Have you heard of the game called Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? Or perhaps you have already started playing the game or are new to it or probably planning to indulge yourself in this game. Well, for the introduction, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a role playing adventure game that can only be played on Nintendo Switch.

This was released last November of 2021 and people are obsessed with this game! One of the reasons why this game is so popular is because it brings nostalgia amongst many players who have been following the game plus, the Shiny Pokemons. In fact, this Pokemon BD&SP was actually a remake of the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl that was released ages ago but still is loved by many.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is so popular that this game has sold 14.65 million copies around the world (Nintendo Co., 2021)! As a matter of fact, in just a span of three days after this game was released on Switch in Japan, 1.39 million copies were sold (ファミ通, 2021)! Additionally, the Pokemon BD&SP has topped second place on the UK Charts as the best-selling game (Keight, 2021)!

WAYS TO FIND A SHINY POKEMON

Shiny Pokemon

So, if you’re wondering, what is a Shiny Pokemon and why do people craze over it? Well, these types of Pokemon are considered quite rare, and that is because of its main feature—it blings! These Pokemons are literally shiny and in addition, it has a unique characteristic that can be differentiated among the normal ones—the Shiny Pokemon has its own special animation during a battle.

In a battle, a Shiny Pokemon will radiate a sparkle around them which makes it look cool. Furthermore, each of these Pokemons that blings has its own variety of color where you’ll be able to distinguish who that character is. However, as I’ve mentioned, these types of Pokemon are quite rare and are very hard to find—you’ll need a ton of patience, dedication, and a bit of luck by your side to be able to capture one!

If you are a new/old player, or someone who is planning to play Pokemon BD&SP and wants to have a Shiny Pokemon on their side, well, I got you my dear readers! This blog is specifically for you and to help you attain one!

In this blog you will find some suggested tricks and techniques as well as locations in capturing a Shiny Pokemon in BD&SP. So buckle up guys, this is gonna be a long read, better prepare some snacks, pen and paper to list them all down or might as well bookmark this blog so you can come back and re-read the methods! Without further ado, here is how you’ll be able to find a Shiny Pokemon in BD&SP!

Soft Reset

pokemon Soft Reset

A rather unique and popular way of getting a shiny pokemon in which the player will have to continuously reset the game until they acquire a Shiny Pokemon. In a more detailed manner in using this method, this can only be used during an interactive encounter; one good example of it is the Pokemon Starter or the legendaries

For it to be effective, all you have to do is save the game before encountering/interacting with the Pokemon. After that, check if the Pokemon is shiny or not, if not then reset the game until it turns into a Shiny Pokemon. It’s like a gacha game where you have to keep on rerolling until you get the character you want—Shiny Pokemon.

Also, one good tip in using this method is that you should make sure that the “autosave” part of your game is not turned on because you’ll have a hard time obtaining the Shiny Pokemon.

Random Encounter

pokemon Random Encounter

As we all know, a Shiny Pokemon is a very rare catch, meaning it is hard to obtain/acquire. However, there are some instances where you’ll be able to obtain a Shiny Pokemon and this is through a “Random Encounter.” As the name suggests, you basically just encounter a Shiny Wild Pokemon in the game.

Although, this sort of method is best suited for early game. There will be a slight chance that you might encounter or capture a Shiny Pokemon who are either Bidoof and Starly. But if you’re lucky enough, you might obtain something more than that.

The downside in this is perhaps its difficulty since players have no control or whatsoever towards the outcome of the battle and the rewards in it. Plus, as I’ve mentioned before, in doing Random Encounter, there will only be a slim chance of one obtaining a Shiny Pokemon and it also depends on your luck

But fear not my dear readers, there are some locations wherein you’ll be able to find a Shiny Pokemon which I will be talking about now! However, I’m not saying that the other places don’t have any Shiny Pokemon, the locations that I am about to mention are a popular area for a lot of players in finding Shiny Pokemon.

Ramanas Park

pokemon Ramanas Park

For the first location, it is in Ramanas Park! Well, if you haven’t unlocked it yet, better unlock it now since this place has some Shiny Pokemon scouring around this place! The only way for you to be able to unlock the Ramanas Park is through completing the entire National Pokedex

With that, once you are able to go into Ramanas Park, you’ll need to secure Slates that are needed to battle against a legendary Pokemon you want to obtain. You should make sure to press the ‘save’ button before you insert the key item in the room’s pedestal. Now here is the part where your patience and dedication is involved

Once you have inserted the slate to trigger a Pokemon battle against a Legendary, make sure that the Pokemon you are battling with is Shiny. If the Pokemon is not shiny then all you have to do is follow the “soft reset” procedure that I’ve mentioned before. Reload and repeat the steps until you’ll be able to catch the shiny pokemon you want!

The Grand Underground

pokemon The Grand Underground

The Grand Underground will only be accessible once you have reached Veilstone City. In here you would be able to find a lot of stuff inside the Grand Underground which makes your exploration fun! There are varieties of things you can explore like caverns, find items and a lot of Pokemon dens.

Now mind you, the chances of obtaining a Shiny Pokemon here will be reduced, so a good tip for you my dear readers who play or are planning to play this game, prepare a bunch of Poke Balls because you’ll be needing that here. With that, here is a popular trick called ‘Lightstone Method’ in obtaining a Shiny Pokemon.

Lightstone Method

pokemon Lightstone Method

This method in particular can only be used in the Grand Underground. Furthermore, this method consists of only three steps!

The first step is for you to just roam around the Grand Underground and look for a certain purple sparkle that can be seen on the ground. When you run into it, you’ll be able to find a Diglet! But, if you ever find a Dugtrio, that’s much more better!

For the next step, after you encounter a Diglet make sure to catch forty of them. If you’re wondering why I included a Dugtrio, it’s because you’ll have a total of three points if you get one and a Diglet only has one point. The purpose in reaching forty, is so that you’ll be able to trigger the Shiny Countdown Timer.

Lastly, after triggering the Shiny Countdown Timer, you’ll have approximately four minutes where your chances of obtaining a Shiny Pokemon increases! All you have to do is roam around the Grand Underground and catch as many Pokemons as you want! Now mind you, the increase will only be 3 out of 4096 encounters of a pokemon, so it also requires patience for you to get that Shiny Pokemon.

Masuda Method

pokemon Masuda Method

The Masuda Method or also called “International Breeding.” As the title suggests, this method leans towards “breeding” Pokemon. This is through attaining and breeding a Pokemon from another real-world country, in using this method, your chances in obtaining a Shiny Pokemon will likely increase.

A detailed step-by-step process goes by this: the first thing you’ll have to do is obtain a Pokemon from a different/foreign country, most preferably a foreign Ditto, since it can be bred by any other types of Pokemon except the legendaries; for the next part, once you have obtained a Pokemon from another country, proceed to Solaceon Town’s Day Care Center. You’ll have to leave your Ditto there together with the Pokemon you want to shiny hunt so that you could foster some eggs

Lastly, wait until the egg is hatched; one way of knowing that the egg is hatched or ready is when the old man faces down away from the road and instead faces right towards the road.

Now here is the tricky part, if you want to create a lot of eggs, you’ll have to do a ton of running and cycling around in circles. Since, you’ll be switching eggs once an egg is already ready to be hatched. One good way to do that is through collecting at least six eggs and you move around back and forth to the Day Care Center to switch the hatched egg with new ones then do it all over again.

Although it is quite strenuous of an activity to do, if you do this method and hatch a lot of eggs there will be a huge chance for you to get a Shiny Pokemon!

Masuda Method and Shiny Charm

pokemon Masuda Method and Shiny Charm

The same method as the previous one but with an additional step in it. This method is said to increase its chances for a player to obtain a Shiny Pokemon. The increase would be in 1/512 chances, if you have a Shiny Charm; compared to just the Masuda Method with a 1/683 chance.

Since you now know how to do the Masuda Method, let’s say you don’t have a Shiny Charm yet. The process in obtaining this charm consists of three steps: the first one would be, completing the National Pokedex—this means you have to see or capture all the 150 Pokemon in the region. The second step would be, the player should enter at the Hotel Grand Lake and lastly, interact with Ueda (NPC) who is inside the hotel to obtain the Shining Charm.

With the Shiny Charm with you, your chances in obtaining a Shiny Pokemon would increase and through using the Masuda Method, you will surely get yourself a shiny pokemon!

Chain Catching (Poke Radar)

pokemon Chain Catching Poke Radar

The Chain Catching Method is most effective when you have a bunch of Poke Balls, Poke Radar and a Chain Counter with you. But, if you don’t have the Poke Radar as well as Chain Counter and want to get it, I got you! In obtaining a Poke Radar, all you have to do is head to the Ramanas Park and look for Professor Oak who is at Route 221, southeast of the Sandgem Town.

With that, make sure to interact with him, because he would be the one who will provide to you the Poke Radar and while you’re there you can also obtain the Chain Counter. Mind you, these two pieces of equipment will be the one who would make this method work, so it’s important to get these two. Once you have obtained the Poke Radar and Chain Counter, you will be able to start doing this method

This approach works as follows: you must use your Poke Radar and go to a location with some grass nearby; you will notice that it begins to shake. With that, you’ll be able to encounter a Pokemon (that you might want) and either capture or beat it. There will be more patches that shake after you have captured or beaten that Pokemon, and all you have to do now is repeat the method.

If you have noticed, in doing this process, you’ll be increasing your probability of encountering a Shiny Pokemon that is – through stacking your chain. Here is a simplified table to find out the odds where you’ll be able to obtain a Shiny Pokemon, this is based by Middler (2021):

CHAIN

SHINY ODDS

1

1/3855

10

1/2521

20

1/1820

30

1/1310

40

1/99

100

1/99

As the table above shows, the longer you build up the chain, the more likely you are to catch a Shiny Pokemon. However, be aware that your chain may break in specific circumstances. When you exit a combat and observe that the grass aren’t shaking anymore, you’ll know your chain has been severed. You’ll have to retake the entire chain capturing process.

If you come across a Chain Break, we have some advice for you. If you’re planning to use this method, save progress first and disable autosave to avoid any issues. Once you’ve faced it, the Chain Break, all you have to do now is leave the game and reopen it. You’ll be able to obtain your Poke Balls back this way, but you’ll have to repeat the method all over again.

Conclusion

Shiny Flareon

If you have noticed, all of these methods have their common disadvantages and that is: it is time consuming. So as I have said a lot of times in this blog, it is really important for you to have the patience and dedication to be able to capture Shiny Pokemon. This is why a lot of players do take their time in trying to obtain one, there might be others that would take days just to get a Shiny Pokemon.

However, if you love the game and really want to have one, then doing this can be considered as something worth your time!

Now that you have learned the few tricks and methods in how and where to locate a Shiny Pokemon, why don’t you give it a try? See if you’ll be able to catch yourself a Shiny Pokemon!
