Story

The Prince of TennisThe story introduces us to Ryouma Echizen, a tennis prodigy. His father told him to come back to Japan as he was living in America. He wanted Ryouma to continue playing tennis here in Japan. Ryouma decided to be the best at playing tennis so he got enrolled in Seishun Academy, the Academy known to house some of the best tennis players.

Ryouma impresses everyone with his tennis playing skills. The Captain had been noticing him for a while and he decided to make Ryouma play at the front lines even though he was still pretty new at the school. The tennis team was not really fond of Ryouma at first. However, when they saw how eager he was, they let him in.

The Seishun Academy Tennis team is all ready to play at the National Tournament. However, to reach there, they must take part in the Tokyo Prefectural and Kanto Regionals first. Their road to the top will not be an easy one as there are many skilled tennis players waiting to challenge them.

The Prince of Tennis Main Characters

Let’s talk a bit about some of the most amazing characters that The Prince of Tennis has for us!

1. Ryouma Echizen

ryoma

Ryoma Echizen is the main protagonist of the series. As a tennis prodigy, Ryouma is really confident when it comes to his tennis-playing skills. However, he doesn’t let his extraordinary skills get to his head. He keeps practicing and doesn’t go easy on himself. He can play 1v1 easily, but when it comes to doubles, he’s unable to show his real skills.

Ryouma has a habit of not paying attention to anyone he doesn’t have an interest in. He doesn’t remember their names or their existence, which offends a lot of people around him. This shows his arrogant nature. He also doesn’t trust other tennis players with their skills, the reason why he cannot play doubles. When Ryoma was new, he wasn’t taken seriously by the tennis team of his school. However, he was able to make his spot in the team after defeating two players.

ryouma

Ryouma stays calm and composed most of the time. He doesn’t get angry or overly emotional easily. He’s seen to provoke his opponents before a match and his opponents are barely able to keep their cool.

Our boy copied the style of his father while playing tennis. But his captain made him realize that he needs to create his own playing style. Ryouma is seen to always push himself to be even better at tennis.

2. Ryoga Echizen

ryogaRyoga Echizen is the brother of Ryoma that his father took in when his mother died. Ryoga was better at playing tennis than Ryoma initially. But with practice, Ryoma became equal to Ryoga. Ryoga is a cheerful guy who cares a lot about Ryoma. When he was supposed to leave the Echizen household and live with his aunt, he gave Ryoma an orange with a message on it that they will meet again someday.

Like Ryoga, Ryoma is also quite confident about his tennis-playing skills. He acts like a big brother to Ryoga, always protecting him. Just like his father, Ryoga is also a flirt. He reveals that Ryoma used to look up to him and also worshiped him, which Ryoma denied, of course. Ryoga is the one who taught Ryoma how to play tennis properly.

3. Shusuke Fuji

fujiShusuke Fuji is a very skilled tennis player and is currently in his third year of high school. He’s considered the second-best tennis player in his school. He’s very calm and composed all the time. He’s an absolute beast while playing tennis. He knows his skills and takes great pride in them.

Fuji has a younger brother, Yuta, and he’s very protective of him. He tends to take his revenge on those who had defeated his brother, and he absolutely destroys them while playing tennis. He also tends to tease Yuta. It’s his habit to tease those he’s fond of.

4. Kunimitsu Tezuka

tezuka

Kunimitsu Tezuka is the number 1 tennis player in his school and is the captain of the tennis team there. He’s tough, strict and serious. He has to be like this as the captain of his tennis team.
