“As human beings, we all mature physically from childhood to adolescence and then into adulthood, but our emotions lag behind.” – Bernard Sumner.

This is the most striking remark that came to mind whenever I watched Violet Evergarden, and it prompted me to wonder, “How does one develop an emotion?”

Violet Evergarden tells the story of a girl who doesn’t know how to process emotions. It’s not that she doesn’t have these feelings; it’s just that she was raised in an environment where these moral precepts were not taught. She feels these things, but she doesn’t know how to express them or comprehend other people’s feelings.

However, she learns how to develop herself through the individuals she meets and begins to experience these deep, heavy emotions. She grows as a person as a result of the anguish she endures throughout the anime, and it’s absolutely beautiful to watch.

With a little adventure and excitement, Vinland Saga takes us back to 1013 AD England, when the Danish invaders known as Vikings ruled.

We follow Thorfinn on his quest to avenge his father in a duel as an honourable warrior. There’s more to the narrative, and one season isn’t nearly enough time to tell it all. Season 2 is now under production and should be released sometime around the summer of 2022. I can’t wait!

Sports anime certainly have a way of establishing a connection with their viewers. You don’t even have to be a fan of the sport to appreciate the show since it has been created to help you grasp the concept of the game by portraying it in an excellent manner. Eventually turning you into an enthusiastic fan.

A fresh path is being taken by the sports genre thanks to shows like Haikyuu and Kuruko no Basket. In contrast to Kuroko, the characters of Haikyuu are more relatable and realistic as we see the character development generically.

I’m a sucker for spectacular antics and intense shows, which is why I’ll be placing Kuroko no Basket above Haikyuu in my rankings. Haiykuu was fun, but not as much as Kuroko no Basket.

I literally knew nothing about basketball till I saw Kuroko No Basket. I was even tempted to learn the sport, but it is not for the faint of heart like myself. Hahaha!

We have a character that can make a basket from any part of the court, there’s also one with the ability to copy any skill/ move and lots more. These special antics are what makes it stand out and gripping.

There is so much excitement in this series that you tend to root for the characters without even realizing it (I can attest to this). Literally, every match is packed with suspense and intensity, leaving the audience with goosebumps while on the edge of their seat.

7. Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is a new generation shonen series that’s sweeping the Aniverse. The story takes place in a world where demons wander the earth, feasting on humans. The first episode begins with the death of the protagonist’s family, making it dark and somber, but as the series progresses, the tone lightens thanks to the inclusion of regular comic jabs.

The fight scenes are intriguing and I just can’t get enough of Zenitsu’s god mode! If you don’t know Zenitsu, he is a cry baby that’s scared of literally everything. So, the way he goes from being a weak character to an op character is just sick! I get goosebumps all the time. I can’t wait till he get the hang of his powers so we can see him in action more often.

Yet another new generation anime that’s currently dominating the Aniverse. Jujutsu Kaisen is popular for its top-notch animation, fight scenes and characters.

In a world where curse spirits are manifested from human negative emotions, we follow the story of Yuji Itadori, an average teen who joins a secret group of sorcerers after ingesting the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, a strong cursed spirit.

Even if you haven’t seen this anime, I’m sure you must have heard of it at some point. Death note is a popular series known for its dark and intriguing plot.

The story revolves around Yagami Light, a high schooler who is trying to make a difference in the world. He finds an odd extraordinary book that has the ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.

Now, using the moniker of a god-like vigilante dubbed “Kira,” he takes the law into his own hands and begins to cleanse the world of those whom he deems immoral in order to build a crime-free society.

The plot kickstarts with the introduction of L Lawliet, a renowned detective who is tasked with apprehending the mass murderer, Kira. We now follow the two protagonists as they engage in a war of wits.

HxH is one of the best series of 2011. Popularly known for its intense battles, characters and overall plot.

Some of the best battle scenes I can’t get enough of are: Gon vs Pitou, Meruem vs Netero, Gon vs Hisoka, to mention a few. These battles are breathtaking, intense, and never get old. Another scene that got to me was Meruem dying moments. Writing this brings back a lot of memories. If you haven’t seen Hunter x Hunter, you should definitely add it to your watchlist.

In a world of alchemy, we follow the Elric Brothers on a quest to find the philosopher’s stone, hoping to retrieve their bodies after performing human transmutation (Forbidden magic) to resurrect their mom.

Watching FMAB was an emotional rollercoaster. The creator, however, does an excellent job of maintaining a delicate balance between heart-wrenching and heart-warming moments. You just can’t go wrong with FMAB.

Without a doubt, Lelouch is one of the most intelligent characters in the aniverse. He’s the type of chess player that will play with himself and two other opponents at the same time. If I had his IQ, I’d probably dominate the world, lol.

Chess was heavily referenced in this anime, which piqued my interest as it was entertaining to watch Lelouch employ his chess strategies to anticipate his opponents’ tactics and play his moves accurately.

If you enjoy strategic shows with mind-boggling plot twists, then Code Geass is just for you.

1. Attack on Titan

It will be a crime if Attack on Titan isn’t included on this list. If you haven’t seen the series, I don’t think you have the right to refer to yourself as a weeb/otaku.

AOT is one of my favourite anime, and it’s safe to say it’s one of the best anime out there. As of this writing, it’s currently in its last season, and it has been a wonderful ride.

AOT tells the story of humanity trying to survive from the terror of gigantic-man eating humanoids referred to as “Titans”. It is dark, gruesome, intriguing, everything! Truly a masterpiece.

One of my favourite scenes was when commander Erwin made his last speech. That feeling will stay with me forever! Never in my life have I felt so strongly about a series! I was moved all over and wished to join them in their fight to save humanity. That’s how powerful it was! It was a magnificent speech, and commander Erwin will live on in our hearts forever. SHINZOU WO SASAGEYO!!!
