Tokyo Revengers Review

Tokyo Revengers Review – ALL Episodes so far! (Episode 1 -18)

Tokyo Revengers managed to create a massive fan following right off the bat because of its unique storyline. It’s really not your average time-travel anime. The concept of time travel in Tokyo Revengers is an interesting one and gives a fresh spin to the story.

Now, it’s inevitable that people are definitely going to compare it to Erased. Both involve adults going back in time to fix the things in the past in order to change the course of their lives. However, Erased leaned more towards a mystery/thriller genre. With Tokyo Revengers, we’ve seen visible elements of Shounen. So, if you’re going to compare both the anime, please drop the thought!

Tokyo Revengers Story

The story revolves around a good-for-nothing corporate slave, Takemichi, who’s sick of his everyday life with no colour in it. He gets to know about how his former girlfriend from middle school who was also his ONLY girlfriend EVER got involved in a fight between two major gangs of Tokyo and died.

He started reminiscing about his past and that’s when he mysteriously got pushed in front of a train that transported him to his past self when he was in middle school. I think the legacy of “Truck-kun” transporting a lot of our MCs into other worlds shall continue to be “Train-kun” now.

The rest of the story revolves around our MC attempting to set things straight in the past so he doesn’t have to suffer in the present. He also meets a number of delinquents (WE SIMP) who are directly involved in all of this mess.

In terms of storytelling, the anime is doing a pretty great job so far. It’s consistent with no plot holes. The pace is perfect. The way it portrays the bitter-sweet emotions of the characters is pretty dope. It’s hard for us to wait for a new episode to come out every week. Can’t we have new episodes every day?!

Tokyo Revengers Art

There are a few people who are not happy with the style of art Tokyo Revengers is offering. It seems pretty daunting. The middle schoolers don’t look like middle schoolers AT ALL. Our MC literally looks younger when he’s his future self. Of course, the way most of the characters in the world of anime are portrayed has this problem of looking more like their dads. We’ll let Tokyo Revengers off the hook for this one given it offers a bunch of other AMAZING details.

The animation looks pretty nice. Despite dealing with a rather grim situation in the anime, we see brighter colours all around. It’s not a bad thing at all. It’s sharp just as the story demands. We admire how the creators have offered both censored and uncensored versions of the anime. We haven’t noticed anything too gore for us to handle yet though.

Takemichi, Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Characters

We’re SIMPING for ALL the characters in Tokyo Revengers and it’s really hard to pick only one for our simping purposes.

Tokyo Revengers offers us a number of very cool AND badass characters that instantly steal our hearts. We have these two MAJOR cool dudes, Mikey and Draken, who are the true definition of badass yakuzas. Though they’re middle schoolers, their death stare is scary enough to intimidate even a grown up!

Other than these two, our MC Takemichi was also able to make some space in our heart for himself when he quit being a wimp and acted like a real man, desperately wanting to save Hina. Hina’s brother Naoto looked like a shady dude at first but he only wanted to save his sister just like Takemichi.

We have two girls in Tokyo Revengers, both being polar opposites of each other. We can’t brush off how adorable Hina is whenever he is with Takemichi. Her character is given the traits of a mom friend that we absolutely adore!

Emma Sano is another girl who’s a total freak. She’s given the carefree and obsessive traits that the creators have portrayed very skillfully.

We’re yet to see a whole bunch of more characters and we can’t wait to simp some more over the newer ones. For characters in Tokyo Revengers, it’s a 10/10 without a doubt!

Tokyo Revengers

Sound & Voice Actors

The voice actors did a really good job giving life to the characters. The emotions are portrayed very well. Especially with our gang boys, it’s AMAZING

The opening and ending soundtracks have us hooked to them. The opening is especially jammable

Tokyo Revengers Episode 18 Review

Episode 18 brings us even closer to the Bloody Halloween fight between Toman and Valhalla. We already know how “bloody” it’s going to be with all those characters that know nothing but bloodshed. Yes, we’re talking about the likes of Shuji Hanma, Kesisuke Baji and Kazutora Hanemiya. Our boys from Toman are not to be taken lightly either.

Draken from the future reveals that Mikey ends up killing Kazutora on the day of Bloody Halloween. Now, Takemichi is not ready to buy it. The Mikey he knows can’t kill anyone. However, Draken reveals that the reason why Mikey killed Kazutora was that he killed Baji. Takemichi can’t believe his ears and is standing stunned in front of Draken. After Toman lost to Valhalla, Mikey ended up becoming the leader of Valhalla. And it was all Kisaki Tetta’s doing.

Naoto and Takemichi go back to his office and decide that Takemichi’s next mission is to save Baji at all costs. Takemichi then travels to the past and finds himself with Hinata in front of her house. Hinata gives Takemichi a necklace that looks exactly like the one he gave her. We love the sweet moments between the two but unfortunately, we do not get them a lot.

Meanwhile, Draken meets Kazutora to try stopping him for the one last time. But Kazutora is stubborn about fighting as he blames Mikey for the two years that he wasted in Juvenile. Kazutora sure has a twisted way of thinking.

On the other hand, Chifuyu and Takemichi meet Baji in order to convince him to come back to Toman. Chifuyu tells Baji that he knows how Baji is just trying to expose Kisaki by joining Valhalla. Baji finds his claim ridiculous and immediately shuts him down. Takemichi takes Baji to talk to him in private. He tells Baji to not get killed in the fight because it will make Mikey really sad. Baji tells Takemichi that it is not him who is going to get killed. Mikey will be getting killed by Baji himself.

The night before the Bloody Halloween fight, Mikey gathers Toman boys and tells them that they’re going to completely crush Valhalla and will not show any mercy to Baji as he’s a traitor. Then suddenly, he acts all childish and tells the gang that he can’t hurt Baji. So, the plan is to completely crush Valhalla while taking Baji back. Takemichi feels extremely relieved knowing that.

On the day of the fight, everyone gathers. Takemichi notices that a lot of new people are there to watch the fight between the two gangs. There are a bunch of new guys who definitely look important and we might get to see them in the future with new episodes of Tokyo Revengers, like the Haitani brothers

So, both the Captains of the two gangs stand in front of each other. Hansen from the Ikebukuro Criminal Black Member stood between them and asked both Kazutora and Draken how they would like to fight. Draken tells Kazutora that they only have one condition, if Valhalla loses, they’re going to get Baji back. Kazutora flares up and is about to attack Draken. When Hansen tried to stop Kazutora, he knocked him out brutally. Kazutora mentioned that they’re not there to play. Their only motive is to completely destroy Toman and kill Mikey. That’s when both the gangs lose it and the fight starts.

And so, we’re left hanging in the middle. We can’t wait for the next episode as the real fight starts then!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 17 Review

Tokyo Revengers Episode 17 opens with Takemichy being in Valhalla’s Den around Kazutora, Hanma, Baji and others. Baji reveals that it was Kazutora who defended Baji and that saved him from going to Juvie. He was in fact waiting for Kazutora to get back from Juvie so that he could get his revenge on Mikey.

Takemichy starts believing that Baji had been an enemy all along and did not leave Toman on a whim. While taking a stroll, he is still thinking about all of this when he finds Chifuyu sitting on a swing, calling Takemichi. Chifuyu reveals that Baji is not an enemy but is pretending to be one. At Least this is something Chifuyu can tell because he has been really close to Baji. It is revealed that Baji is after Kisaki Tetta and his motives. Takemichy gets visibly confused after knowing that.

tokyo revengers

Both Chifuyu and Takemichy visit Mikey and Draken who are visiting Shinichiro’s grave. Mikey reveals that he still hasn’t forgiven Kazutora for what he had done to his brother. He asks Takemichy that he was supposed to bring Baji back but instead he’s back with Chifuyu. Mikey asks Takemichi about what on earth he is thinking. Takemichy gathers up courage and tells Mikey that he wants to be the leader of Toman. Both Mikey and Draken call him an idiot for even thinking about that.

On their way back, Chifuyu tells Takemichy that he will help him become the leader of Toman only if he helps him with the investigation against Tetta Kisaki to which Takemichy agrees. Both of them go see Osanai who reveals to them that Tetta Kisaki is a great manipulator and everything that has happened to him is Tetta’s fault. He even used Kiyomizu to get Draken killed but his plans failed. It is revealed by Osanai that Kisaki is the kind of guy who will never get his hands dirty by killing anyone. Instead, he’ll get them killed using the pawns that he has prepared. Currently, he has prepared Shuji Hanma as his pawn.

Chifuyu tells Takemichi that Tetta Kisaki apparently is the mysterious leader  of Valhalla. And currently, Tetta Kisaki is in Toman. So it is pretty evident that Tetta has some other motives. Takemichy decides to go back in the past and meet Draken.

It is revealed by Draken that Valhalla defeated Toman and both the gangs merged to become Valhalla, under Mikey. It was also revealed that Mikey ended up killing Kazutora on the day of the big fight.

Now things are getting weirdly interesting! Mikey is definitely not the kind of guy to kill his old gang mate no matter what. But we’re guessing that there’s something that must have triggered Mikey to push him to do this. Let’s wait for the next episode to come out to see the Bloody Halloween fight!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 16 Review

Episode 16 of Tokyo Revengers takes us to the past when the Tokyo Manji Gang was newly founded. Back in 2003, the Toman boys all rode their bikes to the beach. We see every boy having a pretty nice bike except Mikey, who still uses a moped. Because of his moped, he is slower than any of the boys during their journey to the beach.

They’re all having the time of their lives while riding their bikes but soon, an older biker gang stops them and makes fun of Mikey’s moped. Apparently, Mikey has some kind of affinity with his moped and he tends to get angry at whoever tries to make fun of his moped. Mikey gave a cold look to the guy who was talking about destroying the bike and told him that he would kill the guy if he even scratched his moped. The biker gang gets intimidated and leaves while saying that if they see these little boys once more, they’re going to crush them.

The boys continue their journey but to their disappointment, Mikey’s bike went all out of gas. They played a game of rock paper scissors and Baji ended up losing, having to go to the nearby gas station with Mikey’s moped. On his way, Baji encountered the biker gang again who tried to break Mikey’s moped with a bat. Now, Baji shielded the moped even with his body and took a hit just because he didn’t want Mikey’s moped to get even a scratch (True brotherhood right there!).

Mikey suddenly appears out of nowhere and kicks his bike himself, surprising everyone. The reason why he kicked the bike was to show Baji that he is more important to him than the bike itself and he hated the fact that Baji took a hit because of his bike. Now, Mikey is all ready to kill the guy and uses his signature kick on him. After that, the two of them proceed to beat the rest of the gang.

tokyo revengers

A few days after this incident, Kazutora and Mikey are seen together, talking about Mikey’s birthday. Kazutora believes that they should give Mikey a CB250T bike as his older one got useless. Baji is all up for the idea until he finds out that they’re going to steal it instead of buying it. He resists at first but when he imagines Mikey riding it, he decides to steal the bike with Kazutora.

It’s night time. Kazutora and Baji break into the bike shop. They’re able to unlock the bike and are ready to take it out. Kazutora goes outside to open the shutters. To Baji’s surprise, the shop’s owner catches him. Baji recognizes the shop’s owner as Shinichiro Sano, the older brother of Mikey. Shinichora Sano recognizes Baji as well. Suddenly, Kazutora starts running towards Shinichiro Sano from behind with a weapon, catches him off guard and kills him.

tokyo revengers

Baji is devastated at what Kazutora had done. He tells Kazutora that he just killed Mikey’s older brother. Kazutora is shocked and starts blaming Mikey as they wanted to get the bike for Mikey. Both of them are arrested. Baji is seen to be remorseful and Kazutora is uttering the words “Must kill Mikey” repeatedly. Mikey comes to the site and asks Baji about what’s going on. Baji has nothing to say to him and he only apologizes to Mikey.

So the whole conflict around Kazutora and Mikey is the death of the older brother of Mikey. We have no idea why Kazutora found it a good idea to blame Mikey for his own wrongdoings. Mikey seems to not have forgiven Kazutora and is all up for fighting him. We’re excited to see how things roll out in the next few episodes when we get to see the bloody fight between Toman and Valhalla!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 15 Review

Tokyo Revengers Episode 15 opens with Takemichi all stressed because now he has to do something that he does not have the guts to do. But as he promised Mikey, he has to bring Baji back to Toman. Also because Mikey threatened to kill him, Takemichi gotta do it.

Takemichi’s pals are all green with envy as he gets to become a part of Toman and laugh at him for not knowing the basics a delinquent should know. The delinquent dictionary from their group explains to Takemichi that Valhalla was created when there was a conflict between the boys born in 1989 and those who were born in 1990 in Moebius. After Osanai lost to Mikey, Moebius disbanded and the boys born in 1990, led by Kisaki Tetta, entered Toman.

The rest of the boys formed Valhalla which is currently under Shuji Hanma. However, the true leader of the Valhalla gang is still a mystery to everyone. Takemichi and his boys are walking about the members of Valhalla when suddenly, Kazutora Hanemiya enters. He takes Takemichi with him to his secret hideout where the rest of the Valhalla members are. He suddenly feels intimidated and notices someone getting beat up

Kazutora tokyo revengers

He finds out that Keisuke Baji is beating Chifuyu Matsuno, Toman’s First Division Vice Captain. The reason why Baji is beating Chifuyu is to prove his loyalty towards them. Shuji Hanma staged everything to test Baji and considered him loyal towards Valhalla. Takemichi is summoned there for being a witness and asks what Baji told Toman before leaving it. Takemichi told whatever Baji said at the spot. That made their belief even stronger and they added Baji to Valhalla.

Kazutora mentions how Baji would be of great help crushing Toman and he will also be successful in killing Mikey. Takemichi is extremely confused with everything and asks Baji why he is betraying Toman when he was one of the founding members. That’s when Baji started telling a story about their past.

We’re very excited to know how things are going to roll in the next episode. What is it that made Kazutora so hateful towards Mikey when he was also one of the founding members? Why is Baji betraying Toman? We’ll get the answers to these questions in the next episode!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 14 Review

There’s too much tension in the 14th episode of Tokyo Revengers that came out this weekend and boy oh boy, we can feel it in our bones. So, our boys go to the designated place where Mikey’s supposed to announce the new Third Division Captain for Toman. Our boy Takemichi starts wondering if he is the one Mikey’s going to choose as the new Captain.

While he’s still wondering, we see Tetta Kisaki walking up to where Mikey is. Takemichi realises that it’s him and cannot believe his eyes.

Tetta Kisaki sits down on the stairs with his back against Mikey. The crowd starts getting angry at him for behaving like that. That’s when Mikey announces that Tetta Kiskai is the new captain. The gang is not happy with the decision as Tetta Kisaki was formerly a member of Moebius

Mikey shuts everyone up and explains why he needs Tetta’s assistance in order to defeat Valhalla, who are a bunch of brutes and are more in number.

tetta kisaki tokyo revengers

We see Takemichi going out of control and punching Kisaki in his face. While he’s been scolded for his reckless behaviour, Keisuke Baji walks up and starts beating Takemichi. He then tells Mikey that he’s leaving Toman to join Valhalla. It seemed like Keisuke Baji wanted a reason to leave Toman. It’s evident that he does not like the presence of Tetta Kisaki in the team. He then leaves.

Tetta Kisaki now kicks Takemichi in the face and knocks him out. Everyone leaves. When Takemichi wakes up, he finds Mikey beside him. Mikey tells Takemichi that it’s important for him to join forces with Tetta because without him, they won’t be able to beat Valhalla.

Takemichi tells Mikey to promise him that if he brings Baji back from Valhalla, he must kick Tetta Kisaki out of the gang. Mikey agrees and puts Takemichi under the care of Takashi Mitsuya who was eavesdropping on them. Both Mikey and Takashi leave and Takemichi decides to wash the blood off his face.

On his way back, he finds a charm on the ground, opens it up and finds a photo inside it. The founding members of Toman Gang were there in the photo. Takemichi was able to recognize all of them except one person who looked close to Keisuke Baji.

Now, Takemichi must go and bring Keisuke Baji back. It’s apparently his sole goal now if he wants to save Hinata and everyone around him.

Tokyo Revengers Episode 13 Review

The sadness and sorrow continues in Episode 14 of the Tokyo Revengers. We’re still trying to process how Hinata died after all the things Takemichi had to go through to save her. Takemichi is completely devastated. He keeps reminiscing about how he bumped into Hinata in her building, how he watched her car getting crushed in front of him, and how he told her that he loved him. It’s truly heartbreaking and traumatizing for him to actually witness his loved one dying before his eyes.

Naoto is equally devastated. He can’t understand how this happened when Takemichi succeeded in his mission. Hinata’s mother hands Takemichi the locket that he gave her and told him that she always kept it close to her heart. Takemichi gets emotional again. After that, Naoto meets Takemichi and tells him that Atsushi Sendo had a family and was missing at the time he killed Hinata. It is revealed that Tetta Kisaki was blackmailing Atsushi by taking his family hostage. This boils Takemichi’s blood and he decides that he’ll go back in time and become Toman’s leader. That is the only way for him to get everything right. Naoto laughs at Takemichi’s boldness and tells him at least his remark had made him feel a bit better.

Draken Tokyo Revengers

Later, Both Takemichi and Naoto visit Draken who is currently on a death row. Takemichi asks Draken where the hell things went wrong. Apparently, Draken had murdered someone and was not even regretting what he did. He blamed himself for not stopping Tetta Kisaki and was very angry while talking about him. He revealed that Tetta Kisaki is the reason why Toman is a mess (We totally saw that coming!). Draken told Takemichi that he missed the old days and how they used to live stress-free at that time. He would be more than happy if he gets the chance to live like that again.

Draken also reveals that Tetta Kisaki turned against Mikey despite being greatly impressed by him. Now, he will take away everything Mikey holds dear, one by one. Draken leaves after that. Takemichi is still adamant on becoming the leader of Toman and Naoto decides to put his trust in Takemichi. Takemichi shakes Naoto’s hand and goes back to the past.

Takemichi wakes up to Mikey and Draken in a bathhouse and is visibly confused. Both Mikey and Draken are playfully teasing each other and Takemichi is just staring at them. This scene was a great mood-shifter for us. With all the awful things happening, we really needed something lighthearted like that. At the end of the episode, Mikey tells Takemichi to tag along with them as he’s going to choose the Third Division Captain of Toman. Now things are getting interesting. Takemichi definitely sees an opening here and so do we. But let’s just see how things turn out in the next episode!

Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 12 Review

We are back to review Episode 12 of Tokyo Revengers that is full of emotions and rage (We’ll talk about that later). We get to see some adorable moments between Takemichi and Hina that we thought we’d never get to see again because how Takemichi got insecure upon the thought of meeting Hina. He’s literally at her doorstep with Naoto when it comes to him that he’s better off without seeing Hina as they broke up 12 years ago.

Takemichi is all up in his thoughts while leaving the building where Hina lives when he accidentally bumps into none other than ADULT HINA. Now, he’s all teary when he gets to see Hina’s adorable face and ends up being in her house with Naoto. Naoto, as always, is irritated by the two adults behaving like awkward middle schoolers. Our Takemichi is a very emotional character. He has shown emotions at every suitable point like a normal person and can’t really hide what he’s feeling. So, naturally, his nervousness is clear in front of Hina and Hina, on the other hand, is no different from Takemichi.

Screenshot 3

Takemichi was surprised to notice Hina wearing the necklace he gave her 12 years ago (It’s okay Take-boy, we were equally surprised). Although, Takemichi was still confused about the necklace if it was the same that Takemichi gave her or if it’s something similar like that. Naoto decides to leave the two alone but Takemichi is not ready for that. Now, what we find funny is that Takemichi is all brave and gutsy in front of a thug like Kiyomasa but is as scared as a mouse in front of Hina!

Naoto decided that going out on a drive with the two might help them to loosen up a bit but boy he was wrong. The two of them are still too awkward. Naoto gets a call from work and has to leave immediately, leaving the two behind. Hinata drives them to some place and parks the car. The two get out and stroll for a bit when Hina mentions that it’s the place where she once came with her loved one. Now, Takemichi decides to assume that Hina must be talking about her boyfriend because of course, there’s no way she’s still hung up on him (We doubt that here slightly). He mentions how this place must be so special for her. However, Hina starts bawling her eyes out, confronting Takemichi about why he broke up with her here. Okay, that’s shocking!

Shuji Hanma Tokyo Revengers

All along, Takemichi thought that Hina was the one who broke up with him but in reality, it was Takemichi who broke up with Hina for some reason!

Takemichi feels overwhelmed and excuses Hina that he needs to go to the bathroom and leaves her there. Takemichi still needs to process everything. On his way back, he bumps into a strange looking (AND HOT) dude who looks disappointed with Takemichi not being present in the car. Takemichi notices the tattoo on his hand and immediately comes to the conclusion that it was Shuji Hanma, the right hand man of Tetta Kisaki!

Akkun Tokyo Revengers

Now, we all know where all of this is going. Takemichi rushes to the place where Naoto’s car is parked AND with Hina inside. He witnesses a truck banging into the car in front of his eyes. Okay fellas, we’re here again. Just when Takemichi thought things were back to normal, this happened. We were not expecting this to happen in the slightest.

Takemichi rushes to Hina but notices Akkun in the truck that caused this mess (What is happening here!). Just like Takemichi, we loved seeing Akkun smile again, pursuing his dream job. However, he reveals that he’s scared of Tetta Kiskai and that Tetta is the reason why he had to do it.

Leaving Akkun behind, Takemichi tries to save Hinata but her legs are completely crushed and she’s unable to move. She thanks Takemichi for everything and tells him to leave her alone in the car to die as it was about to explode. Takemichi refuses and tries to take her out and just then, Hina pushes him away.

Screenshot 7

The car and the truck both explode and Takemichi screams out of agony and pain. All his efforts went in vain. We see him leaving the place in tears full of rage. We’ve never seen Takemichi being this serious. Takemichi decides that he’ll go back in time and become the leader of Toman. Of course, the chances of him becoming the leader of Toman are very small. But we never know!

This episode totally caught us off guard and we can’t wait to see what happens next and how Takemichi deals with someone as cunning and undefeatable as Tetta Kiskai. Luckily, Tokyo Revengers won’t be ending after 12 episodes. The second cour starts right off from July so YAY!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 11 Review

Here we are with another review of Episode 11 of the Tokyo Revengers. This episode was surprisingly very eventful. A lot happened and our boys were not just stuck in one place.

So, after surviving for a RIDICULOUSLY long span of time, Draken finally collapses and is rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. He’s at the brink of death and we’re finally convinced that it’s over for him. However, he’s not ready to die yet. Though his vitals are dropping constantly, his will to live is not. I definitely caught us off guard.

Our boy needs surgery immediately. We still don’t know if he’s going to survive or not because he was critically injured. After his surgery, it is revealed that he’s alive and well. WOOHOO!

Mikey is the only one who is stable throughout his surgery. However, Takemichi notices him breaking down alone later. He was pretending to be all strong because he didn’t want his friends to worry about Draken. Such a great leader!

A week after the fight with Moebius, Takemichi is a sight to behold. He’s all dressed up and swelling with pride because he was the one who apparently put an end to the fight. He thinks he looks hot BUT he looks ridiculous. But we gotta give it to him for saving Draken’s life (claps, claps).

Takemichi meets Draken at the hospital and is happy to see him well. Draken gives Takemichi Mikey’s old uniform of Toman which signifies that Takemichi is now a very important part of Toman. It’s only natural because Takemichi has proven himself again and again by taking great interest in the matters of Toman and going out of his way to save Draken’s life, even if it was going to cost him his life. However, for Takemichi, it is a great burden to bear.

Takemichi meets Mikey at the rooftop of the hospital who is all busy in his own thoughts. Mikey is unable to understand as to why the inner conflicts amongst Toman are happening. Mikey is all suspicious of Takemichi as he was aware of everything and wanted to stop them before. We thought he’s going to get exposed but Mikey suddenly made a comment on his outfit and thanked him for saving Draken. (Phew, CLOSE CALL)

We absolutely adore the little moments between Takemichi and Hinata and we get to witness an adorable moment in this episode. The reason why Takemichi came to Hinata’s house was to shake hands with Naoto and return back to the future to see if things have changed or not. He meets Hinata and gives her a four-leaf clover necklace that she immediately wears. Their cute little moment is interrupted by Naoto which embarrasses Hinata and we love her cute expressions.

Takemichi shakes hands with Naoto and wakes up in front of her manager at the store who, as always, is scolding Takemichi for not paying attention while working. Our boy panics as he was expecting to not be working at the store in the future (We also kinda panic). He searches for Naoto’s phone number but it’s not there in his phone. He notices an appointment made with Akkun at the salon and goes there to see him. It was an emotional moment for him as Akkun was alive and well, pursuing his dream of becoming a hairdresser. Now, at that point we’re convinced that the events have been changed. Tetta is not the number 2 in Toman, Draken is alive and well, Akkun is alive and well and most importantly, Hina doesn’t have to die. Takemichi gets a call from an unknown number and it’s NAOTO. He believes that the events have changed and tells Takemichi to let’s go meet his sister.

Things are finally looking good BUT we must not let our guards down because Tokyo Revengers have a habit of playing with our hearts. Let’s see how things roll in the next episode!

Takemichi Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 10 Review

Tokyo Revengers has succeeded yet again to pull at our heartstrings with Episode 10. We’re reviewing the latest episode so GRAB YOUR WEEB CUISINES AND READ ON!

We gotta say, Takemichi steals all the spotlight in this episode. HE SHINES. The episode follows the brawl from the last episode. Draken is lying on the ground in the pool of his own blood. Takemichi panics and goes towards Draken, crying his eyes out. Mikey is occupied by Hanma but realizes the gravity of the situation

Our poor Takemichi is ready to give up, thinking Draken has died and there’s no way he can go back and make things right. However, Mikey believes that Draken hasn’t died, as he tells Takemichi to take care of Draken. This shows how confident Mikey is about Draken’s strength and endurance. Takemichi comes to his senses and carries Draken on his back.

Now, Draken is a pretty heavy dude. With someone as fragile as Takemichi, things are not looking good. However, he does not give up and keeps on moving (At the pace of a turtle though). Just kidding. WE ADMIRE HIM A LOT.

Takemichi had succeeded in carrying Draken to a safer place where there is nobody around. Hinata and Emma approach Takemichi to tell him that they’ve called an ambulance. Takemichi notices Kiyomasa and his gang approaching them from a distance and realizes that it’s over for them. Draken awakes and tells Takemichi to take the girls and run away. But that’s when Takemichi’s resolve SHINES. He’s not ready to leave Draken behind and stays with him until the gang reaches them.

It’s time to get to the meat and bones of this. It’s Takemichi Vs Kiyomasa ROUND 2. We did not really reach a conclusion in their first fight. Now is the time for Takemichi to shine. He’s not afraid to stand up against the odds anymore. Although, all odds are against Takemichi and it’s clear that he’d lose, but he’s still not ready to give up.

Kiyomasa did him dirty when Takemichi was about to punch him, stabbing Takemichi’s hand. Takemichi groans in agony and kneels down on the ground. He takes the knife and is ready to fight again (Wow that’s metal). Kiyomasa beats him up good but Takemichi is not ready to give up just yet. Somehow Takemichi manages to get him in a headlock despite taking a bunch of blows from him. What’s surprising is that Takemichi ends up knocking Kiyomasa out by choking him. The satisfaction on his face was something else!

He does realize that he’s still going to lose Draken as Kiymasa’s gang is still there, ready to beat him up, but he’s happy that he was able to knock Kiyomasa out.

Now, as soon as the gang boys start approaching Takemichi and are about to attack them, Takemichi’s friends arrive! However, they end up getting their kicks butt. Takemichis’s friends proved to be a great support for him and are partly responsible for saving Draken’s life as the ambulance arrives (THANK GOD), making Kiyomasa’s gang run away. Draken had been bleeding all this time and we really felt bad for him. But, he survived for an unrealistically amount of time which is a little ridiculous.

Episode 10 showed us how Takemichi’s character developed from a cry-baby to a strong willed guy who is not afraid of anything. Takemichi was able to prove that he is not going to run away and save all the relationships he had forged with other people he cares about.

Overall, it was a great episode that showed us Takemichi’s unwavering resolve. We got some great character development from Takemichi as well. Again, this episode is keeping us at the edge of our seats and we cannot wait for more!

Takemichi

Tokyo Revengers Episode 9 Review

Episode 9 takes us on an INTENSE ROLLER COASTER of emotions. It is just INSANE. We’re introduced to some of the HOTTEST new characters from Toman that we had no idea about before. They’re definitely going to create a whole army of fangirls. Yes, they’re THAT HOT.

Things were not looking good when the whole Moebius ganged up on our boys. Draken hit his limit when Takemichi and Mitsuya reached the spot. We gotta say, Draken is a BEAST. He was able to take out a bunch of Toman guys with his bare fists. Now, Toman dudes did feel themselves in a bit of a pickle when they saw Mitsuya. After all, he’s the Second Division Captain of the Tokyo Manji Gang!

But then suddenly, Shuji Hanma appears. This guy is definitely bad news. He was able to scare the sh*t out of Moebius dudes by threatening them that he’s going to hurt every guy who escapes the scene without killing our Toman boys. Now, Moebius boys are pumped up!

We gotta say, Hanma is a pretty strong dude. He was able to stop Manjiro’s signature high kick with his arm. Can you believe that?! That’s why he must not be underestimated.

Now, the ball’s in our Toman boys’ court. With Draken at his limit, it was hard for Manjiro and Mitsuya to take out all the Moebius boys. Takemichi should be out of the question here. He’s just there as a spectator AND Draken’s alleged bodyguard

Just when things are not looking good, our Toman gang appears on bikes. That scene was EXTREMELY COOL. The way they rode their bikes towards the mass was oh so badass! We’re introduced to

  1. Yashuiro Muto (5th Division Captain)
  2. Keisuke Baji (1st Division Captain)
  3. Chifuyu Matsuno (1st Division Vice Captain)
  4. Nahoya Kawata (4th Division Captain)
  5. Souta Kawata (4th Division Vice Captain)
  6. Hakkai Shiba (2nd Division Vice Captain)

Okay, so ALL of these dudes are SUPER TOUGH. We see them completely obliterating Moebius guys WITHOUT taking a single hit. We totally simp for Keisuke Baji and his long hair (Personally). Yashiro Muto does not hesitate to throw his opponents brutally. Souta Kawata literally SMILES while beating his opponents’ ass. We’re yet to see others in action as well. Toman has some pretty scary dudes!

Our poor Takemichi keeps looking for Draken as only he’s aware of Draken’s possible death. He’s also looking for Kiyomasa, the main culprit. He senses Kiyomasa passing him and turns around to look at him. What he feared came true. Kiyomasa’s knife had blood on it. And yes, you’re right, it’s the blood of DRAKEN. Kiyomasa has done it. Takemichi finds his body lying on the ground. He struggled for nothing. Things did change but Draken’s death was inevitable!

We can’t wait for the new episode to come out. Will Takemichi figure out some other way to save Draken or give up on the thought? Let’s wait till the next episode!

Toman, Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 8 Review

Episode 8 opens with Takemichi being furious over Manjiro and Draken and then breaking down, telling them how everyone suffers because of their fight and how all of the others look up to them. His emotional breakdown soon takes a hilarious turn when Draken mentions how Takemichi has got a turd in his head!

We see some really wholesome moments between Takemichi and his friends when they’re just chilling and playing some football. Takemichi realizes how he has changed the past and now Draken won’t die as the conflict between Manjiro and Draken has been resolved. But boy is he wrong. We’ll talk about it in a bit!

Apparently Emma and Hinata are now friends and are rooting for each other when it comes to their relationship. Both go on a date with their respective boyfriends at a festival and we see some really sweet moments between Takemichin and Hinata but they’re soon interrupted with Kazushi calling Takemichi and telling him that he should keep an eye out for Draken.

Takemichi starts looking for Draken only to find one of the Toman members of Kiyomasa’s gang. They’re apparently planning to kill Draken. Upon finding Takemichi, they beat him brutally and that’s when Takemichi realizes that he’s still the same old loser.

He doesn’t have any right to be cocky just because he hangs out with cooler guys now. They tie him up and leave him there. Hinata finds him but he’s embarrassed by himself in that situation. Our sweet Hinata tells him that he’s really special to her and kisses him. It was her first kiss with Takemichi and vice versa. After a few minutes of crying, Takemichi is freed by Hinata and he starts searching for Draken again.

He finds Draken along with Peh-yan who has some beef with him and wants to kill him. Now, all of this makes sense. The murderer was not Osanai, to begin with. It was someone who encouraged Peh-yin to kill Draken as he was not happy with his decision of letting Pah-chin stay in jail when they could let him out by offering some money. Some real badass action is awaiting us in the next episode!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 7 Review

Things start to heat up when Osanai appears without any warning with his gang of delinquents. There are only 5 members of Toman present at the site and things do not seem to be in their favour. However, with our Mikey boy, there’s nothing to worry about. Pah-chin takes the lead first but gets beaten up brutally to the point of just fainting. We see his resolve when he’s fighting even when he’s unconscious. That’s the true power of friendship!

Manjiro then takes over and with his signature kick, knocks out Osanai!

Manjiro’s one badass kick was enough to scare the rest of the crowd. Osanai managed to get a broken bottle and wanted to stop Manjiro with it BUT Draken easily stopped him. That’s when Pah-chin stabbed him and oh boy… Here starts the real trouble! They all run away when they hear police sirens. Pah-chin decides to turn himself in and we love his resolve. That’s when we know about the differences between Draken and Mikey as the former appreciates Pah-chin’s decision and the latter is against it.

Takemichi ends up being unconscious and wakes up in the hospital with Emma crying over his lap. This scene is very comical as Hinata mistakes it for something else!

There’s another comical scene when Takemichi’s friends along with Manjiro and Draken visit him. Draken and Manjir are still not on good terms and start arguing there. In the process, they end up breaking Takemichi’s most valuable things and he becomes furious. We have always seen Takemichi be a wussy little kid but his aura was completely something else at that point!

Tokyo Revengers Episode 6 Review

Episode 6 revolves around the past of Draken and Manjiro and the details about how they met. Draken was an illegitimate child of someone as his mother worked as a prostitute in the red district. Okay WOW we did not expect that. Draken was still tall for his age as a kid and still looked so intimidating. He got beaten by one delinquent gang once and was ordered to bring a kid that was giving them trouble. That kid was our boy Manjiro!

Draken somehow takes Manjiro to the gang of kids and Manjiro absolutely obliterates their egos by beating up their boss. That’s how the friendship between Manjiro and Draken started. Little Manjiro is too adorable BUT a little feisty as well. We totally love that!

We also get to know about some hidden details regarding how Draken is going to die. Takemichi and Naoto tracked down Osanai in the present who worked as a construction worker and was not in a good place. Osanai is quite bitter about his past and reveals he was not the one who killed Draken. It was someone who planned everything that led to Toman’s internal conflict. Now, we might have a clue about the guy Osanai is talking about. Yes, you might be right. Tetta Kisaki!

By the end of the episode, we see Takemichi begging Manjiro to drop the idea of going up against Moebius to the point of crying. Pah-chin is not happy with this. Well, he naturally shouldn’t be. Draken wants to take Takemichi’s advice but Manjiro starts questioning his loyalty (Oops). That’s when Osanai barges in with his nasty little gang and straight-up challenges Manjiro right then and there.

Tokyo Revengers Episode 5 Review

Episode 5 introduces us to Emma Sano, the girlfriend of Draken who wants to get back at him by spending some intimate time with none other than Takemichi. It’s pretty wild to think how Emma decided to take such a bold step just to make Draken jealous. But fortunately, nothing happened between them and Takemichi fled from that place.

The present Takemichi and Naoto discuss how Draken is going to die by getting stabbed on August 3, 2005, and the main cause of his death is going to be inner strife between Toman. It is revealed that Manjiro and Draken are going to split up into two factions because of some argument. Yes, we also find it very hard to believe, given the unbreakable bond we witness between the two. Takemichi decides that his first and foremost priority is to save Draken and goes back to the past.

There is a meeting between the members of the Toman gang and some gruesome details about Pah-chin’s friend are revealed. He was beaten up brutally by Nobutaka Osanai, Moebius’ leader, who then proceeded to rape his girlfriend in front of him. It does not end there. He also got his parents hanged and took all of his money. This reveals the dark side of the delinquents and shows how even middle schoolers can be scary.

Mikey decides to crush Moebius on August 3 and Takemichi remembers how Draken is going to die that very day. He decides to be Draken’s bodyguard but he refuses. With Manjiro declaring war on Moebius, we find it natural for him to do so. Nothing else could be expected from him because of his compassion towards his mates. He sees nothing but blood.

Now, the main reason why we think Manjiro becomes corrupted and ends up becoming a ruthless delinquent is the absence of Draken. Draken acts as Mikey’s heart which he lacks. We see Draken making Manjiro bow in front of the parents of the raped girl and take responsibility as she went through something really horrific because of them. Manjiro was not going to bow otherwise. So, Draken must be saved!

There’s another hilarious detail about Manjiro that is revealed in this episode when Takemichy decides to follow him and Draken to a restaurant. Mikey literally starts acting like an angry child when he does not get a flag with his kid’s meal. It makes us wonder how someone like him is going to be involved in killing the innocent.

Emma Sano and Takemichi, Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 4 Review

We FINALLY get to see some sweet moments between Takemichi and Hinata when she invites him over to her house to study. Her mom embarrasses her and Takemichi gets embarrassed as well. We loved how fireworks started outside and Hinata along with Takemichi goes out to see them. Takemichi wanted time to stop right there and didn’t want to go back to the future. He suddenly holds Hinata’s hand but soon realizes that it’s not Hinata’s hand he’s holding. It was Naoto’s hand that acted as a trigger to take Takemichi back to the future. Takemichi found his sorry self in the future soon after holding hands with Naoto. That was very comical.

One thing that strikes us as odd is that when Takemichi comes back from the past into the future, Naoto’s memories are not affected at all. Even when the events from the past have changed, he’s fully aware of his motive. It might have to do something with Naoto being the trigger. We’re not sure yet. Let’s see how it rolls out.

Takemichi and Naoto decide to look for Atsushi, Takemichi’s close friend from middle school, who apparently had become the upper echelon member of Toman. It is revealed that he owns a huge hostess bar. They both leave to meet him. Atsushi has changed A LOT in the future. He talks privately with Takemichi and reveals that HE was the one who pushed him in front of the train and Naoto was the one who saved him.

It is quite shocking for us to learn that because Atsushi was really close to Takemichi and could not possibly want him to die. Atsushi tells Takemichi that Tetta Kisaki is the hotshot of Toman now and the main reason why all the disputes happened in the first place. He pleaded with Takemichi to set everything straight by going into the past. He then jumps from the building and dies, leaving Takemichi behind. Teta Kisaki had been listening to their conversation while being in the background. This guy is definitely bad news. He hasn’t been doing anything shade as of yet and THAT is what worries us the most. We gotta see how things go in the next episode.

Atsushi. Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 3 Review

We’re FINALLY introduced to our MAJOR crushes in this anime, Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji. First off, we see Takemichi beaten to a pulp by Kiyomasa when he challenged him. It weirded Kiyomasa out that how Takemichi was not backing out when he’s being beaten so brutally (It’s the power of friendship and love)

When Kiyomasa intended to beat the sh*t out of Takemichi with a bat, that’s when Draken interfered and told him to stop. Draken is too tall for his age and the tattoos on the side of his head make him look very intimidating (And hot). He’s accompanied by Manjiro Sano, our cool and aloof boy. We see the crowd bowing down to him as soon as he disappeared. That’s when we knew about Manjiro’s supremacy. Manjiro beats Kiyomasa a little and Draken tells him to not ruin the reputation of the Tokyo Manji Gang.

We see Manjiro taking an interest in Takemichi and telling him that he’s got a new friend. Takemichi is surprised and so are we!

ep 3

Tokyo Revengers Episode 2 Review

In the second episode, we get to know about the “trigger” that lets Takemichi travel to the past. Naoto believes that it’s the “handshake” between him and Takemichi that acts as the “trigger” (Hmm… Pretty interesting way to time-travel). He reveals that if Takemichi does not let Manjiro Sano and Tetta Kisaki interact in the past, the whole disaster thing would not happen in the future. Takemichi is all determined to do so but to his surprise, when he wakes up in the future, he finds himself in a brawl between one of the Kiyomasa’s gang members and himself.

Takemichi has had bad luck when it comes to time-travelling. He always gets beaten up brutally whenever he travels back to the past. He tells Kiyomasa that he would like to meet Manjiro Sano but gets his butt kicked instead by him.

We see some cute interaction between Takemichi and Hinata after he’s all beaten up. Our kind Hina tells Takemichi that if she were a guy, she’d totally protect him. Takemichi states something similar like that and ends up calling her “Hina” instead of Hinata to which she blushed hard (WE SHIP).

We gotta say Takemichi has some guts when we see him straight up interrupting the brawl between his friend and a guy from another school IN Kiyomasa’s presence. He challenges Kiyomasa to fight him fearlessly but we all know from inside he must be dying.

We see a lot of character development with Takemichi. Maybe it’s the beating, maybe it’s his love for Hina that makes him bold. Episode 2 revealed a lot of information to us that is kinda hard to digest.

Hinata, Tokyo revengers

Tokyo Revengers Episode 1 Review

Episode 1 opens with Takemichi being salty about how crap his life is as a corporate slave. It was trash enough already when he suddenly got to know about the death of his former and only girlfriend to date. She got involved in a fight between two gangs and ended up biting the dust. Takemichi started thinking about the old days and how he ended up in this mess when he suddenly got pushed in front of a train and found himself in the past when he used to be a middle-schooler.

We see Takemichi figuring out how he’ll be able to save Hina if he gets himself involved between the gangs that are going to be the reason behind her death. Other than that, we are also introduced to some of Takemichi’s mates that are also going to play their part in how future events turn out.

Takemichi goes through a lot of emotions in the first episode and he feels more like a mixed bag of emotions to us. 10 minutes into the anime and we get to see some action going on between middle schoolers and the harsh circumstances Takemichi and his friends have to face, living the delinquent life

There’s also an interaction between Hina and Takemichi. From how it looks, Hina seems to be a very warm-hearted and strong person despite her girly appearance. It feels like she’s going to be extremely loyal and caring towards Takemichi (A perfect waifu material)

Overall, the first episode was pretty interesting. It got us hooked on the anime and we can foresee how amazing the rest of the plot is going to turn out.

Tokyo Revengers, Takemichi's friends

How Many Episodes Is Tokyo Revengers' First Season going to have?

Tokyo Revengers is definitely the most loved anime for the spring/summer season. The anime made its debut on April 10, 2021 on Crunchyroll. Before getting an anime adaptation, the manga was published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The work of Ken Wakui is absolutely beautiful as It has gained a lot of praise from the fans, and has the potential of being one of the greatest shounen anime of all time!

The anime is directed by Koichi Hatsumi and is animated by Liden Films that animated Berserk, Cells at work, and a particularly new anime, Farewell, My Dear Crammer. There’s also a live-action movie coming out in July and by just watching its trailer, we can say it’s going to be a total banger!

Tokyo Revengers was rumoured to have 24 episodes before that is the standard number of episodes for almost every anime out there. However, now we’ve been told that it’s going to be split-cour. The first season of Tokyo Revengers is going to have 12 episodes only. With 9 episodes out already, we’re only left with 3 episodes more. We’re hoping to soon get to watch the second cour of Tokyo Revengers soon!

Tokyo Revengers

Conclusion

It’s pretty evident from the first episode that Tokyo Revengers is going to be the big thing of this season. It’s second only to My Hero Academia for the spring/summer season, at least for us. Everything from the animation to the character portrayal is pretty decent. We love the entirely different time-travelling system that this anime features. It’s not what we see in most of the generic time-travelling anime. Overall, the creators did a great job and the anime deserves all the grace it’s getting!
