Chronological Watch Order

1. Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (2012) 
2. Horimiya (2021) 

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun 

I know most of us watched Horimiya in the wrong order and had no idea that there were six OVAs. That’s right, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun was originally  a series of OVA episodes that are 23 minutes long.  These episodes were released way before the actual Horimiya anime. Let’s talk about what happens in these episodes! The OVA starts off with Kyoko Hori who’s our main character. She’s a popular girl, and her life might seem like a dream to you. 

But that’s one side of the story. In reality, she’s an average teenage girl who has a lot of responsibilities at home. Since her parents are mostly away on business trips, she has to take care of her baby brother, Sota. 

How did Miyamura and Hori meet? Well, one day, Hori was bringing her little brother back from school as he had a nosebleed. She ran into a guy who has tattoos and piercings. Hori easily found out this side of Miyamura and he found out the motherly side of Hori. 

So, both of them decided to keep it a secret from each other. Miyamura befriends his little brother who tends to show his interest in him. (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun: Episode 1) 

Moving on, Miyamura befriends Hori’s friend named Toru Ishikawa who seems to have feelings for Hori. During this time, Miyamura puts a boundary between him and Hori. She got upset with him and confronted about it as well. When Toru Ishikawa confesses his feelings for Hori, to which results a rejection. On the other hand, Miyamura opens up about his dark past for a class project. It was that moment when all of them got one step closer to being best friends. 

The Student Council is common at every school. This council asks for Hori’s help to throw a welcoming party for the new students. (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun: Episode 2) Hori asks Miyamura to help her buy eggs during a HOT sale.

On his way, he ends up blowing his secret of having tattoos and piercings in front of Toru. At night, Miyamura comforted Hori for being uncertain about her future since he found a crumpled college sheet at her place. 

The next day, Hori was accused of losing the budget sheet, but it turned out that Remi had thrown it away. That’s when Miyamura headbutts Sengoku. This was all done just to prove Hori’s innocence. (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun: Episode 2)

Horimiya 

While the manga itself was quite popular, Horimiya was animated by studio Hoods, Marone, Gonzo, and Kai respectively. The animation of Horimiya is a chef’s kiss. It’s so nice and smooth. So, along with the heartwarming story, we get smooth animation. It’s a win-win situation. Thus, if you’re looking for a romantic anime, you’ve just found your pick! Let’s talk about what happens in Horimiya (2021). 

Hori and Miyamura end up finding each other’s’ secrets of living two lives. (Horimiya: Episode 1) They decided to not tell anybody else. This made them quite closer and friends eventually. Thanks to Hori, our loner boy was able to make some really good friends, including Toru Ishikawa. 

One day, Miyamura was at Hori’s place and her parents came back home. They asked  for Miyamura’s first name. (Horimiya: Episode 2) Hori realized that she didn’t know, so she tried her best to come up with his first name indirectly. It was truly cute. But our kind boy, Miyamura, decided to let her know at school. After that, the Student Council accused Hori of losing the important paperwork until it was exposed that Remi had thrown it away, They apologized to Hori and she says that she helped the Student Council out of pity. Hori basically bullied Sengoku in their childhood and she claimed it confidentially. 

As the third year approaches, Miyamura gifts Hori a CD on her birthday. (Horimiya: Episode 2) The next day, Miyamura ends up opening up to Hori and her friends. That’s how they formed this group of friends. After that, Remi approaches Hori and suggests that she should date Miyamura. Hearing that, our girl Hori becomes defensive. After school, Hori and Miyamura compare the sizes of their hands, making Hori’s heart do Doki Doki.

 She was on the verge of confessing her feelings. Toru confronts Miyamura about Hori and asks whether he likes Hori or not, he denies it and apologized for the fact that Hori was the cause of their fight. 

It’s almost summer and our girl Sakura ends up falling in love with Ishikawa who helped her pick up the scattered paperwork. (Horimiya: Episode 4) On the other hand, Hori gives Miyamura ice cream which he shared with Ishikawa and Sengoku. 

Hori and Miyamura were forced to buy drinks for their friends as they lost a game. After leaving School, Hori learns that Miyamura becomes angry when talking to Shindo – his middle school friend. After a while, 

Hori ends up falling ill and Miyamura starts to take care of her. In this situation of loneliness, Miyamura confesses his feelings for Hori. The next day, Hori’s baby brother, Sota ,claims that he saw Miyamura with a girl who was Shindo’s girlfriend. (Horimiya: Episode 5)

She becomes upset and avoids Miyamura, throwing her book at him. Later, Miyamura comes to Hori’s place to apologize and explain what happened. Hori’s father steps in and interrupts their conversation by asking whether they’re dating or not. 

Hori claims that Miyamura is her boyfriend. That’s how a beautiful love story between Hori and Miyamura starts, following ups and downs related to school.
