WHAT IS SAMURAI CHAMPLOO ABOUT?
Samurai Champloo is a historical anime that has 26 episodes. As you know, most anime start with a manga and this is not an exception.
The setting of this anime is the historical period of Japan and this is fictional. Although, you will find some human realities in it.
So the first episode starts with a waitress named Fuu being harassed by the son of a prefectural politician in the restaurant. He is then taught a lesson by Mugen after Fuu asks for his protection in exchange for food.
There is a major fight between Mugen (the person she asked for protection in exchange for food) and Jin.
Jin is another samurai like Mugen who is a newcomer in the town. Jin sees a bodyguard assaulting someone. He then became furious and he gave the bodyguard what he deserved.
Jin mistook Mugen as a bodyguard of the prefectural politician, being disgusted with the bodyguard because he witnessed him committing an assault.
Personally, I’ve always thought that Fuu’s decision is for the best. She befriends Jin and Mugen and also requests that they both be her escorts, as she sees that they both are skillful samurai and are very powerful. Fuu may not be able to fight but she knows how to put her brain to good use.
They engaged in a vivacious fight, they destroyed the tea house where Fuu worked. Mugen and Jin are now arrested and sentenced to death but luckily for the both of them, Fuu comes to save them.
After that, the urge to fight against each other was still there but this calmed down after Fuu tossed a coin and told them that if it lands on tails, their fight would be postponed.
The two later found themselves friends as they fought battles together. This happened when Fuu asked the both of them after tossing the coin to follow her and find a samurai that smells of sunflowers.
In episode 2, the three of them are in desperate need of food and shelter. They then overhear that an ogre is on the loose.
So Mugen offers to kill it in exchange for what they need. But it was a trap set for the innkeeper by Ryujiro and his partner.
The innkeeper is killed and Fuu is kidnapped. Ryujiro sets an assassin against Jin while Fuu and her kidnapper become friends. The whole episode ended when Ryujiro died, and the assassin sent to kill Mugen left.
Samurai Champloo ends with Fuu being unable to exact her revenge on her father because he’s dying and was saying his last words.
Kagetoki allows Kasumi (Fuu’s father) to say his last words before killing him. Kagetoki also wants to kill Fuu but was stopped when Jin arrived and he was able to kill Kagetoki.
The fillers in Samurai Champloo are not so many. Most of the episodes are canon.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CHARACTERS
Now, I’ll be doing a characterization analysis on Samurai Champloo. The three characters listed below are the main characters:
Jin
Jin is a 20 years old Ronin (i.e a samurai without a master). He uses his waist-strung daishō to fight in the traditional style, the way all the regular samurai fight.
I’m really curious how this guy trained himself to do well to the extent that he’s able to beat masters in sword fights.
He has killed many masters due to self-defense in the past, and that is why many dojo members are inspired by him and follow him for his capabilities.
He is also a fashionable character. He has a good sense of fashion and he goes with the trend of that era. His glasses were the fashion trend.
He also has a pipe in his mouth that is used for smoking, but you will never see him smoking that pipe in the series.
Mugen
Mugen is an 18-year-old Ryukyu Islands prisoner who has become homeless. He fights in strange astonishing styles such as insane, unstable, arrogant, obscene, vulgar, and rude, in contrast to Jin.
He enjoys fighting and will initiate a fight for any reason, which makes him a somewhat unpleasant character.
He wears antique traditional footwear and wields a foreign sai-handled sword on his back. He’s more traditional than Jin. He dislikes his appearance. Mugen is a Japanese word that means “infinite”. Additionally, he was also a former pirate.
Fuu
Fuu is a lively 15-year-old girl who asks Mugen and Jin to locate “the samurai who smells of sunflowers.” Her father abandoned her and her mother for an unexplainable reason in the series.
She endured difficult days alongside her mother till she succumbed to an illness. She goes on a journey with Jin and Mugen after working as a waitress in a restaurant.
CONCLUSION
Well there you have it guys, this anime has little to no fillers at all so you are sure to be on the right track when comparing it to the manga. Which other anime would you like us to check out for you be sure to drop the name in the comments.
