Slice of life is a very popular genre in the anime world. The concept is for the watcher to get a glimpse of a slice of the characters’ lives. In Japanese, this genre is called 日常系にちじょうけい and the literal translation is “atmosphere type“. You should be able to relate to some of their personalities and the daily problems the protagonists face. It should be representative of normal and typical life experiences we all went through, but with of course a twist.
Slice of life can be combined with every other anime genre from drama to supernatural, sci-fi, or action. Making the “twist” unique for each anime and adaptable to the preferences of the different watchers.
