fruit users.

Son of the Sea, Jinbei, has proven his top-notch endurance and durability after soaking up attacks from the now fleet Admiral Akainu, and living to tell the tale (One Piece Manga: Vol. 59, Chapter 578. One Piece Anime: Episode 487). He also has impressive stamina after fighting with Fire-fist Ace for five days straight. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 57, Chapter 552. One Piece Anime: Episode 461)

At the raid in Onigashima, Jinbe shutdown Who’s Who, an ancient Zoan-type proficient in Rokushiki without much challenge (Manga: Vol. 101, Chapter 1018).

Killer is one of the five Supernovas that faced off against the two Emperors at the rooftop battle of Onigashima. It is shown that each of the Supernova has the capability to damage Kaido to some degree, Killer goes by a unique approach with his Punishers and uses sound waves to damage the Emperor’s internal organs. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 99, Chapter 1002. One Piece Anime: Episode 1017.)

As Orochi’s manhunter Kamazou, Killer fought with the absence of his signature weapon against Zoro. And even that, he is still strong enough to unleash waves of energy using a scythe (One Piece Manga: Vol. 93, Chapter 938. One Piece Anime: Episode 934), proving that Killer does not solely rely on his trademark Punishers.

He also endured Hawkin’s beating despite already being injured from the rooftop, all for the sake of his Captain which shows his resolve. At the end, Killer swiftly overpowers the Supernova captain.

As a wielder of an ancient Zoan devil fruit, King can turn himself into a Pteranodon at will and prefers to fight whilst in the air and shooting attacks from afar with his Lunarian flame. He also boasts immense melee prowess as he can put swordsmen like Zoro on the edge with his unorthodox and rather odd methods of fighting. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 101 Chapter 1023) and (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1032)

Though he is still potent in his defensive state his powers do not come close to when the flames on his back are out, granting him ridiculous movement speed and immense firepower but at the same time leaving him vulnerable to any attacks. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1035)

Considering all that King has at his disposal, there’s no other member of the Beast Pirates that would ever come close to him in power. There is no greater honor than to be the most valued crewmate of the World’s Strongest Creature.

Sanji is one the most versatile characters in the world of One Piece in terms of mobility, as he can move at high speeds literally anywhere. He also has superb observation Haki that countered Katakuri’s future sight (One Piece Manga: Vol. 86, Chapter 862 One Piece Anime: Episode 832).

With his newly enhanced body, Sanji can move so fast that even Queen thought he was going invisible (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1034). On top of that, durability is no longer an issue for Sanji the moment Queen’s sword shattered upon hitting his neck. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1028)

Overall, Sanji has grown exponentially throughout WCI and Wano both as a character, and as a fighter. All these build-ups led to him finally accepting his Germa enhancements, and with the combined power of his fiery will manifested through Ifrit Jambe, he dominated even a monster like Queen, kicking him off the island of Onigashima for good! (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1035)

One of the Supernova captains that spearheaded the downfall of the Emperors in Onigashima, Eustass Kid has proven time and time again that he is a worthy contender to the throne of being the Pirate King! Though we know it’s actually between Blackbeard and Luffy, I suggest y’all don’t sleep on this one-armed redhead.

Though Kid might be capable of going against the Emperors with the help of his devil fruit, there is no denying that he also boasts strength equal to base Luffy as they labored at Udon prison. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 92, Chapter 926. One Piece Anime: Episode 919)

Kid’s metallic constructs are powerful enough to break Big Mom’s arm (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1038) and even pinned down the Yonko with his awakened Jiki-Jiki no Mi ability (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1040).  As one the main protagonist’s rivals, we can expect more from Eustass Kid in the upcoming arcs.

Awakening the powers of Mochi-Mochi no Mi, Katakuri can turn his surroundings into mochi and use the environment to his advantage. On top of his immense strength, he possesses creativity and combat talent on par with Monkey D. Luffy.

Future Sight ability is something to worry about and is recognized by Capone Bege to be the greatest obstacle to his assassination plans. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 86, Chapter 860. One Piece Anime: Episode 830). Time and time again he was able to look into the future especially with his fight against Luffy, where he was able to avoid even the fastest Gomu-Gomu attacks (One Piece Manga: Vol. 88, Chapter 884. One Piece Anime: Episode 857)

Although he usually avoids direct attacks, Katakuri also exhibits tremendous durability and endurance—being able to withstand a barrage of powerful attacks from Gear 4 Luffy and easily managing to counterattack. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 88, Chapter 884. One Piece Anime: Episode 857). And how he was able to fight with Luffy non-stop for 12 hours in the Mirror-World without issue and only fell into exhaustion at the very end. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 89, Chapter 896. Up next is an all-time fan favourite and the iconic user of three sword style, Roronoa Zoro. During the Wano arc, especially at the raid of Onigashima, Zoro had an endless display of strength.

Zoro’s biggest feat in the series yet is blocking the combined attack, “Ocean Sovereignty” of Yonkos Big Mom and Kaido. (One Piece Manga: Volume 100, Chapter 1009). And in that short while he prevented the early defeat of the Supernovas. Even after having his bones broken from the attack, Zoro displayed superb endurance by scarring Kaido with his “Asura – Dead Man’s Game” which the emperor regarded to be imbued with Haoshoku Haki. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 100, Chapter 1010).

But Zoro doesn’t stop there, he also defeats Kaido’s highest-ranking officer, King, in a 1v1 after having Enma and his own Haki under control (One Piece Manga: Vol. 102, Chapter 1035). However, it is not only because of Enma he was capable of such feats, his talent of the sword and strength proves him worthy of Oden’s legendary blade.

Even way back in Marineford, Marco is one of the few commanders that can stand up against the admirals. He has such impressive speed and durability that he just kept soaking named attacks from the likes of Kizaru (One Piece Manga: Vol. 57, Chapters 553. One Piece Anime: Episode 463). and Akainu (One Piece Manga: Vol. 59, Chapter 575. One Piece Anime: Episode 484).

“Surgeon of Death” Trafalgar Law possesses one of the most OP Devil Fruits in the franchise, the Ope Ope no Mi. With his Devil Fruit, Law can gain control over whatever is inside his room. And the offensive techniques are my god, extremely lethal!

What brings Law so high up the list is his versatility, I mean, his bag is endless with the Ope-Ope no Mi! His utility skills had been moving the Supernovas around the rooftop, making him one of the best supports in One Piece. With his DF, he can even imitate the late Rosinante’s Nagi-Nagi no Mi via R-Room. (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1040)

Law’s Devil Fruit awakening creates an even lethal version of Room called “Kroom” paired by “Puncture Wille” to execute an attack that not only damaged Big Mom from the inside, but also managed to create a massive hole in Wano Kuni. It is clear that the Yonko definitely hates that attack (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1039).

She can utilize her DF in various ways for both offense and defense, as well as conjure powerful blasts like Namuji Hyoga that can counter even Kaido’s Bolo Breath. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 101, Chapter 1020)

Just like her father, has unlocked Conqueror’s Haki coating. The blows from her Kanabo are strong enough to break through Kaido’s defenses. She is also agile enough to keep up with her father’s speed and can also use Thunder Bagua. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 101, Chapter 1024)

On top of his already monstrous strength as we’ve seen in his fight against Burgess, he easily dispatched the Titanic Commander with a direct Hikken. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 79, Chapter 792. Anime: Episode 735) Sabo even held himself very well with his clash against Fujitora.

The only known Marine to have a confirmed Conqueror’s Haki and wielder of the mythical Zoan, Ito-Ito no Mi, Model: Buddha. Sengoku might have turned into a bubbly old man after timeskip, but let’s be real, he’s one of the GOATED marines in the entire series!

At his prime, Sengoku was considered by Roger as one of the Marines that could challenge him alongside Garp. Sengoku and Garp have even fought and captured the Golden Lion Shiki when he was still an admiral, in a battle that destroyed half of Marineford. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 0, Chapter 0. One Piece Anime: Episode 0)

Sengoku is undoubtedly one of the strongest figures in the side of the World Government, as shown in Marineford how he was able to clash against Blackbeard’s Gura-Gura attack with his own shockwaves. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 59, Chapter 579. One Piece Anime: Episode 448)

No questions asked as to why Luffy managed to clash against the top tiers of the new world with just his fists, just look at his old man Garp. The old man is father to the world’s most wanted man, and the grandfather of the world’s naughtiest rubber boy. And he, the hero of the Marines, is no less troublesome than his predecessors.

Good old Garp has a light training regimen of destroying mountains, and sometimes bashing someone’s skull in. As he did with Don Chinjao’s earth splitting head (One Piece Manga: Vol. 72, Chapter 719. One Piece Anime: Episode 649). Garp has indeed shown tremendous strength and superb use of Haki, worthy of his title, “Garp the Fist”.

Garp’s overall reputation allowed him to remain in service to the Marines despite his rash behavior towards the World Nobles. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 90, Chapter 905. One Piece Anime: Episode 882) Letting go of Garp would mean a big L for the Marines, well, we can wait a couple of years before his student, Helmeppo the Chin is strong enough to carry on his legacy.

Given his age, Rayleigh is still extremely fast, fast enough to intercept Kizaru who was inches away from killing Zoro and even fighting the Admiral equally in a swordfight (One Piece Manga: Vol. 52, Chapter 511-512. One Piece Anime: Episode 404)

Coming up at number 10, we have the ever-notorious pirate, Marshall D. Teach. Just like Luffy, he made a name for himself during Impel Down and Marineford arc, and even earned his position as Emperor of the Sea as he took over Whitebeard’s territory and defeated the remnants of the Whitebeard Pirates in the Payback War. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 82, Chapter 820. One Piece Anime: Episode 773)

The only thing that stops Blackbeard from going higher up the list is, his lack of use in Haki, which can be impressive since he is offered the seat as 2nd Division Commander by Whitebeard himself, and that is prior to acquiring the Yami-Yami no Mi.

As the Antithesis and main antagonist of our MC, Luffy. Blackbeard still got a lot of potential in the bag despite his already immense physical strength and two extremely powerful Devil Fruits. I really had to give him 11/10 for the ability factor because if he can break the DF limit rule, so do I! Right now, he could already be stronger than some of the emperors, but let’s have him sit here for now until further feats.

The Wisteria Tiger, though new to the current line-up of admirals, is just as powerful as the rest. Like every other admiral, he wields a very powerful Devil Fruit, namely, the Zushi-Zushi no Mi. Allowing him to have full control of Gravity in any direction and density he wants.

Issho is also a skilled swordsman and master of Bosushoku Haki, given how he can easily contend with powerful prodigies such as Luffy and Sabo. And though blind, his mastery over Kenboshoku Haki allows him to “see” the spirits and emotions of people around him. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 80, Chapter 799. One Piece Anime: Episode 744)

The cool thing about Issho is the way he just casually sends down meteors against anyone he doesn’t wish to… see. Instead of fighting Fujitora, his enemies will be too occupied in trying to destroy the meteors, just like how he initiated Law and Doffy’s meatball slicing contest in Dressrosa. Kizaru is yet the fastest character in the entire series up to date, we’ve seen during Sabaody how he casually dispatched Supernova captains in a blink of an eye. One Piece Anime: Episode 463) though his attack was intercepted by Diamond Jozu as mentioned earlier. His biggest feat by far is surviving an encounter against Buggy.

Though Mihawk was never actually seen using his full strength, we can tell by his rival, Shanks, that he is skills rival to that of an Emperor of the Sea. It is even stated that their duels echoed throughout the Grand Line.

There aren’t many characters in the One Piece world that can take point-blank quakes from a pissed off Whitebeard and make it out alive. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 59 Chapter 575 and One Piece Anime: Episode 484)

Just like Kuzan, Sakakuzi most likely awakened his Devil Fruit abilities as seen how he permanently changed the half island into a blazing hell. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 67, Chapter 658. One Piece Anime: Episode 582)

Sakazuki’s Magu-Magu no Mi truly lives up to being called the Devil Fruit with highest offensive power, as anyone who’s ever faced him in a 1v1 didn’t come out in one piece. Marshall D. Teach should’ve taught them the tricks and fled while the Red Dog is still a hundred miles away. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 61, Chapter 595. One Piece Anime: Episode 513)

Placing Luffy very high on this list made me realize how far we’ve already come. With his awakened Devil Fruit and Advance Conqueror’s Haki, Monkey D. Luffy is indeed the Warrior of Liberation. Capable of creating a Haki coated fist the size of an island: “Gomu-Gomu no Bajrang Gun”. (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1048)

Luffy’s Devil Fruit is most feared by the World Government, and even considered it the most ridiculous power in the world. (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1044) With his awakening, Luffy can turn anything he touches into rubber which creates a cartoon effect in his fight and we are yet to see the full potential of Ito-Ito no Mi, Model: Nika.

The biggest W for both Luffy and One Piece fans is that the Joyboy possession and reincarnation allegations are finally in the mud! Kaido himself described Devil Fruit awakenings as something that happens when one’s mind and body finally catch up to their abilities. (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1046)

With him and Kaido splitting the clouds in the sky with their Conqueror’s Haki, Luffy is already at the level of emperors even before Gear 5th. Just like what Zoro and Sanji said, we’re finally a step closer to seeing Luffy become the King of the Pirates!

Despite being an enigmatic figure in the world of One Piece, yeah, we already know some things from Shanks but, are those really it? The Emperor title, the Haki proficiency, the most balanced crew in the Blue Sea, and a former member of Roger Pirates. Shanks is one of the earliest characters introduced and this is all we’ve got of him.

Though one thing’s for sure, Shanks is truly a powerful individual. His presence in the Marineford war alone shook the core of both Marines and Pirates, that even Blackbeard and Sengoku decided to call it a day because this one-armed red head said so. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 59, Chapter 580. Anime: Episode 489)

We’ve witnessed the first Advanced COC clash with Shanks and Whitebeard. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 45, Chapter 434. One Piece Anime: Episode 316) It is easy to tell even way back then, that only the strongest can split the sky with a clash of their weapons.

But for now, everything Shanks does is a mystery. Such as how he stopped Kaido from arriving at Marineford and showed up without a single scratch. And how he’s able to step into the Mary Geoise without catching smoke from any of the Gorosei. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 90, Chapter 907. One Piece Anime: Episode 887)

“In a one on one, always bet on Kaido” Even in his defeat, this statement stands firm. Throughout the raid in Onigashima, Kaido fought a lot of high-end fighters from the alliance’s side, all while moving the entire island of Onigashima. (One Piece Manga: Vol. 99, Chapter 997. One Piece Anime: Episode 1011)

Kaido was attacked from the inside and out but was never torn down by the Scabbards, Supernovas, Momo, and Yamato. Truly, Kaido was a terrifying villain to face, and judging by his backstory, he is confident enough with his powers to say that Joyboy is the one that will be able to defeat him! (One Piece Manga: Chapter 1049)

I know the story still has a long way to go, but there aren’t a handful of antagonists left that could ever live up to Kaido’s legacy. I haven’t got a lot to say about Kaido’s strength because the entire arc of Wano already is a pure exhibition of how strong this creature is. He literally exceeds everyone in any given factor, and he has receipts to show for those who doubt his strength.

Conclusion

The Four Emperors saga has been an action-fest where a lot of characters got to show off their strength and power ups. However, there are characters  yet to emerge from the shadows with unthinkable prowess that we are totally unaware of.

That’s it, our current top 32 strongest One Piece characters up until Chapter 1052. It’s been a long cruise but we’re still far from over! The best way to enjoy One Piece is to look not only into a character’s strength, but also to their emotions and significance in the story, because Oda is one heck of an artisan when it comes to making these characters.
