If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life and don’t know what One Piece is about, we’ve got you covered! The hype of this anime never ends! It premiered in the Fall of 1999. Can you guys believe that it’s been ongoing ever since then? There are so many interesting arcs and events that happen in this anime. So, let’s tell you around whom the story revolves!

Gol D. Roger was an infamous pirate known for his strength and leadership as we can see in One Piece Manga Chapter 1. He has sailed through the Grand Line and accomplished quite a lot as well! However, one day, he got captured and executed by the World Government. And his death brought a change in the whole world! His very last words before dying were “One Piece” which is the world’s greatest treasure.

Everyone dreamt of finding this treasure. This treasure is said to bring a lot of fame, glory, and riches to its owner. Now, Monkey D. Luffy is a teenage boy who disregards your definition of a pirate. He’s a toothless pirate with a wicked nature. He looted the village at times too just for fun. The thought of the exciting adventure of finding the world’s greatest treasure made him start his journey. Thus, the journey begins and Luffy comes across so many people and hardships. He also makes a lot of friends on this journey! Now, let’s talk about Luffy and his scars!

Luffy’s Scars

Monkey D. LuffyLuffy has two scars and both of these scars hold an interesting story behind them! One of the scars is under his eye and the other one is on his chest! Let’s see how he got those scars!

Scar Under Luffy’s Eye

luffyLuffy is known well for his features and looks much simpler as compared to other characters in One Piece. And we all know how the MC has one notable feature. For instance, Naruto has blond hair and an orange jacket and Goku has spiky black hair. Just like that, our boy possesses a notable feature as well! It’s the scar under his right eye.

When Luffy was just a kid, he got this scar. He tried to stab himself with a dagger just so he could join Shank’s crew by proving that he can be quite daring too in One Piece Manga Chapter 1! Years ago, even before the anime started, Luffy was just a little boy who always got abandoned by his grandfather, Garp. His grandfather left Luffy in the hands of the Mayor of Foosha Village or the leader of the Mountain Bandit named Dadan. Luffy is the son of Monkey D. Dragon who leads the Revolutionary Army as shown in One Piece Manga Chapter 432

During Luffy’s time in the Foosha Village, he happened to come across Shanks’s crew who stopped by the village to refill supplies and to spend quality time with the villagers. Shanks along with his crew enjoyed a lot with the villagers and gained a very good reputation as well.

Thanks to Shanks’ approachable behavior and fun-loving personality, Luffy was able to open up and have fun as well! Shanks and his crew inspired Luffy, they sing and dance while they’re drunk. So, he was just fascinated by the crew.

That’s when he got inspired to become a pirate. He didn’t want to become a Marine by following Garp’s goal. Thus, Luffy became friends with Shanks and his crew to the point of insisting to join their crew.

However, Luffy got annoyed since Shanks kept on rejecting him. He probably thought that Luffy was too young to become a Pirate! That’s when all the trouble began!

Luffy started to show off different stunts. He decided to stab the dagger under his right eye and said that he was strong enough to become a pirate.

Such a scar was quite dangerous for Luffy’s fragile and young skin at that time. Garp trained him to survive in dangerous places at times. But still, it didn’t stop Luffy’s scar from healing quickly. At least, now Luffy looks a bit more like a Pirate with such a scar. What do you guys think?

Scar on Luffy’s Chest

luffyAs compared to the funny incident of the scar under his eye, the story behind this scar is rather painful. The experiences Luffy had here were horrible! If you already are aware of the incidents in Marineford War, seeing Luffy’s scar will tell you and remind you of everything that happened. It also includes the death of his brother, Ace.

We’re not going to talk about the whole war arc since it’s very long. Just keep in mind that before Luffy got his scar, he was extremely traumatized by Ace’s death in One Piece Manga Chapter 578. When he saw Ace dying in front of him, his whole body was paralyzed and he cried with his mouth wide open as shown in One Piece Chapter 578. This crying made him paralyzed and there might also be one more reason why he got paralyzed. He forced his body a lot to the point of asking for Ivankov’s adrenaline hormone so that his lifespan could be cut if used in large amounts. Despite Luffy’s  traumatized state, Akainu didn’t stop himself from attempting to kill Luffy as he was the son of Monkey D. Dragon. Monkey D. Dragon is known as a revolutionary leader who’s also known to be the most wanted criminal. Akainu dreamt of killing Ace and Luffy who were considered the generation holders, holding their parents’ reputation.

akainuFortunately, Luffy was saved by his friends along with Whitebeard’s crew remaining members. First, Jimbe shielded trapped Akainu by blocking his way while he held Luffy. However, Akainu was still able to keep up with all of this. He punched Jimbe super hard with a magma-enhanced punch. This attack was strong enough to cause a volcanic eruption out of Jimbe. Sounds pretty terrifying, right? This attack was so strong that there was an eruption out of Jimbe’s body and since he was holding Luffy, it hurt him as well as shown in One Piece Manga Chapter 487. Thus, it added to his risk of dying.

Buggy was forced to save his reputation, so he decided to fly using his special Devil Fruit Powers. Meanwhile, Luffy and Jimbe flee from Akainu. Law also came into the scene along with his submarine called Polar Tang. He told his allies to bring Luffy and Jimbe over so that they can heal their wounds. Buggy hurled them on the submarine. Law didn’t bring the submarine down just yet, because Shanks and his crew arrived as well. They brought the Straw Hat for Law. And if Law didn’t step in and operated, the two of them would have died long ago.

LAW

Such an intense attack left a deep burn on Luffy’s chest and it even pierced through Jimbe. This explosion caused some parts of Luffy’s skin to be damaged. These cuts and damage can put the lives of these two characters in much danger. Even though most strong characters are resilient against punches and attacks, this explosion was very dangerous and it caused much damage to Luffy and Jimbe. That’s why we see an X-shaped scar with jagged sides on Luffy’s chest.

This scar has been shaped like an X because when the direct damage occurred, the eruption bursted like a Magma-enhanced punch. That’s why there’s a center point on the scar and it has four diagonal sides as well. If it had been cut, it’d look like Zoro’s scar. When Mihawk tried to cut him on the abdomen.
