Being a time traveller would probably be cool. In Doomed to be a King, the time travelling MC travels to another world. He’s not the bravest MC out there so he is at a disadvantage from the start.

Being a coward does allow for a massive character development storyline, which in the story is slow building. After he climbs up a mountain, our MC declares himself King of the Mountain and grows from being nothing to the King of one of the most advanced kingdoms in the world.

Not bad for a time travelling wimp!

Kim Rok Soo is a high school student who is transported into a novel, The Birth of a Hero, after he falls asleep reading about the adventures of the hero, Choi Chan, also transported to a new world in the novel; talk about coincidence!!

In Trash of the Counts Family, Kim is reborn as the worst character in the story, a character named Cale, who likes to get drunk and throw bottles at people. So, yep he is a loser, despised by everyone including the Count’s family.

This is not the best start to his new life in a world full of monsters, dragons and magic, especially as he arrives in the story just before his character is beaten badly by Choi Chan.  Cale must find a way to stop this, set Choi Chan on the right path and try to find a way out of the war only he knows is coming.

Prince Davey is a weakling of a character and rules over a kingdom which is seen to be pointless and useless.  One day, he falls into a coma and his soul travels to a temple, where the souls of heroes gather and train.

After one thousand years of training at the temple, Prince Davey returns as a maxed-out hero Prince.  I do not say this lightly, our hero is now an expert in assignation, necromancy, an expert swordsman and an expert blacksmith.

This is a web novel which is rated extremely highly in online reviews. It follows the story of Cheng Yan, who is transported to another world as Roland, the 4th Prince of the Kingdom. The kingdom is similar in appearance to the idea of Medieval Europe.

In the Kingdom, where are witches, seen by the everyday folk to be harbingers of death and destruction. As a result, witches are feared, hunted and (unfortunately for them) put to death.

Our hero, Roland, has different views on the situation, with him being a modern man and he sees that the witches could be a benefit to society. Using his knowledge of modern technology and the magic powers of the witches, he is able to raise his kingdom to new levels of wealth and advancement.

Jeong Dawoon awakens in a game where he will have to fight to survive a dungeon filled with monsters and traps. The rules to this deadly game are explained to the players by a rabbit in a tuxedo who has high levels of sarcasm and low levels of compassion. This rabbit is not the fluffy, cute type!

Dawoon is in a bad situation as he has no skills. He plans to survive by tagging along with stronger players – smart! However, when he falls into a trap just before the boss stage, he is left for dead. A glitch in the system means he not only stays alive, but gains new skills and a helpful ground squirrel.

As rules no longer apply to him, Dawoon can grind the dungeon and gain more and more skills, building himself a kingdom within the dungeon, much to the disgust of the resident  evil rabbit who does everything it can to make Dawoon’s life hard.

Hail The King

Kingdom Building is a very popular genre for Manhwa, as with other forms of manga and the stories are varied. Although they all focus on a character building themselves from nothing, there are differing underlying themes from war, revenge and some romance. There is really something for everyone so I recommend giving Kingdom Building Manhwa a try!

  1. this list is pure trash…why? because the ratings make no sense, i’ve read all of these and based on the quality, this list is just a mishmash where terrible ones have the same rating as really good ones… whoever made this list has no idea what they are doing.

  2. Trash of the Count’s Family deserves much more love than the description provided… to top it off the description is not 100 percent accurate…
