AWESOME POKEMON VARIANTS!!
18. Galarian Meowth

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | Pokémon Journeys: The Series |
Pokemon Type | Steel |
Region | Galar |
First off is Galarian Meowth from the Galar region. When you see this variant of Pokemon for the first time, you’ll immediately feel some kind of familiarity with its design because you’re not even sure if it’s the same Pokemon as the original Meowth!
Compared to the original, the Galarian variant has grown a ton of beard-like fur that grows all over its body. However, some aspects of the original stayed the same such as the ears. Add to that, its eye color has also changed from white to yellow.
17. Paldean Wooper

Game | Pokémon Scarlet and Violet |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Poison/Ground |
Region | Paldea |
Wooper is another Pokemon who recently got a new variant in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet! This new Paldean Wooper now has a completely different color scheme and has switched from blue to dark brown. This also indicates the change in its Pokemon type since Paldean Wooper is now a poison-ground type wherein the original one is a water-ground Pokemon!
16. Alolan Geodude

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Rock/Electric |
Region | Paldea |
Alolan Geodude does not have much difference from its original counterpart when it comes to its overall form. But when it comes to the color scheme, the Alolan version has a more light gray color than the original which is browner. It now also has spikes on its head making it look cooler than the original version and its eyebrows are giving strong Rock Lee vibes. In the Alolan form, Geodude now also becomes a rock-electric Pokemon!
15. Galarian Mr. Mime

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Ice/Psychic |
Region | Galar |
The original Mr. Mime always had a weird appearance when you see it for the first time especially when you have a fear of clowns and its Galarian version takes on a big change for its physical appearance! Galarian Mr. Mime becomes more blueish in this variant and now has a crystal on its chest unlike the original version where you only see a big red polka dot. He looks more like a gentleman now than a clown!
Its type also seems to have changed in the Galarian variant since it became an Ice-Psychic type while the original is a Fairy-Psychic.

14. Paldean Tauros

Game | Pokémon Scarlet and Violet |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Fighting, Fighting/Fire, Fighting/Water |
Region | Paldea |
Another variant from the region of Paldea is Tauros! Tauros’s original form doesn’t really feel like it’s actually a Pokemon because it basically just looks like a bull. However, the Paldean counterpart improvised it by giving it a darker theme!
The Paldean Tauros is now covered in black all over its body, even the head, and horns. I’d say that this look of Tauros actually made it more unique and add to that, its versatility in gameplay because in the game, Paldean Tauros can be a fighting-fire type or a fighting-water type!
13. Alolan Golem

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Rock/Electric |
Region | Alola |
Alolan Golem is the third and final evolution of the base Pokemon, Alolan Geodude and compared to the original version, the Alolan one takes on a more awesome and improved look than before! The original Golem only has a simple appearance of a lizard with a boulder as its body, however, for the original version, it becomes more improvised and now he has a cannon protruding above his body!
And just like Galarian Meowth, it seems that Alolan Golem has grown some beard and mustache! Other than that, it also turned from a rock-ground type to a rock-electric type Pokemon giving it a fighting chance against water types!
12. Alolan Marowak

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Fire/Ghost |
Region | Alola |
Alolan Marowak is the final evolution of Alolan Cubone and for its Alolan variant, he takes on a similar appearance but with a cooler weapon at that. In the original version of Marowak, it wields a bone as its main weapon and the same goes for the Alolan variant but the only difference is that the bone now has green flames on each end. It also comes in a darker brown skin color than the original one.
One of the reasons why there are flames on the bone is because of Marowak’s Pokémon type which changed from a ground type to fire-ghost type Pokémon.
11. Hisuian Braviary

Game | Pokémon Legends: Arceus |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Psychic/Flying |
Region | Hisui |
Hisuian Braviary’s color scheme has also slightly changed compared to the Braviary that we usually know. Some of its feathers have turned from red to pure white due to Hisui being a snowy region. Other than that, its plumes have changed from simple feathers to purple flames!
Also, from a normal-flying Pokemon, the Hisuian Bravery becomes a psychic-flying type making his skills more versatile in gameplay due to having access to psychic powers!
10. Alolan Raichu

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Electric/Psychic |
Region | Alola |
You may have all known Pikachu’s final evolution as Raichu and of course, the famous yellow Pokemon is not an exception when it comes to having new variants! As for its other version, we have the Alolan Raichu where it becomes much cuter than you’d expect!
Unlike the original Raichu’s pointy lightning tail, the Alolan one still takes the form of a lightning bolt but has rounded edges. The dark brown colors of hands and feet are turned into white and this Alolan Raichu also has blue eyes! Its Pokemon type does not change compared to the original, but a new type is added for the Alolan Pokemon which is Psychic.
9. Galarian Rapidash

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | Pokémon Journeys: The Series |
Pokemon Type | Psychic/Fairy |
Region | Galar |
If Rapidash is still not majestic to you, then you better take a look at its other variant, Galarian Rapidash! I must say that this one went on a drastic change compared to the original which has flames on its mane and other body parts. For the Galarian Rapidash, it’s not flames that you see but rather light-colored hair of blue and pink. It now also has a horn on its head literally making it a unicorn!
8. Hisuian Arcanine

Game | Pokémon Legends: Arceus |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Fire/Rock |
Region | Hisui |
One of the Pokemons that has the coolest designs is Arcanine because it’s like you’re looking at an animal as if a lion and dog were merged into one. However, its Hisuian counterpart only made Arcanine more awesome than you’d expect!
Its original white fur has turned into an ash-gray color giving Arcanine a darker finish. It’s also quite mythological to look at too because it’s somehow similar to the guardian lion, Shisa, from the Japanese legends. Hisuian Arcanine makes its appearance in the Nintendo Switch game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

7. Galarian Zapdos

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Fighting/Flying |
Region | Galar |
Zapdos is a legendary Pokemon and is probably the first one to be included in this list! Just like Hisuian Arcanine, Galarian Zapdos also had a drastic change in its appearance especially on the major parts of its body. The Galarian counterpart becomes covered in orange and black feathers and has yellow talons.
It may look cooler on the outside but unfortunately, the Galarian version of Zapdos is no longer the electric type Pokemon everyone loved over the years as he now becomes a fighting type Pokemon.
6. Alolan Sandslash

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Ice/Steel |
Region | Alola |
Sandslash has gained a beautiful transformation for its Alolan form as its pokemon type changes from ground to ice type. Even his Alolan counterpart screams ice all over! The brown quills at the back have turned into literal icicles that are even taller than the original ones while its brown fur has also completely turned blue.
As for its evolution requirements, an Alolan Sandshrew will have to need an Ice Stone for it to evolve into an Alolan Sandslash. Unlike the original one, where you will need to only meet a certain level for Sandshrew to evolve.
5. Galarian Articuno

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Psychic/Flying |
Region | Galar |
Galarian Articuno has now become a much more intimidating and scarier-looking legendary Pokemon compared to the original Articuno that we’re familiar with. Its blue color scheme has completely changed into lavender and it now has a face disk similar to a mask with glowing blue eyes.
Just like other Pokemon variants, Galarian Articuno’s type has changed from an ice type Pokemon to a psychic type. Also, Galarian Articuno can only be found in the game of Pokemon Sword/Shield’s Tundra Region!
4. Alolan Ninetales

Game | Pokémon Sun and Moon |
Anime | Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon |
Pokemon Type | Ice/Fairy |
Region | Alola |
Next up is Alolan Ninetales who has now become an ice-type from a fire-type Pokemon. Its color scheme has also significantly changed from bright yellow to icy blue to indicate that it is now a different type. If the original Ninetales requires a firestone to be evolved from Vulpix, obviously, the Alolan will have to require an Ice Stone just like Alolan Sandslash. Alolan Ninetales can be found in the game, Pokemon Sun/Moon and in Pokémon Master Journeys: The Series, Episode 23.
3. Hisuian Typhlosion

Game | Pokémon Legends: Arceus |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Fire/Ghost |
Region | Hisui |
Typhlosion is another cool-looking Pokemon due to its fierce design and the fire on its back. Hisuian Typhlosion takes on a more Japanese-looking appearance due to the round flames on his neck and the purple flames on its back. Not much has changed in its appearance other than the darker blue skin on its back. This variant first appeared in the Nintendo Switch game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
2. Hisuian Zoroark

Game | Pokémon Legends: Arceus |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Normal/Ghost |
Region | Hisui |
Another Hisuian variant is Zoroark and here it becomes a totally different-looking Pokemon because every part of it has completely changed aside from still being a bipedal creature. Zoroark’s original red hair has now become a gradient mix of red and white. Its skin also becomes more greyish in color with red marks on the body giving it a ghostly vibe.
Just like other Hisuian variants, this Zoroark can so far be only seen in the video game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
1. Galarian Moltres

Game | Pokémon Sword and Shield |
Anime | N/A |
Pokemon Type | Dark/Flying |
Region | Galar |
One of the three legendary birds in Pokemon is the phoenix pokemon, Moltres! And in the region of Galar lies another variant of it and that’s the Galarian Moltres. What’s more surprising is that it had a significant change in appearance, color schemes, and typing.
If the original Moltres shows more light colors due to the flames emerging from its body, the Galarian Moltres does the same thing but with a darker theme! Its overall skin turns black while its red flames turn into a more stronger color of red! Due to its intimidating look, it’s even possible that this could be even stronger than the first Moltres we know of! Lastly, Galarian Moltres can only be found in the game of Pokemon Sword/Shield’s Tundra Region!
CONCLUSION

Aaand that’s it for our list of the most awesome Pokemon variants you can find across different regions in the world of Pokemon! As more Pokemon games are released over the years, it is expected that more variants will also pop up! So, if you’re a solid Pokemon fan, then it’s definitely worth waiting for!
