It won’t be wrong to say that at least once in our lives, we have come across someone in the weirdest place and became friends with them. That’s what happened with Denji when he met Pochita near his father’s grave. If we are being honest, Denji’s father is probably one of the worst fathers we have seen in our anime journey, but at least he was the reason for something positive happening in Denji’s life after his death.
While visiting his father in the graveyard in the very first chapter of the series, Denji came across a cute yet dangerous dog with a chainsaw stuck between its head. Denji was quick to recognize that it was not a dog but a devil, but still offered him his blood as he heard previously that devils can heal if they drink a human’s blood and that’s how Pochita became friends with Denji.

Appearance
It won’t be wrong to say that looks can be deceiving in the case of Pochita. At first he looked like a really weak and cute devil that resembled a dog but Pochita’s true form is definitely something that would keep you up at night in fear. While he was in his dog form, Pochita was shown to be either orange or sometimes red in the manga, and it will be interesting to see what MAPPA will do with him in the anime.
He could even bring out handles from somewhere (believe us, we don’t want to find out how too!) that Denji used to hold when he used Pochita as a chainsaw to cut trees so he could pay off his debt to the Yakuza.
Pochita’s true form brings out a humanoid devil with four arms and chainsaws coming out of each and everyone of them, with even his face being a literal chainsaw similar to what Denji’s face looks like in his hybrid form. You won’t see this persona of Pochita for a long time as it will come out for the first time in the 83rd chapter of the story which is almost near the very end of the story.

Pochita is one of the most mysterious devils out there when it comes to how he behaves around humans. The first time he saw Denji, he wasn’t really hostile towards Denji and waited to see the reaction of the human in front of him. He always communicated with Denji through barks like a real dog and the first time he spoke to him was when he fused with him to bring him back to life. It was always clear that he truly cared about Denji and wanted nothing more than for him to fulfill all his wishes and dreams which makes him perhaps the best friend anyone could ask for in the world of anime.
However, our favourite little Pochita turns a bit more terrifying when he comes out in his real devil form. He is a lot more violent, and is willing to take out whatever threat is in front of him without any second thought at all. However, he is also willing to help those who are in need which shows his dynamic personality among all of the devils we see in the series.
Strengths and Skills
Contract Establishment
Every devil in the universe of Chainsaw Man has the ability to establish contracts with humans to grant them their powers. Pochita established a contract with Denji where he will be Denji’s heart in exchange for him living a normal life which cements the fact that Pochita is unlike any devil we have seen before.
Chainsaws
Pochita can grant Denji the power of Chainsaws and make his arms and face literal chainsaws which he can use in combat with others.
Davil Erasure
Pochita is the only devil known in the series that has the ability to remove the existence of other devils. If Pochita is able to consume another devil, then they won’t be reincarnated and the fear they brought to the world was erased. It can be seen that the characters in the world of Chainsaw Man really don’t have any idea of historical events like the Holocaust and Nuclear Attacks which shows that at some point in time Pochita dealt with them, hence, their respective fears were forgotten from the world.
Immortality
As a devil, Pochita is immortal because he is the only one who can remove the existence of other devils by consuming them.
Facts
- You will be surprised to find out that the early design of Pochita resembles the Makita Chainsaws. He has the same color and even the eye of Pochita could be seen on the real world chainsaw itself as a white circle. There are people who are sure that the writer definitely took the inspiration for Pochita from there and even named him after them. The first part of Pochita’s name is “Pochi” which is essentially a very common name for dogs in Japan and the “Ta” part is taken from Makita itself.
- There are some similarities between Denji and Pochita with how famous Disney characters Goofy and Pluto were. Goofy was relatively a poor guy trying to make an honest life out of his work. He also had a dog who helped him sometimes who was also orange like Pochita!
- Pochita ranked ninth in both of the character popularity polls but we have a feeling he will be definitely ranked higher after recent revelations about his past came to light.
- Pochita’s biggest wish in this world is to be hugged which might explain how Denji came to his normal self in the first chapter of the story when Makima hugged him.
Relationships
Denji
Pochita cares deeply about Denji and is even willing to die for his sake. It is highly uncharacteristic for a devil to act like this but it further shows how strong the bond between the two is. It can even be thought of as a similar relationship to what we saw in Naruto, where Naruto and Kurama existed in the same body and deeply cared about each other.
He also acted as a barrier between Denji and his repressed memories. He always told him to not open the door because that’s where the darkest secrets of Denji were.
Makima
Pochita’s relationship with Makima is really complicated. At the end of the day Makima wants to live and raise a family with Pochita because he is the only one who can not fall under the influence of her powers but Pochita doesn’t like her at all and even killed her twenty six times but never erased her existence.
Power
Hitto Kakucho is regarded even by Izana Kurokawa as the strongest member in Tenjiku. He is one of the Four Heavenly Kings and is extremely loyal to Izana. After his parent’s death, he would stand side by side with Izana as his most trusted servant. While the fight against Toman was ongoing, Kisaki Tetta who was told by Izana to kill Kakucho fires his handgun at him but Izana directly jumps in front of Kakucho to save him. He is told by Izana to create the era they dreamed of together. Kakucho would live on to become Bonten’s Number 3.
Plot

Pochita is known as “The Devil that Devils fear the most” because of his unique talents. There is little information available regarding the background of Pochita before we first see him with Denji on Earth, but originally Pochita is from Hell, like every other devil and was known as the Chainsaw Man while he was there. Pochita was the only devil that could erase the existence of another devil which means that they wouldn’t be reincarnated like they usually do as a different version of themselves. As a result of this power, he was targeted by the majority out there in hell. They killed him so many times but Pochita always came back to haunt them and in the process gained a huge amount of devils following him.
He eventually found himself in a full fledged war with other devils and fell against Makima and her underlings. That’s how he came in the little dog form we saw him for the first time in the series.
When trees grow too close to power lines, they can cause power outages and pose safety risks. That’s when it’s time to act.
