Hey! Thanks for coming back for another read. If you’re new to this recommendation list, then welcome. Today’s recommendation list is one we all know well: anime with good fight scenes!

We’ll be ranking and grading the best Japanese anime based on the high-quality fight choreography! So get ready ‘cause this is going to be an action–filled read full of the greatest household anime both new and old. We’re sure you know at least five of these anime!

26. Gintama

Ever thought about being a Samurai? Yet another old style Japanese anime takes place in Edo Japan where we follow the swordsmanship of the samurai, Gintoki Sakata, his apprentice, Shinpachi Shimura, and a foreign girl named Kagura as they take on odd jobs.

The three of them can only hope these jobs would bring home bread and a roof over their heads. But it’s fair to say that these jobs land them in some pretty sticky situations fighting some unlikely enemies.

25. The Seven Deadly Sins

We all have sinned and fallen short–unless you’re one of these seven deadly sins then there isn’t anything to fall short of. This anime is one where the warriors who harbor the title of each sin must band together again and clear their name as falsely accused murderers.

The third princess of the country that’s sworn them off works to bring them together under their former commander’s rule named Meliodas, our MC. Along their journey, we witness a display of giant power, a mage, immortality, and ego so big it makes fight scenes bigger.

This early 2000s styled anime came with a concept that you wouldn’t believe until you saw it. In this anime, you have what’s known as a meister and their demon weapon. We follow Soul and Maka on their journey to become a death scythe to be wielded by Death himself

In this anime, you’ll see how a meister and their weapon have a relationship that parallels their personalities and fighting styles making for creative combos and fight scenes that are specific to each team.

So, let’s say you’re living your life happily as a high school student, but you live in a house that used to be a shrine that harbours a sacred well. Sounds fun, right? Until you fall into that well and are transported back to the Feudal Japan Era. That’s how Kagome’s story begins.

She befriends a half demon named Inuyasha, a monk, and a demon slayer after finding out she bears the sacred jewel shard that is wanted by numerous demons and must be protected. You’ll see cool fight scenes from another old styled anime that’s worthy of recognition.

This Japanese style anime showcases unique powers and stories to the leading and supporting characters as a result of encountering the sacred jewel shards and the demons that run wild seeking to devour the shards for greater power.

22. One Punch Man

If you’ve come to one of our recommendation lists before, then you’ve heard of this anime with Saitama, the guy who’s exercised so hard he’s now capable of defeating his enemies with one punch.

This isn’t just another Japanese anime about superheroes, this one has monsters and vigilantes that are celestial-level and capable of blowing up planets, using mind control, and then some. Thankfully, where there’s villains of great power there are heroes of greater abilities.

If you’re not a fan of exoskeleton enhancements and want something more of the traditional style boxing, may we suggest this Japanese anime?

Hajime No Ippo follows the life of young Makunouchi Ippo, who climbs the ladder of professional boxing as he knocks out opponent after opponent with one upper cut after the next. Watching him achieve wins with each swing is something to marvel about in this boxing anime.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted anime, this anime isn’t for the faint of heart as Kaneki becomes a Ghoul after a date with the man eating beauty goes south.

From there, we see quality fighting scenes of ghoul after ghoul that appear seeking to devour humans as their source of nutrients or one another as they harness more power. You’ve never seen fight scenes like this until you’ve watched ghouls go at it.

Do you want unusual, quality fight scenes with ex-super soldiers? Then you’ve come to the right Japanese anime! Worick and Nicolas work in a town, Ergastulum, that is full of bad people to put it nicely.

These gents take jobs from both the police and mobsters, making for an interesting turn of events when it comes to sequences and brutal fight scenes with characters that are unforgettable.

18. Megalo Box

Are you a boxing fan? If so, great! If not, you’re about to be. This old styled japanese anime follows an underground boxer ring named Junk Dog who may have heart, but doesn’t have the best boxing gear.

You see, in this anime, while the fighting choreography is centered around boxing, the boxers wear exoskeletons to fight and the better your exoskeleton, the better chances you have at winning a fight.

In spite of this disadvantage, Junk Dog believes in his skill as he enters a boxing tournament known as Megalonia to beat the champion, Yuri, and take his title as the Megaloboxing Champion.

17. Darker Than Black

So, a supernatural phenomenon happens and now you’re struck with abilities that you must keep hidden to the public eye using only logic and reason, as you navigate a double life under one alias and perform missions known as a Contractor.

This is the story of Hei, a Chinese Contractor who performs assassinations and esponiages in Japan’s beloved Tokyo directed by an organization known as Syndicate. But when Hei has an epiphany of horrors to come, it’s up to him to do more than just complete missions.

Fun Fact for you: this is one anime that shares the same creator with another anime in this recommendation list, we won’t tell you who, but judging from the art style you’ll know.

This Japanese anime follows the story of Shinra, a third generation pyrokinetic who is looking for his mother’s killer and trying to save his little brother, Sho, from the same enemies who want to set the world ablaze again (literally) in the name of a religious figurehead.

This newly styled anime holds fight scenes with a Shaolin Kung Fu choreography where they make creative weapons made from, yup, flames.

15. Samurai Champloo

Have you ever seen a classic anime that just makes you sit back and go, “Oh this is different.” Yeah, this is one of those. With an old school art style and beats that’ll make you bob your head during a fight, you can bet these fight scenes aren’t something to dance around about.

This anime follows a young woman, a rogue, and a ronin on their journey through…yup, you guessed it, life as they kick butt and make ends meet along the way. The fight scenes are cool but it’s the story and hip hop like instrumental music that keeps it chugging along.

In this anime you’ll follow a young school girl, Ryuko Matoi, who’s on the manhunt for her father’s killer. Her search leads her to Honnouji Academy, where she has to fight each council member before she can face her father’s killer and the student council president, Satsuki Kiryuin!

13. Cowboy Bebop

3..2..1…let’s Bop? Ever heard the intro? You will after watching this anime recommendation described as a neo-noir sci-fi anime. While the Earth has become uninhabitable after a hyperspace accident, humanity has resulted in taking colonization to space.

You’re gonna follow a ragtag group of Cowboy-like bounty hunters on their spaceship, Bebop, through the cosmos as they apprehend fugitives. This concept brings forth wild fight scenes specific to this westernised sci-fi universe.

So, your parents die due to an inferno, you’re adopted by a mage named Kiritsugu Emiya who teaches you magic and fairness. Your guardian dies and you’re cleaning your school one night when you’re caught in a fight between two superpowered humans called Servants.

Welcome to the anime life of Shirou, who suffers a fatal blow during his escape, yet he survives and when the Servant comes back to finish the job, Shirou summons Saber; a Servant of his own.

After manifesting his partner, the two of them go on to compete in a seven man tournament styled battle royal for what is known as the Holy Grail!

You’ve never seen high-quality fight scenes like this! Demon Slayer is just what it sounds like. It’s about a boy, named Tanjiro, who seeks to destroy the demon that slaughtered his family and turned his innocent little sister into one of those blood-thirsty monsters.

Travel through Japan’s Taisho period as Tanjiro seeks to claim the head of the Muzan, the Demon King, and cure his only family left, little Nezuko. All while slaying demons alongside allies with breathing techniques and swordsmanship that reflect the elements of the earth.

10. Black Clover

All this kid wants is to become the Wizard King, and in a world that’s run by magic that’s kinda hard to do when you don’t have any. Unless you possess what’s called Anti-magic, ya know, the kind that can cancel out other people’s magic? That’s Asta for you.

This anime is full of creative fight scenes where each character showcases their unique magical abilities in tournaments and against adversaries alike who seek to destroy the Clover Kingdom.

That’s where Asta comes into play as he longs to be the next Wizard King, but his dream won’t come easy with a rival like Yuno, his long time best friend who possesses a spirit like power that enhances his magic to the next level!

9. Bleach

This is an anime you’ll watch for good character design and even greater fight scenes as the MC, Ichigo, battles his way through the Soul Society’s most notorious evil as a Soul Reaper.

This is a Japanese anime with a distinctive concept and exceptional characters with immense powers. Only, instead of magic or chakra, they harness soul energy that is channelled into a sword. Making for an interesting take on swordsmanship, art, and the powers one possesses.

8. Dragon Ball Z

Ah friends! This is yet another household classic anime that’s still in development today! In DBZ, we have the story of Goku, who has many friends and a fierce rival by the name of Vegeta, who all seek to protect the earth from evil-doers that wish to destroy them.

You’ll see Goku having a blast as he fights only to come back stronger and Vegeta strives to keep up with him, hoping to one day prove that he is the better Saiyan as the Crown Prince of the Saiyan race!

Full of action and foes that are worthy of being opponents, this anime hails at good fighting choreography in each battle our characters face.

7. Baki

This is one anime where you’ve got to have a stomach of steel to watch because these fight scenes get pretty intense. They are realistic and each punch sticks just as true as the heart of each fighter!

In this anime, we follow a young man known as Baki Hanma whose dying wish is to defeat his father and prove once and for all that he’s the top fighter worthy of the title, World’s Strongest Man.

6. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Science is cool but let’s agree it was even cooler back in the beginning when alchemy had first arrived. What if you had a brother and you both lost someone very special to you so you try to bring them back…only that the transmutation doesn’t work out the way it’s supposed to.

Something went wrong, to say the least, and now our MCs, Edward & Alphonse, seek to gain what’s known as a philosopher stone said to restore the consequence that plagued them. Along the way, they encounter some fatal foes who they must face using the renowned powers of alchemy!

5. Attack on Titan

You’ve at least seen one meme about this anime somewhere. This rugged Japanese anime is one of a kind as it showcases a dystopian society where the cowardly people of each sector are protected behind walls from colossal beasts known as Titans.

That’s not their only protection against this threat to humanity, they also send out Scouts, an advanced team of soldiers who use gear that helps them propel to the Heavens as they race to slice and defeat the Titans.

In a fight of humans versus titans…only a few make for lethal killing machines like Levi Ackerman, and Mikasa, the guardian to our MC, Eren Yeager. How will humanity take on this unnatural challenge?

4. Jujutsu Kaisen

If you’ve ever watched pro wrestling then you’ll know how important it is to have a dynamic duo somewhere in the mix.

This is an anime known for fight scenes where the MC, Itadori Yuuji’s tag team matches. Itadori becomes Sukuna’s host, a notorious demon, after swallowing one of his 20 fingers needed to revive this grave monster. End result? He becomes a Jujutsu Sorcerer.

Itadori’s journey begins at Tokyo Jujutsu High, where we discover he’s a total team player! Whenever he makes an alliance with another character, there’s sure to be an epic fight scene that’ll knock a cursed spirit off their rocker as he searches for the rest of Sukuna’s fingers.

3. Naruto Shippuden

With Japanese anime on the rise, surely you’ve seen some merch of an orange haired ninja-looking kid around here somewhere. Naruto Shippuden is an anime that follows the story of Naruto Uzumaki who is seeking to save his childhood best friend, Sasuke Uchiha.

Naruto is the bearer of one of the 9 tailed beasts and he’s known to harbour a lot of chakra, where he is able to perform various and creative signature Jutsus. This anime has numerous fight scenes that showcase various Jutsus specific to some characters, clans, and villages.

2. Hunter x Hunter

Would you be a Hunter of islands, treasure, endangered animals, and bounties? That’s this Japanese anime in a nutshell. Gon is our MC who finds out that his father was a well known Hunter. Thus, he leaves his home in the hopes of becoming a Hunter himself.

This is definitely the most fantasy anime we’ve got on this recommendation list. It’s filled with mystical creatures that our young Gon will have to go toe to toe with if he wants to become the next best Hunter.

1. Castlevania

You’ve never seen an anime like this. In a world where Dracula becomes the world’s greatest enemy after they burned his beloved at the stake for being a witch. You’ll see our three MCs in action exorcising demons with finesse in weaponry, magic, and a little shapeshifting.

Apart, Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard can hold their own just fine, but together they’re lethal in their synchronized, strategic fighting choreography against the night creatures and vampires as they make their way to stop Dracula from executing mass genocide.

Conclusion

Between ninjas, bounty hunters, demon slayers, the power of friendship and love, and guys trying to take over the world, I’d say Japanese anime has a lot in common with those themes.
