The series that accurately used the potential of the Military genre, the Saving Private Ryan of anime, KINGDOM!
As of now, Kingdom has a total of 3 seasons and it’s not a controversial opinion if you say it perfectly captured the essence of its source material. Kingdom Season 1

The 1st Season of Kingdom started airing on June 4, 2021, and ended on February 25, 2013. It had a total of 38 episodes and adapted Chapter 1 to Chapter 173 of the original Kingdom Manga. The arcs present in this season are Sei Kyou’s Rebellion Arc, Keiyou Campaign Arc, Training Arc, and Battle of Bayou Arc. There were also some arcs from the manga that were never animated and another was moved to the next season. These arcs are the Assassination Plot Arc and the Escape From Zhao Arc respectively.
Kingdom Season 1 was animated by Studio Pierrot which animated series such as Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach, and Black Clover. So with that, it’s safe to say that a big fish in the animation industry picked up Kingdom. There is no doubt in my mind that if you watch the 1st Season of Kingdom, you’ll want to play Chess till you sleep. Bro, come on, I’ll proudly say that if it weren’t for Kingdom, Chess would be pay-to-win. I know that doesn’t make sense but trust me, it is the will of the Gacha Gods.

The 2nd season of Kingdom began premiering on June 8, 2013, and ended on March 2, 2014. The entire season comprised 39 episodes which were still animated by Studio Pierrot. The arcs included in this season are the continuation of the Escape From Zhao Arc, Alliance Arc, Third Faction Arc, Sanyou Campaign Arc, Sanyou Aftermath Arc, and a handful of Chapters from the Coalition Invasion Arc. All of these were from Chapter 174 to Chapter 260 of the original manga source material.
A lot of new surprises come this season and we get to see just how far Shin managed to grow as a soldier and as a person as well. It brings tears to my eyes just how far my boy got, so this is what feels like to be a proud father. I wish I could go to Shin and ask him, “are you winning, son?”. Also, we got the BEST GIRLS!!!! Boy, I wish I could be in the Hi Shin Unit. Even being a horse is fine, I’d proudly charge into battle with her. Okay, I know when I said horse Jean from Attack on Titan came into your mind.

Kingdom Season 3

The 3rd Season of Kingdom started releasing episodes on April 5, 2020, but was delayed by an entire year because of COVID-19. It started airing again on April 4, 2021, and even came back to episode 1. After that sudden delay, Kingdom finally released its last episode of Season 3 on October 8, 2021. Another surprising thing is that it was handled by Studio Signpost which is a new animation Studio. They released 26 episodes in total and I gotta ask, “how did it get even better!?”
While I was asking myself what kind of sorcery Studio Signpost did, I was amazed that it already passed the 300 Chapter mark on the manga! This season covered the Coalition Invasion Arc and Kyou Kai’s Revenge Arc which spanned from Chapter 261 to Chapter 364 of the Manga. WHERE’S SEASON 4? WE NEED IT RIGHT NOW! Go get me a Hundred Thousand men and let’s storm the Studio for they are keeping Season 4 away from us! Come on Hi Shin Unit! HOAAAAAHHH!

Plot

Maybe you’ve seen the entire filler list and want to get an idea of what the story of Kingdom really is. You might be wondering who’s Shin? What’s the Hi Shin Unit? Why is the writer acting like he’s like a crazy person? Well, I can answer every last one of your questions, except for the third one. Without further ado, let’s read the history of the events that transpired in Kingdom!
The story of Kingdom starts off with two children playing on the fields. The surroundings seem peaceful but when you zoom out and look at the entire map of China, it suddenly turns into a board where 7 states are fighting a never-ending war. These turbulent times were known as the Era of the Warring States that has lasted for 500 years. And in this period of strife and bloodshed is where heroes will be born, two men who have the most ridiculous yet awe-inspiring dream. One boy will do everything to become a Great General of the Heavens, while the other…aims to unify all of China!

We go back to Shin and Hyou, two war orphans with a bond as strong as blood brothers. While they were sparring, a minister from the Royal Capital of Qin arrived. He directly went to the owner of the two boys and asked for a suspicious request. He ordered that he is to take Hyou back to the Royal Capital. Hyou is overwhelmed with excitement, his eyes gleaming with a bright future. While Shin is conflicted about the events that are happening. Hyou and Shin talk and both declare that this is one of their stepping stones to achieve their goals.
As time passes by after Hyou reached the Royal Capital, Shin is alone in his shack. Suddenly, he feels a presence, and then a sound. He opens the door and finds a puddle of blood and laying there was a boy dressed in fancy clothes. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, terror began to rise up from his stomach and every strand of hair in his body shot up. It was Hyou, mortally wounded and almost dead. As tears began to crawl out of Shin’s eyes, Hyou, with his dying breath, gave Shin instructions. This disastrous reunion was cut-off by a more important matter, but what’s more important than seeing his brother by heart’s last moments?

Shin runs and runs until he arrives at a village full of murderers and thugs. He meets a child in a bird-like costume in the village by the name of Ka Ryo Ten. As the two bicker, they reach a small house in a hidden corner of the area. There, as Shin hurriedly opened the door, his mind couldn’t comprehend what he saw. It was Hyou, or at the very least, it looked like Hyou.
With a flood of emotions coming out all at once, Shin demands to know what’s going on. There, he learned that Hyou was actually taken to the Royal Capital to act as a body double. To become the body double of the King of Qin, Ei Sei. After an argument with Sei, Shin decides to follow Hyou’s advice and help King Sei. And so Shin’s unexpected journey began.

After losing Hyou, his closest bond since he can remember, Shin now meets an interesting man, Sei, the King of Qin who wants to take back his throne. You thought that the two men I was talking about were Hyou and Shin, right? No. Those two men were these survivors. Shin, the one who will climb up the ranks of Qin to become the Greatest General in the Heavens, and Sei, the King of Qin whose entire being he will dedicate to UNIFY ALL OF CHINA! This is the story of an unlikely duo. A mere war orphan and an usurped king. The duo who will end the Era of the Warring States of China!
Comment Down Below

This brings us to the conclusion of this crazy list. These protagonists have broken the norm of the main character that we usually want and have still made the story interesting.
They are one of the main reasons why people love these anime and continue to re-watch them even though they have finished a long time ago.
