Synopsis
Vinland Saga is an anime that was released in 2019. It has a total of 24 episodes, and only one season currently, it was animated by Wit Studios created this anime. This anime has a pretty unique story if you ask me.
Vinland Saga follows the story of Thorfinn. Thorfinn was born in an Ice village, and he always used to hear these stories about people who traveled the ocean or those who conquered whole countries and stuff.
Thorfinn was tired of this. Soon, He moved to a place called “Vinland.” This place was known to be warm and peaceful—that’s what he thought. When Thorfinn was growing up, his father used to tell him that he had no enemies.
No one has enemies. Soon, the war between England and Denmark started to get really bad. Lots of death, crying, and screaming. Many innocent people lost their lives. As Thorfinn thought life couldn’t get worse, his father died.
Yes! His father died. No, not in a storm or something. He was actually killed, by who? You may ask. Well, by a man who goes by the name of Askeladd. He killed Thorfinn’s father.
When Thorfinn discovered his father had died, he was devastated and wanted revenge. I mean, revenge is pretty standard nowadays. Many people choose not to forgive and to avenge their loved ones.
Thorfinn is actually a Viking, and so were his father and others. The Vikings divided and took sides when the war between England and Denmark started. Some decided to side with the English, and some decided to side with the Danes.
“Vinland” is not a peaceful place but a warzone. The only way to get peace is by ending this war, this era. Thorfinn is now on a journey to kill Askeladd and to stop this between England and Danes because things could go really bad if this war doesn’t stop.

As you know, Vinland Saga only has 1 season with a total of 24 episodes. It will be getting a second season soon, most probably in 2023. This first season covered around 50 manga chapters.

What’s better than starting with our Main Character? Thorfinn is the Main Protagonist of this story and is a young teenager who wants nothing but for his fathers revenge. At a young age, He lost his father to the hands of Askeladd.
Did you know that Thor was known to be one of the most potent Vikings before Askeladd mercilessly killed him?
In order to avenge his father, he started training daily and started to fight and fight until one day, he ran into Askeladd.
Instead of killing Askeladd, he joined him. Now you may ask, “How can he just join Askeladd?? Isn’t Askeladd Thorfinn’s enemy?” Well, yes, he is. Thorfinn was going to kill Askeladd eventually after joining his team.
Let’s talk about Thorfinn’s personality. Before Thorfinn’s father died, he was a cheerful boy, but after his father Thor died, he became vicious and depressed. In simple words, his whole personality changed.
He wields two daggers and is good at close combat. Not only that, but he is also pretty good at throwing his blades at his enemies. He has good stamina and durability. He is an opponent that you would NEVER want to mess with!

Askeladd
Let’s talk about Thorfinn’s biggest enemy, Askeladd. Askeladd is the person who killed Thorfinn’s father, Thor.
Anyway, Askeladd is the leader of a group of Bandits. He is pretty mysterious. One thing about Vikings is that they are loyal, and they fight fair. That’s actually the reason why Thorfinn joined Askeladd.
Thorfinn wants to kill Askeladd fair and square in a close-combat. Why did Askeladd even kill Thor in the first place? Well, I will tell you why he killed Thor and I will try my best not to spoil everything. I don’t know if its just me, or I feel like Vinland Saga’s characters are really badass!
So the reason Askeladd killed Thor is that… he was actually ORDERED TOO! Yes! He was ordered to kill Thor. Who ordered Askeladd to kill Thor? Well, I won’t tell you that! Because y’know, it will be no fun if I just spoiled everything for you!

Canute
Canute is the final character we will be talking about. He is also one of the main characters of this story, and just like Askeladd, he is a mysterious person. No, Canute is not that OP main character.
He is actually weak. By weak, I mean REALLLYYY weak. He has lousy stamina and insufficient durability and doesn’t even fight. He is actually the king of Denmark. Yes! This man is actually the current king of Denmark.
He is the son of a man who goes by the name of Sweyn Forkbeard. Sweyn used to be the king but he was soon assassinated by Askeladd. My man Askeladd is going around killing everyone, lmao! After Forkbeard died, Canute became the king.
