ALL Baki the Grappler (Characters)
Introduction
Baki is a martial arts anime that has become increasingly popular over the years. Its popularity skyrocketed even more after Netflix acquired the rights to it. It has a diverse cast of characters that makes the show unique with each of their own personalities.
This is why sometimes it gets hard to keep track of your favourite characters. Here we will provide information about all the characters in the Baki series so that you may never forget about another character again. We will be going through the main characters at first.
Table of Contents

I’m glad to see more international involvement with our community. Baki is also a great anime with a fantastic plot, so I’m definitely not mad at their choice. Psst! Netflix. Next time, do Deadman Wonderland Season 2. I know you got money.
ALL Baki Main Characters

Baki Hanma
Now of course it is only fair that we start off with our main character, Baki a,fter whom the whole series has been named. He has always been involved in martial arts since his childhood with the only goal in mind. His aim is to defeat his father who is known as the Ogre by people all around.
This is why Baki had been receiving his training from his mother. But at the mere age of thirteen, he suddenly decides that it is not enough. He needs to learn about new fighting styles and techniques to even have the slightest chance of defeating his father (Baki Manga: Chapter 1).
His rigorous hard work and determination saw him earning the title of Champion in the Underground Arena and being known as the World’s Strongest Boy.

Yuujiro Hanma
Next comes the main villain himself, Yuujiro Hanma. He is the sole reason behind Baki’s entire existence and purpose. He is up there with Baki as one of the strongest characters in the series who can shred opponents to pieces. He works as a mercenary for various organizations and usually takes on assassination jobs.
It earns him quite a high amount of money which helps him to afford his lavish lifestyle. If Baki came to be known as the World’s Strongest Boy, his father was known as the Strongest Creature on Earth. He appeared for the first time in the chapter “An Unforgivable Loss” (Baki Manga: Chapter 35).

Doppo Orochi
Up next in our list we have Orochi, not to be confused with Orochi from One Piece. Doppo Orochi looks like a guy who can kick anyone’s ass. The eye patch he wears makes him look even scarier. The funny thing is, he is actually a very compassionate and caring man despite having such a tough look.
He has a wife named Natsue Orochi and a child named Katsumi Orochi. He runs a karate school and has been dabbling in the arts of combat for 50 years. He also trained Kiyosumi Katou and Atsushi Suedou.

Kaiou Retsu
Kaiou Retsu was a beast in the Chinese Kenpo fighting style. He was quite close to Katsumi Orochi and the two of them shared a bond. Despite starting out as a villainous character, he slowly became a major part of the story. We later came to know that his actual name was Eishuu Retsu.
Since China was his birth land, it explains his mastery over Chinese Kenpo. The fact that he shined in such a difficult technique speaks highly of his determination and strength of character.

Gouki Shibukawa
Gouki Shibukawa is a man of 75 years of age who has been training since the end of World War II. He trained and trained until he could master the fighting style of Jiu Jutsu. As we know with old age comes serenity and Gouki definitely knows how to remain calm even in the toughest of situations. People often refer to him as the Master.
But behind that calm personality, Gouki also has a hidden violent nature which proves that he is no pushover. People can’t get away simply by stepping all over him. When sweet words don’t have any action, Gouki knows how to finish the job.

Kaoru Hanayama
Karou Hanayama stood apart from the rest of the characters due to his unique street fighting skills. He is a Yakuza boss and also has the looks for it. Nothing seems to bother Karou in any way. He excels at whatever he does, whether it is street fighting or it is being a Yakuza boss.
He has got a scarred appearance that he wears with pride and on top of it, there is a tattoo of a jigsaw puzzle on his back. No one can look at him and guess that he is only 19 years of age and leading an entire gang on his back. He is the silent type of guy who does not speak unnecessarily everywhere.

Katsumi Orochi
Katsumi Orochi is the son of Doppo Orochi and since his father runs a karate academy, he is a prodigy in that fighting style. Katsumi is not related by blood to Doppo and is his adopted son. But that has not made any effect on their strong bond of father and son. He saw him for the first time when he was going to the Underground Arena (Baki Manga: Chapter 181).
He is by far one of the strongest fighters in the series which is quite evident from his nickname of the Lethal Weapon. He is very flexible in using both his arms and legs to attack the enemy. He also knows a variety of karate moves which makes him a nightmare for opponents.

Biscuit Oliva
Biscuit Oliva hails from the United States and is a sneaky assassin. His talent was noticed by the US government which led them to recruit him as one of their assassins. However, his main job is being a jailer of the Arizona State Prison.
He considers his body as a temple and has taken care of it so much that it is almost impossible to take him out. But despite everything, Oliva is not all about brawn. He is also quite intelligent as he did not want to lack in that area. There is a huge library in his home where he likes to train his mind.

Jack Hanma
Jack Hanma is the step-brother of the protagonist Baki Hanma. His father is Yuujiro Hanma while his mother is Diane Neil. He belongs to Canada and is an excellent pit fighter. The major similarity of Jack to Baki is that he also wants to overtake his father in terms of power.
His mad fighting skills in the pit has led to all people calling him the Jack Hammer. Other than that, one similarity is that he is completely opposite to Baki. While Baki believes in powering himself up through training all day and night, Jack relies on steroids. He took so many steroids at one point that it made him a monster who was hungry for revenge.

Mitsunari Tokugawa
The Underground Arena is like a trademark of the Baki series. And the one who runs it is Mitsunari Tokugawa (Baki Manga: Chapter 17). He is a very old man who despite not being a fighter himself, has set up the fighting arena very well. He also made the fights without any rules which makes it all the more exciting.
Everyone respects Mitsunari by addressing him as the Noble Elder. What he lacks in fighting strength, he makes up for it with his vast expansive knowledge of different fighting techniques. However, some can even call him a tad bit psychotic for his obsession with fights.

Kozue Matsumoto
Kozue is Baki’s girlfriend in the series. She used to be his classmate and she is also the daughter of his landlady. She has been shown as a very shy and introverted girl who insanely cares for Baki. This is why she is always so concerned about him and does not want him to spend his days in the Underground Arena.
This is also due to the fact that her father died while fighting in the Arena and she does not want the same to happen to Baki. But even though she couldn’t change his mind about it, she supports and cheers him on through every battle.

Gerry Strydum
Gerry Strydum belongs to the USA and serves as a general in the army. He usually tags along Yuujiro whom he met in the Vietnam War. It also comes as no surprise that Yuujiro almost killed him in that encounter.
If there is any person who understands Yuujiro even a little bit, it is Gerry Strydum. Being a General, he is also a brave and courageous man. He never backs away from any challenge and is ready to call out unjust acts.

Izou Motobe
Izou is a middle-aged man under whom Baki used to undergo intensive training (Baki Manga: Chapter 3). He is a Jiu Jutsu expert who bears the pain of losing to Yuujiro, both physically and emotionally. After that, he leveled up his training and started learning new techniques.
Similar to Baki, he also wanted to beat Yuujiro but could never reach the point where he was ready to give him a strong fight. He is a pragmatist when it comes to fighting which can sometimes hold him back in certain scenarios. Also, he is not at all an emotional person and rarely gets heated up about anything other than defeating Yuujiro.

Koushou Shinogi
Koushou Shinogi is a character in the Baki series who has a unique fighting style. He has an elder sibling named Kureha and he is a karate expert.
But the most interesting thing is that he has modified his fighting style in such a way that he deals damage to the enemy in the form of slashes that leaves deep cuts on them. This allows him to tear up the enemies’ blood vessels and other vital organs. Sadly this also made him overconfident in his abilities and he ultimately fell to the ground on losing to Baki Hanma.

Kureha Shinogi
Kureha Shinogi is the older brother of Koushou Shinogi. Similar to his brother, he is also unique in his own way. Not only is he a brilliant fighter but he is also a genius surgeon. This makes him a valuable asset on the battlefield as he can provide the necessary medical support.
He can also be versatile and help in fighting whenever needed. This is why everyone calls him the Super Doctor who is proficient in both surgery and fighting. He has another similarity to his brother and that is being overconfident of his abilities. This is why he can come off as a very self-centred person sometimes.

Kiyosumi Katou
Kiyosumi Katou is a student of Doppo Orochi in the series of Baki. He has trained hard under his master to perfect his karate fighting style. He usually prefers to go all out on his opponents and does not like to hold back.
He even targets the soft spots of his opponents such as the eyes to put them at a disadvantage. Under Doppo, he trained so much that he started to consider his techniques weak. As a result, he left the place and started looking for new techniques while living as a Yakuza.
