Killjoy Wiki

Killjoy is one of the main agents available in Valorant. She was the first new agent added to the game after its initial launch and makes up one of the three Sentinels in the game.

Appearance

Killjoy

There are no agent skins in Valorant, hence Killjoy only ever wears one outfit. Killjoy is often shown in official art wearing a large yellow jacket over a pair of black jeans. Her hair is always shown half covered by a large green beanie. She also has a pair of large, owl-like glasses.

Table of Contents

Killjoy is known as a bit of a tinkerer. Her design doesn’t lead to one immediately thinking of that though, outside of her glasses. Overall, Killjoy has a more generic design than someone like Raze -who could only ever have the skills that Raze does.

Strengths and Skills

Like all other agents, Killjoy has one signature ability, two basic abilities, and an ultimate. Killjoy is a sentinel, which means her job is to hold down large quarters of the map to lighten the burden for her team. She does this in a significantly different way from Sage and Cypher. Instead of using information like Cypher, or stalling tactics like Sage, Killjoy is more interested in controlling areas through pure damage.

Kill Joy Turret

Turret

Signature Ability

Killjoy can place a turret around her. This turret will view everything in its line of sight, guarding for enemies. If it spots anyone, the turret will activate, shooting bursts of bullets at the target. These bursts are perfectly accurate but do not deal significant damage on their own. If Killjoy goes too far away from her turret, it will deactivate until Killjoy gets back in range of it.

This ability is quite troublesome to deal with. It’s the main way Killjoy can secure a site, seeing as to how it is all but impossible to sneak past the turret if it’s placed properly on most maps. The turret is especially dangerous in the first rounds of the game, where other players often don’t have the guns to directly challenge it. On attack, the turret is usually used to watch for flanks.

Killjoy Alarm Bot

Alarm Bot

Basic Ability

Killjoy sets down an invisible bot. This bot monitors a small circle around it. When an enemy moves into this circle, the bot activates, rushing towards them and explodes. On explosion, it does no damage, but it gives enemies the Vulnerable status effect for a few seconds. While Vulnerable, enemies take double damage from all sources of damage.

The alarm bot forms the final key to Killjoy holding a site. If there is an angle that the turret might miss, you can be sure that is where the alarm bot is waiting. Many Killjoys also prefer to play around their bot, peeking when it explodes to target enemies that are now especially distracted and vulnerable.

Killjoy Swarm Bot

Swarm Grenade

Basic Ability

Killjoy has two grenades she can throw and detonate across the map. Once thrown, she cannot pick these grenades back up unless it’s the buy phase of the game.

A few prominent uses of these involve putting them in chokepoints, using them to stall fast pushes from enemy teams. They are also often paired with the alarm bot, exploding and doing massive damage to vulnerable damage if they don’t step out of the damage zone fast enough. Lastly on defense, they can be used to stall plants, as a Killjoy will have some of the default plant spots she’ll detonate when she hears the bomb being planted.

They are very useful for attacks as well. Killjoy players have recently started to use them to stop bomb defusal by hiding them around the bomb site. Many players have been left frustrated when every second matters.

Killjoy Lockdown

Lockdown

Ultimate

Killjoy places a beacon in front of her. The beacon spawns a large radius on the map and starts ticking down. When time runs out, any enemy agents caught in this area are disarmed, unable to use weapons, or move for a few seconds.

This is quite the powerful ultimate but it is rarely ever used to catch an opponent inside. Much more often, it is used to force players away from an area -such as to stall a push or to clear a site for a bomb plant.

Facts

  1. Killjoy grenades used to be significantly stronger and barely make a sound.
  2. Killjoy used to be able to use her turret and her alarm bot from across the map, just like Cypher. This made her better than Cypher in almost every way.
  3. Killjoy has said that she is responsible for almost all the tech used by all the agents in Valorant.

Past/History

Killjoy Past

A lot more is known about Killjoy than is known about most agents. For one thing, she has said that she is responsible for the technology used by many of the other agents. Raze, for example, clearly uses a modified alarm bot as her boom bot. Breach also seems to have gotten his arms from her. Not too much is known about Killjoy other than her scientific nature.

Voice Actors

Faye Mata

Killjoy is voiced by Faye Mata, a German voice actress. She doesn’t seem to be any stranger to Riot productions, seeing how she is also the voice behind Lulu -a League Of Legends champion. She has also worked in popular anime productions such as Fate/Apocrypha and Sword Art Online.

Quotes:

  1. “I built everything on this battlefield. Ja, even the things that might kill us. What? You want me to say sorry?”
  2. “Don’t worry team. If you die, I have your memories backed up at base! Heh, just kidding, just kidding…or am I…”
  3. “Remember, your weapon is only a tool. You can’t just shoot, you have to think!”

Conclusion

Despite not being one of the first agents released, Killjoy has cemented her part as being a vital part of the roster. She is the perfect mirror to Cypher and offered Sentinel players the chance to be more aggressive like they wanted for months before her release. Overall, her presence only makes Valorant a more fun place.
