Yuki and her friend, Zero Kiryu, serve as guardians to keep the two classes of day and night separate. As the days go on, Yuki begins to learn that the school isn’t all that it seems as she uncovers the secrets of her savior Kaname Kuran for all those years ago, Zero, and her past.

This oldie of a manga is recommended by all the middle schoolers who loved a good Twilight film or the Vampire Diaries series. So if the supernatural is your type of reading then this might be it for you.

Luckily, Haruka goes along with the fake relationship leaving Mashiko with two questions: Why can everyone see Haruko if she died five years ago? And what exactly is Haruko now? We recommend this Japanese comic if you’re into mystery, horror, and the supernatural.

The Phantomhive Estate is no stranger to the way Victorian England’s wealthiest has a full staff headed by a butler. Count Ciel Phantomhive is a child entrepreneur of a well known toy company with a butler named Sebastian.

Little does Ciel know, while Sebastian is keen on perfectionism—fixing the mistakes of workers, serving courses, and maintaining an elegant air, this steward has a sinister side. Ciel’s butler is a demon bound to him by contract as a servant and protector in exchange for the boy’s soul.

This is another oldie worth the recommendation as it has acquired quite the fanbase and doesn’t disappoint it’s readers.

We’re sure you’ve seen lots of zombie related tv shows on Netflix and Hulu but have you read this manga? It’s a small Japanese comic that’s definitely worth the read as you follow a manga artist who witnesses the beginning outbreak of a zombie apocalypse in Tokyo, Japan.

While he might pass as just a manga artist, he’s sure of at least two things: that he’s destined to save his beloved Tokyo and that he has a firearm which is never heard of in all of Japan! You won’t want to pass this manga up if you’re looking for a thrill.

You may remember this title from its short time airing on Toonami or you’ve seen it on a high school bookshelf somewhere waiting to be read like a good recommendation that it is. This Japanese comic follows two brothers, Rin and Yukio, who are being raised by a Priest.

Rin encounters a possessed young boy who awakens a mysterious ability from within him that breathes forth blue flames which lead him to uncover the shocking truth that he’s the son of Satan. But apparently, all along Yuko knew?!

With the truth out, Rin isn’t protected by the church but still wishes to cling to his humanity so he joins the True Cross Order as an exorcist and attends the True Cross Academy to become a great exorcist, but as the son of the organization’s sworn enemy, can he do it?

It’s no wonder Yuriko is hoping love will spark and romance will begin when she has a run-in with her old colleague, Horita Tomotsugu. When they met, Horita’s dream was to start a band with Yuriko, well before he started his boring life as an office worker that is.

The spark doesn’t go away because his meeting with Yuriko leads him back to this lost dream. These two lovebirds’ story is only one of the many tales of Surbarashii Sekai, this manga is worth the read with stories that unfold the cold hard truths of everyday life.

Looking for an action-comedy based manga? This one’s for you! In Ente Isla, the Demon King, Satan is bested by humanity’s warrior, Hero Emilia. Satan flees with Alciel—his demon general, and is transported to Japan where they have no magical abilities as basic humans.

In the meantime, Satan gets a part-time job as a fast-food worker in an effort to adapt and blend into this modern society as he and his companion try to pass as ordinary Japanese civilians. And as luck would have it, Emilia is in Japan too, passing as an ordinary human!

While Satan and Alciel plan to take over this new world, Emilia looks to stop them, but there are always other enemies no matter the timeline. This Japanese comic is worth the read with just enough action, lots of laughs, and story development as you trail Satan navigating his job, relationships, managing a home, all while plotting world domination.

Emma becomes curious as to where the kids go and what’s beyond the confines of their isolated orphanage. The thing is there’s one rule at the orphanage: the children are not allowed to explore beyond the wall that separates them from the rest of society.

After being told of society’s dangers and learning the secrets of what happens to kids after the age of twelve, these three kids race against their birthday clocks as they aim to outsmart Mama and get out of the orphanage before they suffer a terrible fate. This is a manga worth reading!

After his new transformation, Akira vows to use his new dark powers in the fight to defeat demons and prevent their plans to conquer the earth. If you’re looking for action, sci-fi manga with a little horror then this is a must read for you.

At first glance this manga might seem a little complicated between dealing with Curses, Jujutsu sorcerers, and Itadori Yuuji whose supernatural strength makes him more than your average high schooler when he’s able to consume a demon’s finger and not be possessed by Sukuna.

After witnessing his ability to detain Sukuna, Jujutsu High School teacher Gojo Satoru presents him with the alternative to collect all the remaining fingers as a means to keep him from immediate execution.

Itadori accepts the offer and ends up enrolling at Jujutsu High School as a Sorcerer where he makes a few friends and befalls countless harsh battles taking on Cursed Spirits in search of the fingers all the while a greater danger lurks in the shadows.

If you’re looking for a sci fi, action filled manga? Then you’re reading the right Japanese comic. We meet the youthful pickpocket named Elwood Shepherd who is from a small town surrounding what’s known as the wasteland.

In this world, there’s this artifact known as the twelve rings of death which have the power to create a potion with the power to give its manufacturer immortality and raise the dead! They call it, “Zombie Powder”.

It just so happens, Elwood runs into a criminal named Akutabi who’s searching for the rings, he also comes in contact with his partner, a skilled gunman, named C.T. Smith. Now, Elwood is having the adventure of a lifetime accompanying these two while hoping to save his sister.

While this might start off as a sad manga that’s a bit devastating, the story is great and the characters are very human, making them relatable and realistic. Ishida Shoya was the mastermind behind the bullying that Nishimiya Shoko received in grade school for being deaf.

That all changes when Shoko is transferred to a new school and Shoyo finds himself being bullied after having been the bully for so long. As he grows older he looks to set things right after his wrongful actions toward Shoko, and to confront his old classmates that terrorized him.

This lovely little manga tackles problems like depression, bullying, isolation, and even suicide. It’s a recommended manga if you’re looking for a good story and heavy topics.

21. Fruits Baskets

If your tragic accident resulted in you becoming an orphan, where would you go? Well, Tohru Honda turns to a tent for shelter! It just so happens that this high schooler pitches her tent on a private property that belongs to the Sohma clan, a family name she knows from school.

After they learn of her situation, they welcome her with open arms, but they have a strange secret they didn’t tell her about, whenever they’re hugged by someone of the opposite sex they transform into animals from the Chines Zodiac sign.

Tohru has to help keep her new friends—Kyou and Yuki Soma’s secret from the rest of her classmates and her own friends. Hopefully, Tohru has the ability to provide a cure that’ll save Sohma from this curse. If you want to know if she does, we recommend reading the manga for that spoiler.

Yoshimori and Tokine are neighbors with families that have an age-old feud, but the two of them are diligent in working together as guardians by night. Meanwhile, Yoshimori battles a sugar addiction and puts up with his stern grandfather by day, while Tokine spends her days as a normal school girl.

These two junior high students are adamant in their nightly mission to capture and dispel Ayakashi while also testing their strengths against one another and seeking to outdo the next, inspired by their family feud. We highly recommend this manga if you’re looking for a nice story!

We’re sure you’ve heard of Dragon Ball Super, as it’s the latest adaptation, but how much do you know about its humble beginnings as a manga? This manga follows the early childhood of Goku, a money-tailed kid roaming the land but that all changes when he meets Bulma!

At the time, Bulma is on the global hunt for the seven Dragon Balls that have the power to summon a dragon, Shenron, that has the capabilities of granting a wish. Of course, Bulma isn’t the only one looking for these mystical orbs, and having Goku by her side proves to be helpful.

This is a manga worth reading if you want to learn about Goku’s beginning adventures with original casting, his first battles, and how he became known as the strongest adversary on planet earth.

18. Fullmetal Alchemist

The young alchemists only wanted to revive their mother but as a result, Edward lost an arm and a leg, and his brother Alphonse lost his entire body. After a visit from Col Mustang, the boys make it their business to become a State Alchemist in an effort to gain what they’ve lost.

The boys end up in search of a Philosopher Stone that is said to have the power to revive their lost body parts. But in their pursuit, they learn a dark secret about the stone that alters their goals. If you don’t know of the Brotherhood debut manga then it’s worth reading.

17. Haikyuu!!

This sports manga follows the shrimp Hinata Shouyou on his journey to become the Ace on Karasuno Volleyball Team and soar on the court, spiking hit after hit like his idol the Little Giant.

That doesn’t go as easily for Hinata when he learns that the King of the Court, Kageyama Tobio, the victor in his previous junior high match, turns out to be his teammate. Hinata has to learn to work past his weaknesses and get along with the quiet, calculating Kageyama.

This Japanese comic is a must read as you get to know the characters of Karasuno’s volleyball team and various other high school volleyball teams as they duke it out match by match, hoping to progress and compete in the Spring Tournament.

16. Inuyasha

In this classic manga, Kagome is a regular high school student whose life is turned upside down. She falls into her family well and is transported back into Feudal Japan where she quickly becomes accustomed to demons and a spherical marble known as the Shikon Jewel.

After her first run-in with a demon, she makes the acquaintance of a half breed dog demon named Inuyasha who, like every other demon, wants the Shikon Jewel but a series of unfortunate events lead to the jewel being shattered, and the pair have to become a team.

Kagome has sacred powers that allow her to find the sacred jewel shards and Inuyasha has the strength to stop demons that have attained them. They make friends along the way and together must take down the notorious Naraku who’s behind the evils pertaining to the jewel shards.

It starts off with a young high schooler who’s excited about his date with the intense Rize, however, this date goes sour as his beautiful date turns out to be a cannibalistic night dweller known as a ghoul. Ken Kaneki’s life is narrowly spared that night.

He wakes up in the hospital as a half ghoul after his date from hades. For a short period of time, he lives his days fighting his hunger for human flesh as he seeks to hold on to humanity. He nearly gives in to his desire until he stumbles upon a coffee shop.

Kaneki meets ghouls who supplement their man eating desires with special coffee and it’s as if for the first time in a while he’s found peace. Little does he know this peace is about to be disrupted by the CCG, the ghouls’ number one adversaries. This dark manga is highly recommended.

Ginko is a Mushishi that is enthralled with the study of mushi—which is known as the base of all life. While this organism surpasses words like good or evil it can shift into anything and copy its attributes so long as it’s off the natural world.

That means disease, plants, even rainbows can be replicated by mushi and Ginko wants to find out why, so much so that he’s always on a goose chase in search of answers. This fantasy-based mystery manga is a good recommendation for anyone willing to read.

If you’re expecting a manga that’ll bring the heat then you’re reading the right one. This Japanese comic takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after an event known as the Great Cataclysm–when the world was consumed in a great flame leaving most of it uninhabitable.

This Japanese comic is worth it with all the sci-fi and action poured into the life of a young man whose unfortunate events may have saved him from becoming a brain-eating zombie.

In this manga the characters experience no difference when a fraction of humanity is wiped out by a virus that hardens the skin and ravishes on your internal organs. Where there’s always chaos there is someone looking to use it to their advantage like the Propater.

The Propater ceases the United Nations and looks to conquer, so it’s no wonder they raid an old research center where they find two kids immune to the virus, thankfully they get away. And years later the boy has become the largest kingpin in South America.

Still looking for revenge he spots his son some cash and bands together with the resistance known as the Nomad and looks to take down the Propater. This must read manga follows various subplots on human improvement, terrorism, struggling developing countries, and more!

10. Goodnight Punpun

This manga is worth reading as it tackles numerous life topics through the MC named Punpun! This young elementary student has anything but a normal life for a youth who’s a decent kid that amends his schoolwork, making friends, and completing his homework.

Meanwhile, he’s no stranger to teachers overreacting and oddly enough playing games like hide-and–seek, considering that his Dad has a restraining order due to domestic abuse charges. Sadly, all he’s left with is his lazy uncle.

But then, Punpun doesn’t let any of this stop him from figuring out how to navigate his jumble of dreams, figuring out what love is like and what goes beyond that, religion, and what it means to grow up. If you’re looking for more than a good read, this manga is worth it!

We’re pretty sure you’ve heard of this classic manga once in your day. It’s known for its plot about the God of Death, Ryuk, who drops his book called Death Note into the human world for fun. It just so happens that in Japan, high schooler Yagami Light finds it!

He reads its admonition that: whomever’s name is written in the notebook will die. Well, Light thinks of it as a joke and dares to write the name of a criminal in it only for him to wind up dead after he’d written his name.

After realizing the power of Death Note, Light operates under the pen name Kira, he begins his purge of wrongful individuals as a means to ending crime, thereby creating a perfect society! To find out whether or not Light accomplishes this you’ve got to read this recommendation.

You have two swordsmen; Shinmen Takezou and Matahachi Honiden join the Toyotomi army hoping to make a name for themselves and to find something beyond their mundane life in sixteenth century Japan.

Only after the army’s defeat in the Battle of Sekigahara, the two narrowly escaped with their lives. The two are separated and Shinmen goes home to tell the village of Matahachi’s survival only to find that he’s a wanted criminal for the supposed death of Matahachi.

With his violent past to thank for these false acquisitions, Shinmen ends up being captured and is hung from a tree, but is saved by a monk named Takuan Soho and given a new name; Musashi Miyamoto. This manga is full of action and adventure and is worth a read for a classic.

7. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures

This impeccable manga is a must read that follows the lineage of Jonathan Joestar! In the first manga series, you have Jonathan as a wealthy lad who takes pride in being a gentleman and living an easy life. Those days are soon long gone when Dio Brando makes his entrance.

Whereas Jonathan hails from Liverpool, Dio is from London and winds up being adopted by Jonathan’s father due to an unpaid debt he owed Dio’s, old man. While Jonathan accepts him with open arms, Dio has plans to claim the family fortune.

After realizing Dio’s plans, Jonathan does everything in his will to stop him and thus begins the ongoing fight of Jonathan and his grandsons in the generations to come on their quest to stop the infamous Dio!

His wish is granted thanks to the number one hero who takes him under his wing and begins to train him rigorously. Midoriya develops All Might’s quirk All for One and ends up enrolling at UA High in Class 1-A where he meets his new classmates who have various quirks.

Midoriya soon learns that becoming a superhero isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. He has to keep up with academics, undergo many physical tests and courses to develop his quirk, compete in tournaments, take down low level villains, and it doesn’t stop there for him or his classmates.

This is a best selling manga that if you ask any veteran manga reader they’ll tell you it’s a must read when it comes down to Japanese comics. It follows the continuation of Naruto’s humble beginnings as a young boy with a nine tailed fox spirit who was an outcast whose dream is to be Hokage.

He uncovers new powers with the help of his mentor and elders alike while defeating powerful foes that threaten the Hidden Leaf Village in the hopes of gaining new intel and leads so that he can save his childhood best friend, Sasuke, from being the village he hopes to one day lead’s worst enemy.

This manga is full of characters for everyone with unique powers known as jutsu that comes from their ability to store and utilize chakra. Each character has a unique background story you can cling to and the MCs are known for their making their mark in the manga world.

This is a manga for the ages! Guts had a very memorable birth beneath the tree where his mother’s lifeless body hung. Not only did he have a horrible upbringing but he spent his adult years fighting fearlessly, in order to build up his strength against the worst of the worst.

Everything is going smoothly for good ole Guts until he meets the leader of the Band of Hawk named Griffith. He loses to Griffith and ends up joining his assembly of men, where he finds a sense of friendship and home even.

Guts then takes part in many wars, accomplishing numerous victories under Griffith who’s being changed by these feats. This results in Guts struggling to either protect his comrades or lose his sanity to his past. The matter is which fight will he take up?

3. Uzumaki

This horrifically good manga is worth the read, known for it’s gratifying psychological thrill! It tells the story of a small Japanese town known as Kurozu-cho that starts off normal until it’s residents become overly infatuated with anything resembling a spiral shape.

Kirie Goshima is heading to the train station to meet up with her boyfriend Shuuichi Saito when she finds his father staring at a snail shell. She informs him of the odd incident and Shuuichi responds that his Dad had been showing odd behavior lately.

Shuuichi expresses his feelings of wanting to leave Kurozu with Kirie due to the town’s increasing obsession with spirals as it begins to send the town into a maddening spiral of countless deadly events, including Shuuichi’s father.

2. Attack On Titan

The superb plot of this jarring manga broke the internet! So if you don’t know by now it’s a must read! In this Japanese comic humanity has been isolated from the rest of the world and is plagued by having to take down these humanoid, man-eating monsters called Titans.

Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are all living their regular lives behind the confines of the walls built to keep the Titans out. When the wall comes breaking down these three kids’ lives are changed forever as they’re relocated when they decide to join the Scout Regiment.

The training was brutal and while more friends were made, many of them also died. Eren learns a secret about himself that shocks everyone, but in the end, it results in humanity’s saving grace more than a time or two and leads to so many secrets about the walls and beyond being discovered.

With an anime whose animation is topnotch, you can only imagine how much more the manga is a must read! In the manga, you follow Tanjiro on his journey to restore his little sister, Nezuko, to find a cure that’ll transform her from a demon back into a human.

As a result, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps and goes on missions hunting down these man eating demons as he searches for the man responsible for slaughtering his family, turning Nezuko into a demon, and creating every demon that terrorizes the night, Muzan.

Along the way, Tanjiro makes trustworthy friends, befriends a doctor-like demon who seeks to help him in creating a cure for Nezuko, and undergoes continuous training from the great Hashira as they all have one goal: take down the King of Demons, Muzan.
