What to Expect?
Well expect nostalgia my friend. If you have watched Inuyasha when you were a child like me then, this spin-off is sure to give you nostalgia seeing your favorite characters like Inuyasha and Kagome briefly. Seeing them once again made me recall the journey that the couple that I love had been through. However, it’s better not to expect too much that they would appear every time, especially because the show revolves around the adventure of the new main characters.
If you haven’t watched Inuyasha yet, don’t worry, I will not spoil you little one. But if you happen to like Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon after watching it, then I suggest you should check it out. Mainly because the story on Inuyasha occurred before Yashahime. There might be references or lore that you might miss out if you haven’t watched the classic series yet. Therefore, if you like Fantasy Adventure anime consisting of drama, action, world building, and a romantic ending, then I highly recommend you should check out the show.
The Plot
The series revolves around the adventures of Towa Higurashi and Setsuna, half-demon twins, and Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome. The twin sister was once close as a child, but they were separated by fire after Setsuna risked her life to protect her. Towa Higurashi teleported to the present day, where she met Sota, her adoptive father.
Ten years later, Towa was 14 years old and her memories and the guilt that she felt for her twin sister slowly faded. But all of those changes when Setsuna and Moroha, along with a centipede demon, arrived in the present. The three fought and defeated the demon. Towa was shocked when she discovered Setsuna had no recollection of their past as a child nor recognized Towa as her sister. The three sought a way to return to the Feudal Era and discover a cure for Setsuna’s memory loss.
Main Characters
The series features a trio of beautiful main characters. They are relevant in the lore of the Inuyasha series because they are daughters of important characters. Spoiler, one is Inuyasha and Kagome’s daughter.
Towa Higurashi
Sex: Female | First Impression: Always gets into fight |
Birthday: March 30 |
She is the daughter of Seshomaru and Rin, and she’s also Setsuna’s twin sister. As told in the plot, she was teleported from feudal Japan to the present time when she was four years old.
She met Sota Higurashi who adopted her afterwards. Towa’s character design resembles a lot like Seshomaru with the kindness and trust that Rin had. I find her character very interesting; she didn’t belong in that period but she gained a lot of awareness towards her environment. She was introduced as a girl who loves her sister with all her heart, and that the incident that happened a few years ago slowly fades as time passes by.
Towa has a tomboyish vibe, which I appreciate especially with strong scenes of going against the gender norms, she didn’t like the idea of wearing appropriate clothing or acting feminine just because she’s a girl. She is also empathetic; this is due to the love and care that she received from Towa and his family. Which is why it was an observable trait that she had when they traveled in the feudal period. She wanted to help people and more importantly, return the memories of her twin sister.
Setsuna
Sex: Female | First Impression: She’s very serious. |
Birthday: March 30 |
She is the twin sister of Towa Higurashi who lost her childhood memories due to the curse of the dream Butterfly. She has a calm and a sober demeanor which resembles a lot like her father. Setsuna is a strong fighter who values the way of the demon slayer and will eliminate anyone who stands in her way. When the twin sisters reunited, Setsuna showed a little bit of ill nature towards Towa, unable to accept the fact that they were sisters.
What I love about this character is that despite having no memories and finding it difficult to accept that Towa is her sister because of her differences, Setsuna doesn’t fully disclose her, leaving a possibility of character development in the future.
Moroha
Sex: Female | First Impression: She talks a lot and very funny |
Birthday: Unknown |
Daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, Moroha is an obnoxious and rowdy character. She is a bounty hunter that sells parts to other Yokoi, she shows a greedy attitude towards money. She has great combat skills and was on equal terms against Setsuna when she first encountered her. Moroha upon teleporting in the present time was really goofy, and easily fits in with the people around her.
I love how she’s the perfect combination of Inuyasha and Kagome, and her outfit strikes resemblance to her father. I also love everything lines that come out of her mouth, whether it’s a chill moment or in a battle, words that come out of her mouth made me giggle.
