Appearance
Suma is a dainty, young woman of fair complexion. She has long and unruly black hair that sprawls past her shoulders. A messy and uneven fringe adorns her forehead, in a similar style to Inosuke Hashibara’s. Her round facial features highlight her large pupils and notably exotic eyebrows.
In the manga, she wears a sleeveless, low-cut dress with a light-coloured Décolletage. The dress is parted at the sides for a more flexible fit, along with a relaxed build around the cleavage area. A simple light-coloured Obi covers her hip; contrasting the darker undertones of the outfit. Later in the series, she is seen donning a deep-cut kimono with short sleeves, along with a tasuki around her shoulder region and a more layered Obi to go with it. Her hair is tied up in a thick ponytail, with her usual bangs and two streaks stretched along the length of her face.
Personality
Due to the inflated portrayal of her emotions, Suma is often analogized as the female version of Zenitsu Agasuma. She is portrayed as being highly sensitive to threatening situations. When the two ladies fought the Obi in the underground cavern, Suma had a breakdown after revealing she was the first one captured. Suma’s pessimistic attitude in this situation is greeted with the usual frustration from Makio and unusual delight for the Obi. (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 79)
When it comes to matters of the heart, Suma is equally as sensitive. When Tengen finally meets the ladies after the Obi mission, Suma instinctively begins to tear up along with Makio, grabbing onto him as they cry (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 80).
Strength And Weaknesses
Shinobi Attributes
As a trained shinobi, she possesses the required attributes of stealth, flexibility, and speed. She is often spotted with two kunai as her choice of weapon, similar to Uzui’s other wives.
Weakness To Danger
However, she is held back by her allergy to dangerous situations. She informs Inosuke that she’ll be able to aid him in fighting the Obi, but follows it up by saying that she’s not a fighter. Maiko subsequently insists her not to be so humble and stop sulking over the past. It hints that Suma could have further potential if she had more overall confidence in her ability as a Demon Slayer.
Facts
- Suma is surprisingly attracted to both genders.
- Suma disturbed her sister’s supposed marriage with Tengen because of her feelings for him. She was successful and got married to Tengen instead.
- Out of the three, she was Tengen‘s first wife.
Past/History

Suma was Tengen’s first chosen wife. Suma welcomed the addition of Hinatsuru and Makio with pleasure. When Uzui left the clan, he took Suma and the others alongside him, enlightening them in the ways of the shinobi livelihood. They regularly helped out Tengen in reconnaissance or minor missions. He used letters to communicate with his wives when they were away on these missions, and promptly went in to aid them if things got out of hand (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 90).
Relationships
Tengen Uzui
Since the shinobi clan of the Sound Hashira practices polygamy, Uzui can be married to three women simultaneously. The head of the clan chooses the wives for him but always considers the chemistry between the two before making the final verdict. Suma is one of these three wives, alongside Makio and Hinatsuru.
Tengen shares an intimately strong bond with his consorts despite his characteristically flamboyant personality. He displays this facet of his character only to the ones that are truly close to him.
His deep emotions to Suma and the others are shown when he makes them go against the idea of self-sacrifice to complete a task. At some point in time, Suma was educated alongside Makio and Hinatsuru by their husband on his personal philosophy: to put their own lives as their first priority, then notable humans, and lastly himself. Thus, he asks them to cherish their lives more and retreat when faced with life-threatening situations (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 80).
The caring attitude between Tengen and his wives are very much mutual, as seen when they were in a panic when he nearly passed out from the poison of Gyutaro (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 95).
Makio
Suma shares a sibling-like relationship with Makio, who always seems to be ticked off by her co-wife’s careless behavior; as well as her overall lack of despondent nature in tough situations (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 79). When everyone reunites after the Obi mission, she can be seen scolding Suma for her dozy assumptions about Hinatsuru’s death (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 94, Page 18). Suma also seems pretty stressed out when she’s around Maiko, as illustrated in the Hashira Training Arc.
Plot
Entertainment District Arc
When looking into the incidents of the Red Light district, The Tokito house appointed Suma as an Oiran. After suddenly disappearing shortly after, rumours began to surface that she may have run away with an affluent companion. When Tanjiro Kamado conducted an undercover investigation at the brothel, he caught a whiff of these rumours but came to close that it has a connection to something far more menacing.
Later on, when Insouke Hashibara joins the effort, he finds a cave that contains a hanging Obi along with its multiple captured victims; including both Suma and Makio. After freeing the countless victims, including Uzui’s wives, he continues slicing up the Obi while Makio and Suma defend the people from being drawn into the Obi again. A loud thud is heard from the ceiling of the cavern. Suma’s large, lit eyes look in awe as Tengen makes a grand drop to the battlefield (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 79). After toning down the Obi, he finally meets his wives after a long drought. As he expresses his gratitude for their noble efforts, the two break down in tears against their beloved husband.
Infinity Castle Arc
Tengen is made aware of Nezuko’s escape from the Ubayashiki residence via Suma.

Hashira Training Arc
Suma, Hinatsuru and Makio appear alongside Tengen, who was training Kamado Tanjiro at the time. They can be seen in the process of making onigiri, as a form of nourishment for the trainees (Demon Slayer Manga: Chapter 132 ,Pages 2-3).
