1. East Blue Saga
Warship Island Arc (Episode 54 – Episode 61)

The Warship Island is the first-ever filler Arc of One Piece. It covers the story of Apis and how she escaped from the marines. This Arc took place when Luffy had just received his bounty of 30,000,000 and the crew was about to enter the Grand Line.
To explain the plot briefly, a Marine fleet from Branch 8 is seen sailing during a rainstorm and during that storm, a girl who the viewers do not know plans to escape from the ship. She manages to sneak across the guards but is quickly seen and chased across the deck. She gets herself trapped on the mast of the ship and unintentionally opens the sail. This causes the ship to go out of control and she manages to escape by jumping off the mast onto a boat. She is seen chanting to herself “Ryuji protect me”.
After hearing the escape news, Nelson Royale, the captain of the 8th branch, gets upset and summons a mercenary named Eric. Eric is then sent after the girl to get her back.

The next morning, Luffy acts like the usual man baby and annoys Nami by asking her when they will reach the Grand Line. Usopp on the other hand spots Apis floating on a raft and mistakes her for fish. Luffy catches her and finds a very confused Apis. Apis finally wakes up only to find out she is now on a pirate ship and starts to panic. Later she is reassured to learn that these pirates are good.
Eventually, she tells them about how she escaped from Marine Branch 8 and is running from Commodore Nelson. As the straw hats agree to return her to the warship, they are bombarded by Branch 8. After escaping from the Marines, Luffy and his crew get chased by sea kings near the Calm Belt.
They continue to sail for the warship and find out Apis has the Devil Fruit power to talk to animals and she is friends with Sennenryu, an old dragon. She wants to guide Sennenryu to return to his homeland but they have to face the Marine fleet and they do not know where Sennenryu’s homeland is. But aren’t you curious what Devil Fruit you might have base on your personality? Then why not try our Personality Quiz!
The Arc consists of the Straw hats protecting Apis and Finding Sennenryu’s homeland.
2. Arabasta Saga
Post-Arabasta Arc (Episode 131 – Episode 135)

The Post Arabasta Arc is based on all the Straw hat crew member’s past and their goals. Only Luffy and Robin don’t get a filler episode in this Arc. Each episode of this Arc is about a different crew member. So, we are going to explain it in the parts below.
The Straw Hat Pirates land on an island and set out to find food. In the meantime, Chopper is on the ship and he reminisces about his first patient, Doctorine, and how he cured her. That is also the same period when he first made the rumble ball.

Nami buys 1000 sheets of durable papers from a salesman and tries to transfer her old maps onto the new paper. As she starts her world map drawing, she remembers how it all started but she gets constantly interrupted by the crew. In the end, she finally finishes her first map.
This filler episode contains Sanji teaching a young novice cook of the marine ship how to make the perfect curry. The story starts with the Straw Hat Pirates crashing into a marine ship.
They try to sneak away in the dense fog but Tajio, the cook of that ship, falls over to the Straw Hat’s ship and tastes their food. After that, he asks Sanji to teach him how to cook like this. They board a vessel and Sanji teaches Tajio until the fog disappears. He gives the kid some criticism and leaves him with lots of tips on cooking. At the end of the show, Tajio made the perfect curry.

In episode 134, we focus more on Usopp and how he tries to make a girl smile. The Straw Hat crew land on an island and make plans to see the famous fireworks. In the meantime, Usopp becomes friends with Kodama, the granddaughter of the pyrotechnics director.
Usopp learns about her wish and how she wants to fire off a giant firecracker just like her parents. Her parents died last year during the fireworks show as an accident when the fireworks happened. Now, Usopp is determined and helps Kodama’s grandfather with his firework tasks. He launched the big firecracker and made Kodama happy and left in hope of becoming a great sea warrior in the future.

This one might be the most meaningful and interesting backstory yet. In the East Blue, years back, Zoro entered a pub and paid for his meal with a bounty. Two other bounty hunters, Johnny and Yosaku get frustrated at this and confront Zoro. They tell him the bounty was theirs and he took all the credit. Zoro laughed it off and let them take the remaining bounty and the credit. After that Zoro goes to the swordsmith to repair his sword, Wado Ichimonji.
During that time, the bounty’s big brother starts robbing the town and hunts the bounty hunter that harmed his little brother. Johnny, being ashamed of his cowardly personality, refused to leave and tried to become a real bounty hunter like Zoro. But Johnny and Yasaku both got beaten up by Big Brother. Zoro hears the commotion and runs across the town and defeats the robbers, only to be woken up by a cannon fired by Usopp.
3. Sky Island Saga
Goat Island Arc (Episode 136 – Episode 138)

This Filler Arc is about the Straw Hats meeting an old dying man and his island of goats. Our story starts with the Straw Hat Pirates being chased by the Marines as usual. The Marine ships were commanded by Minchey. While the Going Merry was being attacked, our loveable pirates were starved and did not have the strength to fight back. This made Nami very worried but Zoro suggested that she look forward as there was a dense fog in front of them.
The Straw Hats narrowly escape for the time being and arrive on an island while the Marine ship crashes into a reef. Minchey is then reminded that Captain Moore gave strict orders to capture the Straw Hat Pirates.
After arriving at the island, Luffy and his crew spotted a young goat and tried to hunt it for food but the clever goat lured them into a trap made by an old man. While Zoro and Sanji were getting ready to fight back, Chopper stopped them and communicated with the goat. He found out that the old man was hiding nearby. The old man got exposed and tried to escape but got caught in branches. Zoro quickly cuts off the branches and the old man faints.

The crew thinks he just fainted because of Zoro’s katana but after Chopper did a checkup, he found out that the old man’s heart had stopped. They asked the goat to show them the old man’s house and take him there. After waking up, the old man was as grumpy as ever and made the Straw Hats do all of his chores.
Later on, Luffy and the others wanted to leave the island because they did not want to do chores anymore. But Chopper insisted that they stay because he predicts the old man has only 3 days to live. That and they just lost their ship to the old man in a game of chess and now they have to win it back.
Meanwhile, on the marine ship, Minchey found out there was a legendary pirate money lender named Zenny, who got lost in these islands years ago and by this time he should be near his death. If he could catch Zenny and the Straw Hats, then he could get Zenny’s treasure and the captain’s praise. He secretly wanted to keep the treasure for himself. So, as the fog cleared up, the marines made their move and attacked the island.

Turns out, the old man on the island is actually Zenny himself and after Zenny told the crew his identity, Nami was trying to make him tell where he hid his treasures. At that moment the marines attacked and the Straw Hats were getting ready to fight back. Zenny insisted that they should not fight since they had only one ship and they should run away from this island. They had a big showdown in the end and Zenny revealed that all of his treasure was converted to cash which was then eaten by goats of this island. That’s the reason he calls these goats his treasure.
Finally, Minchey was double-crossed by a snitch who told everything to Captain Moore and the captain got furious. After the big fight, the Straw Hats leave after handing over Minchey to Captain Moore and Captain Moore allows them to leave as well as choosing their battle location next time.
Ruluka Island or Rainbow Mist Arc (Episodes 139-143)

Many fans call this Arc the Rainbow Mist Arc. The story starts off as Luffy and his Crew are being pursued by the Marines led by Major Rapanui Pasqua and Isoka. The Straw hats narrowly escape the marines when the major accidentally fires at one of his fleet ships. The Straw Hats make their path to Ruluka island and find out that the island is dictated by an ex-pirate. The dictator seems to be taxing people in order to create the Rainbow Tower.
The island also has a researcher named Henzo. He seemed to be interested in researching something called the Rainbow Mist. Later on, it is revealed that his research is backed up and sponsored by the unscrupulous Wetton, who is the mayor of the city and also an ex-pirate.

As the events unfold, the Going Merry, accompanying everyone except Sanji, Nami, and Chopper aboard get trapped in the Rainbow Mist. Inside the mist, the Straw Hats discover that there are children stuck in the mist for years and promise them to get out of here safely. After they finally find their way out of the mist, the marines surround them and the children seem to have disappeared.
Later on, it is revealed that the marines who are standing in front of them are the trapped children. The Marines then let the Straw Hats go since they had caught a bigger and worse culprit, Wetton and his gang. The Filler ends with a giant ship that falls in front of the Going Merry from the sky leaving our pirates shocked.
G-8 Arc (196-206)

For a filler Arc, this storyline is really long. Let’s try to keep it short. When our favorite Pirates land in the middle of marine base G-8, they get surrounded and as a result have to abandon the Going Merry to survive. The crew members get separated and are forced to disguise themselves and hide in the base. Their only way out is their ship which is now somewhere in the base and they have to find it.
Sanji and Luffy disguise themselves as famous cooks named Marley Brothers. While exploring they meet Jessica, the head cook, and are forced to show her the true meaning of cooking since she insulted Sanji’s cooking skills. Looks like Sanji’s ego as a chef got a little hurt. No matter, he impresses her with his cooking skills and tries to find the Going Merry.
In another location of the base, Nami disguises herself as a janitor and meets the real Marley Brothers. She gives them wrong directions to the kitchen and the Marley Brothers get lost in the huge marine base. She also meets Zoro and accidentally gets him captured by the hands of non-other than the vice-admiral of G-8, Jonathan.

Then there are Usopp and Robin, they wind up in the same place. Usopp and Robin go their separate ways as Robin wanted to gather information and Usopp wanted to find the Going Merry. With all these separate commotions going on, another obstacle arrives at G-8. Special investigator Shepherd came here to prove that G-8 is useless. However, before he could get in contact with Jonathan, Robin ambushes him and leaves him unconscious.
Usopp finds some marine clothes and decides to disguise himself as a marine rookie. He finds the Going Merry and has a chat with the shipwright Mekao. Suddenly Lieutenant Drake arrives and catches Usopp lying. Usopp tries to talk his way out of this situation when Robin arrives in Jonathan’s office disguised as Shepherd. Usopp sees her and tells them that he is her assistant. But Robin says he is lying and Usopp gets thrown in the brig with Zoro. Talk about a friendly clash between these two.
Meanwhile, Chopper meets with Dr.Kobato, who cannot look at blood despite being a doctor. Chopper decides to help her out with the injured marines and Nami joins him disguised as a nurse. Are you guys keeping up with the story?

In the kitchen, Sanji and Luffy blow their cover when Jonathan recognizes them. They are forced to flee and the real agent Shepherd is found unconscious and is dragged to the dungeon because they thought he was with Straw Hat Pirates.
Luffy and Sanji find out Zoro and Usopp are in jail and plan to free them. But Jonathan planned an ambush for them with Lieutenant Drake. Usopp and Sanji break the Seastone prison and they try to flee just to find themselves in front of a deadly bridge. Luffy breaks part of the bridge while crossing and everyone falls into the ocean.
In the meantime, Robin is the only one who has not been discovered and she finds the Going Merry at Dock 88. When the rest of the crew arrive, Luffy gets trapped in a Seastone net and they get surrounded by marines. Chopper and Nami use Dr.Kobato as a hostage to get on board their ship. Makao sees all this play out and decides to release the Going Merry into the water.

I know, it’s hard to keep up with all these characters popping out of nowhere. Robin shows up with a map of the base and they immediately hide the Going Merry in an abandoned dock. Usopp uses junk to disguise the ship as a navy ship. After that, the team split up into two teams. One to find the treasure gained at Skypiea and the other to find Nami’s waver.
They end up in another ambush planned by Jonathan and I swear this one is the last ambush. The crew has a big fight with the marines and luckily Shepherd opens the gate to Luffy and his crew’s escape. They flee from the base. They are then faced with shallow water and Usopp has to use the Impact Dial with Luffy, producing the same octopus used to exit Skypiea to blast their ship out of the base’s jurisdiction and finally escape.
4. Water 7 Saga
Ocean’s Dream Arc (220-224)

This filler is probably the first advertisement–based filler in One Piece. The Ocean’s Dream Arc is based on the Oceans’ Dream PlayStation video game. So, the story goes like one starry night. The Straw Hat pirates were sleeping in their ship that was docked on an island. Only Robin was awake, reading a book. She heard a weird flute playing in the distance and that’s where our main culprit is first seen playing a seahorse-shaped instrument.
The next morning, Robin greets Nami only just to find out she has no memories of their adventures or her crewmates. In the other room, Chopper, Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, and Zoro all get frustrated about where they are and what they are doing on a ship. Chopper gets frightened to find himself among humans. As Robin tries to refresh Nami’s memories she finds herself not knowing much about her crew-members as she recently joined. It seems that all the crew-members remember nothing about their adventures and want to go back to their hometown as that’s the only memory they have.

As the tension rises in the room, Nami and Zoro leave the ship and explore the island in hopes to find a ship to sail back. While exploring the island Nami finds herself among the village people who have also lost their memories.
Meanwhile, in the ship Robin tells everyone about the weird whistle she heard last night and tries to solve the mystery. The next night the whistling boy strikes again but this time he is surprised that everyone is awake and ready to ambush him. But during the commotion, the boy escapes.

The next day Luffy instructs everyone to find Zoro and Nami. Luffy finds Nami and forces her to help him find Zoro. Usopp and Chopper explore separately and find Zoro. They bring him back. Surprisingly Zoro attacks Luffy after meeting up. Luffy understands that Zoro has been hypnotized and tells everyone to go ahead without him as Luffy was trying to get Zoro to join him. It seems like Nami and Zoro are the only ones who are still confused about the situation.
The rest of the team finds the flute user near a lake and attacks him. Sanji initiates first and during his fight touches the flute and his memories get returned to him. Behind him, everyone else joins in and Luffy beats up the seahorse until everyone gets their memories back. As the big showdown ends, the Straw Hats rejoice in hope that the village will reward them for solving this issue. But it seemed, the memories got mixed up and everyone thinks the Straw Hat pirates were the reason for their memory loss. Finally, the crew gets forced to rush back to their ship and leave the island.
Foxy’s Return Arc (Episode 225 – Episode 228)

This one is a fun little encounter with Foxy that later led to the Straw Hat pirates meeting Aokiji. The story takes place sometime after the Ocean’s Dream Arc. One day the Straw Hat Pirates were caught in a storm and by chance or god’s wish or maybe the mangaka’s wish they came across Foxy, Porche, and Hamburg. They were sailing on a small boat. Foxy was using his devil fruit powers to stop waves from hitting their boat but the ship was in danger of being tipped over. That’s why Luffy lifted them up and let them hitch a ride on the Going Merry.
That night Foxy told them about what happened and why he was on a small boat. The next day they came across Foxy’s Ship, the Sexy Foxy (Yes, that’s the name).

Foxy tears up when he reunites with his crew but it is later revealed that his crew has now joined Fanged Toad Pirates. Apparently, they took over while Foxy was absent. The new captain points out to Foxy that his crew refuses to swear loyalty to him. Foxy gets furious at this and requests a one-on-one, captain vs captain battle for his crew.
Foxy uses his Noro Noro Beam but it gets reflected back at him by his own crewmate. They gang up on him and beat Foxy up. Luffy gets furious at this and tells them it was a one-on-one fight.
The captain of Fanged Toad pirates replies that he never agreed to the one-on-one battle. After seeing the desperation of Foxy, Luffy rushes in and saves Foxy. The Straw Hat crew then beat up the Fang Frog pirates and Foxy opens up a trap door to escape with his crew. With that, the episode ends with them escaping. Later this leads to the Straw Hats meeting Aokiji.
5. Thriller Bark Saga
Ice Hunter or Accino Family Arc (Episode 326-335)

Another big filler with lots of detailed characters. This one is going to take a while to explain. So, let’s get started. The Straw Hat Pirates were sailing on their new ship, the Thousand Sunny. They encounter a damaged ship and decide to help the crew members. But to their surprise, these crewmembers were part of the Accino Family and tricked Luffy and his crew into believing that they were in need of help. They were bounty hunters that were after the Straw Hat pirate bounties.
They trap the Straw Hats by using hundreds of fake marine ships and drive them into a dead end. After that happened, The Straw Hats did some exploring and found out the former Phoenix Pirates sailed into the New World but were defeated. They were defeated by the Accaino family and were forced to join the family but their loyalty still stays with their captain.

They say, when their heavily injured captain recovers, they will leave this place and become bounty hunters. While the bounty hunters were pulling the Thousand Sunny with a rope, mysterious underwater eruptions occur, and the rope breaks.
The Straw Hat ship gets trapped and they encounter Lil, Salchow, Arbel, and Hockera. They threaten Luffy’s crew and tell them they will die here if they try to escape. Franky, being the smart ass that he is, blasts Thousand Sunny to safety with its Coup de Burst. But during that commotion, Luffy’s pirate flag gets picked up by the Accino family.
While being chased the Straw Hat pirates face trouble with all the icebergs blocking their way. Franky and Nami think something seems fishy and use Shark Submerge to go under the Icebergs. There they discovered that the icebergs were being moved by penguins to block their way.

An iceberg is then rammed into the ship and Usopp and Sanji go overboard. After coming back to the surface Franky and Nami go face to face with Hockera. Robin is confronted by Lik. Sanji and Usopp face Salchow and Arbell. Looks like we are going to have a big fight.
While all this was happening, our Zoro was lost as usual. He finds himself in front of an ice mansion while wandering around. Luffy was in the middle of a fight against Brindo and got himself chained up. Usopp and Sanji on the other hand were also getting a beating of their life. Mostly Sanji was getting beat up, Usopp actually was able to take down Arbell. But they both only enrage Salchow and lose the fight.
Meanwhile, Zoro explores the castle and gets noticed by a very drunk Don Accino. Then we switch views to the Phoenix pirate ship where Brindo is captured. Puzzle offers himself for the crew but it is disrupted by Jiro who tells Campacino on a Den Den Mushi, if they did anything, Brindo would be killed. Luffy and Chopper confront Brindo and Campacino but soon get knocked off the ship, into the sea. Thankfully they manage to land on an iceberg.

Zoro confronts Accino and has a drink with him because why not. Accino shows him his pirate flag collection and whips out his latest flag, Zoro realizes that’s the Straw Hat’s flag and they prepare for battle. Zoro tries to slash Accino but all of his slashes go through Accino. But he manages to almost hit one of Accino’s collections of flags and he gets furious. Accino summons his children and manages to trap Zoro in a dungeon.
Zoro finally joins his crew-members in the dungeon and they escape the jail using Franky’s Coup de Vent. Now, the free Straw Hats search for their flag and they actually let Zoro lead the way, I think everyone knows where this is going. They got lost and had to split up to find the flag. Luffy joins in later on and they face off with the Accino Family. The Straw Hats have one last battle with the Accino family and beat up most of the Family members.
Finally, Luffy fights Don Accino and saves everyone from the Phoenix pirates, and leaves the island as the island was starting to crumble because of Luffy and Accino’s fight.
Spa Island Arc (382-384)

This is a mini-Arc where the Straw Hats meet up with Foxy and his crew. The story starts with Straw Hats already on the island and everyone is relaxing or having fun. The Straw hats get noticed by a young girl and she introduces herself as Lina (Wish Senpai would notice me like that). She has a pet raccoon named Nukky. Nukky is a special pet that shapeshifts. Lina also has a sister named Sayo.
Lina was protecting a notebook and did not feel safe on that island. That’s why she wanted to leave the island as soon as possible. While she was leaving, a random Foxy appeared in front of her and challenged her to a battle. Wait a minute! Wrong reference. Foxy and his crew were after her notebook. Foxy uses a mecha and his Noro Noro powers to slow everyone and he steals the notebook.
Franky and Brook suddenly enter the scene and are surprised to see everyone falling to their doom. After getting the order to defeat Foxy, Franky shoots his weapons and defeats Foxy. Luffy joins in and uses his Gomu Gomu no Bazooka to knock Foxy and his crew into the ocean.

Lina finally explains the secret to her notebook after being saved by the Straw Hats. Apparently, she and her sister are daughters of a scientist who discovered a way to make a genuine gem. But the villagers ridiculed her father and bullied Lina and her sister. Their father could not take it anymore and one day went on an expedition, leaving both daughters on the island.
After that incident, a year passed and a letter arrived announcing their father had died (Fake letter) and he wanted them to finish the research. Both Lina and her sister were furious and sad because of their father. Fast forward to the present day, as she was telling the story, Sayo gets kidnapped by Foxy’s crew.
The Straw Hats and the Foxy pirates had a bit of a showdown later on and Sayo revealed that their father dedicated this research to give Lina his first gem and that he did not die or leave them. This eventually makes Lina’s heart melt and forgives her father.
A few days later, Luffy receives a letter where Lina and Sayo tell them they had succeeded in making that gem and their father had returned home.
6. Summit War Saga
Little East Blue Arc (426-429)

Our story begins with a character named Shiki who manages to break out of Impel Down by cutting off his legs. He uses his devil fruit abilities to fly and escape. The story then transitions into the present day when we see a submarine carrying the Amigo pirates. Their leader is Largo and his brother Corto.
Meanwhile, our favorite Straw Hat pirates are seen fishing because Luffy ate most of their rations. Suddenly, they get attacked by a large horned beetle, and Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, and Zoro get abducted by the beetle. They get to meet Yoko on that island. He says the large horned beetle named Boss is like the guardian of the island. He probably captured Luffy and his crew as they are pirates.
Soon after, they meet the rest of the residents of the island and realize the islanders are fans of the Straw hat pirates. They even made a small replica of East Blue on their island.
They call it Little East Blue. They know about all the Straw Hat adventures and what they did around the world. The rest of the crew soon arrive at the island after Usopp gives them a call and Nami gets to see her fans on the island who made literal shrines of her.

Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji explore the island, visiting their replica homes and villages. They got nostalgic but while they were exploring, Yoko was spying on them. For some reason, she disapproves of any pirates on the island.
Later on, they have a banquet, and Luffy as usual stuffs himself till he is disproportionate. While they were celebrating, the Amigo pirates crashed the party and demanded to see Boss. They attack the residents but Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy interfere and take them down. Luffy was about to finish off Carto but Largo makes an appearance and saves him. He traps the Straw Hat pirates and once again demands Boss. It appears that they want to capture Boss and probably use him to do despicable things.

When Largo and Carto try to destroy the town, Boss appears and agrees to give himself up to save the town. While Boss was about to get into the cage, Luffy managed to tear his net and punch Largo. They start to have a rematch and Luffy activates his Gear Second. They fight across the forest and have one last standoff near the shore. The other crewmates of the Straw Hat pirates manage to take down the other members of the Amigo Pirates.
Luffy manages to beat Largo and finally, Luffy and Boss have one last battle to see who is more powerful? After witnessing the aftermath, Yoko finally understands that not all pirates are bad and bids a wholesome farewell to the Straw Hat pirates.
7. Dressrosa Saga
Z’s Ambition Arc (575-578)

Z’s Ambition Arc (575-578)- This filler was made to set us, the viewers, up for the next movie, One Piece Film: Z. The story is detailed but let’s try to summarize it as much as we can.
The Straw Hats arrive in the new world to take shelter from a big storm. To their surprise, they get surrounded by marine warships. While Usopp and Chopper panic, Luffy orders everyone to fight back. As they all prepare to fight, Nami tells them the ships are disappearing. She explains it was just a mirage.
The crew doesn’t get a chance to relax as giant raindrops drop on them and they have just entered the Maubeugermour Sea, the home of the wildest weather conditions. The rain then turns into giant chunks of hail and an avalanche of snow starts falling from the sky.
The crew tries their hardest to protect the ship. But all their efforts fail as the sea splits in half and they are about to fall. Franky uses his Coup de Burst to launch the ship to safety but it seems luck is not on their side. They get struck by lightning mid-air.

Later on, the Straw Hats dry up but now the weather is hot and scorching hot. Everyone gets frustrated and hungry, so Sanji cooks them some food. But the food starts to disappear. Luffy sees a small figure running away and starts chasing after it. The small figure then flips Franky and turns into a giant. Luffy gets angry and uses his devil fruit powers to toss her off the ship. As she is also a devil fruit user, she could not swim. Sanji, being our lover boy, jumps in and saves her.
When she wakes up, she is greeted by the Straw Hats and she explains that she is a giant who ate the mini mini no Mi fruit. This is when she formally introduces herself as Lily Enstomach.
Lily explains more about how she is an expert in volcano cooking. After hearing her skills, Luffy fantasizes about food. As they were talking about food, Lily explains her father was being taken to Impel Down as he used to steal from the world government and pirates to feed the starving.

Luffy feels sad for Lily and offers his help to save her father from the marines. But there was a catch. For helping her rescue her father, they have to get rewarded by the delicious volcanic food. Lily happily agrees to this offer and they start their journey.
The Straw Hat’s ship catches up to the marine ship and is awed by the security; they have to hold only one prisoner. Luffy was about to rush in but Nami chose to stop him and make a more covert plan. Luffy is paired up with Copper, Robin, and Brook as the diversion while Sanji, Usopp, Zoro, and Lily go onboard the ship and save her father. Franky is ordered to stay on board and become their getaway driver.
As the plan was about to be executed, Luffy acts like a smart ass again and goes with Sanji’s group because he thought that part of the mission was more exciting. Now Nami is frustrated and just goes on with the plan hoping Luffy won’t sabotage them.

On the marine ship, we get to see Vice Admiral Momonga interrogating Panz Fry aka Lily’s father. He was telling the marines he stole the food only to return it to the villagers that the marines took it. This left that village starving and they might die because of the marines.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats get onboard the marine ships and wreak havoc. They fight the marines and rescue Lily’s father. They use Coup de Burst to swiftly get away from the area and dock at a secret location.
The final chapter of this Arc focuses on Luffy vs Shuzo. You might be wondering, who Shuzo is? Shuzo was a former marine who was on board that ship when all this happened and took it upon himself to stop Luffy and his crew. Shuzo fights every one of the Straw Hats and in the end, has a big showdown with Luffy. They have a hard fight with Shuzo, as he’s winning most of the time but in the end, Luffy manages to beat Shuzo and they sail off into the New World.
During the last few minutes of the filler, we get to see Ain and Z, two mysterious characters talking about Shuzo’s fate and this is what led to the next movie.
Caesar Retrieval Arc (626-628)

The story takes place when a mysterious person kidnaps Caesar from the Straw Hats and is on the way to Dressrosa. After the Straw hats and Trafalgar Law left Punk Hazard with Caesar, they were anxious about a sudden ambush. Their fears came true when a group of dark figures attacked the Straw Hats and captured Caesar from them.
They chase the mysterious characters and board their ship using the submarine in the Thousand Sunny. They get to know about Breed, the leader of the group who has now locked Caesar in a cell and intends to sell Caesar’s scientific knowledge to the underworld and destroy the world, eventually creating his dream world.
The Straw Hats do a bit of exploring in the ship and are ambushed again by mysterious shadowy figures. They defeat them and it turns out the figures were animals enslaved by Breed. Chopper comes across Breed and Breed uses his ability to turn Chopper into his slave. Chopper is then ordered to stop Luffy and Law.
Chopper could not control his body and attacked Luffy. Law tries to stop Chopper but Luffy gets in the way because of NAKAMA POWER or some serious Anime Logic. By this time, Breed sneaks up and puts collars on Luffy and Law.

Now, Luffy, Law, and Caesar are all prisoners. Then we see Breed being all cute and dressing up Chopper but Chopper did not want to be a princess and so he scratches Breed. This angers Breed and he whips Chopper. Luffy gets angered after seeing that and because of his insults, Luffy is now forced to fight against Law in a deathmatch. Dugong, a former animal friend of Luffy and now a controlled slave, tries to reason with Breed but is instead ordered to beat up Luffy and Law. He punches them breaking the glass and they fall into the sea.
As Dugong grieves their death, we get surprised by Luffy and Law bursting through the wall with Caesar this time. Law gives the viewers a briefing on how they escaped and how they can not be controlled by Breed now. Luffy and Law have one final showdown with Breed, beating Breed and saving everyone on the ship.
8. Four Emperors Saga
Silver Mine Arc (747-750)

The Silver Mine Arc is a filler that was made to connect the story with the next movie, One Piece Film: Gold. Our story starts with Luffy waking up and going somewhere when Bartolomeo, a die-hard fan of Luffy, followed him. But what he didn’t notice was that they were being followed by kidnappers.
The Kidnappers were led by Desire and Peseta. They caught Luffy and Bartolomeo and took them to the Silver Mine, a deserted island. Inside the mine, they were forced to mine for ore while Luffy was imprisoned. They planned to kill Luffy; however, Bartolomeo came to rescue him with his barrier abilities. That’s when Luffy got to know more about Bartolomeo and the Sweet Pirates who captured them.
There Bartolomeo, Luffy, and Desire found themselves trapped inside the mines and being chased. Desire was shocked to find out she was also being attacked despite being on the enemy team. She was heartbroken. Desire turned on Averyron, who was chasing them and Bartolomeo freed Luffy. After his hands were freed, Luffy defeated Averyon and the three of them formed a team.

Desire convinced the other miners to escape with them but they were attacked by Peseta. That’s when Law and Kinemon made their appearance and saved everyone. Later on, Peseta confronted them again but this time he had hostages. Zoro arrived at the right time and freed the hostages. He then proceeded to fight Peseta.
The pirates and the miners ran towards their freedom but Desire wanted to set things straight with Bill. Bill tried taunting Desire but Luffy barged in and overwhelmed him with his attacks. Bill was beaten to a pulp when Tanaka appeared in front of him and said the monsters of the new world would be disappointed after seeing his defeat.
After hearing that Bill was afraid for his own life and went into rampage mode while eating ore from the mines. This made him grow larger and he started destroying the island. He gave one last shot into chasing Luffy and the pirates. Finally, Luffy defeated him with his Grizzly Magnum and the chase ended.
The island was breaking apart, the miners and the pirates jumped on a boat and sailed towards safety. Later on, we see Tanaka talking to the Monster of New World and the episode ends with a huge cliffhanger leading on to the next movie.
Marine Rookie Arc (780-782)

The Marine Rookie Arc started because someone (Luffy) ate all their food again and now the Straw Hats have no food left. So, the Straw Hats had to dock on a marine basecamp island in hopes to get some food and escape. Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Carrot, and Brook went to explore the island, while the rest of the team guarded the ship.
On the island, Vice Admiral Prodi watched as Grount, a captain, was sparing with the other marines. Later on, Prodi called Garp to ask why Grount was transferred here? He discovered that Garp send Grount there to take down Big Mom.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats knocked out a group of marines and disguised themselves as marine crewmembers. Luffy and Carrot found the cafeteria and got their hands on some food. Grount also went to the cafeteria where he met Bonham and Zappa.
This was a serious situation for our favorite pirates when Nami and Chopper entered the scene and Zappa immediately fell for Nami’s looks. Some marines found the injured marines and the alarm was activated. Nami and Chopper quickly went into the rations room to get as many rations as they could.

While they were stealing food, Luffy, Brook, and Carrot were spotted by a marine. Grount finally entered the playing field and wanted to fight Luffy. The two dueled but Luffy got the better of Grount. Bonham tried to attack Luffy but he quickly escaped. They met Zappa in the hallway and Carrot quickly took care of him with her Electro ability. Carrot is quite dependable isn’t she? Do you think she should join the Straw Hat crew officially?
The whole crew reunited in the storage room where they were followed by Grount, Bonham, and Zappa. Chopper took on Bonham and defeated him. Nami and Carrot took down Zappa. Finally, Luffy took on Grount. They had a fierce fight but eventually, Luffy won.
While they were running for their ship, they got confronted by Prodi, who was determined to stop them or else he might get demoted. They had a fierce battle and the Straw Hats were surrounded. Grount, Zappa, and Bonham were looking from far thinking they were no match for them but then the unthinkable happened. The three of them had a flashback, the ultimate power only main characters use to win fights.
Despite the heartfelt flashback, Luffy eventually distracted the Admiral enough to make their escape. Zappa, Bonham, and Grount were defeated again but there was a fire in their eyes to beat the Straw Hat pirates next time.
Cidre Guild or Carbonic Acid King Arc (Episode 895-896)

Cidre Guild Arc is one of my favorite Arcs because I get to see Boa Hancock and all her beauty. Cidre was contacted by Buena Festa and they were about to head towards the Pirate Festival. When Cidre found the information that Luffy had also been invited to the festival, he was eager to get his hands on Luffy’s bounty.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats were being chased by the Cidre Guild and had to use Coup de Burst to escape from them. That last blast depleted their cola supply and Luffy volunteered to explore the island for more cola. He found a woman named Caramel who told him about the cola factory but she also warned Luffy about the cola factory being under the Cidre guild’s protection.

While Luffy was headed towards the factory, he was confronted by one of the Cidre Guild members and got blasted into the river. The river flowed Luffy towards a pool where Boa Hancock was bathing. Hancock quickly understood Luffy’s situation and helped him escape.
Hancock, wanting to help with Luffy’s mission, took Luffy to the factory and was confronted by Cidre himself. Cidre challenged Luffy while Hancock took on Guarana. The fight wasn’t going towards Cidre, so he made a quick retreat. The duo finished off Guarana only to be faced with Cidre again but this time he has a giant carbonated robot.
Luffy quickly took down Cidre and with that, the Cidre guild was disbanded. Everyone enjoyed the Pirate Festival and Boa Hancock was just happy to be reunited with Luffy once again.
Special Episodes That Are Non-Canon
1. East Blue Saga
Buggy’s Crew Adventure Chronicles Special (46-47)

Buggy has always been a comical character in One Piece and truth be told. We all love seeing this cowardly clown. Our story starts with Buggy paddling desperately on a small rift after his humiliating defeat at the orange town.
He only has his head, arms, and feet now. He reaches an island and hunts a bird. But its mother bird comes to save it and scares Buggy away. He had prepared a trap for the bird but surprisingly, the trap failed and now the bird is about to eat Buggy. The bird eats Buggy and spits him away because of his disgusting taste (probably because he doesn’t shower).
Buggy is sent flying and lands on another island with strange animals. The island is later revealed to be the island of rare animals. The guardian of the island, Gaimon, pursues Buggy. The two eventually make peace. Buggy eats his fill and leaves the island only to be chased by crabs.

A mysterious woman comes to Buggy’s rescue and defeats the crab. The woman reveals she wants to kill Luffy. After hearing that, Buggy and this woman form an alliance as they both want to kill Luffy and get their sweet revenge. But it is never revealed why she, the woman, hates Luffy.
In another place, the Buggy pirates were thinking that their captain is now dead. They hold a funeral for him and decide the next captain. Mohji and Cabaji fight to see who has the strength to become the next captain. The fight lasts 12 hours with no winner (Probably because both of them are weak). However, Richie suddenly shows enthusiasm and defeats both of them, and becomes the next captain. The Buggy Pirates were now called Richie pirates.
Buggy, with the help of the woman, finds his pirate ship and is overjoyed to meet his crew, only to find out they were captured by a tribe of cannibals, and somehow Richie is now captain? A confused buggy beats the cannibals and saves his crew. The crew is overjoyed to see their captain again and they celebrate their small victory.
2. Alabasta Saga
Diary Of Koby-Meppo Special (68-69)

Diary of Koby-Meppo is the story of Kobby and his partner Helmeppo and their days in the marine cadets. The filler showcases how they struggled and became as strong as they are now.
Our story starts with Koby and Helmeppo joining the marines. But their days aren’t that good as they are mostly doing janitor work. Koby takes all the work as training while Helmeppo thinks this is a waste of time. But Koby doesn’t listen to Meppo and works as hard as he can. He even studies late at night.
Later on, they were tasked with chore duty on the ship that was transferring Morgan (Helmeppo’s father). Helmeppo was worried his father was about to get the death penalty. The ship then connects with Garp’s ship as a way of prisoner transfer and Morgan was going under Garp’s custody. Morgan caught Garp off guard and slashed him. Then he takes Helmeppo hostage and tries to take over the ship to escape.

The marines prepare to fire at Morgan, but Koby is worried about his friend and scares the marines with a gun. Bogard confronts Koby as what he did was a betrayal to the marines and Garp steps in stopping him from being too harsh to the kid.
Helmeppo makes a decision to finally leave his father and swims back to the marine ship. Morgan gets to escape for the time being and Garp sees good in Koby and Helmeppo, deciding to take them with him. They train under Garp and now are one of the strongest marines in the One Piece world.

4. Thriller Bark Saga
Chopper Man Special (336)

The special is a superhero alter ego of our cute and cuddly Chopper. In this universe Chopper is a superhero with the Straw Hat pirates playing various other characters. It is mainly a parody of the superhero genre.
Our story starts with a giant robot attacking the city. The city people call for Chopper man to help. At that moment Chopper man was daydreaming about riding the robot instead of fighting it. Our villain in this story is Usodabada (Usopp), who is fed up with not being able to defeat Chopper man. Usodabada sends his minions to capture Chopper man’s assistant, Namifia (Nami). But those idiots by mistake kidnap Chopper man instead. After arriving there, Chopper man demands to see Usodabada’s giant fighting robot, Giant Luffy Bomber (Luffy).

She also gets defeated by our Chopper man. Then there is Zorokiller (Zoro), a mysterious man who demands onigiri and if not given, he gets angry. Finally, there is Sanjirops (Sanji,) a perverted monster who shows no mercy to men.
Usodabada, after his defeat, wanted to get revenge on the Chopper man. He tries to lure him into his new evil lair and attack him. But unfortunately, Chopper man is victorious again and Usodabada dissolves his gang.
Disclaimer- this chapter was not written by Oda himself but he did approve of it. Oda worked on some character designs in this story.

6. Dressrosa Saga6
Toriko & Dragon Ball Crossover Special (590)

This is probably one of the weirdest yet more wholesome cross-over in One piece. The episode is focused on a tournament and the main prize is Rare Meat. Now you know why Luffy must be interested in the tournament.
The whole group arrives at the location and decides to split up into 3 teams. Sanji, Komatsu, Setsuno, and Gohan took the forest route to travel. They get road blocked by a Manpukuhini and get intimidated. While they wanted to fight it, Setsuno explained that if they can satisfy its hunger then it should let them pass. Sanji and Komatsu took the spotlight and cooked several dishes for Manpukuhini.
The team of Brook, master Roshi, Nami, and Rin took the desert route. On the way they try to fake a heat stroke and sneak a peek at Nami and Rin’s “pantsu” but that fails hilariously. Finally, Luffy, Goku, Toriko take the mountain path where they face difficulties. Goku had to stop an incoming dangerous creature from space.
While the three teams were doing their thing, Franky was annoying android 18, and Zoro got lost as always. Zoro meets Zebra and Vegeta, but instead of trying to find his way back, they end up in a three-way challenge to see who’s the strongest.

Luffy, Toriko, and Goku finish their race and grab the flag at the same time, making it a three-way victory. Then an arena is assembled for the finalists to fight and Mr.Satan accidentally falls into the stadium. The announcers confuse him as a contender and think he was also fighting in the finals. As the three give us an epic showdown, the three of them end up being tied in strength and collapse from exhaustion. Mr.Satan was the only guy standing and he ironically became the winner.
Mr.Satan shares his prized meat and the rest of the group enjoy the meal right until the tournament organizers reveal the fact that it was a bait to bring the strongest in the world to one spot to become sacrifices for the glutton creature Akami. Right then Akami jumps out of the sea and starts stealing everyone’s life energy.
Everyone tries their attacks but they all get their energy sucked by Akami. Only Luffy, Toriko, and Goku are left in the end. Goku tries his signature move spirit bomb but Akami starts to suck the energy from the spirit bomb too.
That’s when Goku requests everyone to provide their energy too. Luffy stops Akami using his devil fruit powers just to buy some time for Goku. Finally, after the spirit bomb hits, Goku, Luffy, and Toriko deal one final blow to Akami just to finish it off. The group in the end is seen celebrating with a banquet.

8. Wano Arc
Uta’s Past (1029-1030)
The fifteenth filler arc of One Piece. As the arc suggests, it explores Uta’s childhood. It takes us back to a 9-year old Uta with her father Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates. They dock in the Goa Kingdom via Foosha Village.
On their arrival, a 7-year old Luffy checks out their ship, despite the unease, Luffy characteristically asks if he can join their crew!

Shanks asks Luffy if he can guide Uta around the town. They both share their dreams with each other with Luffy wanting to be a pirate and Uta realizing she wants to be a diva that will perform for the world.
After a race with their makeshift boats, they return back. Later, Shanks and his crew set sail. Luffy tries to sneak in only to be exposed by Uta, causing him to be removed from the ship. Even so, Uta assures Luffy that he needs to get stronger and there will come a time when she will test if he has.

Days passed, the Red Hair Crew returned to Foosha and Luffy greeted them. However, there is no Uta in sight. Shanks claims that her daughter has left to pursue her dream to be a singer. In disbelief, Luffy runs away.
Suddenly, news of the destruction of Elegia and death of its resident spread, all pointing Shanks as the culprit. During this time, Benn Beckaman implores Luffy to forgive Shanks for what happened in the past, only for Luffy to, again, run away. He encounters two thugs that he and Uta beaten days ago out of revenge. He was beaten up by the duo and there he realized that he hasn’t become stronger as what Uta told him to. Luckily, the thugs were scared off by Benn just by his glare and took care of Luffy’s injuries.
Later, Luffy enters the Party’s Bar and confronts Shanks if he can join his crew, only to be asked about his injuries. He lies that it was from a fall, to which Shanks accepts, while Luffy responds that he would accept not knowing what happened to Uta.
The arc ends with the Strawhat Pirates begging Luffy to set course to Uta’s upcoming debut concert in Elegia, even though he has no idea it is Uta and her crew. This serves as a prelude to the film.
Conclusion

Phew, that was one big filler list, let’s hope I never have to do that again. In conclusion, most people usually skip the fillers and the movies as they do not affect the main storyline and also create plot-holes in the main story sometimes. Nonetheless, these fillers are fun to watch and it does create some depth in the character development of our favorite characters. So, do give these fillers a try!
