THE REAL VILLAIN IN ONE PIECE
So let’s dig in and figure out why it seems like Shanks is hunting Joy Boy’s treasure.
This will lead us to the shocking revelation that our Red Head, may very well turn out to be Luffy’s enemy. Very soon.

It was proven before that Shanks knows EXACTLY where the One Piece is and how to get it. We just all thought that he wasn’t interested in getting his hands on the treasure.
Well, we were so wrong about that, and as the dedicated One Piece fans that we are, we should be ashamed of ourselves.
He’s been after the treasure from the very beginning. It was so obvious, it’s actually hard to believe no one caught on earlier. Or it’s just that everyone was in denial.
1st reason Shanks is after the One Piece: His crew is Devil Fruit-free
Didn’t you find it weird that Shanks’s entire crew is Devil Fruit free? Don’t you think there is maybe a reason behind that?
When he was traveling with Gold D. Roger to Raftel, Shanks realized something. The Devil Fruit users on the crew, Toki and Buggy the Clown, suddenly became very ill as they were approaching the Final island. (episode 968)
He caught on quickly and came to the conclusion that those who ate the mystical fruit would never be able to set foot on Rafel and thus ordered his nakamas to never eat one.
This is why, when they got the Gomu Gomu no Mi, they didn’t immediately make its power their own and tried to keep it safe in that unlocked treasure box of theirs! (yes, it was unlocked!)
2nd reason Shanks is after the One Piece: He targeted the Gomu Gomu no Mi
Now that brings me to my 2nd Reason, For a crew that has no interest in Devil Fruits to go through the trouble of stealing one from the World Government is just weird, illogical really, especially since it’s a Fruit with the least appealing power of all time! (chapter 1018)
Except if…. They knew what its real identity was. They targeted Joy Boy’s Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, the last piece of the puzzle, the key for getting the One Piece. (chapter 1044)
3rd reason Shanks is after the One Piece: He tried to win over Luffy
This thought brings me to me 3rd reason. After Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, Shanks was kind of screwed. He now had no other choice than to make sure that Luffy would one day awaken the dormant power of the fruit AND cooperate with them when the time comes.
How will Shanks do all that? I’ll tell you how… by self sacrifice. Why so shocked? Did you really believe that a mere fish would be strong enough to be able to amputate one of the STRONGEST HAKI user’s arm? We’d be pretty dumb, to believe that, wouldn’t we?
By sacrificing his arm, not only did he trigger Luffy’s pirate career, he also made him indebted to him. I mean, Shanks saved Luffy’s life and lost a body part in the process. Luffy owes him a big one and when Shanks comes to collect will he be able to refuse him?
4th reason Shanks is after the One Piece: When Luffy awakened, he decided to go after the One Piece.
4th reason. After years of waiting, the time finally came. Nearly dying at least three times due to the overpowered attacks of Kaido, Luffy unlocked the hidden power of his Devil Fruit (chapter 1044)
With Joy Boy back, everything Shanks needed is now in his possession… almost in his possession.
He made his comeback in the series and spouted that one phrase: “It’s time to claim the One Piece” (chapter 1054). He was talking to Beck when he said this… you all know what this implies…
Just to make one thing clear, a villain in anime is anyone that will get in the way of the MC.
Now that we know that Luffy and Shanks have the same goal, what do you think will happen? Luffy will just hand over the treasure cuz he owes Shanks one?
