Yuri!!! on Ice is definitely one of the most amusing romance sports anime of all time. It follows the love story of two ice skaters who are continuously trying to improve their skating abilities and move forward in their careers. It premiered back in 2016 and quickly gained the attention of people for its positive presentation of boys’ love and the actual portrayals of Ice Skating as a sport and art.
We found out in 2017 that it has been Japan’s eighth highest-selling media that surpassed My Hero Academia, Mobile Suit Gundam, and other such anime. Isn’t that interesting? I mean, to me it’s totally understandable since this show was animated by none other than MAPPA Studio.

Yuri!!! on Ice The Movie: Ice Adolescence (Release Date 2022)

Unluckily, MAPPA seems to be giving its fan the cold shoulder. Fans knew about this movie even before MAPPA released its very first trailer back in 2018.
Before the poor fans came to know about the trailer, MAPPA quickly delayed the movie the same year it was supposed to debut. However, we are really not sure when this movie is being released. I know it’s sad but this movie was supposed to be released in late-2021. Hang in there people of the world. Let me tell you a bit about the plot and what happened in the trailer of the movie now.
Predicted Plot
Yuri!!! on Ice, The Movie: Ice Adolescence’s trailer that was released back in 2019 contained a young Viktor Nikiforov who was performing ice skating at the Winter Olympic Games. This is the theme that is being continued in the trailer and not much is known about the plot of Yuri!!! on Ice, The Movie: Ice Adolescence.
However, if you haven’t watched this anime, let me tell you what happens in it. Yuri!!! On Ice is a story about a figure skater named Yuri Katsuki who’s all worn out and not in shape to play any sports. He loves sports and can’t back down.
One night, this figure skater tries to perform the tricks of his idol and the competitor which gets captured by young students. They were basically filming him. This video gets viral and apparently reaches his idol named Viktor Nikiforov. Doesn’t that sound like an interesting plot? Do you know what happens next?
Next, Viktor Nikiforov watches that video and decides to fly back to Japan to help this helpless fellow become a successful Ice Skater with a lot more things going side-by-side. Viktor decides to become his mentor to polish off his skating skills.
But that’s not all, he ends up falling for Yuri. Then their love story along with intense competition starts. If you’re a fan of BL, you’re surely going to enjoy watching Yuri!!! on Ice. Let me tell you a bit about the characters of the series now.
The Characters
Although we only got to see Viktor’s young self in an Olympic competition, I’m sure there will be some other characters in the movies too. So, let me introduce you to the characters of Yuri!!! on Ice, so you get to know them better. The characters are really wholesome and you will eventually end up falling for them. I warned you guys, sit back and relax, grab your popcorn because you’re surely going to enjoy this.
Viktor Nikiforov
Viktor Nikiforov is one of the main characters in the series. He’s the teacher/mentor/coach of Yuri Katsuki. He’s a very handsome man with white/grey hair and light blue eyes. His hair looks icy and cool.
During the warm-ups, before skating, Viktor likes to put on a white and a red jacket over his costume. He does that to stretch and warms up. This guy has a great fashion sense, he’s a big fan of trench coats, especially, if he’s going somewhere cold.
Let’s talk a bit about his personality now, he’s naturally very flirtatious. He’s a celebrity, therefore, his never-ending charms can trap anyone. He’s the type of guy who doesn’t give up easily and does his best to polish his skating skills.
His devotion to figure skating is on another level. If you haven’t watched this anime, you really need to. Why? Because of its characters, animation, and fluidity while ice skating. It feels like you’re skating with the characters. HAHA. Jokes aside, Viktor really is a very responsible and able coach. He makes sure to fulfil his duties as a coach.
Yuri Katsuki
Next off, we have the second protagonist, Yuri Katsuki. He’s the competitor and the love interest of Viktor Nikiforov. He’s literally engaged with him, how cool is that?
Yuri has short and jet-black, messy hair. He wears blue glasses but while skating he removes them and looks like a whole new person. Yuri likes to wear layers of clothes just to hide his weight. HAHA, now that’s a smart idea. He just gains weight very easily. If we talk about his warm-up clothes, he likes to wear a jacket and black pants. Very simple, right?
Let’s talk a bit about his personality too. He’s a soft-hearted and laid-back type of person. He gets easily devastated whenever he faces failure. Literally, this guy can slip into months of depression whenever he fails. Yuri tends to get easily embarrassed.
However, after being taken as the student of Viktor, his morale rose and he continues to work hard for ice skating. I mean, Viktor was his idol after all. Viktor is a great coach, he’s very responsible and aware of his duties. After being attached to Viktor, Yuri learned to face failure, work hard for things, and not to get depressed since Viktor became his love interest. During the competitions, he tends to get a bit cocky and self-centred. It’s his anxiety that tells him to be that way. The boy can’t help but become cold during the competitions. So, you get to see a new person.
He may look like a clueless guy while he’s wearing glasses but when he takes them off, he evolves into a whole new person. And we know that he does that during competitions, right? So, when he’s competing it is as cold as ice. That all explains why the name of the anime is Yuri!!! On Ice. HAHA.

Junichi Suwabe (Viktor’s Japanese Voice Actor)
Junichi Suwabe is Viktor’s Voice Actor. He’s a Japanese voice actor who’s mostly known for voice acting in Archer, EraserHead, Aizawa and Abbacchio. He even did the voice acting for Ryomen Sukuna. Now, I get it. His voice is super cool and that’s why he does the voice acting for cool characters. He has done the voice acting for 348+ anime characters. Isn’t that nearly unbelievable?
Jerry Jewell (Viktor’s English Voice Actor)
Jerry Jewell is the English voice actor of Viktor. He’s known for his voice acting for Lyon Bastia, Russia, and Kyo Sohma. He has done the voice acting for almost 175+ characters of anime. WOOH! Thinking about the fact that he did voice acting of almost 175+ anime characters makes him an anime fan for sure, right?
Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuri’s Japanese Voice Actor)
Toshiyuki Toyonaga is Yuri’s Japanese voice actor. He’s known for his voice acting for Mikado Ryugamine, Yuri Katsuki, and Junichiro. He’s done voice acting for almost 77+ anime characters. He looks pretty good like the character he’s given to do voice acting for, right?
Josh Grelle (Yuri’s English Voice Actor)
Josh Grelle is another one of the amazing voice actors. He’s done voicing many characters including Zen Wisteria from Snow White with Red Hair, Kyohei Takano from the Wallflower and a lot more.
