Manhwa Storyline:

Colorless girl is a Korean comic that was launched in 2014, simply put, it is a short story of a girl intent on committing suicide and a guy who wants to be her friend. The manga is written and illustrated by Lame and it is set in a school.

The lead character, Jinah, is a depressed young girl living a terribly lonely life. She has no friends in school except the pest-like young man named Eunwoo who always hangs around her. Eunwoo cares deeply for her and notices her loneliness, he is scared of her taking her own life and decides to help her. The positivity from Eunwoo is deeply touching and it is just unfortunate that we didn’t get to see more of this duo due to the length of the manhwa.

Manhwa Storyline:

This manhwa cuts across several genres, it features romance, comedy, slice of life and lots of drama. The webtoon began in 2013 and ended in 2014, and dare I say that it is an amazing roller-coaster of emotions. It follows the story of two young people who have had their hearts shattered, however fate gives them another chance of companionship.

Shall we have dinner tonight is very realistic and it is sure to move you to tears. Do Hee Woo and Hae Gyun are two lonely folks who always end up in the same restaurant but never seem to see each other. Their luck is about to change when they notice each other on one fateful day… will this lead to the mending of their hearts or are they in for more troubles?

Manhwa Storyline:

Orange is quite similar to the previous manhwa/manhua in this list, being that the male character saves the female from ending her life. It is a Chinese comic that was launched in 2006, there is a psychological feel to the story and its take on romance is the stand out for the manhua.

If sad stories bordering on suicide get you upset, then its best that you avoid this one. The manhua is written by Benjamin and illustrated by Weidong Chen, as a slice of life, it explores the daily sad life of the lonely Orange and how she interacts with Dashu, who has appeared as a knight in shining armour for her.

Manhwa Storyline:

The manhwa is also known as Amanza, it focuses on the loneliness that comes with a terminal illness. The series focuses on a lot of mature themes and is quite realistic, the art is great and the plot is even better. It is written by Bo Tang Kim.

Big See has a complex plot, we get to see a lot of events happen in another world. Apart from the physical pain of the terminal illness, we are exposed to the emotional dilemma that his loved ones face, knowing that his life is coming to an end. This is a sad story that stands out among other sad stories, and it leaves you wondering how life would have been if we all knew our death dates.

Manhwa Storyline:

 This 2018 manhua excels in its diverse use of characters, there is the thief, the orphans, the mentally ill and all others. The manga has very dark themes bordering on self-harm and suicide so it’s easy to see how loneliness is one of the major themes used to push the plot forward.

The manhua is very fast paced, the art style is kind of messy and drawn out but that’s what makes it unique and beautiful. The story centres on a thief who breaks into the house of a man trying to commit suicide. He saves the man and the event keeps repeating itself for days until the thief decides to move it with the suicidal man to ensure he doesn’t kill himself.

Manhwa Storyline:

Evngarion tells a spectacular tale of love in this manhwa that is sure to shatter hearts. Almost everyone has been heartbroken, and we all deal with it in different ways. The loneliness that comes from a failed relationship is the main topic of this webtoon, and it is a joy to read to read Please! Mr Bear’s philosophical take on love.

This 2009 manhwa is a hidden gem and certainly worth your time, it is a Doujinshi and so it is less popular, however, it is equally as good as any lonely themed manhwa with cool characters.

This story is an absolute masterpiece, it ticks all the right boxes for a romantic drama. Life throws way too much at our lead characters and everywhere they turn, there is a tragedy lying ahead. Joon Young has lived a difficult life even as a child, as he gets harassed by several adults.

His life gets a moment of goodness when he meets the blind Hae In, they bond and fall in love but she disappears without warning. Years later, when they reunite, the girl is now in a relationship with a rich and influential man… sadly, this doesn’t bode well for Joon Young.

Also known as Honey blood, the manhwa ran from 2014 to 2015 and it is written and illustrated by Na Rae Lee. This is a sweet love story between the daughter of a shaman and a vampire, it does explore mature themes such as bullying and self-harm, however it does this within a safe boundary.

The plot is great, the art is unique and it provides a healthy twist to the usual vampire stories. The characters all have so much depth and the character development is magnificent.

Manhwa Storyline:

A Chinese comic that explores mature themes in a bid to portray the effects of loneliness, it features boy’s love, master-servant relationship, unrequited love, violence, physical and abuse.

The blind concubine’s cat sets the story in motion, and though it ended in tragedy, it is a beautiful romance story. This short manhua is worth your tears, the characters are easily lovable, it is written and illustrated by Xi Ni.

Manhwa Storyline:

Suicide boy is a dark comedy manhwa that portrays mental illness, poverty, bullying, and suicide. The manhwa began in 2017, if you are very sensitive then please avoid this series. Authored by Park Gee, the art is super beautiful.

The manhwa is realistic to the topics it discusses. Depression and anxiety are well explored, and the main character thinks of suicide daily. On the positive side, Lee Hoon has some people around him, and it’s exciting to see if he will overcome his challenges with their help.
