If you’re into some kickass action, adventure fiction, and historical anime, you definitely need to watch Vinland Saga. This anime gives us so many valuable life lessons along with complex character development, So, if you’re wise and want to learn more about life while moving forward, you should give it a go.
Don’t ever let someone control you or your emotions, I know that came out of nowhere but it’s one of the lessons in the anime, what can I do? You guys will surely have a lot of fun watching this anime, I’m sure.

Now, let’s talk about what exactly is this anime about? The story is set in the golden age of the 11th century, yes, definitely before you were born! Mainly the spotlight is set on a man named Thorfinn and his mission of avenging his father’s death. Sounds sad already, right? The main enemy is Askeladd who also goes by the name of Lucius Artorius Castus. Due to him, all the trouble of avenging began. He’s a very cunning man.
Anyways, the story of Vinland Saga is really sad and just hits your heart at the right spot. (SPOILER ALERT( While Thorfinn plans to kill Askeladd in an honorable way, we might expect a plot twist that the story’s more focused on the cast members including Askeladd. Anime Storyline:
Let’s talk about what exactly happened in season 1 of Vinland Saga! As I’ve explained in the introduction that the story is set up in an old century, during the England invasion. It’s a story of badasses, literally! Mature men taking revenge for their old dads? Like what could be more attractive than that, huh? We need REAL MEN like them!
Anyways, as the story proceeds, it lets us know about Thorfinn and his sad past. His father was murdered by none other than Askeladd. Therefore, he had to take revenge! He was labeled as the son of the “murdered ex-warrior”. The story combines the dramatization of King Canute the Great’s historical rise to power. We have seen a lot of samurai and knights in the anime market but we rarely see the blood-thirsty Vikings who actually enjoy killing their enemies. That went dark real quick.
Along with such an excellent revenge-centered storyline, the animation is AWESOME too! And there might not be many or any filler episodes in Vinland Saga but we do know for sure that it’s a good thing and now we’ll be able to enjoy a lot more of it! You know how there are characters who feel real and kinda human–ish? Do you feel me?
The characters of Vinland Saga feel really real, almost like humans. That’s why you connect with them on a deeper and deeper level. Overall, Vinland Saga is an epic manga and anime filled to the brim of badass action and battles that actually get your blood flowing. Now, I’ll let you guys know a bit more about the plot in depth! Plot
So fifteen years ago, the Viking commander, Thors Snorresson led a peaceful life in Iceland with his wife, Helga. Both of them had a son named Thorfinn, who was eager more than anybody to discover the paradise that goes by the name of Vinland.
One day, Jomsviking known as Floki arrives at this Iceland. Now, that sounds like trouble. His main mission was to kill Thorfinn’s dad by setting up a trap. His trap was that he would ask Thors Snorresson to indulge in a battle and will end up killing him. I’m not crying, you are! Floki wanted to punish Thorfinn’s dad for deserting the battle fifteen years prior.
No kids were allowed but our MC had to do something extraordinary to stand out as the main character. He sneaked up to the ship of Floki despite the orders to remain at home. With the trap going smoothly, Floki decided to kill Thors right there on the ship. WHAT THE HECK? Couldn’t he wait a bit more? Man, this is so messed up.
With Thors’ great strength and skill, he dodged some of the attacks and without using any deadly weapon. Let’s go Thors! However, that’s not the end… He was executed and Thorfinn was taken as a hostage. And that’s where the main story begins!
Thorfinn decides to join the Askeladd Crew to avenge his father’s death and constantly challenges his commanders to duel with him in order to know more about them and their skills. Pretty wise of him, right? Later on, the two Viking bands, the Danish Invasion of London & Askeladd’s crew decide to clash. And Just like that the story proceeds and after some battles, our boy aka Thorfinn gets stronger and stronger day by day. His blood boils whenever he thinks about his father’s death. And honestly, that was one of the saddest anime death and you can’t change my mind!

With the deep anime storyline and such complex character development (which is a good thing, don’t misunderstand) we’ve come to a conclusion that those who have never watched Vinland Saga will be going to HELL!
