THE STRENGTH OF SULETTA’S AERIAL GUNDAM
What is the Aerial Gundam?

First things first, let’s begin with the Aerial Gundam and what it actually is. So, the Aerial Gundam is a mobile suit mainly piloted by the female heroine of the series, Suletta Mercury. It is the improved version of the same mobile suit, Gundam Lfrith, which was first shown in the prologue episode of the series.
It comes in a mix of red, blue, and white colors similar to the color palette of previous Gundams such as the RX-78-2. It also has a body structure similar to that of the Gundam Barbatos from the Iron-Blooded Orphans series and a face that closely resembles the Gundam Exia from Gundam 00.

As for its armaments, the Aerial Gundam has several weapons it can use for battles such as the GUND-BIT and the Bit Staves. Both of these can be used for offensive and defensive purposes since they can function as remote turrets or even create shields to defend the pilot.
Just like other mobile suits, the Aerial Gundam also has more commonly seen weapons such as the Beam Saber and the Beam Rifle. But since this is a Gundam we’re talking about, the Saber and Rifle are expected to be comparatively stronger than other variations of it.
Aerial Gundam vs Guel Jeturk’s Dilanza and Darilbalde

Suletta and the Aerial Gundam took their first action scene by battling against Guel Jeturk and his Dilanza. Their first battle ended with a landslide win by Suletta and his Gundam by using the GUND-BIT and Bit Staves for the first time on-screen. Guel’s Dilanza was instantly destroyed by the Bit Staves doing the dirty work for the Aerial and ended it with a single strike of the Beam Saber giving Suletta her first win in the series (Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury, Episode 1).
Their second battle is where Guel uses another type of mobile suit which is the Darilbalde. The Darilbalde takes on an appearance similar to that of Char’s Sazabi but its speed is significantly lower than the latter. It also uses weapons that can be remotely controlled such as the Beam Javelin and other defensive weapons.
The fight against the Darilbalde was Suletta’s first difficult fight because the rematch actually a set-up by the Jeturk House. Guel managed to gain an upper hand by changing the environment into a rainy one neutralizing the Aerial’s beam rifle. However, despite the cheating methods, Suletta still managed to earn the win due to her GUND-BITs and ended with another final strike from the Beam Saber (Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury, Episode 3).

Aerial Gundam vs Elan Ceres’ Gundam Pharact

Suletta’s fight against Elan will put you on the edge of your seats because she almost lost this one and was a very close one at that if it weren’t for her GUND-BITS. This is also the first time we get to see a 1v1 fight between two Gundam units in the series. Just like Suletta’s Aerial, the Gundam Pharact also uses GUND-BITs and has a Beam Arquebus.
In terms of experience, Elan definitely has the advantage which is why it seemed that he was about to win the fight. What made Elan lose in this battle is due to the first signs of Aerial’s GUND-BITs as sentient weapons.
When Suletta was already cornered by Pharact’s drones, the GUND-BITs of the Aerial suddenly acted on their own by forming a shield and deactivating all of the Pharact’s GUND-BITs. This left a big opening to Elan’s side and was feasted on by Aerial’s GUND-BITs until the Pharact was completely destroyed (Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury, Episode 6).
Aerial Gundam vs Shaddiq Zenneli’s Michaelis

Next one here is the fight between Suletta’s Earth House team and Shaddiq’s Grassley team and is the first team fight between several mobile suits in the series. The first thing you’d expect in this fight is that Suletta will probably carry the whole team to win but that didn’t seem to be the case for this one because even though Suletta managed to put up a fight, she’s still fighting against more experienced pilots than her.
As usual, she relied on her GUND-BITs, but this time it didn’t become as useful as before because they instantly got deactivated by the enemy team’s Antidote ability. Eventually, Suletta managed to activate the GUND-BITs again and this time she easily cut through every mobile suit of the enemy team leaving two enemy members the only ones standing.
Unfortunately, some of the Aerial’s limbs are already dismantled leaving it incapacitated. But they still earned the win by giving a headshot to the Michaelis thanks to Earth House’s sniper (Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury, Episode 9).
CONCLUSION

While the Gundam Aerial may have strong potential for its offensive capabilities because of the GUND-BITs and all, it’s still a bit of an unstable mobile suit since its parts easily get destroyed by enemies. The only thing that’s holding back the Aerial’s true power is pilot experience and durability and as long as they get to check those ones out, then surely it will be comparatively as strong as other Gundams such as Exia, Barbatos, Unicorn, and a whole lot more!
But still, we’re just at the early point of the series and the Gundam Aerial is already showing strong protagonist vibes just from the previous battles! I definitely can’t wait on what kind of improvements await for the mobile suit and the other types of Gundam that will show up! If you haven’t started the series yet, then you better get started right now! But if you already do, then let’s hope you stick through to the end!
