Girls born in this time have Gastera elements in their blood and are trained to be fighters. Ahira is one such girl paired up with Rentaro, a high schooler and a highly skilled Civil Security member. They are tasked with preventing the destruction that is about to befall Japan. It is one of best anime filled with monstrous creatures and demons.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the plot centers around the indifferent gamer, Shuu. His unexciting life flips completely when he encounters Inori, the beautiful pop idol. With a stroke of luck, he ends up with a power where he can bring out weapons from other teenagers.

Now, it is up to him whether to return to his everyday life (like that is ever gonna happen) or move forward with this power. I know the plot seems all over the place; however, it will all come together once you start watching it. So give it a try because there is much more than meets the eye.

Now, Ikari is responsible for the fate of mankind. He transforms from a regular kid to a legend after many trials and deadly fights. This one is a highly recommended one for Sci-fi addicts.

All of us have watched anime where MCs find themselves in a game, a novel, or another dimension. However, this one is the complete opposite. A particular incident occurs, and all the characters from the books and games fill the streets of Japan. Amidst these confusing environs enter our MC named Souta, who desires to be a novelist.

Somehow his plain life gets all the thrills when he encounters the character who knows more about the creators than anyone else. Heads-up, she is the antagonist but more popular than our protagonist here. A must-watch for a treat of Sci-fi served with action.

If you are a fan of Sci-fi anime, then you would be enraged if we missed out on Astro Boy. It is a heart-touching story with many robots, good guys, bad guys, and fights.

A father created a robot named Astro with his son’s face and heart only to keep his son alive in any way possible. The plot turns sharp when the said robot is thrown out into the hellish world. However, his extraordinary powers and the heart that he could feel for humans made him the hero we know.

This tech-based sentimental story is highly recommended for my fellow Otaku.

 

6. Casshern Sins

Meet Casshern; he is an AI Robot who awoke amidst the chaos only to find that he is one of the reasons for this chaos. He embarks on a journey to find the truth and meets many who teach him about emotions he thought he never had.

He transitions from a depressed, lost robot to a cybernetic warrior, and it is worth the watch. Fall in the world of AI and fantasy followed by thrill, mystery, and deep emotions. It is a worthy anime that made it to the top of my list of best sci-fi anime.

Who doesn’t know about the handsome Lelouch? This anime is a unique mixture of politics, mind games, mecha, action, and more. Indeed, something to watch! The plot circles around young prince Lelouch and his sister.

He is determined to find his mother’s murderer and protect his sister after the Britannian Empire has taken over Japan. What’s more, is that the Britannian Empire used mechas to dominate Japan. Albeit a genius prodigy, Lelouch lacked the power to take on the world, but with a stroke of luck, he got the strength he needed.

Witness the rise of a fallen prince who pulled the biggest Brexit ever with mind games and a unique power.

 

4. Psycho-Pass

It is time for one of the best among the bests. Talking about Sci-fi, how can we not add this extraordinary action thriller staged on sci-fi! This one is a must-watch if you are looking for some scientific spark.

Set in a world where technology rules and humans are under constant observation. All this is to determine who possesses what kind of criminal tendencies. Meet Shinya Kogami, a former mercenary and an inspector tasked to find those who pose a danger and take respective measures.

The plot develops as Kogami solves multiple cases with his colleagues and finds himself in unpredictable situations. Enjoy the thrill of an action-packed anime with enhanced technology and mysteries.

 

3. Steins; Gate

Aside from the plot, the character writing and animation are top-notch. The plot showcases Rintarou who is obsessed with inventing ultramodern devices. Call it an accident or a stroke of luck; he creates a telephonic microwave that can send messages in the past and manipulate it ultimately.

My microwave experiments usually result in a short circuit. Man, Rintarou is a genius. Anyhow! The trio’s adventures are filled with mystery and thrills, so are you ready for a masterpiece in play?

 

2. Ergo Proxy

This one here is just top-notch. The seriousness of the plot and the character development is simply unique. You will love the concept of foresight in supposed circumstances. The story is set in a world after an ecological catastrophe hits the earth.

Humans are no longer born but manufactured named Proxy. The plot premises one such Proxy named Re-L Mayer. With her own thinking and judgment, she is often considered a rebel of the system ruled by AI. Her life takes an irreversible turn when on a mission; she is confronted with the dark realities of humans and their sins.

Her survival and growth are worth the watch. This anime is at its peak in terms of animation, plot, character development, and AI development. Thus a must-watch for anyone who is looking for a mystery and action-filled Sci-fi anime.

Okay, so if you haven’t stumbled upon this one yet, you are missing out on one of the best. It is a unique story of a legend, if I were to say, because it is rare for us to have an MC in his late 50s. Yes, but the age factor is what makes this one more realistic.

Ichiro, an elderly man, loses his life after being involved in an alien abduction. However, fate bestows its grace on him, and he returns as a cyborg. His continuous contemplation on whether he is still a human or an AI will make you connect with him.

Since he is a hero, it is evident that he will save the innocent from bad guys. Fighting off an evil cyborg-ed fella is also predictable to save the earth. However, his transition from a coward and a timid man into a brave and powerful hero is the best.

Get ready to jump into the world of AI, hair-raising action sequences, and a lot more. You will fall in love with this 56-year-old grandpa, and I can bet on that.

 

Conclusion

Phew! That was a tough one. Starting from the early 80s with alien techs including strange, overpowered protagonists and intriguing plots with viruses, robots, monsters, and whatever you can try to imagine, the listed anime covers all and, indeed, much more.

These anime have been ruling our hearts for a long time, and they tend to do so with their intriguing characters and attractive plots. If you are a Sci-fi freak, you will indulge in the above list, and even if you aren’t, I assure you a quality time and a broader horizon.
