We have been on an exciting roller coaster ride with One Piece for a lot of years now. Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have traveled across the sea for more than a decade. Over the years, we get to know about the tragic pasts, goals, and even the family of some characters in One Piece.

MONKEY D. LUFFY’S PARENTS IN ONE PIECE

Monkey D. Luffy 

Monkey D. Luffy is the main character in One Piece. He’s also known as the “Straw Hat Luffy” He’s the captain and the founder of Straw Hat Pirates and is also considered the strongest fighter. Monkey D. Luffy aims to find the legendary treasure known as “One Piece” so that he can become the Pirate King! 

Becoming a Pirate King will help Luffy in making his dream come true which he has told his brothers and crew only. Luffy strongly believes that becoming the Pirate King will help him have the most freedom in the whole world as shown in One Piece Episode 400.

When it comes to Luffy’s personality, he’s goofy and lacks common sense, as well. However, things like these never stop him from believing in himself. That’s why our MC is quite strong and sturdy! When he gets determined to get something, he puts his heart and soul into achieving it. One thing about Luffy that makes him stand out from the rest of the characters is his ambitiousness! He’s very ambitious and always dreams high! I mean, becoming the Pirate King isn’t a piece of cake. But he’s trying and overcoming a lot of hardships, as well! 

Luffy can also be described as a childish guy in the sense that he likes to go to the extreme. He can also be extremely greedy or extremely selfless. So, yes there is no state of balance or normality here! HAHA! But It won’t be wrong to say that the anime would have been super boring without Luffy. Isn’t that right? Since we’ve learned about Luffy, it’s time to talk about his parents now! So, let’s get started! 

Monkey D. Luffy’s Father 

Luffy was born in the Foosha Village and is the son of Monkey D. Dragon who leads the Revolutionary Army as shown in One Piece Episode 52.  His father is also known as the Rebellious Dragon. He’s a supreme commander of the Army. Thus, he has been titled “World’s Worst Criminal”. 

Monkey D. Dragon is the father of Luffy and the son of Monkey D. Garp. He was born in the Gao Kingdom. He is also the one who saved Sabo’s life there after almost drowning from a World Noble Attack. 

Luffy’s father was first introduced in Loguetown Arc where he played a major role in helping Luffy to escape from the Marine captain Smoker’s grip. That’s the moment when Monkey D. Dragon shows up and then starts serving as an important background character.

As shown in One Piece Episode 314, Monkey D. Dragon leads the Revolutionary Army, he is devoted to diminishing the World Government and stopping the nobility system that enables the nobles to oppress lower-class citizens. He often compares this corrupt system with the system in the Goa Kingdom, his hometown. 

He’s seen as a business-minded individual who likes to stay updated when it comes to different happenings around the world. He’s well-educated and cares about his subordinates’ opinions on things as well. When it comes to dangerous situations, Monkey D. Dragon is quick to notice and take action accordingly. 

He was shown to be quite secretive as he doesn’t like people talking about his past or personal life in One Piece Episode 441 since he didn’t tell anyone that he’s Luffy’s father. 

Monkey D. Dragon doesn’t like seeing lower-class citizens suffering, thus he’s considered to be empathetic. He cares about lower-class citizens and tries his best to give them equality.

Monkey D. Luffy’s Mother

Curly Dadan raisedLuffy and Ace, as she was entrusted by Garp to raise both of the boys. She took a lot of care of these boys and also took Sabo in. She lives on Mountain Colubo that’s close to the Foosha Village. Dadan is considered the mountain bandit boss belonging to the Dadan Family. She’s also a fugitive.  We first get to hear about Dadan in the Post Enies Lobby Arc. Woop Slap learned about Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates trying to start a war with the World Government. 

In One Piece Episode 447, it was shown that Curly Dadan wears large heeled boots and a necklace made of pink beads along with checkered pants. 

If we talk about Dadan’s personality, she is a stereotypical criminal and is a bit cowardly too. She’s an impatient person who got exhausted from raising Ace since his antics became more offensive to her. Aside from this mean side of Dandan, the mountain bandits respect her and will do their best to follow every order given by her!

Her tactics for raising Luffy and Ace were questionable. However, they tolerated those methods easily and became stronger and cooler day by day. She did a good job at raising them. A deep bond was created between Luffy and Ace. They started caring about each other and were always there for each other! That’s it for Luffy’s foster mother, Curly Dandan. One Piece has always been a heartwarming and legendary story! The number of fans of this anime is massive all around the world. It is the story of Luffy trying to find the One Piece treasure and the Pirate King! Their journey and wholesome moments will leave your minds blown! So, even if you have never tried watching One Piece, it wouldn’t be wrong to start now! I know there are 1000+ episodes of One Piece, but it’s okay! It’s never wrong to start a legendary and hyped-up anime.
