As I spent my years watching anime, I came across many anime character types that I can’t even remember all of them. I’m used to seeing them so much that I can tell a specific character trope by directly looking at the character (That’s how common and overly used they are!).

So today, I’ll be sharing some of the most common anime tropes that you can see almost in every anime! Also, take this quiz and find out which anime character trope you belong to!
Which Anime Character Trope are You?
QUIZ
INCLUDED CHARACTER TYPES
1. Otaku
Otaku is an umbrella term for people with a lot of different obsessions. They include anime, manga, games, technology and cosplay. An Otaku usually has an unhealthy obsession with the things we’ve mentioned before. They’re socially inept people who like to invest their time in their respective interests. They usually have a lot of knowledge about the things they are interested in but like to keep it hidden from other people. That’s because, in Japan, Otakus are considered weirdos and very uncool. So, the otakus must hide their identities from others. BEWARE! Don’t go into their room! Famous Otaku characters in anime are Sora and Shiro, Narumi Momose, Umetaro Nozaki, and Tomoke.
2. Shuojo
The Shojo trope includes a female main character who is super-kind and super-sweet. She’s not the most perfect person ever and is prone to mistakes but she always tries her best to not mess things up (That she usually does!). She also has feelings toward a “Senpai”. Also, they’re very loyal to their friends and are always there for them. The Shojo characters in anime are total sweethearts! Famous Shojo characters in anime include Toru Honda, Sailor Moon, Futaba Yoshioka, Mei Tachibana, and Erika Shinohara.
3. Ojou-Sama
The girls who fall under this character trope are literally worshiped. Everything about them screams perfection and they become the center of attention wherever they go. They’re mostly actual princesses in anime. They also have a superiority complex and think that they’re better than everyone else and be treated like a princess. However, in high school settings, they’re either extremely rich or are an idol. In some cases, which are very rare, they’re just extremely beautiful, not rich or not from any royal family. For example, in the case of Komi-san (You all know her level of “Ojou Sama” exceeds the rest). Famous Ojou Sama characters in anime include Erina Nakiri, Eris Boreas Greyrat, Priscilla Barielle, Fukiko Ichinomiya, and Asuka Kudou.
4. Overly Apologetic Character
All of us have come across an anime that has an overly apologetic anime character. They will apologize for everything. They’re going to apologize for existing. They’re going to apologize for even being so apologetic. Their frequent apologies stem from some trauma they had to go through in the past. Also, maybe because they’re insecure about frequently messing things up. We will never know. Anyways, apologizing too much isn’t normal at all! Sometimes it’s okay to make mistakes and not apologize for that. Examples of Over Apologetic Characters include Mikan Tsumiki and Agari Himiko.
5. Moe
Moe in any anime is always that adorable little character that you’d like to hug. They will evoke the “Big Brother Instinct” within you. You’d want to protect them because they’re so precious! Also, the way they act, talk, and walk is super adorable! Famous Moe characters in anime include Yui Hirasawa, Mami Tomoe, Kaede Azusagawa, Nezuko Kamado, and Honey.
6. Neko
As the name suggests, the Neko anime character trope involves girls or boys (rarely) dressed up as a cat. They even speak like nekos which is absolutely adorable. Such characters cater to those who have an affinity towards cats and surprisingly, the neko trope is the most popular anime character trope. Famous neko characters include Felix, Millianna, Alicia Rue and Hanekawa Tsubasa.
7. Sensei
ATTENTION! Because Sensei is here! A sensei in any anime is a beautiful young teacher that everyone loves. In some cases, our MC is interested in her. Other than that, she’s very helpful towards her students and is always kind and sweet to them. You have to admit though. You must also have a crush on your teacher at some point in your life. I’m pretty sure you had (wink, wink). Famous anime sensei’s include Tsunade, Hiratsuka Shizuka, and Hina Tachibana.
8. Miko
Miko anime characters are basically shrine maidens who are pure and just. They’re very common in a lot of anime. They’re mostly present in supernatural anime and possess some sort of power in order to purify those who are impure. That’s because they are chaste and never indulged themselves in worldly pleasures. Famous Miko characters in anime are Sailor Mars, Ruka Urushibara, Kikyo, and Rika Furude.
9. Hikikomori
Hikikomori are social hermits. They like spending time alone and we can also call them “shut-ins”. I’m not trying to mock anyone here considering how big of a hikikomori I am. They spend their time playing games or watching anime. Such character tropes are pretty common in the world of anime. Famous hikikomoris in anime include Natsuki Subaru, Tomoko Kuroki, Jinta Yadomi, Ryuunosuke Akasaka, and Kiri Komori.
10. Chuunibyou
Ah yes, Chuunibyous. There is no one as delusional as a Chuunibyou. They think they possess some supernatural powers and are better than everyone else around them. They even act like the main protagonist of some fantasy or supernatural show. Famous Chuunibyou characters include Rika Takanashi, Omoharu Nakanaka, Rintarou Okabe, Satone Schimiya, and Yoshiteru Zaimokuza.
CONCLUSION
These are some of the anime tropes that I wanted to discuss. I even find some of them pretty annoying but oh well, can’t really avoid them because they’re everywhere, literally, EVERYWHERE. But some of them have my heart💖. Have you taken the quiz already? Which anime character trope did you get? Comment down below and let me know. I’ll come back with another quiz. Bye!
