Bonten Wiki

Bonten is one the most notorious criminal organizations of the latest present timeline. Debuting in Chapter 194, it is told that Bonten is led by Sano Manjiro, who was once the president of the Tokyo Manji Gang. There are 8 higher-ups in the gang, but the exact hierarchy and the number of members are yet unknown. Bonten is involved with every crime imagineable: drugs, theft, murder and many more.

Etymology

Bonten (梵天) roughly means heavens, sky. The first kanji (梵) refers to Buddhism, while the second (天) brings the omnipotent meaning. When the two kanjis are together, the phrase also describes the main god in the Hindu religion, Brahma.

This refers not only to the members’ interest in mythological references, but also the predecessors of the gang. Many main figures of the squad came from loads of previous organizations, one of which was exactly called Brahma.

Past/History

Bonten

Bonten brought together the strongest and most feared people of the underworld, although its exact formation process hasn’t been revealed yet. The most important members, like Mikey, Kakucho, and Takeomi[1] all came from different gangs, which suggests that the three most powerful squads of the time, the Kanto Manji Gang, Tokuhara Tendai, and Brahma merged somehow.

After Toman disbanded in the past, a power struggle started among the gangs of Tokyo. This time was called the Tokyo’s Sengoku Period, or the Tokyo’s Warring States Era, named after the famous Japanese historical age, the Sengoku Period.

Three major organizations were formed: the Kanto Manji Gang led by Mikey, Tokuhara Tendai led by South Terano, and Brahma led by Senju Kawaragi[2]. Except for Mikey, the rest of the leaders were moved from their positions, and the unification of these gangs created an absolute powerhouse, Bonten.

Mikey Quotes

Manjiro Sano

Mikey was a strong figure right from his childhood. He was a capable fighter, being able to beat much older guys without an issue. This was shown when he met Draken[3], and also in his grandfather’s dojo. Mikey didn’t fear anyone, as he obviously didn’t have to.

He and his friends laid the foundation for Toman when one of them got into a conflict with the Black Dragons. Toman grew quickly under Mikey’s leadership. They had around a hundred members before Takemichi joined. After beating and absorbing many gangs, like Moebius, Valhalla, and the Black Dragons, Toman was known as one of the strongest middle school gangs out there.

The battle with Tenjiku left many casualties, and Mikey decided to disband the squad[4]. This action had many members surprised, but they all accepted the president’s decision. A power struggle started, that involved many known faces of the young criminal world.

Mikey continued his work in another gang, the Kanto Manji Gang. Beforehand he told Takemichi, that he has a dark side. Mikey had problems with controlling his emotions and sometimes found that he doesn’t have any remorse for hurting others. He had mixed reactions to losing his loved ones.

Mikey turned to the dark side when he finally grew up, and currently leads the horrendous organization of Bonten. He hurts innocents without any hesitation, but deep down he still is a kid who wants to be saved. It’s up to Takemichi to find a future where he can be happy as well because the current one certainly isn’t perfect.

Haruchiyo Sanzu

Haruchiyo Sanzu

Bonten’s number two appears as a minor character for most of the story. He always stayed in the background, but he was there right from the 11th Chapter. He is actually a ruthless killing machine[5], somewhat like Kisaki, but unlike him, Sanzu wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.

It is unknown how Sanzu rose to such a high position, but he had unbreakable loyalty towards Mikey. When Muto defected to Tenjiku, he invited Sanzu as well. On the other hand, Sanzu had no intention of leaving Toman[6], even if he knew that defeat was inevitable with the current situation.

It was probably Sanzu who organized the following gangs for Mikey after Toman’s disbandment, as he had the intention of helping Mikey rise up to the top once again. No wonder he was chosen as Mikey’s right-hand man based on how much he worked to get the war machine going.

Hitto Kakucho

Kakucho Hitto

Kakucho was Takemichi’s childhood friend, but they were separated. Kakucho found comfort in the circle of Izana, the future leader of Tenjiku. Izana nominated Kakucho as one of the Heavenly Kings and regarded him as the strongest member of the gang. This was proved when Kakucho singlehandedly eliminated four of Toman’s most capable fighters during the Kanto Incident.

Kakucho was shot by Kisaki as he tried to calm down Izana and bring him back to the right track. Izana jumped into the way of the next few bullets, thus he died protecting Kakucho[7]. Losing his closest friend probably brought out some anger from Kakucho, but his next actions fold into the fog. He was a member of Tokuhara Tendai before joining Bonten.

Haitani Brothers Tokyo Revengers

Haitani Brothers

Being members of the Showa 62, also known as the „brutal generation”, they were feared among the delinquents of Tokyo. They took out the captains of Roppongi Kyougoku at the age of 13, proving to be the strongest fighters in the region. They used a combo technique there: Rindou locked down the joints of their enemies, while Ran obliterated their body with heavy hits.

They were invited to Tenjiku to strengthen their lines, and they proved to be efficient there. Despite being defeated by the „Blue Ogre”, Souta Kawata, they carried on their criminal lives, joining other gangs later such as Brahma.

Hajime Kokonoi

Koko is a genius at making money, and his bosses loved him for this ability. He was a member of many gangs, namely the Black Dragons, Tenjiku, and even Toman for a short period.

He followed his childhood friend, Inui everywhere, not really because we were important to him, but that Hajime wanted to atone for the death of Inui’s sister[8], as Hajime blamed himself for not having enough money to cover her treatment.

He clashed with Inui many during the Toman vs. Tenjiku battle and survived the fight without any major wounds. They later parted ways as neutrals. Hajime joined Bonten to continue his passion for making a bank and is probably involved in other crimes as well, as he didn’t show remorse for committing devious acts in the past either.
