Hana yori dango, which means “dumplings over flowers,” is a Japanese quote that means you value substance over style.

This manga is about Mangaka Y-naga, a woman who spends most of her time working hard and sleeping very little. She is an outspoken supporter of that quote. Is there anything that can bring her out of this hellish cycle of deadlines and being utterly disconnected from the rest of humanity? There is, and that is food.

In addition to their clever banter, Y-naga and her friends’ differing perspectives on cuisine add an extra layer of humor to their outings around Tokyo. Exquisite culinary masterpieces expose friendships and lifestyle choices, proving that trying new things when you’re hungry and open to new ideas is definitely the spice of life.

Do you want to know how to spice up your life? I recommend you read “Ai ga Nakutemo Kutteyukemasu” or “Not Love But Delicious Foods Make Me So Happy” to find out more.

For this next manga, it is mainly about eating. Yet, I decided to include this on this list as it shows how significant cooking is as it affects how people eat.

Gorou Inogashira, the protagonist, is seen in this manga as he picks and eats his meals. He likes to dine at inexpensive places, and there is no food trivia in the comic.

When Gorou talks, the manga’s writers are trying to show how food can make us feel. If you’re curious about those monologues, then I recommend you read Kodoku no Gourmet.

So, here we are, with another manga about eating. Well, this manga also emphasizes the significant relationship between eating and cooking.

It all began when a mythical creature appeared near a community. To stop it from attacking, sacrificing Pepopa has come to the villager’s mind, the town’s only virgin, to keep the settlement safe. As the monster tries to devour her, she’s spat out in just a few seconds since she’s unpleasant and, among other things, has very smelly feet.

Even though Pepopa managed to survive, the villagers attempted to “fix her flavor” on her and she was brought back again to the monster. She returned to the monster, now that she was in better health.

This manga emphasizes how the smell of the food affects the eater’s appetite. What do you think? I think it is quite interesting. Read Dokunie Cooking to find out more interesting facts

Later, he created his own bar in Tokyo’s Ginza neighborhood, the Eden Hall, which is tucked away in a corner. Potential customers are said to be unable to enter Eden Hall without the host’s permission, according to rumors.

If you want to read a manga that took place in a dining bar, then this next BL manga is one of my top recommendations.

It all took place behind the closed doors of Tomoko Yamashita‘s Dining Bar as Akira usually clashes with icy stoicism.

When you’re running a busy bar or restaurant, there’s always drama. Manager Akira Koji is caught in the center of it all—struggling to retain his calm.  One of his workers makes a late-night confession to him. Torihara, a 26-year-old male employee, is not only handsome, but he is also six years younger.

This manga will tell you that cooking is not a gender role, but a role for humans to support themselves and others.

When Kouhei Inuzuka’s wife died, he was left to raise his daughter Tsumugi. Due to his lack of culinary abilities and his busy teaching schedule, he had no choice but to hang on to the convenience store that prepared meals. He accepts Kotori Iida‘s offer for dinner since he is fed up with not being able to cook a nutritious meal for his daughter.

When Kotori’s mother works long hours, the restaurant where she usually eats is frequently closed, leaving her to dine alone. After a lot of persuasion from his pupil, Kouhei stays at the restaurant with Tsumugi and cooks for Kotori.

Food, family, and the comfort food we take for granted are all explored in depth in Sweetness & Lightning.

This next manga is mainly about making meals and tasting them. This manga began when Yutaka Hozumi‘s presence is often cited as a factor in making meals taste awful and making mealtimes tedious. When he is eating lunch alone one day, a hungry kid approaches and asks for his onigiri. Yutaka is introduced to Tane and Minoru Ueda, two siblings that have a huge age gap when the boy’s older brother comes.

In a second encounter, Tane proclaims Yutaka’s rice balls as the best he’s ever tasted. Yutaka, afraid of the terrifying Minoru, promises to teach them how to cook so they won’t have to deal with him.

Yutaka and his siblings become closer, but Tane and Minoru’s closeness brings back bad memories for Yutaka, and these group dinners hide feelings.

What do you think of their journey afterwards? Know why Our Dining Table is at the top of the list.

This manga is at the top of my recommendations on my list of manga about cooking. This manga involves multiple stages of cooking and is somehow interesting.

It all began after a mad magician sank the Golden Kingdom under the surface. The kingdom’s ruler arose and offered all of his wealth to anybody who could vanquish the wizard. Because of this promise, guilds are compelled to enter the dungeon in search of the magician.

Laios’ group is slaughtered, and his sister Falin is devoured by a dragon. Even though they have lost everything, an elf healer called Marcille and a halfling thief named Chilchuck rush back into the dungeon to help Falin.

Due to the limited amount of time available, Laios recommends feeding on the dungeon’s creatures in order to gather resources. Senshi, a dwarf in the dungeon, prevents them from having their first meal.

He aids them in the safe preparation of their monster parts. After hearing about Laios’ dilemma, Senshi joins their guild and plans to roast a dragon alongside them.

Will they be successful in their quests? It could be either yes or no, right? I think it would be better to know it by yourself. Start reading Dungeon Meshi to learn more!
