Well, it was only natural for us to get too excited as The God of High School was a super popular manhwa that all of us wanted to get animated ASAP.
Usually, manhwas have great storylines and art and oh my gosh, The God of High School’s animation is on a different level. Don’t you agree?

The God of High School Background
The God of High School is a super popular manhwa that came out in 2011. It’s illustrated by Yongje Park and was serialized in the Naver Webtoon platform back in April 2011. In February 2020, an anime adaptation of The God of High School was announced. The animation was done by none other than Studio MAPPA and the production was done by Sola Entertainment. Sunghoo Park is the director of the anime with Arisa Okehazama as the music composer and Manabu Akita providing the character designs. The anime aired from July 6, 2020, to September 28, 2020.
The God of High School Story
The anime starts with a member of the Korean National Assembly, Park Mujin, getting blackmailed by a bunch of criminals. Little did they know they’d be killed brutally. They didn’t know who they were messing with actually. Anyway, Park Mujin prepares for the Martial Arts Tournament by the name of The God of High School.
The Preliminary tournament begins and Jin Mori is late because he got caught in something. He also ends up getting involved with Yoo Mi Ra and Han Dae Wi, making them his friends. At the tournament, it’s announced that there’s going to be a mass brawl instead of a paired fight. And oh boy, there’s a lot of beating and bloodshed.
A lot of players are eliminated but there’s a super strong fighter, Manseok, who enters the scene. He fights with only his feet as his hands are cuffed. He gives Yoo Mi Ra a tough time and then decides to fight Jin Mo Ri. Jin Mo Ri is able to avoid Manseok’s attacks and even manages to damage his ankle.
After the first fight, Jin Mo Ri, Yoo Mi Ra and Han Dae Wi head home together. They talk about the reason why they entered the tournament and want to win it no matter what. The next matches are a piece of cake for the three of them. On the other hand, Manseok is fighting Gamdo and he humiliates him while fighting him.
Jin Mo Ri couldn’t hold him back and interferes, trying to save Gamdo. Manseok is furious and unleashes his deadly power. However, our boy is able to make him unconscious. That’s when Park Mu Jin comes and punishes Jin Mo Ri for interfering in the fight.
It is decided that Jin Mo Ri should be disqualified. However, when Oark Mujin finds out about Jin Mo Ri’s grandfather, Jin Tae Jin, he gives Mo Ri an offer; he can stay if he manages to defeat one of the Commissioners. Jin Mo Ri easily defeats the Comissioner and Park Mujin recignizes him as Tae Jin’s “Tiger Cub ”. He definitely has taken an interest in Jin Mo Ri.
Meanwhile, Yoo Mi Ra gets a proposal from Seongjin who is a businessman as well as a martial artist. Jin Mo Ri believes that Seongjin has an ulterior motive. But Yoo Mi Ra withdraws from the tournament and prepares for her wedding.
It is revealed that Seongjin did have an ulterior motive and he only wanted to obtain Yoo Mi Ra’s Moon Light Sword Style. The day is saved by Jin Mo Ri and Han Dae Wi when they crash the wedding and reveal Seonjin’s true face. Yoo Mi Ra decides to rejoin the tournament.
As the tournament begins again, we see a fight between Han Dae Wi and Jin Mo Ri. The only reason why Han Dae Wi wanted to win the tournament was to save his friend’s life. His friend, Sungtae, was hospitalized and was battling for his life.
Park Mujin promised Han Dae Wi that if he won, he’d help save his friend’s life. But Sungtae had already died and Mujin informed Han Dae Wi about his death during the fight. That’s when Han Dae Wi decided to lose.
Yoo Mi Ra arrives and tells him about the goodbye letter that Sungtae wrote for Han Dae Wi. Now, Han Dae Wi is determined to win and beats Jin Mo Ri with his determination.
We’re introduced to a bunch of new characters after the fight between Han Dae Wi and Jin Mo Ri. There’s this one contestant, Park Ilpyo, who has caught the eye of Jin Mo Ri. Park Ilpyo’s jacket as the tiger on it resembles the one on his grandfather’s military uniform…
