Wise Man’s Grandchild or Kenja no Mago features a young man who died in a car accident and was reborn into another world. The old, yet wise and powerful man, Merlin, found him and named him Shin. The elder decided to raise him as a sort of a “grandchild,” hence the title, Wise Man’s Grandchild.

After many years, Shin grew up really well that even the word “powerful” can be considered as an understatement for him. He really is overpowered and the beginning of the main story showcases him enrolling into a magic academy.

However, he’s prepared and all but there’s one thing that he lacks- common sense! And that’s pretty much the premise of the story.

Overall, this might be simple for you and we really can’t argue with that. Nonetheless, the actions are well-done and entertaining, and the interesting dynamic between him and his cluelessness makes up for an interesting manga to read.

17. Akame ga Kill!

Akame ga Kill! focuses on the story of Tatsumi, a young villager who came into the Capital to earn money. This simple plot was quickly turned into something interesting after he was robbed by a buxom beauty, leaving him penniless.

All things spiraled into more complicated stuff when he discovered an organization called Night Raid– a group of assassins that target those who are in the upper ranking! And even more, they might be the good guys?

This manga features action, adventure, and even horror. Overall, this manga series is recommended for you, especially if you like edgy stuff.

Kafka Hibino is a man in his 30s who is also the main character of the story. He works a job that he considered a boring one as it is a job from Monster Sweeper Inc., the one in charge of cleaning up exterminated monsters.

He dreams to be a member of the Defense Force but he wasn’t able to due to him flunking the entrance test. All of this though was turned upside down after a talking monster entered his mouth turning him into a monster too!

On paper, the series’ premise might be hilarious and something really weird for some. But, you should still give this manga a try as it is one of the hottest manga in Shonen Jump right now.

15. Black Butler

Black Butler is about a young boy who, after a chain of tragic events, made a deal with a demon that he later named Sebastian. The seal for the deal was placed on his right eye and the tragedy was slowly and slowly starting to unfold.

This series, like Akame ga Kill, is pretty edgy and it’s something we recommend to people who can handle it.

Despite the thrilling story though, this is still pretty popular as this shows a rather distinctive dynamic between Ciel and Sebastian as they hunt down those who caused the MC misfortune.

14. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Mushoku Tensei has been the recent hype of the otaku community since the release of its anime. The anime has shown so many unique aspects to animation and to its adaptation that it has made the series popular.

Nonetheless, the manga (adapted from the light novel) is still a must-read for the Mushoku Tensei fans.  It features different scenes and even short storylines that weren’t in the anime. The difference in media may also help change your perspective on a particular event in the series.

The only reason why this manga is no. 14 on the list is because of its much better anime counterpart, but this is still something we recommend.

13. Claymore

Claymore is a manga that has one of the rare MCs in the manga industry, or the otaku culture in general. And that’s a female main character that flips out the idea that women should be feminine.

The story started with a village that is plagued with fear from a Yoma (beings that feed on flesh and blood). However, when assistance comes, the fear just gets even worse.

This is because the claymore that was sent is something that is more terrifying and unexpected. She even seems more “monster-like” than the monster itself!

This is the synopsis of the story and it provides a very interesting sneak peek of the manga. In the end, we all love our strong independent women.

12. Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon is one of those series that can be branded as part of people’s childhood.

The story sets off with Usagi Tsukino, a middle school student, who finds out that she is a chosen warrior of justice a.k.a. Sailor Moon. This premise is something that most of the people who’ve heard of this series know.

And, even though the anime is fun and all, the manga takes a relatively much darker approach on the responsibilities of Sailor Moon to mature and one day become a better warrior that will someday vanquish all evil.

Mairimashita Iruma-kun! Is a series that focuses on Iruma Suzuki, a poor kid who was sold to the demons by his own parents. The good thing is, this is a comedy series with sprinkles of romance. Or else, that would have been really bad.

Iruma is basically trapped in the world where demons are dominant and he was enrolled into a demonic school. SOUNDS SCARY! Where he has to learn and adapt to the new environment while also concealing his identity as a human.

Overall, this is a great read for those who want a nice change of pace from regular story premises, and that puts it into the number 10 of this list.

The manga industry is becoming bolder and bolder with the identity of their main characters. We have a demon lord, a slime, and now a spider?! Like, will it be a bacteria next time?! ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Bacteria’ seems like a great title. Oh, wait… Don’t give them ideas!

Kidding aside, this series is the definition of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” or at least in this case, by its title. The series’ title might be silly at first but this manga series actually speaks for itself.

It follows the story of Kumoko, an isekai’d female student, who upon being reincarnated, realized that she no longer has just two legs. She’s now a spider.

The story starts as a simple and funny story but slowly delves into the much darker side of the world. It has amazing characters, great storytelling, and so much more. After reading one volume, you might find yourself needing more and more of it because it’s just that good!

My Hero Academia was a series that has always maintained its hype (for the most part) over its scheduled manga releases. If we have to describe this manga, it is something that “keeps on getting better and better.”

From the unique art style to the amazing story building, we can see why this is branded by the MHA fans as one of the best shonen series out there. And, don’t even get us started with the characters and their character developments.

8. Bleach

If you are an otaku, Bleach is something that you probably heard of at least once. This is an amazing manga series that features Ichigo Kurosaki, who upon meeting Rukia, instantly changed his life as a regular young man.

This is part of the fantasy list because of the “fantasy vibes” that the Soul Society gives. It has its own power system such as shinigami, Bankai, and so much more.

The series is known for, not just its unique story, but also for its stylish and good character designs. Like, you can tell that their anime drips are so cool!

7. Naruto

We can’t have a list of fantasy manga without the mention of one of the OGs, Naruto. The Naruto series is one of the most iconic series out there and it is that for a reason.

This series centers on a ninja-Esque, fantasy setting where it features the titular character, Naruto Uzumaki. He is a well-written MC who aspires to be the Hokage of Konoha even if he has to endure all the hardships one has to go through to be one.

In general, it has amazing actions, characters, and one of the most popular power systems, Chakra.

Just be careful when doing the Naruto run…

6. One Punch Man

If this is summarized in one statement, then, One Punch Man is power fantasy done well.

A lot of power fantasy series, that have an overpowered MC, kinda hits a wall after the first few arcs since, for the most part, there’s nothing more to explore. Since the MC is really overpowered, he basically has no struggles left.

But, this is something that OPM was able to solve. Even after so many story arcs, it has remained interesting and not lacking in storytelling. The reason? It’s a hilarious and laugh-inducing comedy.

One Punch Man has a very simple premise. Saitama is the MC who is so overpowered, he has gone bald and only needs one punch to bring an enemy down. However, his rich and funny character is what made this series a hit.

He has a lot of quirks and habits that would make a lot of sense once you start reading the manga.

5. KonoSuba

KonoSuba is hilarious.

Like, there’s no word that can describe it better.

This series is one of the most famous isekais out there and it’s definitely worth the hype that it receives. It follows the comedic adventures of the MC in a fantasy world, together with his chunchunmaru and his useful teammates… Oh, and also Aqua.

From the very beginning to the end part of the series, it’s really hard to not give a laugh when you are seeing the hilarious journey of Kazuma as an adventurer.  This is something that you should definitely try to get into!

4. Black Clover

Black Clover is a manga series that has been adapted as a long-format anime with 170 episodes just for the first season. So, the reason why we want you to read the manga? (if that’s to your liking) Reading the manga will save your ears from Asta’s shouting in the anime.

Seriously speaking though, Black Clover has made a name for itself over the story arcs that it has presented. It has unique characters and Asta (main character) has one of the most unique powers in anime. It’s basically an anti-power if you know what we mean.

It currently has more than 300 chapters so you won’t be feeling the “I need more of these” feeling. Unless… of course… you binge read it in a week or so since the story is really, really good.

3. Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen’s popularity has skyrocketed so much that it has become one of the most anticipated anime adaptations of all time. And this is all thanks to the source material, the manga.

The manga, being the source, became the next stop for the JJK fans after watching the first season. And those who enter the world of JJK are in for a treat.

It has amazing storytelling and one of the best parts of it is the fleshed-out background of each and every one of the main characters. The actions are also really good too and the art style itself is made to have an impact when emotions are in play.

2. Honorable Mention: Solo Leveling

Sliding into the list is a series that is not published as Japanese manga, but as Korean manhwa. Solo Leveling is definitely a deserving entry to this list due to it just being really amazing.

The story started with the infamous and weakest hunter, Sung Jinwoo, who after a series of occurrences, almost lost his life in an advanced difficulty dungeon. However, this became the catalyst for his growth.

He received a mysterious power that gave him the ability to experience exponential growth! Now, you can already see why this series is really popular.

The story is really awesome but the aesthetics are what make it 100x better. In every panel, you can see the amount of effort the creator put into it. In a nutshell, this is one of, if not, the best power fantasy manhwa out there.

1. Berserk

And finally, the greatest of all time, Berserk. Do we even have to explain why this is no.1?

Berserk is and always will be a timeless masterpiece. At its core, this series is a dark fantasy manga that features a dark, violent, and complex tragedy. The characters are really well-written with each of their own deep stories.

The development and realizations of the main character are the greatest of all time. And the art is just breathtaking. Like, the art is a literal masterpiece, and with every attention to every detail, we think no one can argue otherwise.

Guts - Berserk Quotes - "You have the strongest Armor, because you are the Weakest!"

There’s even a story that said that the late mangaka, Kentaro Miura, tried to edit out the pixels of the digital panels of a chapter, even though it’s not something that can be seen once the manga is printed.

This shows dedication. This is not even work anymore; this is a passion. This is the greatest manga created by the greatest mangaka of all time.

Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura. We will not forget the LEGEND that you are…

Conclusion

9. Berserk

These fantasy mangas and Anime are either the top-rated or popular ones that you can find in the discussions of the otaku community. They all have great and unique storytelling that almost anyone can enjoy, as well as characters that anyone can love.
