31+ BEST Slice of Life Manhwa (Korean Webtoons!)

Let me make one thing clear, I love the Slice of Life genre regardless of the medium. And once you get into it, you will too. There are too many slice-of-life manhwas to just make a list of only 32 titles. Don’t you agree?

Like anyone else, I used to love the adrenaline-rushing action, the sweet tooth romance and anything in between. But after stumbling upon the Slice of Life genre, I feel that it is the most undervalued genre of them all. Unlike other genres that either have a goal or a final destination, Slice of Life represents that life isn’t all about goals, life isn’t all about fulfilling dreams.

Life can be just about enjoying time with yourself, life can be just about doing the same thing over and over again without getting bored. That is what Slice of Life reminds me of.

And there are tons of Korean comics, commonly known as Manhwa which represent the Slice of Life genre through distinct narratives. So, without any further ado, let’s dive right into the list of Top 32 Slice of Life Manhwa you should definitely read.

Are you someone who is into gender bender narratives? If you are one of them, then you will definitely enjoy Love in the Mask.

Growing up amidst the cruelty of the street, from begging to gangsters, Hyun-Bin’s life is nothing but tragic. But after her brother’s death, Hyun-Bin escapes from that life straight into the clutches of a rich family.

Though the word “rich” might sound nice, in reality, she has to be the bodyguard of Yae-Ha pretending to be a male. But as in other stories, she comes across Yun-Ha, a delinquent who is going to change her life forever. “Name it” and “Love in the Mask” has it. It is a full-fledged meal that should satisfy both your heart and stomach.

The more I get into manhwas, the more I appreciate how open they are with the gender element and how beautifully they represent their ideas without any bounds. And this one is nothing different.

Kim So-nyuh (Suga Bae) is the son of the vice principal. Like any other father and also being the vice principal, the expectations towards him are sky-high. But Suga’s interests and thoughts are all about swimsuits. However, they are pure and genuine.

Unfortunately, he was forced to join the girls’ water polo team after getting caught while clicking photos. Doesn’t it tickle your curiosity? My Heart Is Beating is another Slice of Life Korean comic, especially for gender bender lovers.

Manhwa Storyline:

My Young Cat and My Old Dog is a manhwa with episodic narratives. Sometimes it’s about the relationship between an old poodle, Nang-nak, a young and adorable kitten, Soondae, and their owners. While sometimes it is from the cat and dog’s point of view, sometimes the narratives are autobiographical, from the author’s perspective.

This Korean comic sounds and looks wholesome, so just go for it. Unlike other manhwas, you don’t have to binge-read it as it is episodic. You can read a chapter while on a coffee break or at breakfast. Anytime you want to refresh your mind.

By the way, have you watched the anime “With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun”? It has a similar premise, the anime has only 24 episodes with 1-minute per episode. It made my day. Though we are talking about manhwa here, as it is focused mainly on the Slice of Life genre, I thought I should recommend something similar to it.

Hoon Lee is a 17 year-old hikikomori. He tries to commit suicide. Why do you ask? His mother passed away, he is constantly bullied, his cruel father left an unimaginable debt to him, that too when he is at the prime of his teens.

But as soon as he experiences the pain of attempting suicide, he turns back on his decision and lives another day to tackle life head-on. But how long?

Though it’s a part of the Slice of Life genre, as the title suggests, Suicide Boy is a manhwa that is based on a sensitive topic. Please keep that in mind before reading it. Other than that, you can just look at it as any other creative media out there. The slice of life genre is not just about the typical “happiness is in the small moments of life”, it also mirrors the reality of life.

Have you heard of the saying “The way to one’s heart goes through the stomach”? This Slice of Life manhwa illustrates that saying throughout its story and it’s fulfilling. I agree it sounds cliche, but believe me, you will LOVE IT. It’s fingerlickingly delicious.

A guy named Hae-Gyung Kim and a girl named Do-hee Woo meet at a restaurant where both of them dine alone. Being single and regular customers there, they continue to bond over food and unknowingly begin to heal each other’s wounds of the past. And obviously, their heart flutters, but is it what you think it is?

I Wish is the Slice of Life manhwa alternative to Fullmetal Alchemist. The story is moderately based on “Equivalent Exchange” and you will see why I said that.

K is a wizard who grants wishes. However, there’s a catch, you have to offer him the most precious thing in return. Jin Ryu, a girl who just lost her parents and her brother, begs K to bring them back to life.

While K warns her about the outcome, she keeps on insisting. Looking at her persistence, K keeps her as an apprentice, to give her a clear view of the pit of fire she is ready to dive into. Will K grant her wish? Or will Jin Ryu have a change of heart? There’s supernatural, there’s drama, there’s romance and that’s why I Wish… is a no-brainer read for anyone looking for a good slice of life manhwa.

The Children’s Teacher, Mr. Kwon follows the life of a former gangster who moves to the countryside from Seoul to become a teacher. Soon he discovers a new side to himself, where he is ready to do anything to better the quality of life of those children.

It is a manhwa alternative to Great Teacher Onizuka. Try it if you love Eikichi Onizuka. Besides all that, The Children’s Teacher, Mr. Kwon is adorable and fulfilling and that’s why it’s on the list of the top slice of life manhwa.

And just like that Baek Ma Ri, a young vampire who has to live the life of a nomad due to the discrimination against the vampires. Though vampires drink pig blood to quench their thirst, the sudden encounter with the sweet blooded Jung Jae Min has stirred up that forbidden thirst. While some may fear a vampire as the victim, for Jung Jae Min, it is the exact opposite, he is falling in love. I mean yeah, why not, it’s a manhwa after all. The opposites attract, always.

Coming back to the plot, this Korean manhwa follows the life of Kang Eun Ju. After losing both her job and the house, she accepts the job of live-in caretaker of a mansion despite being annoyed by the employer Kwak Woo Jin, who is always full of himself. A character-centric narrative, which is not new but entertaining nevertheless an entertaining slice of life manhwa for sure.

Drowned in despair, he attempts suicide but So Ri Jeon, who proclaims to be his huge fan saves him. So Ri Jeon is deaf but she is head over heels for his manhwas.

It’s never too late to start what you love. A simple narrative based on the notion is applicable in this era more than anything else. An arbitrary sequence of events in a character’s life is presented and it is worth a read.

Salty Studio might be the slice of life Korean comic that will entertain you as well as inspire you at the end of the journey. Do give it a read if you are stuck in a dilemma like Togeun Jung.

And if not for his encounter with the young Dukchul, Lee Chae Rok would have surrendered his precious dream to the adversities of life.

How many have you read from the above-mentioned slice of life manhwas? Let me know in the comment section below.
