21. Akame ga Kill

Akame Ga Kill

Akame ga kill features a very unique theme that skyrocketed to crazy fame. Apparently, if one tries to create an action-comedy based on gore, torture, and mutilation of innocent people and exploiting power, he’ll get Akame ga Kill. It is indeed going to be a bit disturbing but at the same time, it’s light-hearted as well.

The story follows a young countryside boy, Tatsumi, who moves to the Capital and aspires to become a part of the army. He’s young and full of zeal (Literally every other shounen protagonist). Since he is also naive, he gets tricked a lot in the Capital. He manages to stay the night at a house where some women take him to.

The house gets infiltrated by some assassins (the real bad guys) known by the name of Night Raid. He ends up joining the Night Raid and finds himself more suited to that group than the Army. The group includes a number of people who have a screw loose in their heads. And yes, they make Tatsumi one of them and their journey begins (Beware of the bloodshed that follows!

20. Clannad

Clannad

Grab your tissues because this one is really going to get you all teary. A sweet slice of life with a bit of bittersweet story, Clannad is the ultimate slice of life anime that weebs absolutely LOVE!

All weebs are definitely not the same. Some of us like action-packed anime with a lot of blood-shed. But some of us are also more into something light-hearted and sweet. This is where Clannad steps in. It is going to make you relate to its characters and make you think about the cold realities of life.. sob… I’m not crying it’s just the onions I’m cutting.. sob… Not my fault. It’s just too deep it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.

The story revolves around a pessimistic high school boy, Tomoyo Okazaki, who has no purpose in life (Does that ring a bell?). He hates the city he lives in and is bored of his life. One day on his way to school he meets a fragile girl who is a year older than her but repeating the year in school due to an illness. They soon become friends and their bond grows stronger. She brings color to Tomoyo’s otherwise black and white life and makes him see things differently.

The story is not that simple. It also has some bits of a Harem anime that might be a cup of tea for some of us weebs. It features five female characters that have different sorts of relationships with Tomoyo. This anime has done a perfect job in mixing drama, harem, and tragedy together. Thumbs up for that!

19. Steins;Gate

Steins; Gate

We have a bunch of brainy weebs who love techno-babble and this anime fascinates them a lot. Even if you’re not all that brainy, this will make you think about stuff that otherwise would have been far away from getting into your “Thinkpiece” aka your Brain.

We don’t see a lot of anime with a theme of time travel. Steins; Gate has portrayed it really well. even an average person with an average brain can make out what’s happening in the anime for the most part. The plot follows a logical progression and knows how to do “quantum-hokum” to explain time travel which is really an integral part of the anime. Beware! Steins; Gate may make you think highly of yourself because. Of course. BIG BRAIN HOURS!

Steins; Gate is a story about time travel and how its misuse leads to some unpleasant consequences (That’s why they say don’t mess with science). The main protagonist, Okabe Rintarou, is a self-proclaimed mad scientist who is known by the name Hououin Kyouma. He soon forms a team who work on their customized “Microwave” to send some sort of messages to the past (Talk about weird!).

They’re soon busted by an organization named SERN who are doing their research on time travel. Now, Rintarou and his time have to find their way out of the clenches of SERN. The story also gets deep afterward but we’re trying not to give you spoilers here. We recommend you to check out this anime if you want to be considered a cultured weeb in your group of weebs.

18. Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen anime that is as visually appealing as Violet Evergarden is. Beautiful animation, beautiful soundtrack, beautiful soundtrack, beautiful theme. It deals with everything beautiful. The grace of our main character is on another level (Makes her the best waifu material).

You’ll need some tissues with this one too as it will take you on an emotional rollercoaster with its story. All the weebs that are into sappy stories and tragedy have watched this anime without a doubt.

The anime revolves around Violet Evergarden, our little killing machine that looks like a literal doll. She’s an orphan who is raised by a soldier and is treated as nothing more than a tool used in war. She gets caught up in the bloodshed of The Great War. She gets hospitalized and spends her time recovering there.

After getting recovered, she joins a postal service office as an “Auto-memory doll” that transcribes people’s feelings and emotions into letters and sends them to the designated receivers. She meets a lot of people with complicated lives and spending time with them slowly leads to her self-discovery. This anime will definitely get you teary-eyed so be prepared for that! *sniff, sniff*

17. Inuyasha

inuyasha

There is an anime that is integral as well as an outlier in the lives of some weebs and that anime is Inuyasha. This anime has contributed a lot to increase the number of weebs all around the world. Ask an anime fan what made them get into it and most of them will answer Inuyasha.

While being a shounen anime, this one also incorporates chunks of romance in it which makes it a perfect watch for everyone. It does look simple at some point but there is so much more to this seemingly simple shounen.

Inuyasha features consistent action that keeps you hooked to it (Literally every other shounen anime). The characters will make you burst into laughter because of their dorky personalities. The story progresses rapidly, doesn’t let you get bored. The romance is also very cute and will make you warm all inside. All weebs love this anime and it’s still relevant today.

Kagome Higurashi is a 15-year-old girl who on her birthday gets dragged into a well by a huge scary-looking centipede(Talk about being unlucky). She keeps falling instead of hitting the ground of the well and BAM! she’s suddenly in the Sengoku Era in the past. She basically gets transported 500 years back which is crazy.

Apparently, where Kagome is transported, a demon is attacking that village and it is revealed that Kagome looks like someone that demon is chasing. As soon as the demon comes near her to attack her, she unleashes the half-demon, Inuyasha, and saves her. The demon was chasing a number of jewel pieces that were scattered all over in different areas of Japan and held tremendous power. Inuyasha and Kagome begin their journey to retrieve the pieces and their adventure gets interesting and intense as the story progresses.

16. Oregairu

Oregairu climax

Anime with a protagonist that all of us weebs can relate with, Oregairu has set a very high bar for other anime with the slice of life genre. It is definitely an intellectual masterpiece that will make you wonder how life and relationships work( Most of us haven’t figured it out yet). This anime will also grace you with a lot of good moments for the fans.

With a set of extremely realistic and very likable characters, Oregairu has done a fantastic job. Our protagonist is a loner and very realistic. He doesn’t give a crap about anything and believes strongly in his ideals. The two girls with him are also polar opposites of each other but he tries his best to keep their relationship intact until the end of the anime.

The story revolves around Hikigaya Hachiman who likes to be alone and stay away from normies as much as he can. People around him think he’s creepy because of his dead eyes and kinda scary smile. His teacher, Shizuka Hiratsuka, who is also one of the most loved women in anime, notices this about him and forces him to join the service club in his high school. There he meets Yukino and Yui who help other students in need. The story looks simple but there is a lot more going on inside and is way more complicated than you think. It has also used the theme of Harem very intelligently which we really admire.

15. Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul

Is there any weeb that hasn’t heard the name of Tokyo Ghoul? The answer is a BIG FAT NO. also, not to mention its opening theme song that went viral and took the weeb community by storm. The way it has used the supernatural theme in its storyline is insane. It makes you addicted to it in no time.

If you’re thinking that you’d be able to predict what’s going to happen next in this anime then you’re wrong my friend. It also features a lot of blood-bath and gore so it might be a little disturbing for some folks. Overall, its animation, character development, action, and background music are amazing and have contributed a lot to its popularity.

The story revolves around creatures called “Ghouls” that have destroyed the peace of Tokyo and wreak havoc everywhere. They easily blend in with humans and prey on them, creating a sense of constant fear amongst the citizens of Tokyo.

Our shy boy Kaneki Ken meets a ghoul named Rize and that’s when his fate changes and he ends up in the dark pit of ghouls. A waitress named Touka Kirishima saves him as she is also a half-human and a half-ghoul. Kaneki ken along with Touka and a few other characters sets out on a journey to vanish ghouls from the face of Earth.

14. Hunter x Hunter

Hunter X Hunter

We have only one word for this anime; VARIETY. It is so interesting and addictive that you’d find yourself watching its episodes in the middle of the night. Our weebs with elevated tastes in shounen anime know very well what I’m talking about. Sure it’s a shounen anime with crazy action scenes but it will also make you laugh a lot when you’re watching it.

Hunter x Hunter is an anime about Hunters that hunt down criminals and perform other dangerous tasks. Our energetic little protagonist, Gon Freeccs, aspires to become the best hunter out there and also hopes to find his father who left him when he was little. He sets out on a journey to find his father along with his friends including an ex-assassin Killua, a friendly doctor Leorio, and Kurapika. Their journey is full of hurdles and is not as easy as Gon anticipated at first. But together, they’re ready to take on any enemy as long as it makes them stronger!

13. Fate/Stay Night

Fate Stay Night

An anime with extreme hype, Fate/Stay night is one of the best Senin anime of all time. This anime has shocked the weeb community with its different theme that is not really seen in a lot of other anime. We gotta hand it to the animators because the fight scenes are mind-blowing. You could feel the characters moving like some fluid because of the smooth animation. Thumbs up for that!

Fate/Stay Night is one of those anime that every weeb out there will know about. Our protagonist Shiro Emiya has said some wise words, “People die if they are killed”. We have never heard such truer words before. Despite how true those words should be, we see a lot of anime violating this. Fate/Stay Night is also no exception because there’s a character that needs to be killed a lot of times before he’s actually dead. It’s okay Shiro. We’re not making fun of you. Shiro is not stating the obvious.

Getting into the plot, we have our protagonist Shirou whose family is killed by a mysterious inferno. He is then saved and adopted by Kiritsugu Emiya who teaches him magic and stuff. Years after Kirutsugi’s death, Shirou finds himself in a bit of a pinch between two deadly superhumans known as Servants. He attempts to escape but another boy gets caught in the deadly encounter and receives a life-threatening injury. The two now must participate in the Fifth Holy Grail War (Sounds like a drag!)

12. Code Geass

Code Geass

Our weebs who are into mecha stuff love this anime and it’s one of the greatest mecha anime of all time without a doubt. We recommend you to put on your seatbelts and brace yourselves because this anime will rapidly take you through plot twists and character developments that will have you longing for a new episode.

This anime features a jaw-dropping plot, skillfully written characters, and a well-executed ending. you might also need some tissues with this one, we’re already giving you a heads up.

The story is about an alternate universe where the Empire of Britannia has invaded Japan and named it “Area 11” and its people the “11’s”. Our protagonist Lelouch Vi Britannia was living in Japan at that time and promised his friend, Suzaka, that one day he’d destroy Brittania. When he gets into High School, he encounters a mysterious woman who gives him the power of Geass that lets him control people.

He struggles a lot throughout and is torn between keeping his promise or succumbing to the power of corrupting Geass.

11. Full-Metal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist

It’s a fact that Full-Metal alchemist is often considered as a stepping stone for the new weebs and is a must-watch for every weeb (Take notes, guys). This anime deals with the theme of alchemy in a fantastic way which makes us really wonder about stuff. It is heartwarming as well as exciting.

I won’t be exaggerating if I say that its story spirals and twists more than a roller-coaster. The character development is also insane in this one. It has the perfect balance of humor and tragedy. You’ll find yourself laughing and crying at the same time.

Edward Elric was just 12 years old when he lost his mom. In his attempt to resurrect his dead mother through the forbidden act of human transmutation, he loses his brother as well. Because he has amazing alchemy skills, he succeeds in binding his brother’s soul to a large suit of armor. Edward ends up sacrificing his arm and leg for his brother (Yikes! Talk about brotherhood).

They get to know about the Philosopher’s Stone that could give them their bodies back. Both of them set out on a journey to obtain that but their journey is not as easy as it

10. One Punch Man

One Punch Man

Yes. You heard it right. We’re talking about one punch man here who’s literally so strong that he can take out any enemy with only a punch. This anime is also one of those that are insanely popular amongst the weeb community and almost all of them know about it.

The action in this one is jaw-dropping and coupled with pumped-up background music that has played a massive role in creating its hype. It does things like none other and we meant it when we say it. You’d find yourself enjoying every moment of this anime. It includes a very likable set of characters with a bit of stuff for the fans. You’re going to end up falling in love with a lot of characters. We’re giving you a heads up here. Be prepared for that.

The story is about an overpowered guy named Saitama who is so overpowered that he only needs to punch an enemy once and BAM!! He’s gone! Sounds ridiculous, right? He lives in a city full of mutants and other monsters that roam around and scare innocent citizens. Saitama soon meets a cyborg named Genos who looks up to him and wants Saitama to train him. Saitama takes him in but is really not interested in training him.

He’s just plain bored of life because he’s just too powerful and has never found a worthy opponent. The story will unfold a lot of other superheroes who save the city from troublesome monsters along with Saitama.

9. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Jojo's Bizarre Adventures

As the name suggests, this anime is plain… Bizarre. Ask any weeb about it and he/she will tell you how much they love this one. You will not see such character designs in any anime and it’s a fact. Everything about this anime is odd. I sometimes wonder how Araki Hirohiko’s brain works…..

The ridiculous storyline of this anime will keep you coming back for more. That’s a warning! Currently, it has 5 parts, each part featuring a set of characters that are connected to the previous ones. You must have seen a lot of JoJo memes on your social media that are absolutely hilarious. That’s because of its groundbreaking success in Japan and all around the World. The cultural references in it are so realistic that it’s hard to believe.

The story revolves around the Joestar family who have cursed bloodlines against the forces of evil. Part 1 begins in 1880 featuring Jonathan Joestar growing up with his merciless and evil brother Dio Brando who is also a vampire (Yikes!). Part 2 follows Joseph Joestar who is the grandson of Jonathan Joestar and his misadventures against the Pillar Men.

Part 3 is about Jotaro Kujo and his group that travels from Japan to Cairo to defeat their archenemy, Dio Brando, to save Jotaro’s mother’s life. Part 4 follows Josuke Higashikata who is also an illegitimate child of Joseph Joestar and his group that tries to solve the decade-long homicides that are happening in their city, Morioh. And finally, Part 5, featuring the son of the infamous Dio Brando, Giorno Giovanna, and his group that fights a lot of stand users to solve different mysteries.

8. Boku no Hero Academia

My Hero Academia

Boku no Hero Academia is a refreshing shounen anime that is absolutely adored by the weeb community all around the World. If we talk about the fanbase of this anime, it’s MASSIVE AND INSANE. It was so hyped back then in 2016 and the weebs are still awaiting a new season which is going to come out pretty soon.

One thing that is common with all shounen anime is a huge number of characters with different personalities and powers. Boku no Hero Academia is no exception and includes a number of very interesting characters that are the true essence of this anime. It has amazing animation, cinematography, and exciting background music which makes it all the more welcoming and engaging. Overall, it’s very enjoyable! You will definitely catch yourself watching it during the middle of the night. It’s just that good.

The story is about Izuku Midoriya, a young boy living in the world of superheroes with different “Quirks” that fight different monsters in order to bring peace all over Japan. Midoriya was born quirkless but soon he inherits the quirks of the strongest superhero named All Might. He enrolls in the best hero academy in the country and begins his journey to become the strongest superhero along with his friends.

7. Black Clover

Black Clover

Most of us weebs know very well how this anime grows on you slowly. This is one of the best shounen anime ever produced and the weeb community is absolutely obsessed with it. Do you want to be considered an anime elitist? Don’t waste your time and start watching this!

Just like every shounen anime, Black Clover also has a massive number of characters that are very likable and interesting. I personally feel like it’s pretty underrated. It might not be the cup of tea for everyone but it definitely deserves the hype it’s getting these days.

Asta and Yuno are two orphans who aspire to become the next Wizard King of their country. Yuno has always been perfect with everything, unlike Asta, a sore loser (Sorry!! We love you, Asta!). Yuno got his Grimoire, a four-leaf one and Asta ended up getting nothing. But soon he got a five-leaf Grimoire which was very rare. The two join the Magic Knights, each in a different group, and start their adventure to become the best.

6. Death Note

Death Note

Can you even call yourself a weeb if you’ve never heard of Death Note? The answer is a BIG NO! It’s one of the staples for every weeb. It is a true masterpiece!

The popularity of this anime is no joke. I’ve personally never watched any anime with such a complicated theme and a character-driven story. A classic psychological anime, Death Note is the ultimate gem of all time.

The story of this anime revolves around Light Yagami who stumbles upon a weird-looking notebook that has the power to kill anybody, I repeat, anybody, if their name is written in this notebook. He gets obsessed with killing even innocent people after obtaining this god-like ability (What a psychopath!).

He finds himself in a bit of a pickle when he finds out that he’s being followed by a detective named L.

5. Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer

According to some weebs, this show is a gift from the anime gods. This irresistible anime will keep you coming back for more and more (It’s legit!). The absolute favorite of weebs, Demon Slayer has secured a very high place among other shounen anime and is not going to come down anytime soon.

It involves a number of characters whose development throughout the anime is quite impressive. Its animation is one of the best parts about it that contributed to its hype. Ufotable has a history of creating impeccable animation and Demon Slayer is no exception.

Our protagonist is a young boy named Kamado Tanjiro who lives with his family in a small village and sells charcoal. One day, his family gets attacked by some demon and ends up dying. The only one who survives is his little sister, Nezuko( Ahem, Best waifu alert!) who turns into a demon. Despite being a demon now, she still has some bits of humanity intact deep inside her so she avoids devouring humans, unlike other demons.

Tanjiro sets on a journey to get his sister back and trains like crazy. He joins the Demon Slayer corps to destroy the demons. He makes some friends along his way that help him fight the demons and get closer to his motive. Isn’t the plot fantastic?

4. Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan’s popularity is no joke and with the new ongoing season, it has skyrocketed. It is one of those classic anime that every weeb has watched. It’s not even a joke. Its insane popularity comes from its theme, characters, and animation. Nobody does it better than Attack on Titan. It’s like human all the human fears all dumped together in anime form because of the titans of course (Scary stuff).

There are so many epic moments in anime that you will find yourself in awe. It is far from being predictable. One moment it’s something and the other moment it’s something else. You will definitely get a weeb pass if you watch this anime.

The story revolves around Eren Jaeger and his life inside the walls. Humanity is nearly exterminated because of senseless and merciless creatures called titans who are very tall and devour humans relentlessly. One day Eren and his friend Mikasa witness a horrific scene that leaves them scarred for the rest of their lives. They see a colossal titan coming out of thin air and destroying their village. Eren’s mother gets wrapped up in this situation and dies.

Eren vows to kill every titan on the planet. There’s a lot more to it but we’re not trying to spoil the anime here. If you haven’t watched it yet, you’re missing out on something very amazing!

3. Bleach

Bleach

Bleach comes at the 3rd place of THE BIG THREE shounen anime that has a massive fanbase and is still relevant today. It is one of the most iconic anime series ever made. Our veteran weebs know very well what I’m talking about (The hype is real!!)

The storyline is fast-paced so it will not get you bored easily. Sure it has a lot of episodes but every episode is worth watching. The animation, the action, the soundtrack, everything is perfect to the core. This catchy anime will leave you at the edge of your seat. So, new weebs, get to work and watch this ASAP!

Bleach is about a high school student named Ichigo Kurosaki. His family gets devoured by a hollow spirit which forces him to become a soul reaper (Wow. Ominous) after taking Rukia Kuchiki’s powers.

He is forced to fight the hollows in his town couped with his friends. He soon realizes that hollows are not the only threat to his town. More dangers are lurking there.

2. Naruto

Naruto

You can’t call yourself a weeb if you have heard the name “Naruto”. It’s one of those super essential anime that make you a proper weeb. It has defined the cultural shounen of the last generation in the history of anime.

The ninja aspect of the show is definitely the best thing about this anime. The storyline as well as the characters are very cool. The way the characters develop throughout the series is also very commendable. The fillers in Naruto are very annoying but overall it’s a pretty decent anime with great action and animation.

This anime revolves around a young and feisty boy named Naruto. Let’s travel to the past for a bit. When Naruto was about to be born, a huge nine-tailed fox named Kyuubi attacked his Hidden Leaf Village and wreaked havoc. To stop Kyuubi from causing destruction, the fourth Hokage sacrificed his life and sealed the nine-tailed fox inside Naruto.

Back into the future, Naruto is despised because of the nine-tailed fox that exists within him. He tried to find his place in the village. He ends up making friends as well as a lot of enemies. His journey to become the best Hokage begins and he trains hard for it.

1. One Piece

One Piece

I won’t be exaggerating if I say that One Piece is the King of all Shounen Anime. Almost all of us weebs today got into anime because of One Piece. You just can’t hate One Piece. It is an absolutely beautiful masterpiece with an absolutely beautiful storyline. It has been running for 15 years and is still going strong which is crazy.

The battles in this anime get surprisingly brutal sometimes. It knows exactly what it’s showing and excels at it. The character design is very bizarre and might tick off some people. But overall, it is the best shounen anime out there. That being said, if you want to be an elite weeb, you gotta start watching it right now.

One-piece follows the odd adventures of Monkey D. Luffy who is the protagonist of the show. He’s in search of the treasure left by Gold Roger. Monkey D. Luffy ends up becoming a pirate in order to search for treasure. He also has a weird stretching power that makes him super flexible and saves him from his enemies. He, along with his Nakama who are a bunch of odd people, sets out on a journey to claim the treasure by all means.

Conclusion

There are really no hard and fast rules for being a weeb. Just go with the flow and enjoy every anime out there.

That is the true essence of being a weeb!
