One of the most gruesome anime death games ever created is undeniably Danganronpa. An entire class at each other’s throats fighting for survival.

Deception, lies, manipulations, backstabbings, secrets and evil plans are on the menu. Combine all that with very peculiar characters with Ultimate abilities more Kakkoii than the other and one of the most addictive series was born.
However, it was never determined who the strongest character was, what was the Ultimate of Ultimate abilities, so we decided to determine for ourselves. Here I present to you a list of the strongest Ultimate abilities of the Danganronpa series. Please take your time reading it and enjoy my dear readers.

From the second she opened her eyes; this noble character was made for greatness. Destined to become the future queen of the Kingdom of Novoselic, our prideful princess drowned herself in studies to make sure she was up for the role.
She taped into every field you can think of. From leadership, to law, economics, foreign languages, warfare and even medicine. At that point she’s more a nerd than anything else, but at least you can now start to grasp how intelligent this girl must be.
Unlike any other royal, Sonia puts the needs of her people before her own. If she needs to offer her life for the sake of her kingdom so be it, she’d do it with a smile on her face knowing that she fulfilled her duty.
Known as the Ultimate Princess, no one, even in our mundane world can shoulder that role better than her.
However, the life of a royalty is a lonely one. As no one shared her status, she was surrounded by people with ulterior motives and thus she learned how to read a person.
She grew up without friends, but when she enrolled into Hope’s Peak Academy things changed. She got to enjoy the youth she never had surrounded by people who thought themselves equal if not greater than her (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)

I don’t know what goes on in this girls’ mind, however the things she comes up with are so random and yet so useful we start to ask ourselves why no one thought of that in the real world. Her brain can be considered a treasure stove.
She knows for a fact that her inventions will change the world. She believes its her duty to make the world a better place since she is the only one capable of coming up and building the crazy stuff she comes up with.
And that’s not her only talent, hacking is also one of her strong suits and let me tell you this, the series should give her a second ultimate title, her skills are just mind-blowing.
Even among the very unique Danganronpa characters, Miu is considered an oddball. Extremely confident in her skills and abilities, she loves to degrade those she believes are beneath her, and that’s approximately the entire world. Okay, I have no nice way to say that, the girl is a bully.
Extremely arrogant, she kind of acts like a tomboy from time to time.Wish can be pretty disturbing when she makes a 360 degree turn and changes into a girly maiden when it suits her (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony).
14. The Ultimate Boxer — Juzo Sakakura

This scary looking teenager is a southpaw boxer who already won the World Championship once. An ultimate fighter with a short temper, he might send you flying because of a minuscule disagreement.
That nasty personality of his also bought him the title of the most aggressive character of the series.
Using just his punches, he can destroy not one but multiple Ultimate Despair at once. Even weapons are not enough to make him kneel. He laughs at the face of the people who think they can beat him just because they have a firearm in hand.
However, except for boxing, the kid is absolutely useless. When brute force isn’t needed, he can only be described as weak (DanganRonpa 3: Future Arc Episode 1).
That is why you can also consider him the Ultimate Weapon, when controlled by a smarter character, the guy is almost unstoppable.
So, bottom line, make sure you never make the simpleton angry when you are in front of him, and feel free to use him as a pawn whenever you like, he won’t even realize he is being used… but only if you are Kyosuke Munakata.
13. The Ultimate Supreme Leader — Kokichi Oma

Now, with all the deception and lies, even we don’t really know what’s real and what is fake in that series. We can only speculate or just believe what comes out of the characters mouth.
According to Kokichi, he is the head of a secret organization, a massive organization with more than 10,000 members (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony).
He dresses and acts like a dictator. He claims that he has undercover agents in every country in the world, that the real mastermind behind all the mafias deeds is him, that he will use any kind of torture or punishment to get what he wants from the person.
He even revealed his ultimate goal, take over the world only so he can watch it slowly burn from the sidelines.
However, he doesn’t just have bad intentions, if doing good will get him that adrenaline shot that he loves then even he can decide to do something nice for the world.
To give a 1% chance to his opponent because, you know, he is so kind, he might decide to try to settle fights with games. He also likes to use his title to make the mafia stand down and opt for peace in times of crisis just to see their infuriated faces when forced to listen to the commands of a teenager.
12. The Ultimate Confectioner — Ruruka Ando

She looks super cute and harmless, however, let me tell you this, this is one of the most dangerous characters of the series.
She makes candies, harmless right? But they aren’t normal to say the least. Her candies have the same effect as hard narcotics, they are extremely addictive.
Not only is she going to turn the humans into fat pigs, but she can also become the greatest drug dealer of our time since no one can throw her in prison for making sweets.
However, her trump card is the sweets that she makes. It has the ability to brainwash the eater and forces him to obey her every command.
She was the first smarty to try and make use of Juzo, she force fed him her product to turn him into her puppet, however, he managed to resist the effect of her ability.
She is the incarnation of the witch in Hansel and Gretel in the anime world, she just needs a candy house to seal the deal (Danganronpa 3: Future Arc, Episode 8l).
11. The Ultimate Detective — Kyoko Kirigiri

She was raised and trained to become a greater detective than Sherlock Holmes. From a very young age, her grandfather took her under his wing, made her his disciple and taught her the ropes of the job.
At only 13-year-old, she was officially acknowledged by the government as a legitimate detective of the highest caliber.
Analysis could be her second name. She can read clues as if they are a detailed book describing the crime.
Throughout the series, she proved herself to be the best at what she does and what’s even better is that she used her skills and abilities to aid others.
In a death game surrounded by traitors and dirty human beings who had only their own benefits in mind, she had the will to assist her classmates in times of need.
If it was to ease their hearts, to get them out of a pinch or just to stand by them as a moral support, she was ready to extend a helping hand and that is why she is one of the most precious characters in Danganronpa. In all that darkness, she was one of the rare rays of light.
10. The Ultimate Martial Artist — Sakura Ogami

Covered with ripped muscles from head to toe, Sakura can no longer be considered a girl, she is a beast, a fighting monster that can overpower any man with ease. And to be honest, she is the pride and joy of her gender.
She is only a teenager; she is a girl and yet she won more than 400 straight wins in martial arts tournaments back in America and let me just point out that not all her opponents were women.
Her father, who taught her all she knows, was massacred by her not long after her training began. The student surpassed the master at an exorbitant rate.
Only one man, just one, stands above her, his name is Kenshiro and he also happened to be her crush.
Now I don’t think he is undefeated because of his strength, it’s just that she can’t bring herself to hurt the beautiful face of the man she wants as a husband. Now, sorry to say that
She is proficient in every type of martial arts and thus her favorite one is MMA, an art that combines all the fighting styles under one cage where everything goes.
She never fought against Juzo, however, Kodaka stated that if they ever had to fight, he wouldn’t be surprised if Sakura would turn out victorious. She also easily beat the Ultimate Soldier, Mukuro Ikusaba and those are just some of her feats in the series (Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc).
9. The Ultimate Cosplayer — Tsumugi Shirogane

Although I would love to see that girl in a cosplay, Tsumugi actually doesn’t enjoy cosplaying herself, she only likes to make the costumes, she once said that it was like bringing a fictional character to life.
However, in a death game, the Otaku couldn’t be peaky with her methods and had to use what her strong suits to the max.
Not only can she endorse a character to perfection in terms of appearance, but she can also perfectly mimic their voice and mannerism. She is a girl with multiple talents that could have been even better than the Ultimate Imposter if she wasn’t allergic to cosplaying into real people.
What differentiates her from all the other characters in the series is that she has a heightened perception of fiction and reality as she was seen breaking the fourth wall on multiple occasions (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony).
8. The Ultimate Swordswoman — Peko Pekoyama

Having been trained by the Kuzuryu clan as soon as she learned how to walk, saying she is a goddess with a sword is an understatement.
Acknowledged by her masters, she was appointed as the protector of her clans’ successors, a crucial role that proves how much her family trusted her and her skills.
Not only can she use a Katana, but she can also perfectly use a Shinai and is quite nimble. She learned to pinpoint the humans’ vitals and can accurately deal fatal or non-fatal blows. When going for the final strike, she only needs one slice to end it all. In the Academy, she is considered almost as strong as Mukuro Ikusaba, the Ultimate Soldier, only if she didn’t lose against her (Danganronpa Despair Arc, Episode 8).
Using her abilities in the smartest of ways, she always finds a way to get out of a tight situation. When overpowered, she uses her surroundings to her advantage and focuses on surprise attacks to confuse her opponent.
Her intelligent, fighting sense are her hidden weapons, the components that make her one step ahead of all her other classmates and the reason she is so high up in the list as well.
7. The Ultimate Soldier — Mukuro Ikusaba

She was living in Europe with her family, when, I don’t know what struck her, she decided that it would be cool to become a mercenary and traveled to the Middle East to join a group called Fenrir Mercenary Group.
A pampered girl suddenly thrown into the battlefield, you’d think she’d struggle at least a bit, however, during her entire time in warzones and fighting grounds she never suffered a single injury, even scratches were rarely seen on her body.
She can use every weapon you can think of, knives, grenades, explosives, firearms…, she is extraordinary at hand-to-hand combat. While fighting, she doesn’t hesitate, she’s merciless, since she knows that if she wavers, she’s dead.
When she joined Hope Peak Academy she made sashimi out of The Ultimate Swordswoman, Peko Pekoyama (Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc Episode 8), and humiliated the Academy security team (Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc Episode 6).
If she ever applied to the Red Cross, they’d take her in a sec. She knows all about first aid treatments and can keep someone alive even if they suffered grave injuries (Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc IF)
Her instincts are also quite amazing, she can sense danger coming from afar and have quick reaction time to deal with the unexpected.
6. The Ultimate Mechanic — Kazuichi Soda

Like any boy of his age, all Kazuichi wants is to be a cool badass who is afraid of nothing, however, he can’t change who he really is and what he is a coward.
He had a very difficult childhood, growing up in the midst of a poor family, he had to help run his father’s bike shop while building for himself the things he needed or wanted.
At school, it wasn’t much better. He looked and acted like a pushover and thus was severely bullied by the other kids.
He had one friend, a friend that he shared everything with, he trusted him more than anyone in the world and yet that one friend betrayed him.
That was the turning point of his life, he threw away who he was, changed his hair color, sharpened his teeth, got rid of his glasses and took on the appearance of a punk.
After that, he was soon accepted into Hope’s Peak Academy where he thought that everything would get better. He fell in love with the Ultimate Princess who didn’t love him back and got trapped into a death game to boot.
Worthy of the name Ultimate Mechanic, there is nothing he can’t fix, nothing he can’t tweak to make it a hundred times better than it originally was. That goes for weapons as well.
No matter how unreliable the guy might sound, he is a person you definitely want on your team. Consider him your joker (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair).

5. The Ultimate Animator — Ryota Mitarai

Ryota Mitarai wants to spread joy through his animation, well, he has a weird way to do so since he uses multiple dirty tricks like sensory simulators, sound waves plus some other secret techniques to manipulate the viewers focus, tweak with their memories, hypnotize and even brainwash them.
A terrifying technique that can bring hope into the right hands or despair if evil gets a hold of it. Thing is, Ryota is quite naïve and revealed all his secrets to the most despicable of persons, Junko Enoshima.
She used his techniques in animating, made some slight changes to it, turned it into a despair video, leaked it into the entire school and threw the whole Academy into darkness.
When the Final Killing Game was over, Ryota who still had the Hope Video on his phone leaked it on a global scale, got rid of despair, however, the price was humanity’s free will (Danganronpa 3: Hope Arc Episode 12).
4. The Ultimate Imposter — ????

We don’t know who he is, what he looks like, he doesn’t have any family or friends, anything that can link him to his past, his or her identity is a total mystery.
However, that person still wanted to be acknowledged and to do so he had to endorse the identity of another human being. He studies him in order to impersonate him to perfection, his voice, his habits, his ticks, he’ll make them his own.
Through thorough investigation, he can even mimic their skills and abilities which makes him kind of overpowered considering the amount of knowledge he stole.
It’s impossible to make the difference between real and fake, you wouldn’t even notice the difference in body build . Furthermore, the Ultimate Imposter is capable of changing appearance at lightning speed, a feat that can only be described as superhuman.
If he doesn’t reveal himself or the real character appears while he is present, he can live on indefinitely with the skin he is currently borrowing.
Just imagine hanging out with people every day while knowing that one of them might not be who he says he is (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)
3. The Ultimate Lucky Student — Nagito Komaeda

Only geniuses, prodigies, humans with unbelievable talent get to enroll into Hope’s Peak Academy and yet Nagito in nothing like that, it’s just that he is overflowing with luck or at that point bad luck for becoming a student at that school after winning a lottery.
Nagito is average in every way, however, he has a minimum grasp on any kind of topic or field. Also, it turns out that he is quite intelligent since he is able to concoct complex and very elaborated plans, he can read between the lines and figure out things that aren’t obvious at first glance and he does all that without using his luck, however, everything to endeavors tends to blow up in his face for some reason.
Very attention to details, his eyes are like a radar which is something that his classmates find somehow annoying, nothing gets past him.
In addition, with a guy with such an innocent face, you’d be shocked to know that he is an amazing manipulator. Using his weakness to his advantage, he can take control of the conversation and get people to arrive at the conclusion that he desires.
He was the first one to doubt Junko, warned his classmates about her, he found her secret room and we believe that if he was awake at the time, while Junko was spreading her despair, he would’ve successfully avoided all her traps (Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc, Episode 8).
He can also tell what talent a person has by looking at them. He sensed from the beginning that Hajime’s place wasn’t with them, and he was right, the guy turned out talentless (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair).
2. The Ultimate Hope — Hajime Hinata/Kamakura Izuru

At the beginning, Hajime was talentless, however, after undergoing a procedure where he would get all the talent of the world, he became Izuru Kamakura,the Ultimate Hope.
As the Ultimate Hope, he can use the abilities of the other Ultimate’s at the school such as the Ultimate Analyst or the Ultimate Soldier and what’s even more extraordinary is that he doesn’t feel the drawbacks of those talents.
Also, the guy turned into superman and acquired super strength and super speed, he can defeat an armed squadron by himself in less than a minute, he can bend metal, punch holes into walls, I don’t think he is human anymore!
When his classmates fell into a coma, he was the one to wake them up using the skills of the guy who made the Neo World Program.
One thing was very noticeable after his transformation, he became more cold blooded, stoic than he was. He went as far as mercilessly killing the people who dared to threaten his friends.
However, he still has that trustworthy side to him, a side that lets you open up your heart to him and share your problems and insecurities, just like would to a counselor (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair).
1. The Ultimate Analyst — Junko Enoshima/Ryoko Otonashi

When she was first introduced, Junko Enoshima was the Ultimate Fashionista, she was a super famous model that you could see on the cover of many magazines.
However, it was later revealed that that was not just her Ultimate ability and that she was in fact The Ultimate Analyst, as well.
In mere seconds, she can analyze, understand and memorize her entire environment. Not only can she predict the future, but she can also learn anyone’s skills super easily. She made a video Ryota style ( DanganRonpa: Despair Arc Episode 9) and built an AI using Chihiro’s talent.
She was able to manipulate events that led to The Tragedy of Hope’s Peak Academy, The Parade and even The Tragedy that hit the world on a global scale.
Her plans are amazingly complex and work perfectly, she is a genius at manipulation and can read a person as if they are open books. She knows how they think and what they are about to do even before them.
Even if her opponents are physically overpowering her, using her astonishing intellect she can defeat them with ease as there is no possible way for them to even land a blow on her.
The greatest drawback of this ability is that she became so bored of this world and believes only despair can make it exciting.
Conclusion

Charlotte Just like Tokyo Revengers, Charlotte also involves the theme of time traveling. It also involves some High School stuff going on just like Tokyo Revengers. So, if you liked Tokyo Revengers, you’re definitely going to love watching Charlotte, too! Charlotte follows the story of some pre adolescent kids who start developing superhuman powers when a mysterious comet named Charlotte passes by Earth. Yuu Otosaka is our MC who develops the power of possessing anyone’s body for five seconds and wants to use it to live his school life as carefree as he can. However, he’s exposed by a girl named Nao Tomori. She forces him to transfer to the Houshinoumi Academy where the rest of the kids with superhuman powers are. Together, they search for their destiny as power wielders. 10. Black Lagoon Black Lagoon is an action-oriented anime with a bunch of delinquents/yakuza just like Tokyo Revengers. However, the yakuza in Black Lagoon are definitely on a whole other level of badass. So, if you’re into some action-filled anime, we definitely recommend you to watch this one! Black Lagoon tells us the story of Rokuro Okajima who’s an ordinary salaryman, carrying some important documents for the company. The ship he’s traveling in gets attacked by the pirates. He’s kidnapped by the mercenaries but his top priority is to keep the documents safe. He soon notices that the pirates are quite friendly and mean no harm to him. ReLife ReLife features the concept of time traveling along with some lovey-dovey concept that is quite similar to Tokyo Revengers. You’d also notice the characters of both the anime giving the same vibes despite having different dynamics. Traveling back in time to fix one’s life by not repeating the same mistake is what’s similar in both ReLife and Tokyo Revengers. The story revolves around a 27-year-old guy named Kaizaki Arata, who’s hopeless in finding a job after quitting his former one. One day he meets Ryo Yoake who works at the ReLife Research Institute. Ryo possesses a drug that could transform Kaizaki into his 17-year-old self again to fix his past mistakes. Kaizaki agrees to use it and starts his life again as a high-schooler. 8. Great Teacher Onizuka Both Great Teacher Onizuka and Tokyo Revengers share the theme of High School Drama and involve some really nice yakuza action. However, Great Teacher Onizuka is definitely way more comedic than Tokyo Revengers. Our MC in Great Teacher Onizuka is a badass ex-biker gang leader who aspires to be a great high school teacher (How ironic!). However, he’s up to no good as his sole motive of getting into a high school as a teacher is just to find a pretty little teenage wife for him. He manages to get into the prestigious Holy Forest Academy but finds himself in a bit of a mess as his class is notorious for being rotten to the core. The students face issues every day and he is the one who solves them by using his life lessons. 7. Orange Orange is just another anime with time-traveling as its main theme. Although it does not involve any delinquents or yakuza, it is quite similar to Tokyo Revengers. Both involve some high school romance and the MCs wishing to fix their past mistakes to save their loved ones. We definitely recommend you to check it out if you loved watching Tokyo Revengers. Orange follows the story of Takamiya Naho who receives a detailed letter from herself 10 years in the future one day. The story is about Makoto Majima who is a troubleshooter and often fixes disputes amongst the deadly yakuza that live in Ikebukuro. He’s Extremely capable and is able to do things that even the police can’t. Makoto ends up losing his loved one when things get out of hand. Will he keep his cool and deal with everything logically or go haywire? The answer lies in the anime! 5. Rainbow Another anime about delinquents and gangs, Rainbow tells us the story of some bad boys that are also sad boys! Rainbow and Tokyo revengers are quite similar because of the concept of yakuza bonding and deeply analyzing why they turn out to be like that. Rainbow tells us the story of a bunch of teenagers who have been shifted to Shounan Special Reform School because of some crimes they committed. They meet an older inmate, Rokurouta Sakuragi, who was a former boxer in their cell and all of them become close to him. Shounan Bakusozouku This anime features a theme of gang culture and mixes it up with the high school drama which gives it an interesting edge! We see the concept of gang culture portrayed beautifully in this anime just like Tokyo Revengers. Shounan Bakusozouku is about a high school gang leader who’s a biker as well as a member of his school’s handicrafts club (How ironic!). We find our MC very weird because he constantly juggles between being a badass biker and a total cutie with his handicrafts. The rest of his gang is equally weird! 3. Steins; Gate Steins; Gate incorporates the theme of time travel and is very similar to Tokyo Revengers. However, we don’t see any gangs or yakuza in Steins; Gate. Our MC, unlike the MC of Tokyo Revengers, is a weird scientist. Both the anime involve going back in time to save their loved ones. This anime revolves around a mad scientist named Rintarou Okabe along with his team members, Mayuri Shiina and Hashida Itaru who are constantly working on some “Future Gadgets”. They manage to create a bizarre “Phone Microwave” that can send Emails to the past, changing the past completely. 2. Kokou Botuden Crows Kokou Botuden Crows revolve around high school gangs and delinquents and their strong bonds with each other. If you liked Tokyo Revengers, you’re definitely going to love this one! The story is about Bouya Harumichi who got transferred to an all-boys high school. That high school is a haven for some of the most dangerous delinquents. The high school is named “Crows High School” because the students get a lot of hate from normal people because of their inauspiciousness. Hamachi has the potential of becoming a badass delinquent. But will he really join hands with the delinquents and get all the hate from the people around him? 1. Erased Just like the MC of Tokyo Revengers, our MC from Erased becomes his younger self to save his loved one. Both anime share the concept of time traveling as well as changing the course of things so that they could fix what they’ve ruined. Erased follows the story of Satoru Fujinuma who’s a reclusive part-timer with no ambitions. However, he has the power of going back in time and avoiding accidents or deaths (Such a convenient power!). Satoru lives with a constant childhood trauma that he would like to forget. The only way is to go back in the past and fix things so that he could live his life without any guilt. Will he trust his ability and go back in time to fix things? The plot follows Ryuuichi Kashima and his little brother Kotarou. After losing both their parents in a plane crash, Ryuuichi now joins the babysitter club in exchange for the chairwoman of Morinomiya Academy to let them live with her for free and enroll Ryuuichi in the school without pay. This series just doesn’t involve babies, but it features a story of two brothers slowly adapting to a new environment without a family, but slowly they start to realize that they will never be alone. Horimiya You might be wondering why Horimiya is on the list, but hold your horses and hear me out. Horimiya has some similarities to Gakuen Babysitters especially in how episodes progress. The story progresses in a manner that cannot be easily realized by the viewer. Another thing that Horimiya has that is the same with Gakuen Babysitters is how they portray the Slice of Life and Comedy genre realistically. It has characters that have similar characteristics to Gakuen Babysitters as well. Similar to Ryuuichi, Miyamura (the male main character) started to understand that no one can be alone, as he meets friends and eventually finds the love of his life. Horimiya is a Slice of Life, RomCom anime that features Izumi Miyamura, a timid and shy student who was alone for most of his life and was constantly bullied, and Kyouko Hori who is an independent and determined high school girl. As the days go by and they start to know each other, love eventually blossoms between the two, and a new world is opened up for Miyamura Izumi. Not only that, their comedic antics are closely similar to the series as well but it lacks the wholesomeness that encapsulates Gakuen Babysitters. Himouto! Umaru-chan is a pure comedic slice of life anime that offers little drama but packs a punch with its jokes and hilarious scenes. The series revolves around Umaru Doma who is a perfect high school student but once she gets home and wears her hamster hoodie, she becomes this lazy otaku that just does whatever she likes, leaving her brother, Taihei all the household chores. The series also has a set of characters that give more spice to the comedy such as the shy and quiet Ebina, the so-called rival Sylphynford, and the Hayato-like Kirie. Again, she just looks like a baby, and maybe even has the same IQ as one. 13. Tamako Market We had high schoolers who were as dumb as a baby, we had an otaku who looks like a baby, but now we get－a talking bird! Yes. A talking bird who’s addicted to mochi. One thing for sure that makes Tamako Market have similarities with Gakuen Babysitters is that it is Slice of Life anime through and through. It features the everyday life of Tamako Kitashirakawa, just like in Gakuen Babysitters where the story revolves around the daily life of Ryuuichi inside the daycare. But instead of daycare, we have a market and instead of babies, you have a bird who has a bigger ego than that one guy who just got a raise. Tamako Market also has the wholesomeness and subtle comedy and romance in Gakuen Babysitters. As I’ve said Tamako Market revolves around the life of Tamako and the market where everyone knows everyone. Tamako belongs to a family of mochi bakers. On a fateful day, she finds Dera Mochimazzi, a bird who proclaims that he is royalty from a distant land and is in search of a bride for his nation’s prince. But Dera takes on an unusual addiction to Mochi, becomes overweight, and can no longer return to his homeland. He lives in Tamako’s house and becomes the mascot. There is also a little romance involved as Tamako’s childhood friend Mochizou continues to hide his feelings from her. 12. K-On! What goes well with wholesomeness? Music and a Tea Party! K-On! is another wholesome slice of life anime that is set in a Japanese high school. But instead of daycare or your typical high school student, K-On! features the four (and then five) high school girls that reside within the Light Music Club. The series shows their day-to-day life just like in Gakuen Babysitters but adds a little uniqueness with their songs and performances. It also has comedy, a little bit of drama that can be found in high school, as well as their journey to achieve their dream. The band name is “Afterschool Tea Time”. The band members include The forgetful main character Yui Hirasawa who plays the guitar and is the lead vocalist; The energetic Ritsu Tainaka who plays the drums; The shy Mio Akiyama, the second vocalist, and bassist; The wealthy and naive Tsugumi Kotobuki who plays the keyboard and; a member who will arrive at the later part of the series, Azusa Nakano who also plays the guitar. Gakuen Babysitters have a more realistic slice of life but Nichijou is like Gakuen Babysitters but drinks coffee 3 times a day. It’s also set in a high school setting just like in Gakuen Babysitters but lacks the emotional drama as it's a full-blown slapstick comedy. Nichijou is the anime series that took all of Gakuen Babysitters' comedy and put them in a high school setting. It’s like a series out of all the imaginations of the babies in the daycare in Gakuen Babysitters. Maybe this is what Usaida is dreaming about. 10. Chibi☆Devi! We finally have babies! Well…devil babies. Chibi☆Devi! is a series that just like Gakuen Babysitters tackles the hardships of taking care of babies but this series just has a “devilish” twist in it. It features the activities that can be found in Gakuen Babysitters such as nap-time and story-time. One thing that sets this apart from Gakuen Babysitters, however, is that the series is geared towards much younger audiences so you won’t find the emotional drama, and the comedy is built for those at a young age. The series is focused on Honoka Sawada who doesn’t believe in devils and such but one day a devil baby named Mao was dropped into her room while she was asleep and is now enlisting the help of Shin Sugisaki to help her in dealing with the unusual circumstances. 9. My Roommate is a Cat From a talking bird to devil babies and back to an ordinary cat. This may seem like a downgrade but keep reading, this series has a lot more in common with Gakuen Babysitters than you thought. It perfectly re-enacts the situation Ryuuichi and Kotarou are in where their parents died in an accident leaving them alone. But in My Roommate is a Cat, the main character is living in solitude until he meets Haru, a grey cat he decided to take care of. He is similar to Ryuuichi because he is put in a situation where he must take care of someone/something other than himself. Although, instead of being like Ryuuichi who is responsible, Subaru can’t even seem to take care of himself. The similarities don’t stop there, after his fateful meeting with Haru, Subaru is now being acquainted with more and more people and is slowly leaving his introverted life. My Roommate is a Cat that builds up an entire story from the “stray gets picked up from the streets” cliche in other anime series and that itself is amazing. It’s heartwarming and also involves funny scenes. Even though Haru has a backstory, the series makes sure that you get to know and fall in love with the characters. 8. Poco’s Udon World Just by looking at the picture you can tell that even in the art style, Poco’s Udon World and Gakuen Babysitters are starting to look alike. But only do they look alike but there are also similarities in their plot and concept. Poco’s Udon World is more intertwined with fantasy while Gakuen Babysitter is telling their story from a more realistic perspective. I mean Poco’s Udon World has a shapeshifting Tanuki. The main characters of the two series also lost both their parents. Poco’s Udon World also has that wholesome tone to it and also talks about the past of the main character, Souta Tawara. There are also similarities in how the supporting characters act and their main characteristics. The storytelling is also similar to Gakuen Babysitter where there is no definitive storyline, the series is just taking us through the daily life of the characters. So, if you’re not into talking birds and cats, maybe you’re more into a shapeshifting Tanuki named Poco. 7. Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge This anime is if you imagined Usaida and Ryuuichi changed attitudes. I guess this is what Usaida’s dreams must be about. Also called Tanaka-kun is Always Listless in English it revolves around the main character Tanaka, who doesn’t want to exert energy, and his dependable friend Oota (blonde Usaida) as they encounter extraordinary events while living their high school lives. It’s a slice-of-life comedy anime that focuses on the dream of the main character to live a peaceful and quiet life. It also has a pretty unique art style. The similarities it has with Gakuen Babysitters lie in the basic concept of Tanaka’s daily life. While being the opposite of the responsible Ryuuichi, both series focus on the daily life of the characters and the unusual situations that happen in them. Its style of comedy is also similar to Gakuen Babysitters as well as its list of characters. 6. Sweetness & Lightning We finally reached it! If you’re the one who just scrolled all the way here to find an anime that involves taking care of a real baby, you’ve done it! The anime focuses on the life of Kouhei Inuzaka who is taking care of his daughter Tsumugi after his wife passed away. Because of his busy life and his inability to cook, he usually feeds both of them food from the convenience store. He takes up an offer from his student Kotori, and he and Tsumugi eat and cook together with Kotori. In terms of similarity with Gakuen Babysitters, first off, they both stick to the realistic manner of portraying the slice of life genre. He is also in the same situation as Ryuuichi but this time he’s the father. There is also a hint of drama involved especially in the characters' current situation. It’s a wholesome anime that involves cooking, family, and emotions. In a sense, it's more realistic than Gakuen Babysitters especially in how it deals with the character’s feelings. 5. How to Keep a Mummy Look at that mummy! Who in this world would not think that that’s not cute? And there’s more where that came from. How to Keep a Mummy essentially replaced the babies in Gakuen Babysitters with unique cute pets. The story is all about a high school student named Sora Kashiwagi who receives bizarre gifts from his father who travels the world. When he receives a present that came from Egypt he’s shocked to find a little mummy named Mii-kun. As they go along with their lives they start to meet other people with extraordinary pets. This is essentially Gakuen Babysitters if it were set in Night at the Museum. Both series are cute and wholesome. You can’t help but smile at their antics and their amusing everyday lives. Who wouldn’t enjoy that heartwarming tea-cup size cuteness overload? 4. Bunny Drop Bunny Drop is similar to Sweetness & Lightning but instead of the main character being a single father he is now a 30-year old bachelor who just goes with the flow. The story begins when Daikichi Kawachi was paying his respects to his grandfather. He meets a shy girl named Rin Kaga who is being rejected by Daickihi’s grandfather’s relatives after his death as they think she is a shame to the family as she was shockingly his Daikichi’s grandfather’s illegitimate daughter. Furious, Daikichi decides to take Rin as his own and so his journey to fatherhood starts. Bunny Drop has close ties with Gakuen Babysitters especially in how the series’ main characters try to discover and rediscover the warmth and kindness of a close-knit family. Bunny Drop includes wholesome scenes. The series is rare in the anime world because it deals with a subject that is often taken seriously. This slice of life anime will surely make you smile and maybe make you shed a tear or two. 3. Barakamon Barakamon is not about taking care of children but it’s about discovering yourself while being in contact with one. The plot of Barakamon is centered on Seishu Handa who is a narcissistic and talented calligrapher who was exiled to the Goto Islands after losing his cool when his work was called unoriginal. He meets his wacky neighbors who keep barging into his home, one of which is Naru Kotoishi, a very annoying child. While in exile and always being kept busy by his neighbors, he starts to learn new things that began to change his view on so many things in life. Gakuen Babysitters primarily focuses on antics as well as having subtle emotional scenes such as the case with Barakamon. But Barakamon tends to focus on one of Seishu’s views on life instead of his situation. It has similarities with the comedic scenes in Gakuen Babysitters as well as the way it portrays a slice of life. Maybe by watching this anime, you can learn something that will change your perspective about the world. 2. Baby and Me You may be thinking, what’s an anime that premiered in 1996 doing here? Well, because it is one of the most similar anime to Gakuen Babysitters of course! Maybe even its grandfather or something. Such as I said it's similar to Gakuen Babysitters because the mother of the main character, Takuya Enoki’s mother passed away and now he must sacrifice his childhood, even as a 5th grader to take care of his little brother as his father is busy working as your typical Japanese salaryman. Takuya’s situation is almost the same as Ryuuichi as they both try their best to find the true meaning of family. Baby and Me is essentially a drama-comedy anime. It portrays a situation that happens in real life and the story is beautiful on its own. It may be old but it sure is worth watching. 1. Hanamaru Youchien Hanamaru Youchien or Hanamaru Kindergarten is the closest anime just like Gakuen Babysitters. The main character might not have the same family situation just like Ryuuichi but the scenarios, comedy, and slice of life elements of the two series are like twins. Hanamaru Youchien also has that subtle romance where the main character, Naozumi Tsuchida is in love with Nanako Yamamoto who supervises the class next door. Its structure of events is also similar to Gakuen Babysitters. The show is as wholesome as it gets pretty funny because it’s one of the few anime where a big part of the story is where Anzu, a kindergartener fell in love with Naozumi. The series is relaxing, fun, and just all-around laid-back. It’s a must-watch if you liked Gakuen Babysitters. I added those honorifics to the mix even if they are not used in the modern age because, frankly, I was very curious about them. Turns out that those two honorifics mean the same thing. The same Kanji is used to write both of them and it means “Lord”. It was used in the paste between Nobles to address each other with the same level of respect and the servants had the liberty to use Dono, Tono, or Sama. Since we started to mention royalty, let’s continue on this path. Those are the most famous titles of royalty Heika means Majesty. Denka means Royal Highness. Kakka means Your Excellence.
