WHAT IS RANMA½?
Ranma is a manga series that was written and drawn by Rumiko Takahashi. The series serialized every Shonen Sunday that begins in August of 1987 and ends in March of 1996, and Shogakukan compiled the chapters into a total of 38 tankobon volumes.
PLOT
The main character of the manga is a young man by the name of Ranma Saotome who’s been practicing various forms of martial arts ever since he was a little kid.
As a consequence of an incident that happened while he was on a training excursion, he is afflicted to transform into a girl when he is splashed with cold water, but he can revert back to being a boy when he is hit with hot water. Throughout the course of the series, Ranma searches for a solution to free himself from the curse that he was born with, despite the continual obstruction and interference from his friends, foes, and several future wives.
Ranma 1/2 follows a tried-and-true format of comedy storytelling and features a gender-bending protagonist who often and on purpose assumes a female persona in order to achieve his objectives. The majority of the storylines in the series are driven by the complicated connections between the many characters, as well as their peculiar qualities and personalities.
The series also has a large cast of supplementary characters. After they have been thoroughly established in the series and given their roles, the characters as well as the dynamics of their relationships almost never undergo significant changes.
CHARACTERS
Ranma Saotome
Ranma Saotome, 16, grew up on training excursions with his dad. In Jusenkyo, China, he plunged into a spring and became a girl. Since that day, he transforms into a lady when wet, and back into a guy when wet. He is betrothed to Soun Tendo’s daughter Akane by consent of his father as well as Soun.
He has various more love interests, including okonomiyaki chef and boyhood buddy, Ukyo Kuonji, and Kodachi Kuno, Tatewaki Kuno’s younger sister. He became in love with Akane but refuses to accept it. When some other guy expresses common interest with her, he becomes envious, unhappy, or anxious.
Genma Saotome
Genma Saotome studied with Happosai. The slaves ultimately imprisoned him in a cave as well as started their separate schools. Genma brought Ranma on frequent training trips from an early age. To get Nodoka to agree to the idea, he threatened to kill them both if he didn’t make Ranma into such a “man-among-men”. He brought Ranma to visit Jusenkyo since he read about that in some Chinese brochure, despite not knowing Chinese.
Genma plunged into a cursed spring during their training, gaining a gigantic panda curse. He isn’t bothered by his curse, particularly since he can escape in panda form. He as well as Ranma travel to Japan to complete the arrangement of marriage among Ranma and Akane. He disguises himself as a panda to avoid his wife, who thinks Ranko, female form of Ranma, keeps “Mr. Panda” like a pet.
Nodoka Saotome
Nodoka Saotome, Ranma and Genma’s mother. But she hasn’t seen them since their training more than a decade ago. Genma decided to support Ranma since a devoted mother would hamper his training. A failure meant he as well as Ranma would perform seppuku, a Samurai ceremonial suicide. She always seems to have a katana alongside her. They spent much behind the appearance of Nodoka from her as Ranko, a cousin of Akane, and her pet Mr. Panda, thanks to Ranma’s curse. The heart of Nodoka was continually wounded by her like seeing her son again. She is disinterested in Genma.
