With all the new anime coming out every season, some are bound to be better than others and with more potential. Without a shadow of a doubt, Eight-six is one of those anime that outshine the other this season.
It has an interesting futuristic setup with a lot of mecha fighting action! It has featured brilliant political tension within the nations at war. And let’s not forget the multiple mystery elements this anime has, the answer to which, could blow your brains soon. The characters also seem to be likable and interesting up until now. But how will these anime pan out to be, by the end?

12. Kaie Taniya

Aries tend to be passionate and mature leaders, and that certainly is the case for Kaie. Despite being forced to fight in the war by the republic of San Magnolia, she never hated the nation’s people.
She understood very well that a few higher-ups in the world of politics are responsible for these evil deeds. Her maturity and rationality could be attested to her age, as she is one of the oldest members of the spearhead squadron.
Overall, she’s kind, generous, and intelligent. All the qualities that any viewer would like.
Taurus (April 21 ~ May 20)
11. Shinei Nouzen
Birthday: May 19th (Official birthday)
Sign:Taurus
The next character on the list is the man himself, Shinei Nouzen. Although a Taurus tends to prefer a life free of stress and adversity, Shinei hasn’t been blessed with a lucky life.
After being forced to fight on the battlefield, Shinei has witnessed the death of Hundreds of comrades as he’d be left alive because of his skills. Ironically enough, this made his life no better than hell.
Despite having to go through this torture, again and again, Shinei has found a way to not lose his sense of empathy. He is usually isolated from his comrades and keeps himself indulged in a book, but he cares about each and every one of them.
Gemini (May 21 ~ June 20)
10. Henrietta von Penrose
Birthday: 29th of May (Fictional)
Sign: Gemini
Gemini’s tend to be an intellectually curious sign, and Henrietta fits the bill perfectly. She’s shown to be a scientist who loves her work A LOT. As a workaholic, she’d work long hours till she fell asleep, giving her great success in the world of science.
Despite being quite intelligent and kind-hearted, she doesn’t have a strong sense of justice. As a citizen of the Republic of San Magnolia, she turns a blind eye towards most of the cruel acts the nation is responsible for. I guess, in a way, you could say that she doesn’t concern herself with these matters as it’s not a part of her job.
Cancer (June 21 ~ July 22)
9. Vladilena Milizé (Lena)
Birthday: July 12th (Official birthday)
Sign: Cancer
A Cancer tends to be highly intuitive people, and it’s safe to say that it’s true for Lena. She became a major at a very young age and was allowed to command one of the strongest squadrons on the battlefield.
She is an empathic girl who would do anything for her comrades and is against the unequal system her actions have created. She can’t do much as of now. However, she’ll likely try to avert the system in the future.
Leo (July 23 ~ August 22)
8. Jérôme Karlstahl
Birthday: August 11th (Fictional)
Sign: Leo
The strongest asset of a Leo is his bravery and it seems to be the case for Jerome as well. He seems to be painfully aware of how dirty the nation is yet to realize that all the sins are necessary. At the same time, however, he’s shown to have a soft spot for Lena.
In a way, you could say, the two words that best describe him are “realistic” and “empathic”. The combination of these two traits makes him an interesting character to watch. He also has a very interesting quote to his name.

Virgo (August 23 ~ September 22)
7. Raiden Shuga
Birthday: August 25th (Official Birthday)
Sign: Virgo
Virgos tend to be quite intelligent, and the kind of intelligence Raiden possesses is “emotional intelligence”. You see, even though he might not be the leader of the squadron, he’s the one who provides his friends with the most amount of emotional support.
However, this support seems to be limited for his friends only as he does not fear confrontations and is very easy to piss off. Overall the character is a unique blend of a confronting warrior and a caring mother. Rare combination but an interesting one

6. Anju Emma

Libra’s are known to be charming and aesthetically perfect, whereas it’s true that Anju comes off as a happy and beautiful girl who cares deeply about her comrades, in reality, she has a tragic past and multiple scars on her body.
She ensures that other members of the spearhead squadron don’t find out about her past. She’s also shown to be very generous and kind but can be very ferocious when faced with an adversary. I’d say she’s one of the more interesting female characters of the show.
Scorpio (October 23 ~ November 22)
5. Haruto Keats
Birthday: 2nd November (fictional)
Sign: Scorpio
If you’re ever in a state of war don’t forget to have a friend like Haruto! Not only is he shown to be a reliable soldier of the spearhead squadron, he’s also one of the most cheerful dudes in the gang
Having someone like him is the reason the squadron manages to keep its morale high in the darkest of times. It shouldn’t come off as a surprise that he’s also a very kind person. Sadly enough, however, he’s also one of those characters that hide a deep sorrow behind his smile.
Sagittarius (November 23 ~ December 21)
4. Kurena Kukumila
Birthday: 29th November (Fictional)
Sign: Sagittarius
Kurena harbors a tragic tale, as she got to witness the soldiers of San magnolia kill her parents in cold blood. Later on, she was forced to fight the war for the same nation being an immigrant.
These two reasons are more than enough for her to resent the republic of san magnolia. However, she isn’t a bad person, as she treats all of her allies with great affection and has fallen in love with Shin.
Capricorn (December 22 ~ January 19)
3. Daiya Irma
Birthday: December 22nd (Fictional)
Sign: Capricorn
He’s one of those characters who’s really innocent. He often finds himself in an awkward situation and can’t really come up with any witty way that would help him find a way out.
He has all the traits of a wholesome character as he’s shown to be kind, compassionate, and funny. It’s tragic seeing a character like that caught up in a war
Aquarius (January 20 ~ February 19)
2. Václav Milizé
Birthday: 22nd January (Fictional)
Sign: Aquarius
He’s the father of Lena and his strongest suit would be his desire for justice. Despite being in the army of the republic of san Magnolia, he was against the ways of his nation and did his best to bring about change.
His efforts end up drowning down in vain as he ends up dead. His will is carried out by Lena, who also has a strong sense of justice. A lot of mystery surrounds his death which should be revealed later on as the anime progresses.
Pisces (February 20 ~ March 20)
1. Shourei Nouzen
Birthday: February 28th (Fictional)
Sign: Pisces
The last person on the list is the Elder brother of Shinei Nouzen. Being his blood relative, he has a lot of things in common with him. The most obvious one being how cunning he is in battle. Regardless of how grim things look, Shourei keeps his composure and tries to figure a way out.
Eventually, he ends up being killed and isn’t explored much in the anime yet. However, his character will likely be discussed in the coming episodes, as it’s clear from our current info that he was no ordinary individual.
Conclusion
This is one of the most unique anime I’ve come across in recent times. It has the unique potential to be both politically heavy and filled with great mecha action at the same time. Dare I say, this anime might very well be the next code geass.
