Filler List Percentage

Evangelion Conclusion

Though the show was aired back in 1995, there have been almost no reboots. If you don’t count the six movies from the same franchise, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a standalone show. Even if you count the movies, they are just retelling of the main story.

This show consists of twenty-six episodes. Of these twenty-six, only one, yes, just a single episode is a filler. Well, there is another episode, but that one is a mix of filler and canon, so that doesn’t count. That means the percentage of filler for this show is only 3.85%!!!

So considering the percentage, you can definitely watch this 24-minute long episode. But you can also skip it if you feel like it’s a waste of time. This episode is simply fluffy content in between the serious plot.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Main Plot

Neon Genesis Evangelion

If you don’t want any spoilers, then I suggest you don’t read this part of the blog. If we were to give you a simple plot layout for Neon Genesis Evangelion without spoiling it much. But if you still insist, here is the most spoiler-free plot review for you.

The world is at the brink of destruction, Humanity is under attack by Angels. They are beasts who randomly started appearing after the “Second Impact.” The only way to counter them is with AT Fields. But humanity has no means of using such fields.

That is until NERV, a secret organization under the UN, showed their cards. They were able to construct Giant Mecha Kaiju hybrids called Evangelion, aka Eva. These Evas are the only hope of humanity’s survival.

Evangelion Chronological Order

The story follows Shinji Ikari, who, instead of living his dull life, now has the responsibility of piloting Unit One, an artificially created biological Mecha. He is not alone in this, as he has to fight alongside Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu. All three of them are fourteen-year-olds who have to carry the safety of the entire human race on their back.

They have to defeat the Angels who attack them, but that’s not all. NERV is not any simple old organization. There are tons of politics within them. This show tries to loosen the knot that ties the human heart and mind together.

At first, the main story, aka the cannon storyline, would seem to be a bit slow-paced. But once the story picks up the pace, there will never be a dull moment. Due to the intricate storytelling and psychological warfare, many consider this show to be a Psychological anime more than a Mecha.

Filler Episode Plot

Evangelion Episode 26

Among the 26 episodes, the tenth episode is the only “feel-good” episode that you would find in this anime. It is the only pure filler in this series. Being only 24 minutes in duration, you can easily choose to skip it or watch it.

If you want to skip it but still want to know what happens, then here’s a summary of the plot. The story takes place right after the events of the ninth episode.

NERV finds out that an Angel remains dormant in the belly of a volcano. The angle is still in its embryonic stage. Seeing the opportunity, they want to seize the embryo from within the lava.

As Unit Zero is still damaged and Unit One is too “precious,” the only available Eva is Unit Two. Seeing that this is the perfect time to outshine Ikari, Asuka seizes the opportunity to do the Magma Dive. She is equipped with the best heat-resistant equipment of NERV and dives in without hesitation. All was going well until Asuka secured the Angel embryo.

Evangelion Episode 26 1

Once secured, the embryo rapidly matured and started attacking Unit Two. Asuka was in a bind as she was not only under attack, but also the heat-resistant equipment was holding her back. She somehow manages to defeat the Angel.

When all seemed ok, suddenly, the harness fixed to Unit Two, broke. Asuka, with no hope of swimming up, accepted her faith and started drowning. But Ikari was against it as he jumped into the magma and saved her.

The episode tried to create a connection between Ikari and Asuka. Despite all the hardships humanity faced, this episode tried to highlight that hope is still alive. But soon after, in the next episode, the series goes back to its serious style.
