Bungou Stray Dogs. What comes to your mind when you hear this name? Well, for me, it’s the classy detective who wants to end his life while involving others in his matters and naming the process “double suicide”. This might be a little sensitive to hear for the newcomers but trust me I’m just trying to be funny in a dark way.
Anyways, let’s talk about the plot. The story of this anime revolves around Nakajima Atsushi or Atsushi Nakajima who was kicked out of his orphanage. He was pretty disappointed and done with life until he saw a man endangering his life at a river. Who could it be? *drum rolls* HAHA, you guessed that right, it was our crackhead detective, Osamu Dazai.
Atsushi ends up saving him and meets his fellow detective, aka Kunikida, who works for a special force. These guys have supernatural powers and they deal with very difficult cases. These cases can’t be solved by the army so these are passed down to these detectives with extraordinary powers. Let’s see how our MC adapts to their lifestyle. Atsushi Nakajima
Imagine being the main character yet still not being “so popular” among girls. Yes, Atsushi Nakajima is the protagonist of Bungou Stray Dogs but it’s true he’s not as popular as our classic side-yet the main character, Dazai. Atsushi is a member of the Armed Detective Agency. His ability is called Beast Beneath The Moonlight.
Things are gonna get dark when I’ll tell you that he’s been through a lot in his childhood which affects his daily life activities. The director of his orphanage used to abuse him. This is why he gets clueless or helpless when it comes to facing danger. In fact, Atsushi doesn’t really have a huge self-esteem. He considers himself as a loser not being able to face anyone.
Atsushi tends to trust others blindly. Now, this thing leaves a deep impact on the one who trusts others. He abandoned his own instincts which is why he trusts others more than himself. Doesn’t that sound sad? Unlike Dazai, he believes in the worth of a “life”. I don’t know If Dazai gets serious about killing himself or something but Atsushi is different. He believes that he has a worth in this world.
Osamu Dazai
*Bows* All hail the hero DAZAI! Here is our main protagonist who isn’t really the main protagonist but stands out in such a way that we sometimes feel like he’s the protagonist. I hope I’m making sense. I mean, sure, he’s one of the main characters in the anime. Like Atsushi, Osamu Dazai is also a member of the Armed Detective Agency.
When you’ll look at him, you’ll be like Sherlock Holmes who? Well, it’s true that Dazai is a trustworthy and a skillful detective. He was also the executive of the Port Mafia. He dresses better than any living human in the whole world. Maybe it’s his looks or what but he’s super charming. You cannot change my mind!
He’s tall, and has wavy brown hair. Dazai wears a sand-colored trench coat which gives him a classy soft boy look. Even though he’s mostly talking about ending his own life, his personality is quite mysterious.
We can’t tell what’s going inside his brain to be honest. At one moment he’s serious just like a true detective and the very next second he’s a crackhead. Isn’t that right? Chuuya Nakahara
Moving on to the next character, we have Chuuya Nakahara who also used to be one of the Port Mafia’s members. Nakahara used to be Dazai’s nakama in Twin Dark as well. You know how there are some anime characters who look small but when you take a closer look, they’re actually quite muscular and fit. Chuuya Nakahara is one of those characters who are unexpectedly ripped.
When it comes to his outfits, they’re quite comparable to Dazai’s. What’s up with these detectives dressing up classy anyway? He wears a white shirt and a dark red vest on top of it. This detective also wears a black choker. OMG! Things just got much more interesting!
Chuuya Nakahara’s personality is just like a little kid’s. He loves competing against different people especially when he’s in a battle. He’s quite proud of his reputation in the world of mafia. This man is full of surprises, you wouldn’t believe me but trust me, he knows martial arts. Congratulations you just unlocked another 2D crush. (Sorry for the attacks)
Junichiro Tanizaki
Junichiro Tanizaki is one of the most average members of the Armed Detective Agency. His ability is known as Light Snow. Even though he is called the most average member who’s not too loud or eccentric, yet I would say that his strength is going with the flow of his team. I mean, not everyone can keep up with their teams. Isn’t that right? Most people tend to quit when things get hard, however, this guy just keeps up with any kind of danger or hardships.
Junichiro Tanizaki is a lean guy who mostly wears an oversized T-shirt and some earrings. He also wears light blue jeans (Not a Lana Del Rey reference) and brown shoes. Junichiro’s hair is orange which sometimes makes him look like a pumpkin. HAHA, I’m just kidding. He’s not very bad looking though. If you wanna know more about this guy, watch Bungou Stray Dogs!
Naomi Tanizaki
Naomi Tanizaki is Junichiro’s sister who belongs to the Office Staff. Naomi is quite different from her brother. We never see her shy. She’s quite bold and straight forward. Even though she doesn’t use an ability, she never leaves the conflict. As a clerk, she’s quite smart. One of her strengths includes her quick thinking. It’s true that it’s a blessing to think quickly during risky situations.
Naomi has a hime-cut. If you have no idea what a hime cut is, you can simply look at her hair and set a new trend for boring people of this world. Get yourself a hime cut, it looks amazing! Naomi wears a regular high school uniform and has hip-length hair. She definitely looks quite furious for a high schooler.
