10+ Donghua With Best English Subs (Recommendations)

Even though Japan is the leading producer of anime, over the years, other countries have started producing anime and China is one of them. Even though anime isn’t mainstream in China as it is in Japan, China has been trying its best and is one of the largest producers of animated shows.

The term “Donghua” stands for Chinese anime. The number of Donghua have drastically increased in the past decade. Today, we shall be looking at 11 Donghua With English Sub.

Disclaimer: Don’t watch this series if you dont like dirty jokes.

To Be Hero, is about our protagonis, Uncle, who is a toilet designer and admires girls a bit too much. One day, he gets sucked into the toilet in his own house and turns into a fat and ugly dude but it gives him superpowers to protect the Earth from aliens. It comes to a point where his own daughter is unable to recognize him.

This anime is quite short, however it is really fun and had me laughing the entire time. I would say this is a hit or miss kind of show.

10. The Daily Life of the Immortal King

This series is about our protagonist, Wang Ling, who is nearly immortal. He is 16 years old and wants to live a normal life (like any other protagonist but it never happens) however, his powers and immortality make it challenging.

Our protagonist is going to enter Senior highschool and it seems quite unlikely that he will be able to live a normal life. If you liked One Punch Man, you will definitely enjoy this as well.

This show is about our protagonist, Lan Mo, who is tomboyish and hardly anyone’s type, however, she wants to win the heart of her childhood sweetheart, Liu Yifeng. She buys a magical hairpin that changes her appearance and makes her look more beautiful and she believes that it would make Liu fall in love with her. But what she really wants is for Liu to fall in love with who she truly is, without the use of the magical powers of the hairpin.

It’s a 9 episode long anime and I really enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a light hearted rom com I would really recommend this series.

Flavours of youth is a coming of age movie that takes place in China and tells three stories, namely, “the rice noodles”, “a little fashion show” and “love in Shanghai”. I’d recommend going blind for this one.

This anime has gorgeous animation and artwork (it reminded me of “Your Name”). Flavours of Youth mainly focuses on the theme of “living in the moment”. Every protagonist is different in their own way, however, the movie doesn’t feel inconsistent. For all the slice of life lovers, you should check this one out.

Soul Land is about our protagonist, Tang San, who is a part of the Tang Sect martial art sect’s prestigious disciples and unparalleled in the art of using hidden weapons. The sect’s elders believe that he has a bright future ahead, however, Tang decides to forsake his life at the cost of obtaining the sect’s forbidden lore.

Tang is then reincarnated into a strange world where he is a blacksmith’s son (he basically gets isekai’d). He then takes part in the spirit master ceremony at the age of 6, where he gets a spirit by the name of “Blue Silver Grass”, which happens to be his mother’s spirit (the blacksmith’s wife).

The art style might not be for everyone ,however, I would really recommend this series if you’re into action and adventure.

Our protagonist, Ye Xiu, is a top tier MMORPG player of the game, “Glory”. He is also titled as “Battle God” for his skill and achievements. However, he is forced to retire and finds work at a local internet cafe.

When Glory launches its tenth server, Xiu decides to rejoin under a new name, “Grim Lord”. He uses his years of experience and skills to do exceptionally well in the game which leaves the other players questioning his identity.

This Donghua is more character centric unlike most anime from the isekai genre. If you’re an isekai geek, you should check this one out.

This Donghua starts with our protagonist Xie Lan, ascending to the Heavenly Realm for the third time after eight hundred years. He is considered a failure and a laughing stock as he has been banished two times already, the reason is sadly unknown.

While working on rebuilding his reputation, he meets a mysterious demon king, Hua Cheng, who rules ghosts and threatens the heavens. Even though it is the first time he is meeting him, he feels a deep connection with him that he can’t understand.

This is a BL story (boys’ love) which is extremely beautiful and I would urge you to check it out.

Before saying anything about this series, I would like you to know that this series has one of the best animations that I have ever seen and it was made completely by 4 animators. This story follows the fire axis who happens to be one of the five elements. He is tasked with returning a monster’s child in exchange for his family members.

This donghua has amazing fight choreography and one of the best fight scenes that I have ever seen. It is 3 episodes long, however, it doesn’t feel rushed. I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed by this series.

3. Scissor seven

Our protagonist, Wu Liuqi, has lost his memory and ends up on a small island with Bo Dai, a bird. He works odd jobs and uses his signature weapon of choice, a pair of scissors. However, Wu has a very dark past that comes to light throughout the series (I don’t want to spoil hence I won’t reveal it).

This peaceful island turns into chaos as Wu’s past haunts him and the other civilians of the island. This series has amazing OSTs, excellent fight scenes and to top it off, it has a healthy mix of comedy.

I would recommend watching the prologue before starting the main series. The dub is actually more or equally enjoyable as the sub.

Wei Wuxan, our protagonist, is the grandmaster who founded the demonic pathway or Mo Dao. He wandered the world and his rise in power only brought forth chaos and destruction. But his reign comes to an end when he is killed by his dearest friend and closest ally, Shidi.

Thirteen years later, he is reincarnated in the body of a lunatic who abandoned his clan. Later, he is reunited with an old classmate of his by the name of Lan Wangji. The two of them set out on a journey to unravel the mysteries of the spiritual world and form a strong bond with one another.

Before I start, “Link Click” is absolutely amazing. It’s about Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang, who work at a studio called “Time Photo Studio” and use their supernatural powers that let them enter pictures. They jump into pictures and make their client’s wishes come true.

But like any other anime that deals with time, they have to minimise the risk of a time paradox. While they are completing the requests assigned to them, things get personal and they use everything in their power to push personal feelings aside and focus on completing the task.

This show is an absolute masterpiece, please check it out

I’ve already watched Heaven official’s blessing and Grandmaster of demonic cultivation and both had been perfect. Right now I just got done with link Click and man I can’t express how I feel right now. I can wait four years for a season 2 if it’s gonna beat Season 1, which is a very hard thing to do.
In conclusion, if China kept on with this sort of stuff, it’s gonna beat Japan sooner or later.
