We’re all humans and our fate is surely not in our hands. Although the Record of Ragnarok is one of the most fictionalized series, yet it is based on real beings from older eras which makes the storyline even more interesting. For some reason, people don’t really seem to like or binge-watch this show. So, if you’re into fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, and some kickass action, you should definitely give this anime a go!
This anime teaches us a lot of stuff too. It is a Japanese manga series written by Shinya Umemura who has been working on Record of Ragnarok solely. This anime is illustrated by Ajichika. It started airing on November 25, 2017, and there are a total of 11 volumes. It was released on June 17, 2021, with 12 episodes only. So, if you’re looking for a short anime, this might be a perfect pick, and guess what? It’s available on Netflix too!

Anime Storyline:
So first of all, imagine gods and humans fighting each other… That’s pretty intense, right? When it comes to diversity in characters, this anime won’t disappoint us. The fun fact is that there are more than 10 MCs in this anime. Now, let’s talk about the plot!
After every 1000 years, Gods’ Council assembles to decide the fate of naive humans. The Gods’ Council is something like the students’ council that we see in High School Anime. After 7 million years of human history, the gods come to the conclusion that humans are mortal and cannot be redeemed again and again so they must go extinct. BOOM! And that’s where all the feud took place.
However, there’s Valkyrie Brunhilde, who proposes to give humanity a chance. How nice, right? The Valkyrie wants humans to prove their worth to the gods and make their place in this world. So, everyone decides to hold a tournament that is none other than the battle of Ragnarok. 13 notable humans and 13 overpowering gods participate in the tournament engaging themselves in duels. That’s not the end, some died and some survived.
Humans will be spared if they get 7 victories from their side in the tournament. The Valkyrie takes the side of humans and is proved to be a powerful weapon for them. She basically is ready to be sacrificed to help humans. That’s like going out of one’s way to help others. Seriously though, if you do that, I don’t know what to say.
Summary of Record of Ragnarok
After 1000 years, the gods gathered at the council of Valhalla. No, that’s not your ordinary Valhalla gang from Tokyo Revengers. Anyways, similar to the basic plot of the anime, the Gods’ Council come to a conclusion that humans are irredeemable and must go extinct.
Brunhilde Valkyrie, leader of the Valkyries decides that Humans must be given a chance in order to prove their worth and value to this world. Not respecting Valkyrie’s decision, they asked for death! In the end, they decided to hold a tournament. GODS VS HUMANS! I’m SHOOK!
As the story proceeds, Lu Bu who’s one of the representatives of humans, forces Thor to fight him. Thor is literally very strong! He’s a god representative and is also known as the god of war. The fight between them was very intense, you need to watch it!
The battle between Lu Bu and Thor isn’t over! Brunhilde is doing her best to help humans. She calls her fourth sister, Randgriz, to help Lu Bu to fight. The story continues and Lu Bu ends up breaking his legs from Thor’s intense attack. He ends up losing his weapon along with his legs. See! That’s why you should not mess with the gods!
Zeus is a god representative as well who goes against Adam taking the place of Shiva. He decides to fight Adam barehanded. OOF! The guts! But Adam doesn’t come slow when he uses his “copying enemy’s attack” technique. Now, things get interesting. Adam is overpowering Zeus and at that moment, we get to see Zeus’ true form.

Seeing all the situation with Adam, Humans get hope that they will also be able to defeat gods. Next round begins, The Greek God of Sea & Elderly Kojiro Sasaki appears. Valkyrie’s involvement throughout the anime is just amazing. She possessed Kojiro Sasaki’s sword. However, Valkyrie Brunhilde tells Kojiro Sasaki the story of the Greek God of Sea which lets him give up. Kojiro sits on the ground and gives up.
That’s the final battle and it isn’t over until it’s over, right? Kojiro keeps up with the battle, seeing how Valkyrie Brunhilde did her best for humans to win, he ends up defeating the Greek god of sea. At last, the gods acknowledge humans’ worth.
