That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is based on the isekai light novel written by Fuse. When the anime was released in October 2018, it soon picked up a huge fan base due to the brilliant characters and world building themes. It really hit a lot of the popular tropes and appealed to a large number of fans.
In the first season, we are introduced to Satoru Mikami, a 39-year-old salary man who is content with his quiet, isolated life. Whilst chatting with a colleague, Satoru is attacked and dies but awakens in a new world as a slime; lowest of the low when it comes to monster rankings in that world!

Release Date

There has been no official release date for Season 3 yet. However, at the end of Season 2 a film was announced, and it is predicted that this will be released in Autumn 2022. As it is unlikely that Season 3 will arrive before the film release, it would be reasonable to predict that we might see season 3 in the summer of 2023.
Predicted Cast
Miho Okasaki - Rimuru Tempest

Miho Okasaki provides the voice for Rimuru Tempest, the cute as heck protagonist. Miho debuted in 2017 as a voice actor as background voices before moving on to main characters with her role as Rimuru. She also provides the voices for Miku Nishio in Ongaku Shojo and Mao in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated. She also sang ‘Pedals’ which was the second ending song for The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated.
Megumi Tayoguchi - Great Sage/Raphael

Providing the voice of Great Sage/Raphael is Megumi Tayoguchi a popular voice actor who has also provided voices for Ruka Rengoku in Demon Slayer, Tora in My Roommate is a Cat and Ghislaine Dedoldia in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Great Sage was one of the first unique skills Rimuru gained and served him well with advice. Great Sage evolved into Raphael when Rimuru gained the Demon Lord status, a great tactician who does not always tell Rimuru in advance what they are about to do! Megumi succeeds in providing a voice which is both knowledgeable and playful!
Makoto Furukawa – Benimaru

Makoto Furakawa is a popular voice actor and singer who provides the voice for Benimaru. He is also known for providing the voices for Saitama in One Punch Man, Yutaro Kindaichi in Haikyuu!! and Hiroto Suwa in Orange.
Benimaru is Rimuru’s Commander in Chief and serves loyally in the Kingdom of Tempest. Originally an ogre, he evolved to a Kijin and then to a Fair Oni alongside his master’s transformation to Demon Lord. Makoto provides a voice that has transformed from the hot-headed ogre to the calm, carefree and battle-skilled Benimaru of the later episodes.
Takuya Eguchi – Souei

Another popular voice actor and singer,Takuya Eguchi provides the voice for Souei, a loyal ninja to Rimuru. He is also known for providing the voices of Yuuji Terushima in Haikyuu!!, Kazuya Kujo in Gosick and William Twining in Devils and Realist.
Souei is another of the ogres who became loyal to Rimuru after he was named. He is, however, vastly different to his friend Benimaru and is described as having Delusions of Grandeur, one being that it is easy to get women to fall in love with you. To be fair, he may have a point – look at the man! Takuya does a fantastic job of making Souei sound confident, slightly arrogant at times and somewhat creepy when annoyed!
Sayaka Senbongi – Shuna

Sayaka Senbongi is the voice behind Shuna, the gentle ogre princess. She is also known for providing the voices for Haba Yuiri in Strike the Blood, Mariella in Black Clover and Nifa in Attack on Titan.
Shuna is the sister to Benimaru and has the regal bearing of the princess she was raised to be. She is a gentle, caring person who acts as a close aide to Rimuru. She is skilled at weaving and likes to fight with Shion over Rimuru when he is in his slime form. Although she presents as a gentle person, both Rimuru and Benimaru fear her when she is angry! Sayaka’s gentle voice is perfect for the role of Shuna.
M.A.O – Shion

M.A.O (also known as Mao Ichimichi) is the voice actor behind Shion, a former ogre who acts as Rimuru’s Personal Secretary. M.A.O is also known for providing the voices for Saki Hanakago in Platinum End, Yuu Sumio in Alice in Deadly School and Kaharu Hondoumachi in Id: Invaded.
Shion was also an ogre before she was named by Rimuru and following her defeat in battle, she was resurrected into a Wicked Oni during Rimuru’s rise to Demon Lord. Shion has her heart in the right place and is unconditionally loyal to Rimuru, but she is also clumsy and not very bright! She is in love with Rimuru and her idea of problem solving usually involves hitting things with her sword! M.A.O does a fantastic job providing the voice of Shion.
Houchuu Ootsuka – Hakurou

Houchuu Ootsuka is the voice behind Hakurou, the Kijin sword master. He also provides the voices for Tatsugoro in Restaurant to Another World, Biscuit Oliva in Boli Hanma and Boss in The Way of the Househusband.
Hakurou is a middle aged character and master swordsman who has an aura of someone who has been there and seen it all. A man in his prime is usually calm unless someone makes the mistake of calling him an old man. When that happens, a slight draw of his sword and a hard stare will put them in their place! Houchuu uses his voice acting skills to portray a man who is wise but will take no nonsense from anyone!
Tomoaki Maeno - Veldora Tempest

Tomoaki Maeno is the voice behind the dragon, Veldora Tempest. He also provides the voices for Shafrial Ren in Strike the Blood, Makoto Shimada in Haikyuu!! and Konro Sagamiya in Fire Force.
As Veldora only has a spirit body, he shaped one of Rimuru’s clones to provide a human body for himself. He is a fairly laid back, chilled character but has an excitable edge. He loves manga, calling them sacred texts (who can argue with that?). However, he is prideful (he is a dragon after all) and Tomoaki does an excellent job of making Veldora come across as both a powerful dragon and an easily excitable human.
Kanehira Yamamoto – Rigurd

Kanehira Yamamoto is the voice behind the character of Rigurd. He is also known for his roles as Shinji in Altered Carbon: Resleeved, Baron Ronald Rollinson in Moriarty The Patriot and Yakov Nikitin in Dr Stone.
Rigurd holds the privilege of being the first to be named by Rimuru and he evolved from a goblin to a hobgoblin. He holds the rank of Prime Minister of the Jura Tempest Federation and has a love of feasts and festivals (who doesn’t?). Rigurd has a very static nature which is put across well by Kanehira who manages to show both Rigurd’s stoic side but also his excitement when he is around Rimuru.
Asuna Tomari – Gobta

Asuna Tomari provides the voice for Gobta the Goblin Rider Captain. She is also responsible for the voices behind Young Kyo Soma in Fruits Basket and the Witch Child in the Duke of Death and His Maid.
Using female voice actors for younger male characters is a norm and Asuna does a fantastic job bringing the young Gobta to life. At the beginning, he was one of my least favourite characters and was irritating, but this is also a credit to the actress as she played his airhead foolish character to perfection!
Gobta was amongst the first group to be given names by Rimuru and even after evolving into a hobgoblin, still looks like a young goblin. However, he is a student of Hakurou and able to summon his own Star Wolf. People who mistake him for a weakling, learn the hard way that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Chikahiro Kobayashi – Ranga

Chikahiro Kobayashi is the voice behind Ranga, the Tempest Star Wolf. He is also responsible for providing the voices for Ryugo Sakuma in Megalo Box, Legoshi in Beast Stars and Clark Ibrahim in Great Pretender.
Ranga began his story as a dire wolf but following defeat at the hands of Rimuru and gaining a name, he evolved until he reached the rank of Tempest Star Wolf. Ranga is completely loyal to Rimuru and Chikahiro uses his voice skills to show Ranga as a loyal dog-like character around Rimuru but also blunt and scary towards outsiders.
Jun Fukuyama – Gabiru

Jun Fukuyama is the voice behind Gabiru, the Dragonewt. He is also responsible for the voices of amazing characters in popular animes such as Koro-sensei in Assassination Classroom, King in Seven Deadly Sins and Hermes in Sekko Boys. Gabiru is far different from some of his other roles, and it shows how versatile his voice acting is!
Gabiru (istg I am trying extremely hard to be nice about this character!) is annoying! He evolved from an annoying lizardman to an equally annoying Dragonewt. He has an ego the size of Mount Everest and has shown himself to be easily manipulated in the past. Jun does an amazing job of showing the egotistic side of Gabiru.
Rina Hidaka - Milim Nava

Rina Hidaka is the voice behind Milim Nava, a Demon Lord and all-round best girl! She is also behind the voices of Yomai Ren in Komi Can’t Communicate, Akatsuki Nagisa in Strike The Blood and Silica/Keiko Ayano in Sword Art Online.
Milim Nava is a Dragonoid and holds the second seat Demon Lord position. She is also known as the Destroyer. To be fair to her, all she is trying to do is stave off her boredom and if things need to be destroyed to do that, so be it! Although she appears childish and temperamental, she knows what she is doing as it means people underestimate her. Clayman learned that she is a force to be reckoned with the hard way!
Milim really likes Rimuru and calls him her bestie. Rina does an amazing job of portraying Milim’s carefree, childlike exterior as well as her steely Demon Lord persona when people she cares about are threatened.
Taro Yamaguchi – Geld

Taro Yamaguchi provides the voice for Geld, former enemy and now friend to Rimuru. He is also responsible for the voices of Matsuzaki Sensei in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, Tanin in High School DxD and Dobon in One Piece.
Geld is a High Orc who Rimuru named after his father following their battle. Geld is hardworking and serious in nature as he is always trying to make amends for his past faults. However, he is a gentle giant when it comes to children and is often seen carrying a small goblin girl around showing a strong paternal side to his character. Taro balances the serious and gentle side to Geld amazingly in his voice.
Takahiro Sakurai – Diablo

Takahiro Sakurai provides the voice for Diablo, a Demon Peer. He also provides the voices for Suguru Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen, Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer and Sting Eucliffe in Fairy Tail.
Diablo was summoned by Rimuru who renamed him Diablo causing his evolution to Demon Peer. Diablo has a whimsical character and is completely loyal to Rimuru. He will punish anyone who insults or upsets his master, unless forbidden from doing so by Rimuru himself. He follows orders to the letter! Takahiro uses his skills to bring to life a character who is both charming and terrifying in equal measure.
Takehito Koyasu – Clayman

Takehito Koyasu provided the voice of Demon Lord Clayman until his final meeting with Rimuru. He is also responsible for the voices of Dio Brando in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures, Zeke Jaeger in Attack on Titan and Kannazuki Kyouhei in Date A Live.
Even amongst demons, Clayman was considered an awful person, using his powers to turn people into puppets to serve his whims. He was capable of kindness towards those he liked, and he’s loyal to his superior to the very end. His biggest mistake was underestimating Milim, and for that, he paid a hard price. Takehito Koyasu showed both the cruel and loyal sides of Clayman perfectly, bringing to life a character it was hard to feel sorry for in the end.
Predicted Plot

The first two seasons covered 6 volumes of the light novel and there is plenty of material remaining for further seasons. It would be logical to predict that season 3 will pick up where season 2 finished, with the defeat of Demon Lord Clayman, a man few people will miss! Season 2 showed him using his powers to try and make a puppet out of another Demon Lord, and he chose Demon Lord Milim at that. Turns out Clayman was not as smart as he thought he was!
He tried to manipulate best girl Milim (and I will hear no argument on her best girl status!) and it all went wrong from that point on for him. Suffering defeat at the hands of Rimuru, Clayman paid for his devious nature, and we are set for season 3.
The loss of Clayman will have consequences for others. I would predict that the Holy Empire of Ruberios will realise that they messed with the wrong slime when they joined the attack on the Kingdom of Tempest and will need to build some bridges.

With Rimuru’s love of negotiation, it would be sensible to assume that Hinata Sakaguchi who led the attacks will try to negotiate a political settlement to prevent war. Rimuru and his friends like a good festival so the huge festival and battle tournament would be a safe prediction to make.
Personally, I would predict Rimuru carrying on his undefeatable fighting skills, more female characters falling in love with him, and repeated shouts from the Lizardmen saying “Gabiru! Gabiru!” every time their leader does everything. Finally, I would predict more brooding good looks from Souei (yeah I like a mysterious, brooding man!)

Comment Down Below

That Time I Was Reincarnated as a Slime is a favourite of mine, so it’s kinda hard to be critical. The characters are written well, and the storylines make you want to keep watching for more. Personally, I am looking forward to both the upcoming film and Season 3.
If I had to find a critique, I suppose it would be on the overpowered nature of Rimuru and his ability to suddenly gain skills when needed making fights predictable. However, this one minor issue falls away when compared to the amazing characters whom you cannot help but love and, in some cases, grind your teeth at in annoyance. For me, this is the sign of a fantastic anime which I will continue to love and enjoy!
